In this episode, I speak with Maksym, founder of WeFi, about his mission to create a fully decentralized alternative to traditional and neobanks. We dive into his origin story, the architecture of WeFi, how it abstracts complex DeFi systems for everyday users, and why millions of unbanked users are the real opportunity. Maksym also shares insights on banking regulations, token incentives, and why simplicity—not complexity—wins mass adoption.Key Timestamps[00:00:00] Introduction: Sam introduces the episode featuring Maksym from WeFi.[00:01:00] Origin Story: Maksym shares how he got into crypto in 2016 while building a real estate tech platform.[00:02:00] Early Challenges: Why traditional banks were the biggest blockers for blockchain adoption.[00:03:30] What Is Deobank?: The evolution from banks to neobanks to Deobank.[00:04:30] Custodial vs. Non-Custodial: How Deobank bridges both models seamlessly.[00:06:30] Regulatory Shift: Why banks are now more open to crypto partnerships.[00:08:00] UX is Everything: The challenge of educating users and abstracting DeFi complexity.[00:10:00] Who Can Use It?: Targeting the 1.4 billion unbanked people worldwide.[00:11:00] Ferrari Giveaway: Maksym explains why community-first is core to WeFi's vision.[00:13:00] Visa Integration: How WeFi offers real-world spending with stablecoins.[00:15:00] Instant Yield: Why users earn on idle stablecoins—even while spending.[00:17:00] What's Next: Launching DeFi-native credit products and scaling to 1M users.[00:18:30] Final Ask: Maksym calls for community builders, not funding.Connecthttps://wefi.co/https://www.linkedin.com/company/wefi-co/https://www.linkedin.com/in/maksym-sakharov/DisclaimerNothing mentioned in this podcast is investment advice and please do your own research.
In Season 6, Episode 1 of GTI Insights, Ben Sando interviews Maksym Skrypchenko, president of the Transatlantic Dialogue Center and an expert in Ukrainian security. In the years since Russia's 2022 full-scale invasion, Ukraine's civil defense has evolved to feature software tools, robust air raid shelters, and efficient command of volunteer fighters. As Taiwan readies itself against a possible invasion from the People's Republic of China, Ukraine's civil defense is a more critical example than ever.

Maksym is CEO and founder of Mantis Analytics, providing holistic security awareness to organizations through a social media monitoring platform. The tool combs media channels to identify risks to a customer's business and escalates alerts accordingly. I thought this would be an interesting opportunity to look at the broader security world to understand some parallels with pure cybersecurity. Maksym worked in business intelligence and product management for two decades before the Ukraine war inspired him to start something that would make a difference. In the episode we talk about the war events leading to the creation of Mantis, the pivot from a focus on solely disinformation, the problems with keyword searches with the growth of generative AI, and more. NATO and US doctrine categorize domains as air, sea, land, space, and cyber. What about the informational domain? A critical challenge lies in measuring and depicting visually the interactions among events across these domains and their mutual influence. “None of the experiences I've had in my lifetime can even for a second match daily Mass, where I'm holding God in my hands.” Join Fr. John Maksam as he shares his vocation story on this episode of Men of the Hearts. Although Fr. John felt a call to the priesthood as a child, his journey included studying law, entering the Navy, serving as a judge, and eventually becoming a priest later in life. (00:03): Fr. Craig introduces this episode's guest, Fr. John Maksym. Fr. John shares a recent experience of administering the Anointing of the Sick and witnessing a marriage on the same day. He explains that as a priest, “you are automatically engaged and accepted at every crucial point of a human being's life.” He and Fr. Craig agree that although the life of a priest has many profound moments, it is also true that “people just want to see their priest as a real person.” Fr. John describes the construction of a new chapel at St. Mary's School in Mount Clemens.(14:55): Fr. Craig invites Fr. John to share his vocation story. Fr. John explains, “I knew I was going to be a priest when I was six years old.” However, he decided in his thirties that he “just wasn't ready” to enter the seminary. Fr. John's journey included studying law, entering the Navy, and spending numerous years serving as a judge. In 2014, he entered Pope St. John XIII National Seminary. (28:03): Fr. John shares that his decision to become a priest involved choosing not to marry a wonderful woman. He notes, “I wouldn't sentence my worst enemy to have to make the decision I made ‘cause it was very difficult. But in the end, you know, when God calls, He doesn't stop.”(31:18): Fr. John and Fr. Craig discuss the priestly call to leadership and how that call is lived out through each man's individual talents and personality. Fr. Craig asks Fr. John about his experiences in the military. Fr. John shares that although he was “incredibly fulfilled” in his career, he knew he was called to become a priest and was ordained in 2018. He describes his first parish assignment and his time studying canon law.(43:27): Fr. John offers discernment advice: “If the Lord's really calling you, you're gonna know it. And never be afraid. Just never be afraid.” He also relates, “None of the experiences I've had in my lifetime can even for a second match daily Mass, where I'm holding God in my hands. Nothing matches that.” Fr. John ends the episode with a prayer.

