TCU football got off to a brutal start in Week Zero, falling to North Carolina in Dublin, and Bigger Than 12 is breaking down everything that went wrong. Jake Brend and Derek Duke examine TCU's lack of discipline, costly penalties, offensive struggles, and the disappointing debut of quarterback Jaden Craig. The guys debate how much blame belongs on Craig, the offensive line, and TCU's receivers, while also giving credit to a TCU defense that held North Carolina to just 15 points and under 100 rushing yards. They also discuss whether this loss says something bigger about Sonny Dykes, who is now facing increased pressure after failing to consistently get the Horned Frogs back to the level they reached during their College Football Playoff run. Plus, Jake and Derek revisit the growing "Ireland curse" and argue whether Big 12 teams should continue playing Week Zero games in Dublin. They also look ahead to the rest of the opening weekend, including Baylor vs. Auburn, Cincinnati vs. Boston College, and Colorado vs. Georgia Tech, before making their picks and discussing the Big 12's early-season outlook. Frank Sinatra once sang about having a few regrets. Geoff Collins has them, too. The biggest, he told OwlScoop.com this week on The Scoop, was departing Temple in 2018 after two successful seasons as the program's head football coach. “The best two years of my life,” Collins said, “and my biggest regret was leaving.” Collins opened up about a story he said he had only previously told his wife, Jennifer. Just before Collins left Temple to take the head coaching job at Georgia Tech, former Temple and NFL head coach Bruce Arians told him not to take it.  “There's a lot of things that people try to tell you, and a lot of times, they're right,” Collins said. “And sometimes you listen, sometimes you don't, and that's one of those moments.” Listen to OwlScoop.com's full interview with Collins on this week's bonus podcast episode here. Collins talked to OwlScoop Editor John DiCarlo about several topics, including moving on after getting fired at Georgia Tech, returning to Temple last week to spend time with current Owls head coach K.C. Keeler and his staff, memories of coaching future NFL stars like Fletcher Cox and Darius Slay and what's ahead for him in his career.

The Tennessee Vols defense is beginning to show some extremely encouraging signs under new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles after a much stronger performance in Tennessee's second preseason scrimmage. Charlie Burris and Zach Ragan break down what they're hearing about the Vols' defense on the Big Orange Podcast, why Tennessee finally appears to be developing a defensive identity and the one position that still creates some legitimate concern entering the 2026 college football season. Tennessee's defense reportedly bounced back in a major way during the Vols' second scrimmage. The defense created multiple turnover opportunities against Faizon Brandon and George MacIntyre, while Tennessee's defensive front generated pressure and players such as Xavier Gilliam continued to create optimism along the interior. More importantly, Josh Heupel believes the defense is developing a personality under Jim Knowles. That's a potentially significant development for a Tennessee defense that struggled with communication, consistency and identity last season. Charlie and Zach explain why Knowles' ability to build his scheme around the strengths of Tennessee's personnel could put the Vols' defenders in a much better position to succeed. The goal doesn't have to be creating an elite defense immediately. Tennessee simply needs to make a substantial improvement from what it put on the field last season. There are still questions. Edge rusher remains one of the biggest concerns on Tennessee's roster. The Vols don't have much proven SEC production at the position, which could put additional pressure on Tennessee's interior defensive line to generate a consistent pass rush. The guys also discuss Daevin Hobbs' health, Jordan Norman's opportunity, the development of Tennessee's secondary after the loss of Edrees Farooq and why getting linebacker Arion Carter back for the Georgia Tech game is such an important development. Carter's NCAA suspension has officially been reduced to one game, meaning he'll miss Tennessee's season opener against Furman but will be eligible to return when the Vols travel to face Georgia Tech. And, of course, Tennessee finally has its starting quarterback. Josh Heupel officially named five-star true freshman Faizon Brandon the Vols' QB1 after his competition with George MacIntyre. Charlie and Zach briefly discuss why Brandon was the right choice and why the freshman's combination of talent, maturity and upside makes his future in Josh Heupel's offense so exciting. Has Jim Knowles already changed Tennessee's defense? Can the Vols generate enough pressure off the edge? How much improvement does this unit need to make in 2026? The Tennessee Vols have officially named true freshman Faizon Brandon their starting quarterback for the 2026 college football season. Austin Stanley fills in for Charlie Burris alongside Zach Ragan for an immediate Big Orange Podcast reaction to Josh Heupel selecting Brandon over redshirt freshman