Parents of under-fives in England are to be offered official advice on how long their children should spend watching TV or looking at computer screens. It comes as government research shows about 98% of children under two were watching screens on a daily basis - with parents, teachers and nursery staff saying youngsters were finding it harder to hold conversations or concentrate on learning. Comfort food and a bottomless snack bag for our season finale. Helena Bonham Carter is an award-winning English actress known for her incredible performances across films including the Harry Potter movies, Howards End, Planet of the Apes, Sweeney Todd, The King's Speech and TV series such as Toast and The Crown. There are certainly too many credits to mention for a star who made her debut in 1985 in A Room with a View.  She's with us to talk about her latest role as Lady Caterham in Agatha Christie's Seven Dials, which starts streaming on Netflix from 15 January. This is her first time in a Queen of Crime adaptation, with co-stars including Mia McKenna-Bruce and former Dish guest, Martin Freeman.  Helena comes equipped with her sizeable snack bag, curated especially for her life on-set, but there's still room for Dish's first cheese toasties, featuring five different cheeses. The cheese toasties with sticky shallots are paired with the Loved & Found Feteasca Alba Brut, which sadly is no longer available to buy. The Waitrose wine experts have since lined up the perfect replacement; a glass of Valdo Elevantum Prosecco. For this episode, Nick, Angela and Helena also enjoy a Mother Root and tonic, alongside the many, many other beverages that make it on to the table.  From the perilous times on the set of Seven Dials to helping Helena overcome her rice intimidation, we finish up season 8 of Dish with a hearty serving of good company. Bangers and mash in action for our first poet. Tim Key, an English poet, comedian, actor and screenwriter, joins Nick and Angela to fire up Dish in 2026. Last year was a huge one for Tim, made notable by the release of The Ballad Of Wallis Island, a film he stars in alongside best friend Tom Basden. The pair wrote the screenplay together, basing it on a short film they had made nearly 20 years earlier. It has amassed critical and popular acclaim, winning three British Independent Film Awards.  Alongside The Ballad... Tim released a book of poems, L.A. Baby!, and launched his latest stand-up show Loganberry, which returns for a new tour across the UK from February. He's a long-time collaborator with former Dish guest Steve Coogan, appearing with Coogan in Saxondale and a number of Alan Partridge projects.  Tim loves the pub, loves fish and chips, and believes he has worked out how to get the most out of Dish through his list of likes and dislikes. With a Five Points beer in hand, he is served sticky sausage & apple braise with a mash that, as always, becomes quite the talking point. Waitrose's wine experts have paired the meal with a Château Maris Organic Les Planels. In Episode 148, astrologers Kristina Martin and Tara Redfield close out 2025 by analyzing the famously spooky and artistic bond between Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton through the lens of astrology.   Delving into Helena's natal chart, they reveal a sharp Gemini Sun conjunct Mercury in the 8th House—a placement that drives a shadowed intelligence obsessed with the taboo and mysterious. Her Libra Ascendant explains her early "English Rose" public image, while a Leo Moon fuels a passionate, dramatic, and warmth-seeking heart.   Tim Burton's chart, meanwhile, features a Gemini Ascendant squared by a Sun-Pluto conjunction in meticulous Virgo, creating a core tension between scattered creativity and obsessive control. With Pluto in the 4th House, his signature dark family fantasy themes emerge clearly. A sextile from Mercury to Neptune elevates his otherworldly imagination, and a Venus-Uranus conjunction sparks his uniquely eccentric aesthetic.   Their synastry reveals compelling dynamics: their Sun stelliums square one another, suggesting intense mental battles and ego clashes. A Mars square Pluto adds a layer of ruthless power struggle. Yet, supportive Saturn-Moon aspects provide maturity and a solid foundation for both family and work. Together, their Leo placements amplify shared creativity and flair, while their Gemini synchronicity can make them feel like twins. But with no major Venus-Mars aspect, can their romantic compatibility score truly measure up? Tune in to this episode for a deep dive into the astrological secrets behind one of Hollywood's most intriguing creative partnerships.   