Right, picture this. It's 2:30am. I've been bounced off half of Sydney's motorways on the way back from Albury-Wodonga, the NSW/VIC border, and I'm talking myself through a full-blown panic attack because, well, everyone else is asleep. ZzzzToday started as a quick meet and greet and hit top gear — strapping freight, riding in an Kenworth and remembering why I love the transport industry so much. I'm trying to build something that brings trucking and mental health together… and for most of the day, I felt real purpose and inspired. Then, I hit Sydney. First, the M7 shuts. No biggie, I keep on truckin'.Then, NorthConnex shuts. Just my luck. Roadworks everywhere. Detours through the back roads of the big smoke. Sleep? Not likely tonight. Now I'm picturing myself fronting up to an 8:30am meeting at the University, then a filmed interview I've been looking forward to all week, and an advisory group meeting (yep, big day) running on fumes — and the inner critic is LOUD. The anxiety is like THUNDER. Here comes the wave of dread. I just need to get back to Newcastle. Perfection or nothing.Don't stumble. You can't afford it. The stakes are too high So I go back to basics: name what I can see, breathe longer out than in, loosen the grip, label the task instead of the monster. The goal isn't to get rid of fear at 3am — it's to keep pointing northwards while it's yelling at you.By the time I get home, the panic's still there… but it's smaller. And it's not driving anymore. Thank God, neither am I. Now to sleep, I've got a big day coming up! -- Follow The Dysregulated Podcast: Instagram – @elliot.t.waters Facebook – The Dysregulated Podcast YouTube – The Dysregulated Podcast (Official Channel) Created by Elliot Waters — Inspired by lived experience. Empty cannisters of nitrous oxide or 'nangs' discarded by Auckland motorway on and off ramps is concerning one south Auckland councillor, who suspects people are huffing and driving. There's growing calls for tighter regulation around Nitrous Oxide, a colourless gas, which is used as a painkiller in medical and dental procedures and also in catering to whip cream. But when inhaled for recreational use, it can have dangerous long-term side effects like nerve damage in the brain and spinal cord. Manurewa-Papakura Ward Councillor Matt Winiata spoke to Lisa Owen.

In this explosive episode of The Blue Tick Show, Mikey sits down with Woody — a man who survived alcoholism, cocaine addiction, fractured skulls, motorway fights with police, psych wards, suicidal moments, and a lifetime of trauma that should have killed him.For 22 years, Woody has been on the road to recovery. But before that?He was smashing up bus stops at 15, drink-driving weekly, biting a police officer's ear on the motorway, waking up in psychiatric hospitals, nearly jumping off a 6th-floor balcony at the World Cup, and living a double-life built on ego, chaos, money, women, and self-destruction.This episode dives deep into:
Sam & Tom head to where it all began for the British motorway service station: Watford Gap. Not only the official north–south divide, but the birthplace of what has grown to become a staple of travel culture in Great Britain — none more so than in our world of planning stops at service stations on the road to and from the links. This is an episode we've wanted to do for some time. And while the connection with golf is extremely tenuous, it's fascinating to explore the evolution of the motorway service network — from the early days of the M1, through how service stations have changed over time, and what the future might hold.Of course, we talk about some of our favourites, but now you can rank your own as well. In this week's episode of High on Home Grown, we're covering a mix of bizarre stories, serious research, and big political signals from around the world: Macky starts with a story that's raised more than a few eyebrows, a middle-class couple caught running a highly organised grow, claiming it was all to fund their daughter's university education. A case that sparks debate about motive, punishment, and how society views these crimes. Billy brings one of the strangest grow stories we've seen in a while, after plants were discovered growing underneath the M1 motorway in Northamptonshire. A reminder that people will grow just about anywhere… even under Britain's busiest roads. Dr. Margaret shifts gears to New Zealand, where the government is looking to cut red tape in an effort to boost its domestic hemp industry. A potentially big move for farmers and manufacturers if it plays out as planned. John covers new research suggesting that legal access is linked to reduced suicide rates among older adults — a serious and important finding that adds weight to ongoing reform debates. And finally, we look at growing signals from the US as Trump prepares to reschedule cannabis to Schedule III, a move that could reshape research, medicine, and the wider industry almost overnight. Another packed episode full of strange locations, policy shifts, and research that keeps the conversation moving forward.

Objectors to a near-completed motorway plaza on the outskirts of Ennis insist they hope to have high court action relating to wastewater treatment wrapped up in a matter of months, not years. Fresh doubt has been cast on the future of Supermac's ten million euro development just off junction 12 of the M18, which is due to open at the end of October. Friends of the Irish Environment commenced action against Uisce Éireann, for its decision to grant a wastewater connection. Supermac's ten million euro motorway service station, which is located just off junction 12 of the M18 is almost finished construction and is set to provide up to 120 jobs when operational at the end of October. The project has already been the subject of a full judicial review, but now the Friends of the Irish Environment has launched High Court legal action against Uisce Éireann over its recent connection agreement. The environmental group claims the Clareabbey Plant is already operating above capacity and that it's regularly discharging raw or partially treated sewerage into the River Fergus. In September of last year, the High Court rejected similar arguments and confirmed the decisions of Clare County Council and An Bord Pleanála. The judgement noted that there was no evidence to support the suggestion that the treated water from the Plaza would adversely affect the output from the Clareabbey treatment plant. Environmental activist and one of the Directors of the Irish NGO Friends of the Irish Environment, Tony Lowes says, however, the EPA has since uncovered evidence that suggests storm water overflows and overcapacity.