S4E3 Before 2004, Ukraine pulsed with a vibrant cultural awakening. Following decades of Soviet suppression, Ukrainian language, music, art, and identity blossomed in a hard-won space. But this renaissance wasn't without its challenges. In this episode, we explore the diverse memories of Ukrainians navigating this crucial period: Marichka recalls the Orange Revolution through the eyes of a child, witnessing her mother's passionate activism and the birth of a national spirit. Val paints a broader picture, highlighting the Orange Revolution's significance for Ukraine's democratic future and the pushback it received from Russia. Stas reflects on a childhood marked by cultural duality, where Ukrainian culture fought for recognition against the dominance of Russian influence. Maksym shares a poignant story of bullying for speaking Ukrainian, revealing the lingering scars of colonial self-hate. Through their accounts, we witness the complexities of cultural decolonization, the resilience of Ukrainian identity, and the ever-present shadow of Russian interference. Russia is tearing itself away from modern civilization and its associated values, norms, and comforts. What demons have resurfaced from Russia's past, and what is driving a form of sado-masochistic self-destruction and flagellation, that seems to be propelling Russia backwards in a painful civilisational decline. And where will this out-of-control Troika stop – possibly at an era that pre-dates Peter the Great's efforts to punch a window onto Europe in the façade of Russia's feudal-military despotism, established by the khans of the Mongol Horde. Unlock your inner superhero and break free from limiting beliefs! If you're ready to rewrite your story and supercharge your life, this episode with Valerie Maksym is a must-listen. In this empowering episode, MommaFoxFire engages in a compelling conversation with Valerie Maksym, a life coach and author of a self-help book. Valerie shares her incredible journey of self-discovery. Her own experiences in dealing with trauma, heartache and the profound desire for healing resonate deeply with anyone who has faced adversity. Valerie's transparency and willingness to share her path to recovery provide a genuine and relatable touchpoint for listeners. One of the central themes of the discussion is the significance of authenticity. Valerie firmly believes that breaking free from limiting beliefs is deeply rooted in embracing one's true self. She emphasizes the importance of tearing down the emotional walls we build around our hearts and minds. This process can be gradual, like learning to build a fence you can eventually see through. The key, according to Valerie, is taking baby steps towards authenticity. To offer a practical strategy for pursuing goals, Valerie introduces her own formula: Focus plus Consistency equals Motivation and Momentum. She urges folks to identify their goals, narrow them down to specifics, create action plans and, most importantly, stay consistent in executing those plans. Valerie's results speak for themselves, as she has witnessed countless clients make significant progress by concentrating on the process rather than the immediate outcome. It's about sustainable change and continuing to evolve, not achieving a goal and then regressing to the previous state. The conversation delves into Valerie's family experiences, illustrating how her healing journey influenced her relationships with her children. Her openness about the challenges her children faced, including issues with drugs, jail and alcohol, is both poignant and inspiring. Through her actions, she demonstrated her personal growth, and her children were inspired to heal by watching her transform. Valerie and MommaFoxFire also discuss the common human experience of imposter syndrome. Valerie acknowledges that imposter syndrome is something many people face, doubting their abilities or feeling inadequate compared to others. She shares her personal method for overcoming this by focusing on her unique gifts and purpose and continuing to educate herself through podcasts and constant learning. From victim-blaming and thinking that Russia is the language of smarter people to advocating against arming Ukraine. In our third bonus episode, available exclusively to our Patreon family, the #UkrainianSpaces team is bringing you a cringe-fest full of embarrassing things we said and thought about Ukraine and Ukrainianness. Be patient with us. One can measure the supremacy of a colonial empire in the number of lands it conquered and pillaged. But the real triumph happens in the heads of the people it conquered and conditioned to feel inferior. Sharing the stories of our own personal decolonization journeys will help you to understand Ukraine better. And it will help us to heal. Misunderstood, ridiculed, or cast out. The relations between Ukrainians at home and the Ukrainian diaspora have often been rocky. Ukrainians often mention that the ongoing genocide did not start in 2022 but rather has been a slow-burning event since the 2014 Maidan Revolution. Everything that has happened since then is about Russia punishing Ukraine for wanting to be free. If the world did understand the revolution and heard Ukrainians 9 years ago, then maybe we wouldn't be dealing with this catastrophe today. She shares her personal journey of self-discovery and self-love, which began in her forties after going through a second divorce. You steal a land, cleanse it from the entire indigenous population, replace locals with settler colonists, rename every settlement, every street, river, and mountain — and soon the entire world is sure that Crimea is somehow 'always been russian.' After Crimea, russians deployed