Book a Reading with us! Back in 2021, we recorded our second ever wrap-up episode for our second play series: Twelfth Night. We both watched two versions of Twelfth Night: Trevor Nunn's 1996 film and She's the Man, then we also each watched an additional version. Kourtney watched the The Globe's 2012 production starring Mark Rylance, and Elyse watched National Theatre's 2017 production featuring Tamsin Greig.  But then, tragedy struck when Kourtney went to edit the episode! The audio files for the majority of the episode were corrupted and could not be used. The only usable audio was the portion of our conversation about She's the Man. So, we released what we could as our "Twelfth Night: Wrap Up" episode.  Since that day, we've dreamed about going back and revisiting the three productions that were lost to technological issues. Today, we are so excited to revisit those productions and share our 2025 thoughts with you.  Shakespeare Anyone? is created and produced by Kourtney Smith and Elyse Sharp. You know when one of your reviews is "I'm not sure if Kenneth will break into song at any moment", you're either getting something that's gonna be awesome or bordering on disaster. This film is a mixed bag, which is ironic, because MARY SHELLEY'S FRANKENSTEIN, directed and starring Kenneth Branagh, is about a mad scientist who takes a bunch of dead bodies, stitches them together and brings them back to life. It's a tale as old as 1818, as they say. If the dazzling lights of contraptions pulsating, buzzing, and electrifying don't grab you, Kenneth's washboard definitely will!

We leave this section with so many questions - How did the launch go? Would Imogen decide to enlist an agent? Any other major life events likely to happen in the following months? Oh and what was that anecdote involving Helena Bonham-Carter?…Well worry not, Imogen kindly agreed to chat to us via the magic of Zencastr and all the above are answered! At last… our pod is complete again.” Join Ian, Liam & Megs (she always goes last), along with Friend of the Podcasters: Beadle Steve, for our 304th episode as we sharpen our razors, roll out the pie dough, and dive into the gothic, gory glory of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007). This week, we're not just talking Burton's blood-soaked macabre attempt at a masterpiece — we're also sharing our collective memories from our very own recent production of Sweeney Todd! Expect behind-the-scenes stories, backstage laughs, and maybe a few stories about trap doors and jettisons of blood This week we discuss: How Tim Burton's adaptation balances musical theatre grandeur with cinematic horror — and where it falls short. Johnny Depp's take on the title role: tortured genius or just Burton doing Burton again? Helena Bonham Carter's Mrs. Lovett — delightful, deranged, and determined to make the worst pies in London. How Alan Rickman and Timothy Spall manage to be both repulsive and magnetic - but can they sing?  Who do we think could've done it better? The use of colour, lighting, and sound — and why did the crew need so many garbage bags? How Sweeney Todd manages to turn tragedy into operatic spectacle without losing its emotional sting. We discuss at great length a couple of elements that one of us just couldn't overlook We share our favourite moments (and biggest mishaps) from our own stage production — from what it's like to be reviewed ourselves to unexpected laughter in the wrong places and if you can imagine it - Ian flexing in the spotlight What it's like performing Sondheim's music live — the challenge, the rhythm, and the glorious chaos. Beadle Steve joins us to talk about his experience, his favourite scenes, and whether he's still hearing “Ding Dong!” in his sleep... and what happened to the ensemble anyway? And finally, whether Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is the Best Film Ever — or just the bloodiest musical we've ever loved. To celebrate the release of Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein (Netflix, 2025), Bella and Nick revisit three unforgettable film adaptations of Mary Shelley's iconic Gothic novel. From the classic Universal monster movies that defined early Hollywood horror, to Mel Brooks' legendary parody and Kenneth Branagh's (somewhat) faithful 1994 retelling, this episode of the Gimme Three Podcast dives into how each filmmaker reimagined Frankenstein for a new generation.First, James Whale and Boris Karloff create the pre-Code masterpiece that cemented the image of Frankenstein's monster in pop culture. Second, Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks deliver a comedic yet affectionate homage in the cult favorite Young Frankenstein (1974). Finally, Kenneth Branagh directs Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994), starring Robert De Niro as The Creature in a lavish, Shakespearean take on the timeless story.Whether you're a horror movie buff, a classic film fan, or just curious how Mary Shelley's Frankenstein keeps coming back to life on screen, this episode has you covered.