On this episode of the California Now Podcast, host Soterios Johnson takes listeners on a journey through Monterey County, chatting with local experts about the best places to explore, stay, and dine in this picturesque stretch of the Central Coast. First, Johnson chats with Erin Sollecito, the business development director at Monterey Touring Vehicles. Erin shares how Monterey's diverse landscapes and rich automotive history make it the perfect place for a scenic drive. She also reflects on the thrill of cruising in one of the company's classic cars along Highway 1 and 17-Mile Drive. "I just love jumping behind the wheel of that '54 Chevy Bel Air,” says Sollecito. “It couldn't be any cuter, and it sounds great, it drives great, and it turns heads for sure." Next, Johnson is joined by Ben Perlmutter, managing partner at the Big Sur River Inn. A lifelong resident of the area, Ben reflects on the inn's history and its ideal location along the river and Highway 1. "We have these beautiful redwood Adirondack chairs that we place in the river from spring through the fall. It's a beautiful place to stop, take off your shoes, dip 'em in the water, maybe grab a nice cold drink, and truly relax,” says Perlmutter. He also offers insights on must-visit spots, local dining options, and how visitors can practice responsible travel in the area. Finally, Johnson is joined by Justin Cogley, executive chef at the two-Michelin-starred Aubergine in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Cogley describes the exceptional dining experience at Aubergine and the farm-to-table philosophy that defines his cooking. “We're really lucky in this area because there's always great ingredients here,” says Cogley. He also shares his love for the incredible hiking trails in Carmel and Big Sur.
In this episode, I take you along for a scenic drive down the coast to Santa Cruz, where the ocean breeze and winding roads set the perfect tone for the day. But first, a stop in Seaside for breakfast at the Butter House—because no road trip is complete without a great meal. Fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, and a cup of coffee that actually wakes you up. Then, a detour through 17-Mile Drive in Carmel, where the views are stunning… but is it really worth $12 just to drive through? Let's talk about it.The Daily Vlogs and Podcast Merchandise https://thedailyvlogspodcast.myspreadshop.comMIC: Shure SM7BProcessor: Rodecaster Pro ll “You can only get better every time you fail"Please also follow me where you listen to your podcast. Today's episode made for a very long day. Leaving hours before sunrise and getting home at almost 2:00 a.m. I visited eight casinos today. I also played blackjack at the casino I was told to leave last week. Interestingly enough The Pit Boss came up to me and shook my hand and apologized. Playing with a one armed lady who wouldn't hit her hand. Going to a buffet that was so disgusting I just left. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mw-usa/support

sent $$$ this week to Norcal Resist.norcalresist.orgHi, I’m changing things up a little over here. Since July 2020 I’ve sent weekly cash to an entity or person doing the work or in need of funds. Connecting it to the radio show has been a way for me to budget and redistribute money regularly and to share about where I was sending it so maybe you would too. Well, I did my taxes and turns out my budgeting was off. For now I’m just going to do a monthly sustainer with Norcal Resist at a more sustainable rate until I can get back to it. I’m giving some time to mutual aid projects, but I’ll try to do more. If you’re in a position to give money to people/groups, and you haven’t yet made a plan to do it on the regular, I urge you to figure it out.Love, HoshwaDOWNLOAD RECORDINGsubscribe to the podcast here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/5432fun(intro by omar)Major Murphy “Coming Around” Lafayette EPMore Eaze “the symphony” ConveyanceT-Rextasy “Coffee?” PrehysteriaTrue Blossom “Flu Punks” HeaterFauvely “Good News” WTLD home demosOrchid Mantis “lifted” yellow houseTurtlenecked “Riding Bikes Along The Springwater Corridor” Springtime In HellEmily A. Want to hear about a bet over killing Bin Laden? Well, on a road trip from TGJ HQ to Gearhart—and after a series of hard-to-believe phone calls—TGJ Assistant Editor Casey Bannon found himself hearing all about it in the private wine cellar of the world famous Sardine Factory, just down the road from 17 Mile Drive. Across the table from him sat owner Ted Balestreri, a man for whom a statue was erected in Monterey, and Balestreri's longtime friend/ former CIA Director/ Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta. The three discuss the revitalization of Cannery Row, the people that call it home, the art of dining, and how golf—plus an expensive bottle of wine—were intertwined with a wager that took down Bin Laden.