the same occupation formula in countless other lands. They keep using it in modern-day Ukraine, too. To decolonize the Qirim myth and explain why Ukraine won't be free until Qirim is free, we asked the help of Alim Aliev, one of the most prominent Ukrainian Qirimli, deputy director of the Ukrainian Institute, a journalist and human rights advocate. My guest on this week's podcast had a history of shoving her pain under the rug. It started when she was twelve. But over the years it got worse and worse. She became a shell of herself, and had the mindset of, “Just let me get through another day.” I know a lot of you out there feel that way about your job. It's the absolute worst on Monday, once you've had a weekend of freedom. But Tuesday you think, “Okay fine, we have to be here, let's just make it to Friday.” So you put on a good face and try to do your best. On Wednesday, you sit in meeting after meeting listening to people with half your talent get all the glory. You've known exactly what you were going to say in this meeting since yesterday. (You didn't want to be caught off guard.) But every time you try to speak, someone talks over you. Nobody is paying attention. You're fuming, but you hold it in. By Thursday your stomach hurts so bad in the morning you think about calling in. But you know that will only put more work on your desk so you suck it up and go in anyway. Put on that smile. Pretend everything is just fine. But you feel like a zombie. And by Friday you're struggling to keep a panic attack at bay. Just one more day. Let me make it through one more day. The thing is, at some point, everything you've been stuffing is going to come out. One way or another. And it will never pick the right time. So the question becomes, will you wait until you can't hold it in anymore? Until it explodes before you do something about this cycle? Or maybe you're worried that you can't do anything to fix it? Because everything you've tried hasn't worked. I want you to know that you can!! This is why I love talking to people like Valerie Maksym. It wasn't easy for her. She spent a lifetime stuffing and internalizing the pain of trauma and tragedy. But through perseverance and showing up for herself, she took back her life. She is now a competitive bodybuilder, author, and high-performance life coach. She found her true self and allows her inner superhero to shine bright for the world to see. Things scorched by enemy fire, then soaked with rain, touched with rot, smelling of death. I felt the taste of my mother tongue most acutely while driving through Borodianka, Bucha, and Irpin two months after these Ukrainian towns in the Kyiv region were liberated by the Ukrainian army from the Russians' “brotherly” embrace. Russian is my mother tongue, and liberation means ripping it out of my throat.' There's so much talk about russian-speaking Ukrainians abroad. But how often have you heard actual russian-speaking Ukrainians being part of those conversations? It is rhetorical. The language issue is at the epicenter of understanding the Ukrainian decolonization journey. And Ukrainians who are or used to speak Russian as their first language are the most critical voices to explain it. We invite back Ukrainian scholar Sasha Dovzhyk to discuss her sensational essay 'Mother Tongue: The Story of a Ukrainian Language Convert' and share truths about russian-speaking Ukrainians with the rest of the world. When a Russian missile recently struck a TV tower in Kyiv, near Babyn Yar, the site of Nazi mass murders during the Holocaust, some saw the attack as a potent symbol of the tragic occurrence of violence in Ukraine. To talk through the historical significance of the attack, Lawfare Managing Editor Tyler McBrien sat down with Maksym Rokmaniko, an architect, designer, entrepreneur, and director at the Center for Spatial Technologies in Kyiv, and Linda Kinstler, a PhD candidate in the rhetoric department at UC Berkeley. In her recent New York times essay, the Bloody Echoes of Babyn Yar, Linda wrote, "the current war in Ukraine is so oversaturated with historical meaning, it is unfolding on soil that has absorbed wave after wave of the dead, where soldiers do not always have to dig trenches in the forest because the old ones remain."Linda's writing has appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Atlantic and Jewish Currents, where she recently reported on the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial center. Linda is also the author of Come to This Court and Cry: How the Holocaust Ends, which is out in the U.S. on August 23rd, from Public Affairs.Tyler, Linda and Maksym discuss the history of Babyn Yar as a sight and symbol, the role of open source investigative techniques and forensic modeling in the documentation of war crimes, the battle over historical narratives, memorialization and memory, as well as the limits of the law in achieving justice for victims of negation and genocide.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/lawfare. In this interview conducted a few weeks before Russia's escalation of its invasion of Ukraine, Eastern European journalist and writer Maksym Eristavi explains the social and political crises that led the world to this point. Andrea and Maksym discuss corruption in Ukraine, how the Kremlin has weaponized that corruption, and how corruption in Ukraine is an enduring legacy of Russian genocidal colonialism, and how the West can help Ukraine by cleaning up its own corruption. They also discuss Ukraine's efforts to build a free and just civil society despite corruption, in particular ongoing initiatives to preserve LGBTQ rights. This interview provides vital historical context on the ongoing regional conflict.