George MacIntyre. Brandon entered Tennessee as a five-star prospect and continued building momentum throughout spring practice, summer workouts and fall camp. Although MacIntyre had an additional year inside Heupel's offense, Brandon's arm talent, athleticism, playmaking ability and command of the system proved enough to win the job. Austin and Zach explain why Heupel made the more difficult—and potentially more consequential—decision by starting Brandon immediately. Heupel could have given MacIntyre the opening assignment and maintained an easier path to Brandon later. Instead, Tennessee committed to the 18-year-old true freshman as its QB1 entering the season opener against Furman. What are fair expectations for Brandon during his freshman season? Austin examines the production of first-year starting quarterbacks in Heupel's offense, while Zach projects Brandon to complete approximately 60 percent of his passes, throw for roughly 2,600 to 2,900 yards and finish with fewer than 10 interceptions. They also discuss how DeSean Bishop, Tennessee's offensive line and an experienced group of pass catchers can help Brandon through the inevitable growing pains of playing quarterback in the SEC. Brandon's mobility could provide another important dimension. Tennessee has struggled in certain short-yardage and red-zone situations during the Heupel era, and Brandon's size and athleticism could help turn stalled possessions into touchdowns. The conversation also examines what Brandon's victory means for George MacIntyre. Tennessee still needs to develop MacIntyre as a legitimate second option, especially during early games against Furman and Kennesaw State. MacIntyre has only nine collegiate pass attempts, and the Vols cannot afford for his first meaningful experience to arrive unexpectedly against Georgia Tech, Texas or another SEC opponent. How long is Brandon's leash now that he has already defeated MacIntyre for the job? Could the quarterback competition reopen if Brandon struggles? And what could this decision eventually mean for MacIntyre in the transfer portal? Austin and Zach break down every layer of Josh Heupel's biggest decision entering the 2026 Tennessee football season. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In "Eliminating EDI Headaches: Managed Integration vs. Ticket Queues", Joe Lynch speaks with Co-Founder and Leader of Atadex, Mitch Bernet, about how fully managed EDI and API integrations eliminate operational bottlenecks, speed up customer onboarding, and drive supply chain profitability. About Mitch Bernet Mitch Bernet is the Co-Founder and Leader of Atadex, bringing decades of supply chain expertise and executive leadership to the role. Raised in Cleveland, Ohio, he earned a degree from Providence College, an MBA in Finance from Creighton University, and launched his career at Union Pacific Railroad before taking senior management roles at Conrail, APL Logistics, and Hub Group. A seasoned entrepreneur, he went on to found Integra Logistics in 2003 and co-found Coyote Logistics in 2008—growing the Atlanta-based business through its eventual acquisition by UPS—before taking a brief hiatus and returning to the industry to co-found Atadex. Married to Rosanna for 35 years, he is the proud father of two children, Matthew and Katherine, who graduated from Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia, respectively. About Atadex Atadex is a full-service EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) and API integration provider exclusively focused on the supply chain and logistics industry. The company was founded to deliver fully managed, fast, low-cost data integration—handling everything end to end so clients don't need in-house EDI expertise and positioning itself as an alternative to legacy EDI vendors, self-serve platforms, and traditional professional services. Atadex connects any TMS or WMS (including Blue Yonder, Trimble, Manhattan, Turvo, Shipwell, TAI, and McLeod) to any trading partner, supporting all major formats (X12, EDIFACT, API, XML, CSV, JSON) and transaction types. The company processes over 50 million messages per month and has completed more than 5,000 go-lives, pairing each client with a dedicated, US-based account manager. Its goal is to fundamentally change how data integration is managed and serviced, helping clients improve productivity, performance, and profitability. Target customers include carriers and 3PLs with complex partner networks, warehouses and 4PLs seeking a fully outsourced EDI department, and TMS/WMS providers wanting to offer integration without building their own delivery teams. Atadex also offers AssetMaps (fleet consolidation) and Freight Board Central (freight board integration). Key Takeaways: Eliminating EDI Headaches: Managed Integration vs. Ticket Queues In "Eliminating EDI Headaches: Managed Integration vs. Ticket Queues", Joe Lynch speaks with Co-Founder and Leader of Atadex, Mitch Bernet, about how fully managed EDI and API integrations eliminate operational bottlenecks, speed up customer onboarding, and drive supply chain profitability. EDI as a Profitability Driver, Not Just an IT Task: Data integration directly impacts the bottom line by eliminating manual data entry, reducing human error, and allowing