This month our guest on Old Nerd in the Gym is Nick Wilson, a Certified EPT Practitioner at the Better Days Center in Centerville, Ohio. Nick Wilson is a co-owner of Better Days Center, located in Centerville Ohio and he has been practicing Emotional Polarity Therapy techniques since 2019 when he joined his wife and business founder, Chanelle Wilson.Nick shares what he and his wife Chanelle do to help people every day. Better Days Center's EPT practitioners offer children, teens and adults a holistic option to traditional talk & drug therapy. Emotional Polarity Therapy techniques are an alternative to traditional talk therapy and uses many holistic practices including the therapeutic use of magnets. Polarity therapy is referred to as "energy medicine" because it uses several techniques to influence energy flow and energy balance in the body. Practitioners believe that energy imbalances, disturbances, or blockages result in disease and can be corrected.EPT has been successfully ending suffering in adults and children in clinical environments for more than 25 years. The immediate result is profound, empowering relief. The long-term result is permanent positive behavior changes, a healthier life and a better world.  EPT uses four major steps to forgiveness and healing including focus, find, fix and forgive. These four steps can release pain from old traumas, forgiveness for self and others and ultimately lead to a more positive happy lifestyle moving forward.  In 1993 Annette Cargioli began a new healing initiative in emotional healthcare. Adults and children were coming to see me to heal physical and emotional pain by releasing “old hurt” through forgiveness. She became known as The Forgiveness Doctor and  called her  discovery Emotional Polarity Technique or EPT. One of the greatest challenges for caregivers is identifying resources available for various services, from home health care to meals on wheels. Struggling to find where to get help can increase stress and affect the health of both the caregiver and your family member. For this reason, most regions have some type of “agency on aging” that provides a clearinghouse and specialty services for seniors and caregivers. These organizations are typically not-for-profit and offer everything from basic information and education to low-cost or no-cost home care, emergency alert equipment and more.Jeff Schairbaum is the educational and outreach liaison for the Greene County Council on Aging (GCCOA) based in Xenia, Ohio. The GCCOA is one of countless agencies around the country that provides resources and education to caregivers and seniors. Yoga is a Hindu practice which helps to focus the mind, body, and spirit. Those who practice yoga will attest to its benefits in their overall wellness and how it helps ease the mind. In this episode, Old Nerd in the Gym Fitness Podcast hosts Gery Deer and Julie Barth join their own yoga instructor (sometimes referred to as a “yogi”), Carmen Milano at one of her practice spaces in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Carmen grew up in Chicago but has lived in Dallas, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Portland, and Skipperville, Alabama. But 20 years ago, decided to put roots down in Yellow Springs. In her own words, “At 49, in the pursuit of aging well and as gracefully as possible, I began to intentionally move my body through walking often, riding my bike around the village, and practicing yoga.”Eventually, she began to teach the yoga classes she found so beneficial. Her class members frequently share stories of health challenges and what benefits yoga has brought to them. “I love being included in the process and journey of living well through yoga,” she told us. Today, Carmen teaches at the Antioch Wellness Center at Antioch College and at the Kula Cooperative. She has taken time out of her busy schedule and opened her doors at Kula Cooperative to share her insight on the benefits of Yoga.
