Sharon Johnson gave a woman a red flower and a butterfly sticker at the library. She didn't know it then, but she was on her way to end her life. That small act of kindness stopped her. She went home, asked for help, and said no one had ever done something like that for her. That moment changed both of their lives—and sparked Sharon's mission to spread hope through kindness. Sharon overcame homelessness and cancer and is now a passionate advocate for others facing similar challenges. Today, Sharon handcrafts vegan soaps and uses the proceeds to support Handmade Soaps 4 Hope!  With volunteers, she travels to underserved communities, distributing soaps, flowers, food, and more to lift spirits and combat hopelessness. Join Katie and Liz on this week's episode of True Crime New England as they navigate the complicated story of the murder of Sharon Johnson and her alleged killers. 36-year-old, heavily pregnant Sharon was found brutally stabbed and strangled in a construction site in July of 1988 in Bedford, New Hampshire. Police eventually tracked down an 18-year-old who had a child with Sharon's stepdaughter, the child of her husband, Kenneth Johnson. Through some digging, police determined that Kenneth hired his grandchild's father and his friend to kill his wife. What followed was dozens of messy interviews that have extreme evidence of false confessions and coercions. Tune in to hear the details as 19-year-old Jason Carroll still sits in prison after being convicted over 34 years ago, fighting for his innocence every day.

You may know her as Opal Gardner from the long-running soap opera All My Children or as Naomi Oates Harper from Mama's Family. But did you know she also directed an astonishing 74-episodes of the classic Fran Drescher comedy, The Nanny?THE CONVERSATIONOne-day of work a month on Search For Tomorrow was enough to keep Dorothy from “serving cheeseburgers.” The pay was $400 -- and rent in NY was only $65!COMING CLEAN ABOUT SOAPS: Soap operas addressed abuse and abortion and mental illness and many other issues long before prime time TV. “I think it helped a lot of women stuck at home feeling the same things.”ON SOAP OPERA FANS: “I couldn't buy myself a beer anywhere in America the whole time I was on the soaps. I think the problem was, it was too mean. And it wasn't funny at all.” THERE'S THE DOOR: After directing three seasons of The Nanny, Dorothy says, “I never got another job directing a single moment of television. I spent many years thinking I'd done something terribly wrong. But it was because I was over 50 -- and I was a woman.”What do you do when Hollywood directing gigs go away? Sharon's story is a testament to the transformative power of embracing change and finding joy in unexpected places.   Sharon originally envisioned her retirement as a time for travel and catching up on missed TV series, but life had other plans. Through her podcast, she rekindled her love for classic 80s shows like "A Different World," gaining fresh insights into the progressive roles women played both in front and behind the camera. Sharon also shares her serendipitous entry into the television industry in the mid-90s, working for an independent production company, and how those experiences shaped her understanding of TV production and storytelling.   Whether you're intrigued by the behind-the-scenes workings of TV production or the fresh perspectives that come with retirement, Sharon's story is a celebration of staying active, engaged, and ever-curious. Jason Carroll is serving life in prison for a murder he says he didn't commit. The only evidence against him? His own taped confession. More than 30 years later, is it possible to get to the truth – and who gets to tell it?From the creators of the hit podcast Bear Brook comes A True Crime Story. In the show's second season, host Jason Moon returns with a new, even more complex story: In 1989, New Hampshire police charged three men in the murder of a pregnant woman named Sharon Johnson. But only 19-year-old Jason Carroll was convicted. Police built the case against him around his own taped confession. For more than 30 years, that story has profoundly shaped the lives of many people. A True Crime Story is about what happens when the official narrative is challenged. When alternate versions are told by lawyers – and podcasters – as part of a mounting effort to free Jason Carroll from prison and clear his name. Host Jason Moon documents how those involved grapple with the idea that the prevailing story about who killed Sharon Johnson could be a lie. And he brings a fresh examination of the evidence to a state that has never exonerated anyone for murder.

In a time where the list of pastors who are falling seems to be growing, we've been on the search for faithful pastors. Pastors who have finished well, stayed the course, maintained a deep love for Jesus and His Bride - pastors who have been faithful. Thankfully, we didn't have to look far. In this special mini-series, we circle around the topic of faithfulness with a group of leaders that have 5 to 50+ years of pastoral experience. We sat down with Darrell & Sharon Johnson, Helen Burns, Murray Coughlan, Jason Ballard and Jeremiah Niengor. This is part 2 of what we found.
