AI is an extremely powerful tool that is currently accessible to anyone with an internet connection. We, in the Latino community, can use to give ourselves the leg up we may not have had access to before. Say, for example, you couldn't get a Master's in Marketing Data Analytics when you were in college, but now you need to make a marketing plan for your business. AI can help you create a personalized marketing plan that appeals to any and every algorithm out there. That being said, not everyone knows how to use AI or use it well. A lot of people are afraid that AI is going to steal their jobs and leave them destitute. But AI is a tool - it's as much a tool for you as a hammer is to a carpenter. And in this week's episode, we're talking to an expert in tech to teach you how to take your business to the next level. This week's guest is Nikki Barua, the Interim CEO of Latinas in Tech. Nikki is a serial entrepreneur, keynote speaker, bestselling author, and leading expert in helping people and organizations accelerate success. In her 25-year career in innovation, she has helped global brands transform their culture and capabilities. Now she is on a mission to help business leaders reinvent the way they lead, live, and succeed in the age of AI. Nikki has won numerous awards, including Entrepreneur of the Year by ACE, named as an EY North America Entrepreneurial Winning Woman, honored as one of the 21 Leaders for the 21st Century, recognized as Entrepreneur Magazine's 100 Most Influential Women, LA Woman of Influence by The Business Journals and Women of Entrepreneurship by LA Lakers. Nikki holds three Master's degrees and is a lifelong learner with insatiable curiosity. She believes that we are all limitless and leads her life committed to inspiring people to live up to their highest potential. In this week's episode, Nikki tells us how we can level up as business leaders and use AI to take our businesses to the next level. We are entering a new age of leadership, and I don't want any of you to get left behind just because you didn't know how to use the most powerful tool of our generation. Tune in to hear how you can leverage AI to improve your business and hear all the leadership lessons Nikki has learned to become the powerhouse she is today.
The final album with Jim Morrison in the lineup is by far their most blues-oriented, and the singer's poetic ardor is undiminished, with cuts that rate among their finest and most disturbing work. The seven-minute title track was a car-cruising classic that celebrated both the glamour and seediness of Los Angeles; the other long cut, the brooding, jazzy "Riders on the Storm," was the group at its most melodic and ominous. A worthy finale from the original quartet. Newsly app http://Newsly.me promo code: RBRMUS
LA Woman from The Doors and Nirvana's In Utero both came right before the tragic deaths of their lead singers. The Doors were at a transitional phase, as Morrison became less and less interested in being a rock star. Los Angeles here seems to represent that part of their lives and this record is their goodbye to it.Nirvava's new fame as a result of Nevermind really put Cobain into a dark place. In Utero explores the depths of depression and everything that comes with it. And yet somehow, buried underneath all the grime and angst are beautifully written songs that continue to engage decades later.Join us as we talk over these two classic records and the others gracing our turntables as of late.
Our Mojo's rose recording this episode. We hadn't played this album much since high school and college, and it brought back a lot of memories. We rediscover the songs being in 2 camps: the blues songs and the "cocktail hour songs" that we loved. Certain songs like "Love Her Madly" and "Riders on the Storm" weren't well received by their long time producer, Paul Rothschild, who opted out as he felt the band and Engineer Bruce Botnik would be better in the role, and we think he was right. The time period of the recording, early '71, overlaps Jim Morrison's sentencing to hard time for "The Miami incident". Shortly after recording this album, he and his girlfriend, Pamela Courson, flew to Paris, where they lived for several months before he died of a heart attack. Despite the tragic tail that plays out in real life (for Jim and Pamela), the album is rich in philosophical, mythical, political, cultural and psychological themes that permeate through the music, especially some of the non hits that we rank at the end. We get deep when we need to while still being as silly as ever. We had a blast recording this and we hope you enjoy listening!Support the show

Welcome back to another edition of Broken Records, where Steve and Remfry are charged with the unenviable task of finding the worst album ever made. This week we're looking at Other Voices, the 7th studio album from the LA psychedelic rock band The Doors, released on the 18th of October 1971. In the aftermath of the release of arguably their finest album, 1971's LA Woman, The Doors were rocked with the untimely passing of their iconic frontman Jim Morrison. They had already been writing as a three piece without the singer and had composed enough material to make a follow up, assuming that Morrison would return from his new home in Paris to complete the material but unfortunately, he passed away July 3rd 1971 before he was able to record any vocals. With this news rocking the band they became somewhat punch drunk, stumbling around trying to recruit the likes of Paul McCartney and Iggy Pop, before deciding that Jim Morrison, one of the greatest rock singers ever, didn't need replacing and that both guitarist Robbie Krieger and keyboardist Ray Manzarek could handle vocal duties themselves. The result was Other Voices, released a mere three months after Morrison's passing, it stripped The Doors, not just of an iconic voice, but of almost all personality they previously had. In terms of bad ideas, this is right up there, luckily they saw sense and disbanded in 1973, but the appearance of Other Voices in their discography remains a troubling reminder of a very troubling time for the band.
Of The final episode The Doors Dudes (a six week mini run of a podcast within a podcast)we have our good friend Jake Iverson on to discuss the final works and days of Jim Morrison.

