And whether you're a biological father, a father figure, or someone who's never had kids, you are called to step in, show up, and build a legacy that truly lasts. How can a centuries-old art supply company teach us about running a pet care business? This episode draws lessons from La Maison du Pastel in Paris, a 300-year-old handcrafted pastel maker, to explore what it means to build a business rooted in quality and culture. It highlights the importance of prioritizing craft over scale, using thoughtful service offerings to meet specific client needs, and collaborating with clients to create personalized care. The conversation also emphasizes the power of storytelling in marketing and preserving company culture through growth and change. You'll walk away inspired to build a business that's small, intentional, and deeply connected to its clients. Main Topics Craft over scale in pet care Designing services for specific client needs Collaborating with clients for personalized care Storytelling as a marketing tool Preserving business culture through growth Main Takeaway: Our systems and automations should support our care, not replace our presence. In an increasingly digital world, it's easy to lean on automation—but pet care is about connection. Technology should free us to be more present, not less. No app or email can replace the power of a kind word, a gentle touch, or an observant sitter who notices what a pet needs. Stay grounded in the heart of what makes your business special: genuine, hands-on care. That's what clients remember—and why they come back. Drawing on insights from his work in hospice care and financial independence advocacy, Dr. Grumet challenges the notion that physicians are profit-driven, emphasizing that purpose, not money, sustains medical practice. He cites the Harvard Adult Development Study, which shows interpersonal connections, not wealth, drive happiness, and argues that physicians persist through burnout due to a deep sense of purpose. To counter third-party exploitation by pharmaceutical companies, insurance firms, and private equity, he advocates for “shared storytelling” to close the intimacy gap between providers and patients. By sharing personal struggles publicly through blogs, podcasts, and poetry, physicians can rebuild allyship with patients, fostering a healthcare revolution to demand legislative change. Dr. Grumet's upcoming book, set for release in September 2025, explores these themes, urging providers to humanize their profession.Three Actionable Takeaways:Share Personal Stories Publicly – Use blogs, podcasts, or public speaking to share the emotional challenges of medicine, fostering empathy and trust with patients outside the exam room.Reframe Physician Motivation – When accused of being profit-driven, highlight data showing most physicians earn minimal pharmaceutical payments (less than $1,000 annually), emphasizing purpose over profit.Advocate for Systemic Change – Unite with patients to push for legislative reforms that curb third-party exploitation, such as insulin price caps, to improve healthcare access and affordability.About the Show:The Physician's Guide to Doctoring covers patient interactions, burnout, career growth, personal finance, and more. What does it take to build a business that truly lasts? In this episode of Bridging the Gap, Todd Weyandt sits down with visionary business leader John Abrams to explore legacy in construction leadership and how employee ownership is helping reshape the future of the industry. From founding one of the nation's earliest worker cooperatives to mentoring a new generation of leaders, John shares hard-earned wisdom on how to leave a purposeful and enduring mark in construction. They also discuss his latest book, From Founder to Future, which offers a roadmap for building businesses centered on values, longevity, and democratic decision-making. If you're thinking about your own leadership legacy in construction, this episode offers practical insights on culture, hiring, ownership, and succession. About Our Guest John Abrams is Co-Founder of South Mountain Company and Abrams + Angell. John is a visionary business leader, author, and pioneer in employee ownership. John co-founded South Mountain Company, an architectural building and solar firm that became one of the first worker cooperatives in the U.S. setting a gold standard for purpose driven business in construction. He now mentors others on creating lasting impact through democratic ownership. His latest book, From Founder to Future, is a roadmap for building companies with an enduring integrity. Todd Takes Culture doesn't just happen—it's built on purpose. If you want a strong, healthy company culture, it takes daily, intentional effort. It means aligning your values with your decisions and walking the walk, not just talking the talk. Culture should be something you actively shape, not something you inherit or hope works itself out. Hiring isn't a race—it's a responsibility. The best teams come from hiring slowly and with purpose. When you prioritize values, character, and long-term fit over speed or resume flash, you end up with people who strengthen—not strain—the culture you're trying to build. Trust grows when everyone gets a seat at the table. Some of the best solutions come from opening up tough questions to the whole team. When people are invited to help solve problems and shape decisions, trust deepens and ownership expands—because everyone feels like their voice actually matters.
