Sound Healing with David Gibson How to Work with Sound to Heal Disease Peace, Activation, and the Sound-Based Path Through Anxiety, Depression, Anger, and Grief Sound Healing Center Projects and Upcoming Programs In this episode of Sound Healing, David Gibson briefly outlines the broader work of the Sound Healing Center, including Globe Institute, the Sound Healing Store, the Sound Therapy Center, the Sound Healing Research Foundation, the Medical Sound Association, and the Sound Education Association. He also announces upcoming programs, including a June 28 open house in Sausalito, in-person and online sound healing certificate programs, a recording program, a Mount Shasta retreat, and voice analysis software training. He points listeners to SoundHealingCenter.com and related project websites for classes, research, instruments, dementia protocols, treatment plans, and sound education resources. Treating Disease as Chaos and Returning the Body to Peace The main episode focuses on how sound may be used to support healing for common diseases and emotional conditions. David explains that the Medical Sound Association has developed detailed treatment plans for issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, dementia, addiction, pain, autism, cancer, anger, sleep, schizophrenia, thyroid problems, traumatic brain injury, adrenal issues, blood clots, heart conditions, digestion, suicide, end of life, ADHD, and strokes. His central idea is that disease often represents chaos or loss of coherence, while drones, vowels, crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, tuning forks, gongs, and other stable vibrations create peace and coherence that may support healing. The Hierarchy of Vibration and the Many Layers of Peace David describes sound healing through a hierarchy of vibration: frequencies, timbre, musical intervals, musical flow, and energy. He explains that pure frequencies, low calming tones, archetypal frequencies, home notes, warm instruments, smooth musical flow, slow rhythms, breath-based chord movement, and stable energetic presence can all help create peace. He also discusses using dissonance when needed to break up stuck emotional or physical energy before returning the system to coherence. For David, peace is not only relaxation; it is the state where the immune system, organs, creativity, and deeper connection to source can function more fully. Sound, Diagnosis, and the Role of Belief A major theme is the danger of fear after a diagnosis. David shares his own experience with blood clots and says he had to stay disciplined about not collapsing into fear, because fear can weaken the immune system and interfere with healing. He contrasts discouraging responses with supportive ones, preferring people who affirm that healing is possible. He argues that doctors should not only present statistics but also guide patients toward positive intention, affirmation, and the belief that healing can happen. He repeatedly frames sound healing as a way to help the body return to peace so it can function better. Sleep, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, ADHD, Brain Injury, and Depression David gives condition-specific examples. For sleep, he recommends delta brainwave entrainment tuned to the individual and also returning to peace repeatedly throughout the day so the nervous system is not wired at bedtime. For panic attacks, he warns that many instruments can be too intense and says stillness, low calm vocal tones, loving presence, and silent chakra-toning can be more effective. For general anxiety, some instruments or sound tables may help if the person is not too fragile. For ADHD and traumatic brain injury, he emphasizes individualized brainwave entrainment. For depression, he recommends activation rather than only calming, using high frequencies, faster rhythms, activating sounds, sound tables, playlists, movement, drumming, gongs, and music that gradually builds from low mood into uplift. Anger, Boundaries, Compassion, and the Seed Beneath the Reaction David then turns to anger, saying many people become angry because they are exhausted, stressed, undernourished, sleep-deprived, or overwhelmed. He says peace can expand a person's capacity to handle life, while expression can help those who have been stuffing anger for years. He suggests intense sound, guitar, gong, or physical release when appropriate, but cautions that expression alone does not remove the seed of anger. He recommends finding the trigger, setting firm boundaries while still running love, ratcheting down exaggerated language, and using compassion as the strongest antidote. In his view, many people act harmfully because they are lost, stressed, or conditioned by society, and compassion can help prevent anger from escalating. Grief, Gratitude, and Letting the Heart Feel The final major teaching centers on grief. David says people who are grieving should not be rushed into cheerfulness; if they are crying, he encourages them to continue and let the grief move naturally. If someone is shut down and not feeling, sound and loving presence may help them reconnect with emotion. He distinguishes healthy grief from complicated grief that continues all day, every day, for years. His main antidote for grief is gratitude: recognizing the blessing of having loved someone deeply. He closes with a personal story about a woman whose friend died at the beach, a healing song played by David's roommate, and later that roommate's own death in Kauai, which David says he first felt as “okay.” The episode ends with his uplifting depression piece and a closing intention for peace and relief from depression.

Sound Healing with David Gibson Musical Intervals and The Music of Relationship: David Gibson on Intervals, Harmony, and Dissonance David Gibson Opens Sound Healing In this episode of Sound Healing, host David Gibson opens with updates from the Sound Healing Center, Globe Institute, and upcoming programs, including open houses, summer intensives, online certificate training, recording classes, the Mount Shasta Sound Healing Retreat, and voice-analysis software training. He then introduces the central topic of the episode: musical intervals, or the relationship between two notes, as a model for understanding the relationship between every kind of thing in the universe. Musical Intervals as States of Consciousness David explains that musical intervals are not only musical structures, but also feelings or states of consciousness. He walks through several intervals, including unison, octaves, perfect fifths, perfect fourths, major thirds, major seconds, minor seconds, sixths, and sevenths. He describes unison and octaves as deeply harmonious, the perfect fifth as calming, sweet, healing, and movement-oriented, the perfect fourth as spacious and suspended, and more dissonant intervals as activating rather than inherently bad. His point is that each interval carries a specific emotional or energetic quality. Ratios, Frequencies, and Sacred Geometry David then connects musical intervals to mathematics. An octave is a two-to-one ratio, a perfect fifth is three-to-two, a perfect fourth is four-to-three, a major third is five-to-four, and a minor third is six-to-five. He explains that these ratios can also appear in sacred geometry, such as the relationship between the lengths of sides in a triangle. For David, this means intervals are not just sounds; they are measurable relationships that can appear in space, form, vibration, and proportion. Timbre, Harmonics, and Sound Healing Instruments David distinguishes between musical intervals created by two separate notes and the hidden intervals inside a single sound. When a person sings one note, or when an instrument such as a gong, harp, Tibetan bowl, or piano produces a sound, that single sound contains many frequencies and harmonic relationships. He explains that activating instruments such as gongs, bagpipes, saxophones, and clarinets may contain more dissonant internal relationships, while instruments such as harp, acoustic guitar, and wood drum can contain warmer, sweeter relationships. This helps explain why different instruments affect the body and emotions differently. Intervals in Nature, Color, Geometry, and the Planets The episode expands from music into nature and cosmology. David says atoms, molecules, elements, colors, geometries, planets, moons, and orbital relationships can all be understood through interval-like relationships. He gives examples such as hydrogen and oxygen forming water, colors that harmonize or clash, and planetary relationships connected to the ancient idea of the music of the spheres. He also discusses Jupiter's moons and the Earth-Sun relationship as examples of cosmic ratios and vibrational relationships. The Body as a Harmonic Structure David applies the same idea to the human body, saying every cell, organ, and medical system has frequencies and relationships. He suggests that health may be understood as harmonious interval relationships among the parts of the body, while illness may involve disrupted or dissonant relationships. He speculates that if researchers could identify the musical-interval “template of perfection” among cells, organs, and body systems, sound could potentially be used to support healing across many conditions. Emotions, Thoughts, Souls, and Relationships David also applies musical intervals to inner life. He describes emotional conflicts, such as loving and hating someone at the same time, as dissonant relationships. Positive emotions such as gratitude, compassion, love, and joy are described as more coherent frequencies that can move together in harmonious ways. He extends this to thoughts, soul relationships, twin flames, soul groups, and romantic or personal chemistry, suggesting that people may experience each other as harmonious or dissonant based on deeper frequency relationships. Musical Intervals Across Every Subject Near the end, David explains that the Sound Education Association is building curriculum for children that brings frequency, musical flow, and interval relationships into subjects such as math, physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, communication, social science, history, economics, environmental science, art, engineering, computer science, physical education, ethics, philosophy, and medicine. His larger vision is that every subject can be understood as a study of relationships, and every relationship can be experienced as a kind of musical interval. Moving Toward Harmony While Honoring Dissonance David closes by playing part of his song “Awakening,” which he says is built largely around the musical fifth. He encourages listeners to notice harmony and dissonance in their lives, but not to judge dissonance as bad. Just as water hitting rocks or waves crashing into shore can create beautiful turbulence, dissonance can activate movement and help break up stuck energy. The final message is to move toward harmony whenever possible while recognizing that all relationships, even challenging ones, can serve a purpose in the larger music of life.
Sound Healing with David Gibson Awake and Coherent: Using Sound, Music, and Frequency for Activation and Focus Introducing the Sound Healing Center and David Gibson In this episode on sound healing, host David Gibson begins with an overview of the Sound Healing Center and its connected programs, including the Globe Institute, the Sound Healing Store, the Sound Therapy Center, the Sound Healing Research Foundation, and the Sound Education Association. He discusses certificate programs, instruments, vibroacoustic tools, sound-healing resources, voice-analysis software, dementia-related protocols, and educational efforts involving children and schools. David then announces upcoming classes, an open house, a summer intensive, a Mount Shasta retreat, and voice-analysis training before introducing the episode's central topic: how sounds and music can create activation, wakefulness, focus, and coherent energy. Activation Is Not the Opposite of Peace David explains that sound healing is not simply about becoming calm or sleepy. In his view, a person may need to be highly alert, energized, and focused while still remaining peaceful and coherent. He contrasts chaos, which he associates with stress, fear, anxiety, depression, and PTSD, with stable and consistent vibration, which he describes as coherence. According to David, coherent sound can support a person whether they are deeply relaxed or fully activated. His goal in this episode is therefore to demonstrate sound approaches that help people become more awake without pushing them into agitation or overwhelm. “Uplift” and Gradually Moving Out of Depression David introduces a song he created called “Uplift,” which he says was designed for depression and appears on the album Healing Lights. He explains that the composition begins in a subdued emotional space in order to meet a depressed listener where they are, then gradually increases its activating qualities over approximately ten minutes. He describes the use of higher frequencies, faster rhythms, rising chord progressions, and rain sounds to steadily increase energy and wakefulness. David emphasizes that someone experiencing depression may reject music that begins too intensely, whereas a gradual musical progression may help the listener move toward activation more comfortably. What Makes a Sound Activating David provides an extended explanation of the musical and sonic qualities he believes contribute to activation. He says edgy or overtone-rich sounds such as gongs, Tibetan bowls, reeds, and certain pure tones can be stimulating, as can louder volume, more instruments, higher frequencies, faster tempos, percussion, complex melodies, layered harmonies, changing song structures, and powerful nature sounds such as crashing waves or waterfalls. He also discusses studio effects, lyrics, higher-pitched vocals, improvisational or channeled vocalization, and rapidly changing music as additional activating elements. In contrast, he describes lower frequencies, sustained tones, repetition, mantras, chant, and vowel sounds as generally more calming. Focus, Brain Rhythms, and Dementia-Related Sound Work David then introduces several sound demonstrations connected with focus and brain activation. He plays “Find Focus,” describing it as an energizing composition that uses soft sounds and angelic-style voices to make fast rhythms and higher frequencies easier to tolerate. He discusses “temporal awareness,” suggesting that very fast musical or vocal patterns may help challenge the brain and support alertness, and briefly introduces a rapid light-language recording by Judy Satori as an example. David also discusses his work with dementia-related sound approaches, saying that activation may be appropriate for earlier stages but could overwhelm people in later stages. He introduces a 40-hertz composition that he says was designed around rhythms and frequencies associated with dementia research, while presenting these uses as part of his own sound-healing approach. Sound Demonstrations for Depression, Focus, and Intention Toward the close, David introduces an “Antidepressant” song, describing it as incorporating a sweep of frequencies, higher tones, rhythms, and cello to combine activation with emotional warmth. He also plays excerpts from a depression-relief recording containing activating frequencies that he associates with mood, concentration, and sympathetic and parasympathetic balance. His final demonstration is “100% Focus,” which he says was created while thirty people held an intention of complete focus for approximately nine minutes. David concludes by inviting listeners to tone along with the sound and to hold the intention of being fully awake when needed while remaining at peace and coherent.
Sound Healing with David Gibson How to Find a Frequency Intuitively or Physically Yourself Mastering Inner Resonance: The Art and Science of Intuitive Sound Healing A Comprehensive Guide to Resonant Health & Vibrational Therapy This episode features a comprehensive presentation by David Gibson on the multifaceted world of sound healing. It covers the institutional framework of the Globe Institute, the scientific principles of resonance and "destructive resonance" in modern medicine, and practical, intuitive techniques for personal healing. The core message emphasizes finding one's unique "soul song" through stillness and resonance to achieve physical and emotional harmony. The Sound Healing Ecosystem and Educational Framework The Sound Healing Center operates through four primary branches: the Globe Institute (educational certificates), the Sound Healing Store (over 400 instruments), the Sound Therapy Center (specific issue treatments), and the Sound Healing Research Foundation. Notably, the Institute is the only state-approved college in the U.S. dedicated to sound healing. Their work extends into specialized sectors, such as developing dementia protocols for major healthcare providers and implementing sound-based curricula in Montessori schools through significant grants. The Physics of Resonance and Medical Applications The science of sound healing is rooted in the principle that every part of the body—from organs to atoms—has a natural resonant frequency. When a stable, coherent vibration matches this frequency, it promotes health; however, "destructive resonance" can be used to explode pathogens or cancer cells. Leading institutions like Johns Hopkins are already using ultrasound to destroy liver cancer, and researchers have identified electromagnetic frequencies that can target 15 different types of cancer. The goal is to move beyond "chaos" (unstable vibration) toward "peace" (stable, consistent vibration). Practical Techniques for Intuitive Frequency Finding Individuals can find their own resonant frequencies by performing "frequency sweeps" with their voice. By placing a hand on the chest, neck, or head and sliding the pitch up and down, one can identify where the vibration feels strongest, indicating resonance. Specific vowels, such as "E" directed toward the nasal cavity, can stimulate the skull and brain. These techniques are not only for physical organs but also for subtle endocrine glands like the adrenals, thymus, and pineal gland. Even if a frequency isn't matched perfectly, the act of sending stable energy and positive intention provides a "massage" of chi to the body parts. The Evolution Toward the "Soul Song" The ultimate frontier of sound healing is the transition from single frequencies to complex "songs" or tonalities. Every person has 11 major medical systems (circulatory, nervous, etc.) through which energy flows like a melody. Blockages caused by trauma or negative emotions create "chaotic vibrations." By practicing stillness, individuals can eventually hear the "song of source" or their own "soul song," which represents the perfect, unobstructed flow of energy through the entire system. This shamanic approach relies on deep connection rather than external lists or AI-generated data. Sound healing is presented as a bridge between ancient shamanic wisdom and modern physics. By moving from the understanding of simple frequencies to the complex, flowing "songs" of our biological systems, individuals can take an active role in their own healing. The key to this mastery lies in the cultivation of stillness, allowing one to hear and resonate with the inherent harmony of the soul.