❗️SEND US A TEXT MESSAGE ❗️Support the showSign up for our Patreon for exclusive Bonus Content.Follow the podcast on Instagram @gimmethreepodcastYou can keep up with Bella on Instagram @portraitofacinephile or Letterboxd You can keep up with Nick: on Instagram @nicholasybarra, on Twitter (X) @nicholaspybarra, or on LetterboxdShout out to contributor and producer Sonja Mereu. Sam Neill plays the infamous wizard, alongside a stacked cast that features Helena Bonham Carter, Rutger Hauer, Martin Short, Isabella Rossellini, and Miranda Richardson. This is also a two-part TV movie, so we're really breaking all the rules with this episode.Join our Patreon for our bonus episodes! https://www.patreon.com/oldiebutagoodiepodFollow the show!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oldiebutagoodiepod/Facebook: https://fb.me/oldiebutagoodiepodPodcast Platforms: https://linktr.ee/oldiebutagoodiepodGot feedback? This week, the boys cover “Fight Club”, the 1999 movie that is both an of-its-time dark satire and a should-have-been-released-in-2025 heat check. Before we dive into it, we need to get drinking! So we discuss the new Paul Thomas Anderson “Dr. Strangelove”-esque gripping satire (maybe?), “One Battle After Another”, the new Daniel Day-Lewis film “Anemone”, directed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, and John made it to the red carpet premier of Guillermo del Toro's latest fright film “Frankenstein”. John's team is kidnapped by an old friend this week in The Lost Boys. And coming soon to Netflix near you, The Found Boys starring Christopher Walken and Helena Bonham Carter, because, somehow, there is no movie or TV show called The Found Boys. So, we make one up. We kind of get why, but it's funny to think of Aiden just being a fully petulant teenager in this episode. The interesting thing is, though, no one denies that the enzyme can increase a person's physical abilities, but the big problem that no one is addressing is the effect this has on everyone's mental health.  How did Ford's men hack the DHD so it would only dial the planet they wanted to go to? They couldn't fix the dart or do much of anything else, but they knew how to do that? And, once John has everyone scooped up in the dart beam, he has the upper hand. He doesn't have to go through with the mission. No one can do anything about it. Send us a textIn this episode, we discuss which actors should reprise their roles in the new Harry Potter TV show. Enjoy!Topics/Summary:·      Listen to episode 287, “Tom Felton is returning to Broadway. Who should return to the TV show?” Here!·       4:10 Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy. He was the perfect blend of haughty, rude, and fearful. He portrayed a fantastic arc, and really showed us what it means to be afraid. Without a doubt, he would be a great addition. ·      10:21 Alan Rickman as Snape. He shouldn't return. His performance was too perfect. There are no changes I can think to make to it, and so I don't think Alan Rickman should change that. Getting another actor puts a stopper in the bottle of his performance and really immortalizes it.·      18:25 Matthew Lewis as Neville Longbottom. This is an interesting case, because there's no chance for him to return as Neville, but there are other possibilities. Perhaps, he can be a herbology professor who watches over himself in a way, and sees just how much he grows.·      24:41 Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange. I don't think she should return, because she absolutely crushed it. We should get some new blood in there to preserve the performance.·      27:00 Jude Law as Dumbledore. I know, he doesn't really count, but the Fantastic Beasts Dumbledore is pretty close to the same time as some of the flashbacks we got in the films. It would be super cool if Jude Law played the younger version of him. It would put in a natural separation that Dumbledore himself wants between who he was, and who he wants to be.Having anything you want to hear or say?