In this episode, I had the absolute pleasure of talking with Dr. Shad Helmstetter about the powerful role self-talk plays in both personal development and parenting. We explored how the words we say to ourselves, and to our children, can shape confidence, self-esteem, and overall well-being. Dr. Helmstetter shares some fascinating insights into the neuroscience behind self-talk and how it literally programs the brain, for better or worse. Whether you're a parent or not, this will really hit home.We also talked about how we, as parents and educators, have a responsibility to help kids develop positive inner dialogue from a young age. Dr. Helmstetter offered practical ways to shift negative thought patterns and even walked through how to teach self-talk to children in everyday life. The ripple effect of these conversations can be life-changing—not just for our kids, but for future generations. This episode will speak to you as a parent, leader, or anyone who wants to create lasting impact—starting with the words we use.It was such a meaningful discussion, and I can't wait for you to hear it.Where to get self talk:https://selftalkplus.comhttps://shadhelmstetter.comBooks by Dr. Shad HelmstetterWhat To Say When You Talk to Yourself - https://a.co/d/194hJmdPredictive Parenting-What To Say When You Talk to Your Kids - https://a.co/d/6IOXgmqWho Are You Really and What Do You Want? - https://a.co/d/9wUQuMnThe Power of Neuroplasticity - https://a.co/d/j9c1qK5Negative Self Talk and How to Change it - https://a.co/d/ffLdSZYThe Self Talk Solution - https://a.co/d/cNWqxsxWatch this podcast on YouTube: https://youtu.be/AEgkGMCGaiIGet Loan Team Training for YOUR Team: https://loanteamtraining.comLet's Connect:Instagram – @itsirenedufordLinkedIn – Irene DufordFacebook – Loan Team TrainingEmail – ireneandkevin@loanteamtraining.comEpisode Highlights00:00 The Power of Self-Talk in Parenting07:00 Neuroscience of Self-Talk and Its Impact14:54 Practical Applications of Self-Talk22:03 Teaching Self-Talk to Children30:06 The Ripple Effect of Positive Self-Talk

Nicole, a global agro-ecologist, educator and systems thinker, has been working with VicNoTill to share knowledge about regenerative ag for more than a decade. In this episode, current president Michael Gooden talks to Nicole about how regenerative ag is a system, not an input and how people's awareness has exploded about the critical role healthy soils play in our lives. For Nicole, regenerative ag is an approach which enhances natural cycles, repairs ‘disturbance' events, minimises harmful inputs and focuses on building resilience, microbial life and organic matter. She loves that it's not a scripted list of what you can't do. "As a farmer-led approach, a regenerative system encourages local innovation. Transitioning broadacre crops towards low-input, increased efficiency systems offers one of the largest opportunities for farmers, land, communities and profits."VicNoTill is thrilled to host the Integrity Soils CREATE Down Under program, which is coming to Australia for the first time, on our board member Callum Lawson's regeneratively-managed farm in Victoria. Doc G shares his concepts of meaning and purpose, emphasizing the importance of personal narratives in shaping our happiness. Discover the significance of community and connection in achieving happiness, and how to address the common anxiety surrounding one's search for purpose. Ultimately, Doc G encourages listeners to engage in activities that light them up, suggesting that true fulfillment comes from enjoying the process rather than fixating on audacious goals.GUEST BIO: Doc G's interest in becoming a doctor ignited when his father, an oncologist, died unexpectedly in the prime of life. This profound and life-shaping boyhood loss compelled him to dedicate his early career to the art of medicine. He was an Assistant Professor, first at Northwestern University and then at The University of Chicago. He has been a medical director of several nursing homes, started multiple palliative care programs in extended care facilities, and is an associate medical director for a hospice provider. After shaping his personal finance plan around the FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) movement, Doc G began a new chapter by becoming semi-retired by the age of 45. Today in addition to his work as a hospice doctor, he intertwines medical insight and financial wisdom in writing and speaking engagements that explore the topics of wealth, abundance, and financial independence to help people live meaningful lives. He publishes the Earn and Invest podcast about personal finance and wellness, and has also run several small businesses including a concierge medical practice, an online art gallery, and is the author of two books, including his latest The Purpose Code, How to Unlock Meaning, Maximize Happiness, and Leave a Lasting Legacy, published in January 2025.Connect & Learn Morehttps://jordangrumet.com/https://www.earnandinvest.com/The Purpose Code – How to Unlock Meaning, Maximize Happiness, and Leave a Lasting Legacyhttps://amzn.to/4hizM6BTaking Stock – A Hospice Doctor's Advice on Financial Independence, Building Wealth, and Living a Regret-Free Lifehttps://amzn.to/4kOj2HtRESOURCESHappiness = Freedom + Meaningfulness on RVE #383https://therventrepreneur.com/rve383/Early Retirement Nowhttps://earlyretirementnow.com/The Skeptic's Guide to FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early)https://nickwolny.com/financial-independence-guide~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~THE RV ENTREPRENEURhttps://therventrepreneur.com~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Join the RVE community on Facebook!https://www.facebook.com/groups/therventrepreneurcommunityConnect with RVE on all your favorite socialshttps://therventrepreneur.com/connectGot questions or comments for our hosts? The Real Estate Guys Radio Show - Real Estate Investing Education for Effective Action
There are plenty of ‘mainstream' ways to invest in real estate … But sometimes the most rewarding—and lucrative—opportunities come from thinking outside the box! For Frank & Sherri Candelario, shared housing wasn't just an investment strategy. It was a solution they needed in their own lives. That experience opened their eyes to an incredible real estate opportunity. By applying their unique approach to single-family home investing, they have unlocked a niche that delivers tremendous cash flow while making a real impact. In this episode, they join Robert to explore the mechanics of shared housing, the growing demand behind it, and how investors can create abundant cash flow and a lasting legacy while meeting a real need in the market. And staying on theme, Liz Brody shows us around the ‘cashflow capital' in this week's market spotlight.
Dr. Randal S. Langley reminds us that legacy is not about what we do but about the lives we touch, serve, and influence. A lasting legacy is built through intentional pursuit of God's presence, discovering our purpose, aligning our plans, persevering through challenges, and valuing the people around us. When we live with this divine order—Presence, Purpose, Plans, Perseverance, and People—we don't just leave behind souvenirs or trophies, but a true legacy that impacts generations to come.
Kristina Hooper, chief global market strategist at Invesco, says she is still holding to the optimistic scenarios she had entering 2025, but she acknowledges that the potential for a recession grows by the day, given tariffs, a potential resurgence in inflation, fiscal pressures resulting in cuts to government spending and more. Still, Hooper's base case remains positive and she warns that investors can't afford to get spooked out of the market by short-term temporary declines. Jordan Grumet of the "Earn and Invest" podcast, discusses his new book, "The Purpose Code: How to Unlock Meaning, Maximize Happiness and Leave a Lasting Legacy," plus Aaron Schumm of Vestwell talks about how consumers and workers can improve their savings — and American could make a dent into its savings crisis — by using new platforms that allow money to be set aside not just into retirement plans but for college savings, emergency funds, health care and more.

When the palaeontologists of the future search for clues to understand how we lived, what might they find? To find out exactly what these are and what they could reveal about our lives, Madeleine Finlay hears from the Guardian's environment editor, Damian Carrington, and from Sarah Gabbott, a professor of palaeontology at the University of Leicester and one of the scientists behind the new book Discarded: How Technofossils Will Be Our Ultimate Legacy.