Sound Healing with David Gibson Sound Master, Channeling, Light Language and Throat singing The Sound Healing Ecosystem: Education and Research The Sound Healing Center operates through four primary pillars: the Globe Institute, the Sound Healing Store, the Sound Therapy Center, and the Sound Healing Research Foundation. As the only state-approved college in the United States dedicated to this field, the Institute provides professional certificates in sound healing and audio recording, available both in-person in Sausalito and online. Their reach extends into clinical research, with a foundation housing over 1,000 papers and a Medical Sound Association consisting of doctors and therapists who develop comprehensive 30-page treatment plans for over 40 specific health issues. Innovative Applications and Community Outreach The center's influence manifests in practical community applications, notably through a $100,000 grant that integrated sound healing curriculum into Montessori schools, benefiting children from infancy to 18 years old. Furthermore, their specialized sound protocols for dementia have been implemented in Northern California facilities for two years, showing transformative results. Beyond education, the center develops proprietary technologies, including voice analysis software and vibroacoustic tools like sound lounges and vests designed to facilitate deep physical and emotional relaxation. The Practice of Light Language and Vocal Mastery A significant portion of the discourse focuses on "Light Language"—a form of vocal channeling that uses rapid, non-linear sounds to entrain the listener's brain waves into alpha, beta, and even gamma states. Practitioners like Zenat Lokdewala and Judy Satori demonstrate how these frequencies are intended to "realign" the body's water configuration and support cellular restoration, such as lengthening DNA telomeres. The goal of these practices is to move beyond the fear of making sound, allowing higher energies to flow through the voice to facilitate planetary and individual healing. Harmonics and Universal Connection Throat singing and overtone mastery represent the pinnacle of vocal resonance, where singers manipulate the tongue to amplify specific harmonics naturally present in the human voice. These sounds are not merely aesthetic; they are based on mathematical multiples that correspond to the distances between electron shells in an atom, the weight of human vertebrae, and the orbits of planets. By tapping into this "harmonic series," practitioners believe they are aligning the human system with the fundamental geometry of the universe. Sound healing is presented as a bridge between rigorous clinical research and ancient vocal traditions. By leveraging the mathematical precision of harmonics and the intuitive power of light language, the Sound Healing Center aims to provide a holistic framework for both personal transformation and professional medical application.
Sound Healing with David Gibson The Soul, the Notes, Frequency, Tamper, and Song of Your Soul The Ecosystem of the Sound Healing Center The Sound Healing Center operates through four primary pillars: the Globe Institute (educational certificates), the Sound Healing Store (over 400 instruments and technologies), the Sound Therapy Center (specific issue protocols), and the Sound Healing Research Foundation. Notably, the center has expanded its reach into clinical applications, such as developing dementia protocols for Northern California's largest dementia company and securing a $100,000 grant to integrate sound curriculum into Montessori schools. The Soul as a Stable Frequency The soul is conceptualized as a perfect, unwavering frequency that remains consistent across lifetimes, whereas the physical, emotional, and mental bodies are subject to change. While science currently lacks the tools to "prove" the soul's existence, spiritual traditions and emerging theories suggest it can be identified as a "home note"—the rhythm of one's metabolism and brainwaves at total peace. There is even speculation that future technology might measure soul frequency through light reflections in the eyes. The Tradition and Power of the "Soul Song" A central narrative explores the Namibian tribe's tradition of the "Soul Song," where a child's unique vibration is captured during pregnancy and sung throughout their life's milestones. This song serves not only as a celebration of identity but also as a tool for social correction; when an individual errs, the community sings their song back to them to remind them of their inherent wholeness and beauty. Modern practitioners, like Jamie Lou, demonstrate similar "soul song" channelings that connect individuals to their spiritual lineage and ancestral wisdom. Building the Antahkarana: The Bridge to Alignment The path to spiritual maturity involves building the Antahkarana, or the bridge between the personality and the soul. Most individuals are governed by their "emotional body" (a rollercoaster of feelings) or their "mental body" (the witness). The goal is to allow the soul to become the "driver" of the vehicle. This process is often described through the "12 Petals of the Soul," which categorize the evolution of knowledge, love, and sacrifice into a unified state of being. The Concept of the Soul Song and Frequency Central to the discussion is the idea that the soul possesses a unique, unwavering frequency that remains constant across lifetimes. Unlike the physical, emotional, and mental bodies which fluctuate, the soul is viewed as a "perfect" vibration. This concept is illustrated by the traditions of a Namibian tribe, where a child's unique "soul song" is caught by the mother in meditation and sung by the community at every major life transition—and even as a ritual of love to correct antisocial behavior. Gibson suggests that while we can find a physical "home note" through brainwave assessment, the soul's frequency might eventually be measurable through advanced technology or by analyzing the 11 physiological systems of the body. Bridging the Personality to the Soul Drawing heavily on the esoteric teachings of Alice Bailey, the presentation describes the "Antahkarana," or the bridge between the personality and the soul. Most individuals are controlled by their emotional bodies (the "rollercoaster"), but spiritual maturity involves using the mental body to witness and eventually align with the soul. This alignment shifts the individual's focus from self-centered desires to a life of service. The soul is described as having 12 "petals" categorized into knowledge, love, and sacrifice, leading ultimately to the "Jewel in the Lotus"—a state of pure being and unity consciousness. Service as the Ultimate Soul Expression The transition to soul-alignment is marked by a fundamental shift where service becomes the primary motivator. Gibson emphasizes that service is not about the scale of the act, but the lack of selfishness. Whether it is a simple act of kindness or creating a global healing system, the goal is to become a vehicle for higher energy. This involves taking care of one's basic needs only to better serve others, effectively turning one's life, money, and talents into tools for collective transformation. The journey of sound healing extends far beyond acoustic therapy; it is a path toward "remembering" one's original frequency. By building a bridge between the turbulent personality and the stable soul, individuals can move toward a life defined by peace, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to the service of others.
Sound Healing with David Gibson Immersive Sound Baths The Four Pillars of the Sound Healing Center The organization operates through four primary branches: the Globe Institute, the Sound Healing Store, the Sound Therapy Center, and the Sound Healing Research Foundation. The Globe Institute stands as the only state-approved college in the United States dedicated to sound healing, offering certificates both in-person in Sausalito and online. Complementing this is the Sound Healing Store, which hosts over 400 instruments and advanced vibroacoustic technologies, such as sound lounges and brainwave assessment software. The clinical side is supported by the Sound Therapy Center, which addresses over 40 specific health issues, including a specialized protocol for dementia that has been implemented in Northern California for the last two years. Educational Programs and Community Outreach The center places a strong emphasis on vocational training, aiming for a 70% job placement rate for its students. Beyond its core certificates, the Sound Education Association recently secured a $100,000 grant to integrate its curriculum into two Montessori schools, creating over 2,500 exercises for children from infancy through age 18. These programs are designed around brain development research and are currently expanding globally. For adults, the center offers summer intensives, recording programs, and unique retreats like the annual Mount Shasta Sound Healing Retreat held each August. The 20th Annual Sound Healing Conference (April 24-26) The upcoming 20th Sound Healing Conference is a free online event featuring 14 of the world's top researchers, pioneers, and sound therapists. The conference covers a vast array of topics, including the harmonic series, sacred geometry, and somatic singing. Notable presentations include Ryan Sarnataro's deep dive into antique singing bowls, Marianne Gubri's work with the harp as an intuitive healing instrument, and Jerry Jen's research into muscle testing. Each session is designed to be immersive, incorporating "sound baths" to provide participants with a direct experience of the healing frequencies discussed. Immersive Sound Bath Demonstrations The latter portion of the presentation focuses on experiential sound baths from various practitioners. Jenn Cunnings provides a light language transmission, while Marla May utilizes the frame drum for a more activating experience. Maren Azoff leads participants in the Sanskrit chant "Aham Prema" (I am divine love), emphasizing the importance of clear vowels and deep abdominal breathing to move frequency through the body. These demonstrations illustrate the diverse modalities—ranging from harps and chimes to vocal invocations—used to induce states of deep relaxation and "bliss." The Sound Healing Center offers a robust framework for those seeking to explore sound as a therapeutic tool, whether through formal vocational education, scientific research, or personal wellness. By bridging the gap between ancient practices like singing bowls and modern technologies like voice analysis software, the center provides a comprehensive path toward holistic harmony and professional certification in the field.
Today it gives me special pleasure to speak with Fernando Racimo, a leading scientist-activist, about his new book, Science in Resistance. This book gives a riveting account of the founding and growth of the international group Scientist Rebellion, in which now thousands of scientists from around the world have organized direct actions to draw attention to the climate crisis. Breaking through the censorship and silencing carried on by big fossil fuel companies, and also scientific groups in and out of academia, which often collude with each other, members of SR have put their careers, and their bodies on the line to raise public consciousness and to spur action. We talk about the connection between power and knowledge, between ecocide and genocide, and the need to democratize education and research if we are going to have the kind of world we want to both live in, and to pass on to other generations.Fernando Racimo is a scientist-activist and the author of the new book Science in Resistance. He co-founded the Danish chapters of Scientist Rebellion and Academics for Palestine, and works at the intersection of academia and social movement organizing. He earned his bachelor from Harvard University and his PhD from the University of California Berkeley, and is now an associate professor in ecology and evolution at the Globe Institute in the University of Copenhagen. He has written articles and OpEds on the urgent need for scientists to join and support social movements fighting structures of oppression, as well as on strategies for transforming and democratizing academic institutions to serve positive socio-ecological needs. At the University of Copenhagen, he teaches on various topics including ecology and evolution, degrowth and socio-ecological justice, decolonizing global health and social movement theory and practice. He currently co-runs a study circle on Degrowth and Exnovation as part of the Nordic Summer University, to explore creative and democratically engaging ways to undo, dismantle and decommission unsustainable institutions, structures and technologies.
Sound Healing with David Gibson Chakras and the Full Range of Chakras This session, led by David Gibson of the Globe Institute, provides a comprehensive overview of the sound healing landscape, ranging from institutional education and clinical research to the practical application of vocal toning. The discussion bridges the gap between traditional musical theory and intuitive frequency therapy, offering a roadmap for using sound to achieve emotional and physical balance. The Sound Healing Ecosystem and Institutional Resources The Globe Institute stands as a unique, state-approved college in the U.S. dedicated to sound healing, offering certificates both in-person and online. This educational pillar is supported by a broader ecosystem including a specialized store featuring over 400 instruments, a Research Foundation with a database of over 1,000 clinical papers, and the Medical Sound Association, where doctors collaborate on treatment protocols. Notable achievements include a $100,000 grant to integrate sound curriculum into Montessori schools and successful dementia protocols implemented in Northern California facilities. The Art and Intuition of Chakra Toning The core of the practice involves resonating the body's energy centers through specific vowels, Sanskrit syllables, and "Tibetan warrior" sounds. While various traditions assign specific sounds to each chakra—such as "Lam" for the Root or "Yum" for the Heart—the speaker emphasizes that intuition should supersede textbook rules. The goal of vocal toning is to find the specific resonance that feels "right" for the individual on a given day, using the voice as a diagnostic and healing tool to clear stagnation or over-activity in the chakras. The toning process moves from the Root (grounding/abundance) up to the Crown (spiritual connection). Techniques vary from the deep, low-frequency "Oo" for the Root chakra to the powerful, explosive "Wo" for the Solar Plexus—which the speaker notes has been used in extreme cases to support recovery from physical illness. The Heart is often accessed through the "Mmm" hum of love, while the Crown is uniquely associated with the resonance of silence. Frequency Theory vs. Musical Notes A critical distinction is made between traditional musical notes (the C to B scale) and pure frequency ranges. While many systems use a linear C-major scale for the chakras, the speaker argues that frequency (Hz) is a more accurate measure of resonance. For example, a large, bass-heavy gong might resonate the Root chakra regardless of its musical pitch. He proposes a "full-spectrum" approach where every frequency is viewed as a nutrient, leading to the development of meditations that use octaves of a single note to ensure harmonic alignment across all energy centers. Sound healing is presented as a bridge between physical science and spiritual intuition. By understanding the specific frequency ranges of the body and utilizing vocal toning, individuals can move toward a state of "bliss" and internal harmony. Whether through academic study at the Institute or personal meditative practice, the goal remains the same: to achieve a state of peace where the "song" of the body is in perfect alignment with the universe.