Daniel Sternberg and Jackson Partrich are both 19 years old, live in West Bloomfield and are rising juniors at the University of Michigan. Daniel and Jackson created the 15 Mile Drive In to fill the void left by closed movie theaters during COVID-19 and a lack of drive-in movie options. Welcome to the 15-Mile Drive-in Theater! Come have a night of laughter and fun with the family while enjoying an amazing cinematic experience on our huge 55 foot screen. Our mission is to provide a safe and enjoyable way to entertain our community while, also, giving back to those in need during these unprecedented times. We have partnered with “Fleece and Thank You”, “Friendship Circle” and “JCC special education program” to give a portion of our proceeds to their charitable efforts. We feel that it is more important than ever to come together as a community and support those in need. Health and safety is our number one priority. As a result, we have provided each car with a 20ft x 20ft(400 sqft) parking space giving ample room between cars to socially distance. We will have our restrooms cleaned every 15 minutes by our employees and have a food truck to car window delivery system for our concessions. This episode honors the mom figures in our lives who inspire or encourage dreams of road travel by paying tribute to one mom in particular: our host Laura Borichevsky's mom, Jackie Hughes. Before #vanlife… before Instagram… before she could even drive: Laura's belief in her ability to do road travel was shaped by her mom's experience driving across the country when she was in her early twenties, and it stuck with her because Jackie's journey was full of purpose, bravery, and quite a bit of fun packed into a handful of days and a tiny 1975 Camaro. The Pacific Grove Concours Auto Rally is among the most popular free-to-spectator events in the celebration of all things automotive during Monterey Auto Week. The trek through portions of the picturesque Monterey Peninsula is scheduled Friday, Aug. 16. It began in 1995 with automotive legend Caroll Shelby participating to help raise money for charity. The Pacific Grove Auto Rally is celebrating its 25ht anniversary. Image courtesy of Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce. To celebrate the rally's 25th anniversary, the legendary Cobra (Shelby's creation) Cobra will be the marque for the parade of drivers and their classics, sports cars and vintage machines. David Laws, a key event organizer, is our guest on Episode #99 of The Weekly Driver Podcast. Co-hosts Bruce Aldrich and James Raia discuss with Laws the history of the event and the iconic vehicles involved through the years. He also stress the importance of the event's charity mission with the Rotary Club of Pacific Grove's projects and local youth programs. As organizers state, "Even if you don't own Cobra, join us to help celebrate our Silver Anniversary. Enjoy the show in historic downtown, followed by a coastal drive along scenic 17-Mile Drive through Pebble Beach." "On return to town, all are welcome to enjoy a barbecue dinner in Chautauqua Hall. Bring your family and friends to discover our great restaurants and fine shops." As per tradition, spectators are encouraged to witness the rally along the course. There may be a Cobra or two in the parade, but as Laws explains, participating vehicles are as varied as the automobile industry. Laws details how the rally is planned in cooperation with city officials and law enforcement jurisdictions. He recalls some of the unusual circumstances that have occurred during the rally's tenure. It's not too late to participate in the rally, observe the vehicles or help celebrate after the event in the community barbecue. Another option is to revisit the podcast as a reminder early next year and put the rally on your schedule for Monterey Auto Week 2020. We decided to re-make our original Patreon video by hitting up classic landmarks of Southern Utah in one weekend. Between Friday evening and Saturday evening we hit Goblin Valley State Park, Monument Valley National Park, Natural Bridges National Monument and Balanced Rock up in Arches National Park while getting weathered out of stops at House on Fire Ruins and Goosenecks State Park. Then a few days later we added even more miles and hit the Bonneville Salt Flats to complete the full video. It was a tremendously fast trip with amazing sights! We talk about the challenges of the trip, the failures, our sunrise at Monument Valley along with news of our Listener Survey and PhotoPills contest.