logistics staff to manage up to 25% more volume per person without adding head count. Overcoming System Incompatibility via "Universal Translation": Supply chain tech remains heavily fragmented between legacy systems (like mainframes or EDI X12) and modern RESTful APIs. Atadex acts as a universal translator, mapping and converting any data format into whatever spec a trading partner requires. Speed to Integration Equals Speed to Revenue: Onboarding delays can stall new customer relationships for months and destroy projected margins. Rapid implementation and proactive partner coordination directly protect customer retention and protect sales commissions. Fully Managed Service vs. Anonymous Ticket Queues: Logistics operates on extreme urgency where every minor issue feels like a major emergency. Relying on dedicated, domain-expert project managers who proactively catch failed transmissions beats putting in tickets with traditional tech providers. Decoupling Customer Support from Technical Engineering: Mirroring the operational structure pioneer Jeff Silver used at Coyote Logistics, separating client-facing project managers from back-end technical mappers ensures seamless communication and higher overall customer satisfaction. Transparent Pricing Over Complex VAN Fees: Traditional EDI value-added networks (VANs) often obscure costs behind per-kilo-character charges. Simplifying billing to clear, per-message rates provides total transparency so companies can calculate precise integration costs per trading partner. Practical AI Integration with a "People-First" Foundation: While AI tools (like Claude) are being developed internally to speed up complex mapping and protocol translation, technology will supplement—rather than replace—the critical human element required to support high-stakes logistics operations. He’s currently following Democratic Incumbent Jon Ossoff and his effort to reclaim his U.S. Senate seat this November. Polling data currently has Ossoff leading his Republican opponent, Mike Collins, but there are still several miles on the campaign trail until the midterm election. Gringlas shares his firsthand look at how voters are reacting during Senator Ossoff’s campaign stops. Atlanta is widely known as the city in a forest, but that forest is depleting. Of the city’s more than 84,000 acres, almost 40,000 acres are covered by its tree canopy. However, that latest assessment by Georgia Tech shows Atlanta has lost a quarter of an acre of trees every day between 2008 and 2023. The city had a goal of reaching 50% canopy coverage, but Atlanta moved further away from that goal in the latest assessment, now dropping to 45.7% tree coverage. Officials from Trees Atlanta and Georgia Tech provide more details on the data, and what’s leading to the disappearing canopy. He argues that cancer may be better understood as a disease driven by chromosomal imbalance—known as aneuploidy—and chromosomal instability. Why do cancers progress, spread, recur and develop resistance? What did pioneering biologist Theodor Boveri recognize about abnormal chromosomes more than a century ago? Why did genetic mutation theories come to dominate cancer research, and what happens to scientists who question an established medical consensus?Part scientific investigation and part personal memoir, The Outsider recounts Rasnick's transformation from a conventional pharmaceutical and biotechnology researcher into an outspoken scientific dissident. We discuss institutional dogma, research funding, professional pressure, independent thought and the human cost of challenging powerful systems.David Rasnick earned his PhD in chemistry from Georgia Tech in 1978, spent approximately two decades working in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, and previously authored The Chromosomal Imbalance Theory of Cancer. For today's podcast, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb's guest is Nick Duffy, Director of Instruction at Athletic Motion Golf and coach of the 2024 NCAA individual champion. Nick started working with his star pupil at 14 and rebuilt an unorthodox, already-winning swing into a championship game...so we dug into everything he's learned about developing junior golfers, and why so much talent gets wasted. We cover the growth-spurt "drop-off" (why bones grow first, muscles second, and the nervous system last — and what it does to a young swing), the two things that quietly end junior careers, how over-involved parents can drive a kid out of the game, and the coach-vs-parent line (the famous Butch Harmon & Earl Woods conversation). Nick shares his student's wild path — two years of Singapore military service, visualizing his swing on a Navy boat, then qualifying for a college event straight off the boat — and the mental fortitude that mattered more than any technique. Plus: building a backup shot for the days your swing isn't there, the "smaller field" mindset, and inside-the-ropes stories from the 2024 Masters and US Open at Pinehurst. Then we get into instruction: why the trail arm is the #1 fault masking everything else, the "parlor trick" of fixing the backswing so impact fixes itself, why the best players want the simplest information, and why your body pivot has to match your shot shape.

Coach Collins reflects on his playing days at Western Carolina, beginning his coaching career at the high school level, and the mistakes that helped shape him early in his career. He also discusses stepping away from on-field coaching to work in player personnel at Georgia Tech and Alabama, where he gained valuable experience alongside Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, and Curt Cignetti. Because the full conversation lasted nearly two hours, we divided it into two parts so coaches wouldn't miss any of Coach Collins' insights. Tennessee football is entering the 2026 season with enormous expectations, but is this finally the year the Volunteers take the next step under Josh Heupel? On this episode of the A to Z Sports Big Orange Podcast, Charlie Burris and Zach Ragan ask three huge questions about Tennessee football heading into the season. Is this the year Josh Heupel makes the correct quarterback decision the first time? Is this the year new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles gets his defense playing at a high level immediately? And perhaps most importantly, is this the year Tennessee finally avoids the dreaded "Heupel loss" against a team the Vols should beat? The conversation begins with the latest Tennessee fall camp news. Ty Redmond returned to practice after missing time with an illness, although he was working on the side, while Ethan Davis remained out with an undisclosed injury. The guys also discuss comments from Tennessee offensive line coach Glen Elarbee, who was remarkably candid about the performance of his offensive line during the 2025 season. Elarbee acknowledged that his group struggled when it mattered most, creating significant expectations for a talented 2026 offensive line featuring players such as David Sanders. Charlie and Zach then turn their attention to Tennessee's biggest offseason question: the quarterback competition between Faizon Brandon and George MacIntyre. Is this finally the year Josh Heupel gets his quarterback decision right on the first attempt? The hosts revisit Heupel's decision to start Joe Milton over Hendon Hooker in 2021 and discuss why the quarterback position can be so difficult to evaluate before the lights come on. With Tennessee's first scrimmage approaching, the quarterback battle is entering an important stage, and the second scrimmage could help determine when the Vols ultimately settle on a starter. The podcast also examines Jim Knowles' first season as Tennessee's defensive coordinator. Knowles has said his defense is progressing faster than it did at previous stops because he was able to bring coaches and players familiar with his system to Knoxville. Charlie and Zach discuss whether that continuity, combined with Tennessee's work under new strength and conditioning coach Derek Owings, could allow the Vols defense to make a dramatic improvement from last season. Finally, the guys tackle one of the most important questions for Tennessee's 2026 season: Can Josh Heupel avoid another "Heupel loss"? The hosts identify several games where Tennessee could potentially stumble, including Georgia Tech, Auburn, Arkansas, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. With a young quarterback potentially making his first SEC road starts, Tennessee could be more vulnerable to an upset than in previous seasons. The discussion also explores the increasing parity in college football. With NIL, the transfer portal and roster movement creating more competitive balance across the SEC, Charlie and Zach argue that there are fewer truly "unbeatable" games than ever before. Even highly talented teams can lose to unexpected opponents, making Tennessee's ability to avoid bad losses especially important if the Vols want to compete for the SEC Championship and College Football Playoff. With the first Tennessee football scrimmage coming up Saturday, the answers to these questions are about to become much clearer. Is this finally the year for Tennessee? Watch the latest Big Orange Podcast featuring Charlie Burris and Zach Ragan for the latest Tennessee Volunteers football news, fall camp analysis, quarterback battle updates, Jim Knowles' defense, Josh Heupel analysis, SEC football discussion and everything surrounding the Vols heading into the 2026 season.