Sound Healing with David Gibson The Hierarchy if Vibrations This episode of Sound Healing goes into a comprehensive overview of David Gibson's teachings on sound healing, centered on this weeks topic of "Hierarchy of Vibration." It explores the institutional resources available at the Sound Healing Center and details a four-level framework—Frequency, Timbre, Interval, and Flow—that governs health, nature, and the universe. Institutional Overview and Resources The Sound Healing Center in Sausalito operates through four primary branches: the Globe Institute (the only state-approved sound healing college in the US), a specialized retail store, a therapy center, and a research foundation. These entities provide state-of-the-art education, over 400 healing instruments, and a repository of over 1,000 clinical papers. Notable achievements include a $100,000 grant to integrate sound curriculum into Montessori schools and the development of specialized sound protocols for dementia patients in Northern California. The Hierarchy of Vibration: A Four-Level Framework The core of Gibson's philosophy is the "Hierarchy of Vibration," a model based on physics and music that explains how reality functions at every level. This hierarchy moves from the singular to the complex, integrated through the dimension of time. Understanding these levels provides the "key" to healing, manifestation, and higher consciousness. Frequency (The Single Note): This is the foundational level. Every cell, atom, and element has a specific frequency. Finding the "key" frequency of a cell or an element (like oxygen) can restore health or alter physical states. At a spiritual level, one's "soul frequency" serves as a portal to oneness. Timbre (The Tonality): Timbre is a collection of frequencies and their harmonic relationships. It defines the "quality" of a sound—for instance, the edgy, activating harmonics of a gong versus the warm, calming chord structure of a harp. In the body, organs represent the timbre level. Musical Intervals (The Relationship): This level focuses on the interrelationship between two or more notes. These intervals can be dissonant (useful for breaking up stuck energy) or harmonic (useful for peace). In biological terms, this represents the relationship between different cells and organs. Flow (The Movement): When time is added to the previous levels, it creates rhythm, melody, and flow. This is the most critical level for healing. Health is defined by the "smooth flow" of systems, while disease is characterized by "blockage" or stagnant energy. Healing, Blockage, and Universal Application Healing is the process of returning each level of the hierarchy to a state of peace. While "smooth flow" is the ultimate goal, blockages—whether physical (toxins/cancer), mental (loops/scatteredness), or emotional (trauma/suppression)—interrupt this music. Gibson notes that even nature follows this pattern; a river flows smoothly around a rock without resistance, whereas humans often struggle against life's blockages. The hierarchy extends beyond sound to other vibrational mediums: Color: Primary colors are frequencies; combinations are timbres; color relationships are intervals; and animation is flow. Geometry: A circle is a frequency; the Flower of Life is a timbre; side ratios are intervals; and spinning/movement is flow. Intention: A single focus of love is a frequency, while complex visualizations of energy moving through the body represent flow. The Quantum and Cosmic Scale At the highest and lowest scales, the distinction between frequency and flow blurs. Atoms spin at specific frequencies, and the entire universe can be viewed as a giant "torus" or flow system. Gibson suggests that by measuring the specific "songs" (notes and rhythms) of the 11 medical systems, we can use sound, light, and scalar waves to "run a river of flow" through the body to heal disease. Ultimately, the highest state of being is found in the "center of the flow"—a point of stillness where time ceases and pure creativity begins. David Gibson's "Hierarchy of Vibration" offers a profound map for navigating the complexities of healing. By recognizing that our bodies, minds, and the very universe are composed of music, we can transition from states of chaotic blockage to a harmonious "smooth flow." The ultimate goal is to find stillness within that flow, facilitating deep peace and creative connection to source.
This week on the Sausage of Science, Cara sits down with two trailblazing scholars shaping the future of paleoanthropology from the African continent outward. Dr. Palesa Madupe, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Copenhagen's Globe Institute, shares her pioneering work on enamel proteomics—reconstructing protein sequences from Paranthropus robustus and other South African hominins to unravel questions of taxonomy, sex determination, and sexual dimorphism. Joining her is Professor Becky Ackermann of the University of Cape Town, co-director of the Human Evolution Research Institute (HERI), whose influential research on evolutionary processes, phenotypic variation, and human diversity is reframing our understanding of our evolutionary story. Together, they highlight how African-led research is reshaping the global narrative of human origins, one fossil and one protein at a time. ------------------------------ Find the paper discussed in this episode: Madupe, P. Situated at the intersection of natural science and philosophy, Our Genes: A Philosophical Perspective on Human Evolutionary Genomics (Cambridge University Press, 2023) explores historical practices, investigates current trends, and imagines future work in genetic research to answer persistent, political questions about human diversity. Readers are guided through fascinating thought experiments, complex measures and metrics, fundamental evolutionary patterns, and in-depth treatment of exciting case studies. The work culminates in a philosophical rationale, based on scientific evidence, for a moderate position about the explanatory power of genes that is often left unarticulated. Simply put, human evolutionary genomics - our genes - can tell us much about who we are as individuals and as collectives. However, while they convey scientific certainty in the popular imagination, genes cannot answer some of our most important questions. Alternating between an up-close and a zoomed-out focus on genes and genomes, individuals and collectives, species and populations, Our Genes argues that the answers we seek point to rich, necessary work ahead.

The diverse realm of microorganisms that plays a vital role in our digestion, interacts with our brain chemistry, and even influences our immune systems, is generating a lot of scientific interest. The question is, what else does it do, and how? This episode explores the impact of the chemical signals sent out to our organs by our microbiome, in real time. We look at how they work on a ‘brain on a chip'. And did you know our immune system interacts with the microbes we host , which seems to have an impact on a patient's response to chemotherapy. Microbiome research has largely focused on humans and mice – but what about fish? We see what is going on inside a salmon. Carmen Giordano, associate professor of Bioengineering at the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan, has developed a tool to help researchers see what the signals coming out of bacteria in the microbiome do to the brain and other organs, in real time! Nicola Gagliani heads a laboratory of the same name studying the mechanisms of T-cell biology at the University Medical Center, Hamburg-Eppendorf. He's looking into how quickly our immune systems respond to our diets, via the microbiome. Molecular and evolutionary biologist Morten Limborg is associate professor at the Globe Institute in Copenhagen. Morten is researching how to make farming more sustainable by fine-tuning animal feed in response to their microbiomes.

Sally's background includes a Women's Studies major at the University of Georgia, 620-hour Certification in Clinical Sports Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, and Pregnancy Massage at the Atlanta School of Massage, 100-hour Energy Healing Practitioner program at Lionheart Institute of Transpersonal Energy Healing in Los Angeles, Meditation through the Silva Mind Control Method, Sound Healing studies at The Globe Institute of Sound and Consciousness in San Francisco, Yoga Teacher Training with Lillah Schwartz, Kelly Wood, and Kali Durga. In other words, she is truly a powerhouse dedicated to women's health. She is passionate about how we as women can utilize the power of self healing to become the best possible version of ourselves. She practices bodywork for all bodies, with a specialized focus in pregnancy and postnatal massage. Sally came to the show today to talk about:

Medvirkende: Thomas A.E. Andersen, direktør for Danish Aerospace Company. Elizabeth W. Szatmari-Krasnoff, MA is currently in the Ph.D. program of Transformative Studies with a focus in Consciousness Studies at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Her current inquiry is to study the effect of sound on self-regulation of the autonomic nervous system. She is a certified Energy Healer through the Academy of Intuition Medicine Master Certification Program (MIM), and has a Sound Healing and Therapy Certificate from the Globe Institute. Additionally, she completed her training with the Heartmath Institute. Her masters degree is in Depth Psychology and Mythology from the Pacifica Graduate Institute. She was diagnosed at a young age with 50% hearing loss and has experienced the grief of two miscarriages after the birth of her son. Elizabeth has found music and sound frequencies incredibly healing emotionally, physically and spiritually. She calls music the "language of consciousness". Music, sound, thoughts and emotion are processed in the same part of our brain - by using music and sound frequencies we can help relieve the flight/fight/freeze response of trauma. This is incredible! Elizabeth's clients come to her to significantly reduce the suffering and emotional discomfort of stress, trauma, illness and fatigue through the use of Sound Medicine. Her private practice incorporates a non-medical vibroacustic sound therapy bed (aka sound bed) to provide cellular stimulation through vibration to the cells of the mind and body. This therapy delivers frequencies in a passive and non-invasive process that activates the brain and central nervous system with the specific intent of balancing, optimizing and harmonizing cells of the body and brain into a balanced state. Elizabeth suggests that anyone going through a challenging emotional time in their lives make a "conscious intent to heal playlist" to uplift their mood for at least 20 minutes a day to give your brain a break from the symptoms and rumination of grief, stress and trauma. You can email Elizabeth Krasnoff at elizabeth@iroomstudios.com to find out more about her work and upcoming conference presentations. Please subscribe and leave a review on iTunes and Google Play if you enjoyed this episode and please tell a friend who could use more information on healing modalities. In gratitude, Dr. Ivy
Sound healing, through various techniques and technologies, is the conscious use of the energy of sound to promote wellness in the human system – including the expansion of consciousness. The science on how sound affects us physically is well defined and proven by traditional physics. The science on how sound affects us mentally through brainwave entrainment is also well proven and accepted as we can observe the different brainwave states through an EEG. How sound affects us emotionally is a little less clear, but there is increasing anecdotal evidence of people being dramatically transformed but it. More recently scientists have been turning their attention to how sound affects us at an even deeper level, that of consciousness. This is something that many ancient civilizations and modern indigenous cultures have been doing to access higher levels of consciousness for thousands of years. David Gibson is the President of the Globe Institute, a Sound healing centre based in San Francisco. He is the author of the Guide to Sound Healing, one of the foremost books on how sound affects us physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