PJ speaks to Ger Hyland the President Irish Road Haulage Association on wanting to ban tractors off motorways Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Clare-based former President of the Irish Road Hauliers Association claims Ireland its an outlier in Europe when it comes to allowing tractors on motorways. The IRHA is calling on the Government to ban tractors and slow-moving construction vehicles from using the motorway network. Among the issues being pointed to are the level of congestion caused by these vehicles as well as the safety risks they pose in heavy fog and on stretches of road with blind bends. Ennis haulier Eugene Drennan says no other country in Europe has such a lax approach.
Save thousands on any new car (Australia-only): https://autoexpert.com.au/contactGet a great deal on home solar (or add a quality battery to your existing setup): https://autoexpert.com.au/solarIN THIS VIDEOLast Friday morning, a truck operated by NJ Ashton Group inconveniently, and certainly unintentionally, sprayed 750 kilos of Satan's fingernails, also known as ‘flock', which is finely shredded steel fragments, all over a 30km stretch of the M1, which is the northern motorway out of Sydney. Flock has a variety of clever industro-fun uses - it goes into friction materials (like brake linings and clutches - things of that nature). It's a reinforcer for composites, and rubbers (not those rubbers, dude - your mind doesn't have to be in the fucking gutter 24/7 - nobody wants flock in those rubbers - maybe Satan - he'd want that. I'm talking about flock in general products made of rubber, and plastic. They even stick flock in anti-static flooring (for electronics factories, or pyro-type manufacturing). And (this is very sexy, to me) they use flock in powder metallurgy as a binder in sintered components. ‘Flock' is therefore miraculous. But not when you spray it all over 30km of freeway. That sucks. 300 vehicles had their tyres punctured, southbound, between Palmdale and Mount White. This main transport link to Sydney was closed for 10 hours.Nothing screams ‘no response plan' louder than that. And I would say that we in the electorate deserve more than this entirely fucked-up response. This incident, which was purely accidental and in no way malicious, highlights two serious, interconnected lapses by regulatory Muppets to whom we pay healthy six-figure salaries - mainly, it would seem, to use their arses as little more than an over-priced executive chair polishing system.Problem one: It's pretty easy, potentially, to disrupt the entire city. When you think about it. And problem two: Since there's clearly no plan to deal with even one isolated incident such as this, imagine the unfettered chaos potentially caused by a properly coordinated attack. That's pretty clear, given the ‘Keystone Cops' response painted across everyone's newsfeeds Friday night and Saturday morning.

Finance Minister Nicola Willis talks to Mike Hosking about the week's big issues after the budget announcement last week. Health New Zealand's aiming to perform more than 30-thousand elective surgeries by June 2026 by outsourcing more straightforward cases to private hospitals. Willis says getting doctors and specialists on longer term contracts will get more people the care they need sooner. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon last week announced his intention to raise the retirement age. Willis says no discussions have taken place yet, but says the Government would need to be upfront with their plans. "At some point, a future government is either going to have to slap a lot more tax on people or it's going to have to front up to whether the settings can be tweaked a little bit," she says. What size of budget do Fight or Flight's target currently, in the UK and US?Why did Fight or Flight launch in the US so early in its life cycle? The reasons for a B2B tech PR firm to launch in the US are obvious but how have Fight or Flight managed to get £3.7m revenues in about 3 years? Why has Fight or Flight succeeded where others have failed?“We made some very big senior hires (in the US) out of the gate”“We hired the right people, we went in hard, we went in senior and it's paid off.”In the early years the positioning of Fight or Flight centred around the opportunity for creativity in B2B communications. David reflects on whether that has worked, or whether the growth of the business quickly outgrew the positioning?“If you look at the points of difference in the agency world. Quite few of them are not defendable”“A little bit less than 5% of the B2B market is doing truly brave creative work. The work that takes you out of your comfort zone and builds fame.”For B2B PR firms, is one of the challenges the relative low seniority of some in-house B2B communicators?“We are seeing quite a few consumer PR folks coming into B2B.”Fight or Flight have grown quickly? Everyone wants to grow quickly but it's a difficult thing to do. Joe, David and Charlie tell us how they did it.“People often ask us, ‘Do you wish you did it earlier?' My answer is: that we did it at exactly the right time.”What were the challenges of such fast growth for a PR firm? Are Joe, David and Charlie optimistic or pessimistic about the state of UK tech at the moment?Where is Fight or Flight likely to launch next?“People tend to forget the danger of doing nothing.”As “three, white, straight founders from the home counties” how did Joe, David and Charlie approach the need for Fight or Flight to have strong DE&I credentials? The implications of AI for the media, PR firms and in-house teams are significant. Where is Fight or Flight on the opportunity: threat spectrum?
Do middle lane hoggers drive you mad?Motorway driving can be stressful at the best of times, but the phenomenon of people sitting in the middle lane instead of moving in and out of the slow lane is something that you see right across the country. So, are Irish drivers worse than others, and why is this a bad and dangerous habit?Geraldine Herbert, Motoring Editor at the Sunday Independent, joins Seán to discuss.

THIS WEEK: Home Sweet Home (2005), Dog Bite Dog (2006), and Motorway (2012)A generous patron's request brings us back to Hong Kong to look at a more contemporary side of the HK action-industrial complex via the films of Soi Cheung. Unfortunately, Jack has returned from his sabbatical, and decided he'd rather spend the week mired in the soapy melodrama of Cheung's early career. We vow to rectify this injustice very soon.Donate to Palestinian Medical Aid Support Optimism Vaccine on Patreon
