Brian Delamont talks with co-hosts Heather and Keane about how God often works through difficult circumstances to transform us: “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day” (2 Cor. 4:16). “He's in control, and He is good. He leads us into this opportunity to have difficulties and trials become part of the transformation that He longs for us to experience in order to become all that He intends.” “We've been given this amazing gift of the Holy Spirit, the glory of God in us, to move us towards transformation.” 2 Corinthians 3:18-4:1 “Transformation means difficulty, and difficulty can mean transformation, if we choose to let it work in us the way God intends it to.” Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer “It's not a matter of instant change. There is no experience in the Christian life that will reproduce His image in a moment. It is a process, not a crisis.” “You and I are not fully transformed the moment we decide to act on Jesus' invitation to become His apprentices. It's this ongoing process.” 2 Corinthians 4:6-10 “Spiritual growth and transformation doesn't mean we have fewer and fewer challenges. It means that when the challenges come, when I'm hard pressed, for example, my response is that it's more like Jesus. There's the fruit of the Spirit.” “Am I suffering because I'm doing things that are contrary to God's best design for my life, or am I suffering because I'm doing things that are going to reveal His greater glory?” 2 Corinthians 4:15-18 “In the transformation process we don't run to difficulties, or foolishly seek out persecution or ridicule. This is not the life Jesus modeled for us at all [...] Suffering itself is not the purpose. If that were the case then God would be tremendously cruel.” “God has good outcomes for us in mind: Our transformation through difficulties, our growth in joy, perseverance, character, hope, and in being refined to reveal the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 3:2-6 “Our sufferings, our difficulties do more than transform us as individuals. They can transform our friends and our family, our community, as we share and journey through these experiences together.” “It's not instant happiness [...] it's walking with God through these difficult times. And we know the difficulties are actually a given if we follow Jesus.” “In walking through these difficulties that transformation becomes so much more visible. It reveals the genuine power of the gospel in the midst of my difficulties, in the midst of our suffering together. And yet in these challenges, we do not lose heart.” “God is in control. He is sovereign. He sees you, and He is also running the universe in the way He wants it run – in a good way, ultimately, because God is not just sovereign, He is good. And we can rest in that so that we do not lose heart.” Walking with God Through Pain and Suffering by Timothy Keller November Reflection: What do You want to transform in my life right now as I face this difficulty? Human dignity doesn't end when suffering begins—but today more than ever our culture peddles the lie that it's better to choose death than to suffer. Jesus has something better for us. Christ calls us to love every image bearer with His committed, sacrificial, persevering, and selfless love—even when those we care for can contribute absolutely nothing. As a palliative care doctor of over 30 years, Dr. Margaret Cottle has both witnessed and practiced this Christlike love that dignifies every human being from beginning to end. She shares how Christ transforms our experience of suffering, grief, death, and sacrificial love. Listen to be encouraged and inspired by the robust, Christian understanding of human dignity and the glorious responsibility we have to humbly give and receive care. Lead Pastor, Joseph Rahm speaks on the life of King David and Walking With God Through Pain and Suffering.
Once tragedy hits there is life before the tragedy and life after the tragedy. There is often a need for a new normal to be established. Tedashii knows this all too well after tragedy suddenly hit his family. On today's show Tedashii shares with us how he came to know the Lord and how he clung to his faith as he found his new normal after the loss of his child. Tedashii is a tenured artist, musician, communicator, and writer burdened to see equity brought to the marginalized. Growing up in Texas on the fringes of society, family and football were everything - then he found faith in Christ. With this faith, he ventured into vocational ministry and eventually artistry as a member of the 116 on Reach Records. He graduated from the University of North Texas with a duel Bachelor's degree in Anthropology and Sociology to further his ambitions to reach those beyond his city limits. For the last twenty years he's devoted his life to encouraging others to find their identity in God and leading a movement of unashamed believers who desire to engage the world for His glory. He is the founder of the Chase Foundation—an organization to serve families who have lost children by being a present help for future hope, the originator of Chase Wellness, the CEO of Unashamed Ministries, and the host of his podcast The Dash. Tedashii and his wife (Danielle) live in Atlanta, GA and are the proud parents of four amazing boys. You may not have lost a child, but I'm certain you've had tragedy in your life. Today's episode encourages and challenges us to change our perspective of hardships and not our perspective of God.SHOW LINKS:HH Book ClubWalking with God Through Pain and SufferingBurn the BoatsCONNECT WTIH JAMIE
I, like many of you, lament and grieve the status of our world today. It's hard and heartbreaking to watch and see what's going on around the globe but also in our country, evidenced by what's happening in our schools, which in my lifetime has moved from reciting the Lord's Prayer to replacing our country's flag during the month of June. I grieve the reality of what's being taught to our children. I grieve the reality of abortion, the status of mental health, the brokenness of politics (was it ever really “whole”?), I could go on and on. This is of course, not to mention at all the depth of hurts, sorrows and struggles that each of us carry in our personal lives. There is so much unrest today, you and I both know it. Tim Keller wrote a book called, “Walking with God Through Pain and Suffering.” Like many of Keller's books, it was a game-changer for me. One of the quotes I remember most was this: “Look at Jesus. He was perfect, right? And yet he goes around crying all the time. He is always weeping, a man of sorrows. Do you know why? Because he is perfect. Because when you are not all absorbed in yourself, you can feel the sadness of the world. And therefore, what you actually have is that the joy of the Lord happens inside the sorrow. It doesn't come after the sorrow. It doesn't come after the uncontrollable weeping. The weeping drives you into the joy, it enhances the joy, and then the joy enables you to actually feel your grief without its sinking you. In other words, you are finally emotionally healthy.” There is a resilience that God wants us to live with in this world. Paul knew it. It was why he was able to write to the Philippians and say, “I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.” There is a depth of joy that comes from having the secret that Paul knew: When we have Christ we have all that we need. No matter what comes in our lives, the heights of happiness, the depths of despair, there is a joy that transcends all of it. Tim Keller, a prominent Christian author and pastor, has had a significant impact on the practice of biblical counseling. Through his teachings, writings, and leadership, Keller has emphasized the importance of integrating biblical truth with psychological insights. He has also highlighted the need for a holistic approach that addresses the spiritual, emotional, and physical dimensions of human experience. Keller has challenged both counselors and counselees to view the problems of life through the lens of the gospel and to seek hope, healing, and transformation through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. His contributions will undoubtedly continue to shape the field of biblical counseling for years to come. We know that in this life we will face pain and trials but God promises to provide for us and cover all of our needs. We are called to live in hope, to stay in the fight and live from a heart and mindset of victory and we can know that joy will come.“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. Tim Keller uses chapter 4 to discuss theodicies, the various attempts people have made to explain why, if there's a good God, there is so much pain and suffering in the world. Keller examines several of these Christian responses.

Walking with God Through Pain and Suffering by Timothy Keller John 14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%2014&version=NIV#fen-NIV-26670a (a)]; believe also in me. 2 My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.” 1 Thesolonians 4 13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord's word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
The final in the 'You Choose' series. With the book of Job as our guide we explore the question of why God allows pain and suffering and along the way pick up practical helps of how to walk with God through the pain and suffering we experience.

Welcome to BE ENCOURAGED! Podcast! This is episode number 47! Encouragement needed to support one another through the milestones, but also in the NOT so bright days of our lives! Today's conversations is on a very hard topic: Losing a loved one. Even just speaking that sentence out loud does not bring a very encouraging tone. It's a tough one to talk about. When you love hard, you grieve hard! Also, there's a lot to process and unpack, when a wave like that, hits. That's why I want you all to listen in to my guest speaker Amber Dewire. She bravely shares her story and offers up hope, peace, wisdom, and comfort. Amber is also a writer of the blog called, Ministry of Cullen. https://ministryofcullen.wordpress.com/ I have read her writings and I am always amazed at how she points it all back to her faith and trust in God at the end. In this episode, Amber touches on how she untangled and still untangles the sadness, trauma, and guilt that she experienced and experiences. Let's face it, sometimes life can feel like the waves of grief are never ending, but with her story --- I pray it will bring you wisdom, hope, comfort, and peace! I want to thank Amber as she was courageously vulnerable here! That takes courage! The Ministry of Cullen is an example of how much God loves us and wants to make us whole again, even when we experience terrible heartbreak and brokenness. I pray this brings you peace and comfort as we are all reminded that Life is a fragile gift and to be thankful for each day we get to be in it with the people we love! So Pull up a seat, get cozy and ....BE ENCOURAGED! This week in our series, Things Jesus Never Said, we will go deeper into the misconception that when we believe in Jesus we are freed from suffering. God never said that, but we’ll talk in-depth about what He did say: that He will be with us in the midst of our suffering. Joining us this week is our ministry friend, Rachel Short, from Project 938 Church, who helps us grasp how suffering and God’s peace can co-exist, and what we can do to take hold of that truth. This week on the podcast Peter Lee walks us through the difficult task of cultivating joy amidst suffering. God cares so much for us that when we face pain or problems God is always ready to speak to us about our situation. God offers us promises in the midst of our challenges. Gods honour rate on promises is 100%. But we don't want someone's promise, we want to hear from God and then be encouraged by what we read in Scripture as we see God's faithfulness played out. Join Melbourne Inclusive Church as we discover what it means to hold the promises of God during our pain and when we experience problems.Melbourne Inclusive Church boldly and proudly proclaims Christ’s equal love for all people regardless of their ability, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, age, gender or culture. To support the ministry of Melbourne Inclusive Church go to: https://www.michurch.org.au/your-gift
Peace...it's such a rarity today. Researchers have investigated what happens to humans during times of stress or pain. Think about your coming out experience or the breakdown of a relationship. Peace is not something that happens automatically during those times. Yet God's Word tells us that we can rest in God's peace during difficult times. Listen in as we discuss how much God loves us and offers us peace in every situation.Melbourne Inclusive Church boldly and proudly proclaims Christ’s equal love for all people regardless of their ability, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, age, gender or culture. To support the ministry of Melbourne Inclusive Church go to: https://www.michurch.org.au/your-gift

This is a completely different recording from the sermon released Friday even though many of the slides are the same. Michele Cushatt is a self-proclaimed expert of trauma, pain and the deep need for human connection. As a three-time cancer survivor, mother of six, author and speaker, Michele's warmth, strength and transparency will remind you that you're not alone. Michele shares her story, how hope got her through her struggles and how it will help you through yours. Today, you'll be reminded that your best days remain in front of you to live a more inspired life. SHOW NOTES: Fear + worry give a false sense of control. Acknowledge the reality but don't ruminate. Learn to laugh + gravitate towards other who do, too. How do we show up for loved ones with cancer (or other big things) Show support + be willing to do it wrong. Be willing to carry a measure of pain yourself. Hope gives meaning to life: We need to know there is meaning on the other side of pain and these challenges are not going to be wasted. The worst thing that can happen doesn't need to be the end of your life. If we are victims to our circumstances, we don't have a hand free to lend to anyone else. We're too busy trying to save ourselves. How to heal after trauma: Make a list and grieve. Acknowledge what you lost + what opportunities you have as a direct result of your loss. Healing is not done in isolation. Get emotional health and wholeness with help from a counselor, pastor or someone in that space. Find people who would want you to step in and do live with them. Hope is critical. Michele reminds herself daily that no matter what happens today, it can only get better from here. Live with compassion rather than constant disappointment. To overcome trauma, Michele suggested the book Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk and Dr. Daniel J. Siegel work. Get Michele Cushatt's book Undone here. Get Michele Cushatt's book I Am here. We've welcome other guests onto the Live Inspired Podcast that have overcome cancer diagnoses and are living inspired. Listen to author Christine Cain on ep. 82, Olympic figure skater Scott Hamilton on ep. 68 and author Edie Little Sundby on ep. 51. MICHELE CUSHATT'S LIVE INSPIRED 7 1. What is the best book you’ve ever read? Walking with God Through Pain and Suffering by Timothy Keller and The Inner Voice of Love by Henri Nouwen. 2. What is a characteristic or trait that you possessed as a child that you wish you still exhibited today? I was very playful and full of imagination. I've lost some innocence and natural playfulness and I miss that. I'm trying to rediscover play, joy and laughter. 3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be? My Bible. I used my Bible through the darkest days of my life. I wrote all the ugly, hard questions in there and have become part of my journey. It's evidence of the grace that got me through. 4. You are sitting on a bench overlooking a gorgeous beach. You have the opportunity to have a long conversation with anyone living or dead. Who would it be? I would love to pick the brain of Henri Nouwen and all he experienced. The other would be my dad. He died of terminal pancreatic cancer eight weeks before my third diagnosis. I would love to hear him share how all the different pieces of his hard life came together. 5. More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
My eyes are different now that I'm older. When something is too close to my face it gets all blurry and I can't see it clearly. That's how suffering is. When we're too close to it we sometimes can't see clearly how God might be able to use it to develop our character or impact His Kingdom. Riley Clemmon's song "Better For It" reminds us that our good is on the other side of it all. “Contemporary people have a problem is that they think that life is all about finding happiness. Each one tries to decide under what conditions they will be able to be happy and then they work toward bringing about those conditions. To live for happiness means that you are trying to get something out of life. But when suffering comes along, it disrupts the conditions for happiness away, and so suffering destroys all your reason to keep living. Western society has been judged as the weakest and worst at preparing its people for enduring times of loss, tragedy, and grief and its people have become disillusioned and despairing. This introductory message prepares us for the journey that will take place over the next several weeks as we explore Walking with God despite enduring times of suffering.

C. S. Lewis famously said that pain raises almost intolerable intellectual questions. "Where is God in my pain?" "Why is God not stopping this from happening?" This message tries to help us see that pain is evil but in an amazing way God uses it to work in our lives to reconnect people to the beauty and glory of Jesus as our greatest treasure. This message was presented on July 24, 2016 at Mosaic's Little Rock campus.
Aimee's outnumbered in the city that never sleeps… and it keeps getting balder! But wait, it seems Carl and Todd aren't the only balding stars of this show. Come along as they hit the streets with pastor and author Tim Keller to discuss his new book, Center Church: Doing Balanced, Gospel-Centered Ministry in Your City. How are Christians to engage their cultural surroundings and make a true, lasting impact for Christ? If you're a pilot, how do you go about your high-in-the-sky vocation to the glory of God? Do you pass out tracks to passengers ushered off your plane? It's that unceasing question of Christ and Culture. Listen in as the gang talks to Tim to see if the Transformationalist approach is the answer. By the way, what does Keller, (the bald but not-so-bitter), mean by a "wisdom-contest-counter-contrast community"? More importantly, can Aimee hold her own amongst so much baldness? Let's hope her street-smarts are up to snuff! This week the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals would like to offer Tim Keller's Walking with God Through Pain and Suffering as a free giveaway. Just enter here to win.