L.A. WOMAN: 50TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION includes the original album newly remastered by The Doors' longtime engineer and mixer Bruce Botnick, two bonus discs of unreleased studio outtakes, and the stereo mix of the original album on 180-gram virgin vinyl. For this new collection, the original album has been expanded with more than two hours of unreleased recordings taken from the sessions for L.A. Woman, allowing the listener to experience the progression of each song as it developed in the studio. An early demo for “Hyacinth House” recorded at Robby Krieger's home studio in 1969 is also included. The outtakes feature Jim Morrison, John Densmore, Robby Krieger, and Ray Manzarek working in the studio with two additional musicians. The first was rhythm guitarist Marc Benno, who worked with Leon Russell in The Asylum Choir. The other was bassist Jerry Scheff, who was a member of Elvis Presley's TCB band.Among the outtakes of album tracks, you can also hear the band joyously ripping through the kinds of classic blues songs that Morrison once described as “original blues.” There are great takes of Junior Parker's “Mystery Train,” John Lee Hooker's “Crawling King Snake,” Big Joe Williams' “Baby Please Don't Go,” and “Get Out Of My Life Woman,” Lee Dorsey's funky 1966 classic, written by his producer Allen Toussaint. In the collection's extensive liner notes, veteran rock journalist David Fricke explores the whirlwind making of the album, which would be the last with Morrison, who died in Paris a few months after its release. “Morrison may never have come back to The Doors,” he writes. “But with his death, L.A. Woman became rebirth, achievement, and finale, all at once. It's the blues too – original blues, as Morrison promised. Fifty years later, there is still nothing like it.”This episode is from an archive from the KPFK program Profiles adapted for podcast. 1971 was a tumultuous time for The Doors as Jim Morrison faced legal troubles, battled substance abuse, and their longtime producer walked out. But out of that they created what might be their best album showing their ability to play blues, pop, psychedelic and classic Doors music. It would prove to be their last record and we go in depth while also measuring the impact of the 1991 Oliver Stone movie and Action's visit to Jim's grave.

Altså, når der ikke kunne findes plads til The Who ‘Who's Next', Sly & The Family Stones 'There's a Riot Goin' On, Carole Kings ‘Tapestry', The Rolling Stones' ‘Sticky Fingers', Nick Drakes ‘Bryter Layter', The Doors' ‘LA Woman' og Colin Blunstones ‘One Year' for nu blot at nævne nogle stykker. Hvad i den hede hule kom så gennem nåleøjet? Hollywood Ripper Michael Gargiulo is The New Bleed of Serial Killer Coming To California. Recently sentenced to death for a series of viscous knife attacks, serial killer Michael Gargiulo is part of a new bleed of killers that I predict will terrorize the Golden State in the years to come. Gargiulo will remain behind bars for his crimes against young women--the death penalty being a life sentence in CA; but others like him will soon follow in his blue medical-bootie footsteps. Next on Drowning Verdict I cut into California's experimental politics and oppressive economy that makes for a no-win situation for protecting its citizens from knife-wielding maniacs like Mike. Only one LA Woman escaped the rage of The Golden State Chiller. Did Gargiulo slash more than we know in their Hollywood bungalows? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/la-woman-maga/message

Krieger tells us about coming up with the solo to "Peace Frog" and how Lonnie Mac came out of retirement to play bass on "Roadhouse Blues". Then we pull into the present as Krieger discusses his new album, The Ritual Begins At Sundown. The LP has a blues connection to Morrison Hotel in the song "The Hitch" as well as a very strong Frank Zappa connection. Over the past few weeks, Mike has been deep diving into the discography of one of Adam's favorite bands that he fell in love with during his teen years, The Doors. With a lot to say and cover about the band, this week we decided to do a track-by-track breakdown of the band's final album with Jim Morrison - released 3 months prior to his untimely death in 1971 - 'LA Woman'. Not only do we discuss each song at length, but we talk about the experience of what it's like listening to some of these songs under the influence of mind-altering substances. It gets trippy, folks! Also on this week's episode, we've got the sales numbers of Trapt's newest album; we share our thoughts on some recently released albums from nothing, nowhere., Crown The Empire, and If I Die First; and we continue our punk revival journey with Green Day and Bad Religion. We hope that you enjoy this nostalgia filled journey this week! Thanks so much for continuing to be a part of this show! #TheDoors #LAWoman #BadReligion #CrownTheEmpire #GreenDay #IfIDieFirst #NothingNowhere #TheRobotWithPoodleHair --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theskinnywithmikeandadam/support

Have you ever wondered how to turn your obstacles into opportunities? In this episode, we talk about breaking through your barriers and owning your power. Serial entrepreneur, bestselling author, influencer, and international keynote speaker, Nikki Barua joins the show. Nikki came to America as an immigrant from India. She worked hard, learned the best strategies, and the right habits. She climbed to the top of the corporate ladder, quit her job, and started her own business. After facing numerous rejections and failures, she overcame the barriers and built up a multi-million dollar business. Her journey taught her that obstacles give us the opportunity to level-up and get stronger and bolder. How do you get the courage to make big moves? Nikki says we must have clarity about what we want and why we want it. That's what helps us take consistent action and then success becomes inevitable. Do not lose focus – it takes a lot of discipline and the right kind of mindset. Look at your failures as feedback. Keep trying new things until you figure out what works. Entrepreneurship isn’t about building a business; it’s a journey about self-awareness. You discover what you are truly made of and what’s holding you back. Ultimately, you learn how to become the best version of yourself. The three big lessons Nikki learned in her entrepreneurial journey: 1. Focus. It all comes down to focusing on the right thing. 2. Leverage. It’s hard to gain momentum without leverage. 3. Execution. It's about taking massive and consistent action. Stay tuned to hear Nikki speak about her habits for success, the most significant technology trends, and the top business skills that are growing in demand. Plus, Nikki reveals three things that have helped her succeed and what she’s looking forward to in her career. Highlights: [01:00] About Nikki Barua [03:05] How to find courage in ourselves [04:30] Leaping into entrepreneurship [07:55] What it’s like starting your own business [11:50] Habits are truly a superpower [18:30] The most significant trends in technology [22:20] Business skills that will be in demand [25:30] The top three things that helped Nikki succeed [27:10] What Nikki is most looking forward to in her career [30:20] Final advice from Nikki Quotes: “Our obstacles are the opportunity. Every time we face an obstacle, it's an opportunity for us to level up and get even stronger, even bolder, and even more of the best versions of ourselves.” – Nikki Barua “The first step to courage is clarity. Part of what's holding us back is we're not really clear about what we want and why we want it.” – Nikki Barua “I would regret never following my dream, much more than experiencing short term pain or loss.” – Nikki Barua “Habits are truly a superpower. If you look at any successful person, they are all a product of great habits.” – Nikki Barua “I'm actively choosing to make an investment of my time as opposed to expanding my time.” – Nikki Barua “Whatever you're great at today, there isn't going to be a market for that tomorrow. You have to figure out how do you get ahead of the curve and disrupt yourself instead of being disrupted.” – Nikki Barua About Nikki Barua: Nikki Barua is a serial entrepreneur, international keynote speaker and bestselling author who is passionate about making the world more inclusive and innovative. We've reached the end of our Doors odyssey — we're not doing the non-Morrison albums that followed this one, and we're also not doing American Prayer for reasons that should be obvious if you listen to any of those titles. But that's okay, because this is a tremendous high point upon which to leave. LA Woman, released in 1971, represented a sort of full circle for the band, who returned to more spontaneous studio performances after the perfectionism of the previous three albums. The songs are even bluesier than those on Morrison Hotel, and the album contains two bona fide rock and role classics. If you enjoy these and other Cosmic America podcasts, be sure to subscribe to Cosmic America on iTunes or Stitcher, and consider reviewing the podcast on either of those sites. Tune in to hear why you should be fostering your own curiosity, why you should learn to pivot like a small business, and how to turn your business’s challenges into opportunities to level up. In This Episode Why every child needs heroes The ways education can help you think differently How to nurture your own curiosity Why big organizations should think and operate like small startups What makes entrepreneurship like a video game Quotes in This Episode “I grew up with a belief that it's possible for us to do absolutely anything. And with that belief in my heroes, I learned very early on to really dream big and be bold and take courageous action.” —Nikki Barua “The gift that I got from education was in how to think. The most powerful gift or tool we can be equipped with is being able to frame great questions, because when you know how to approach a problem, the answers emerge from within you.” —Nikki Barua “As we grow, we tend to lose that curiosity because we're afraid to ask or we're afraid to simply pursue something where there's a potential of failure. And so our fears tend to get in the way of our curiosity, and when we let that fear overtake our curiosity, it limits our ability to learn and to grow and to give back. ” —Nikki Barua “As an entrepreneur, your challenges are never ending. I've learned to frame it in a way that I measure my progress as an entrepreneur based on the size of my problems. So if my problems are getting bigger, I know I must be getting better.” —Nikki Barua “One of the most important lessons of leadership is the humanity of being authentic and vulnerable and really being grateful for the opportunity to lead and to bring out the best in all of the other people.” —Nikki Barua Resources BeyondCurious Follow BeyondCurious on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn Nikki Barua Connect with Nikki on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn
