He’s collaborated with such legendary artists as George Harrison, David Bowie, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Ringo Starr, among many others, and he’s toured with the likes of Stevie Nicks, Greg Allman, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cheap Trick, and the Steve Miller Band. At 18, he co-founded one of the first supergroups, Humble Pie. By 22, he was touring incessantly and making use of the talk box which would become his signature guitar effect. In 2007, he won the Grammy Award for “Best Pop Instrumental Album” for ‘Fingerprints,’ and in 2014 he was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame. His 2019 album, ‘All Blues’, was No.1 for fifteen weeks on Billboard’s Blues Chart. He has voiced himself in “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy” and appeared on “The Colbert Report” and “Madam Secretary.” For Cameron Crowe’s film, Almost Famous, he wrote songs, served as an advisor, and played the role of Reg. In his memoir ‘Do You Feel Like I Do?: A Memoir,’ he shares stories of his diverse collaborative work and reveals both the blessing and curse of ‘Frampton Comes Alive!,’ his breakout 1976 live album that spawned three top-20 singles and sold 8 million copies the year it was released (over 17 million to date). He opens up about his experience grappling with fame at a young age and how he continues to play despite an inflammatory muscle disease. Woven throughout is the story of his favorite guitar, which he thought he’d lost in a plane crash in 1980 but reappeared in 2011, saved from the wreckage. Dalton, Ricky Skaggs, Tracy Lawrence, Brooks & Dunn, Kathy Mattea, Tracy Bryd, Conway Twitty, LeAnn Rimes, Trace Adkins, Kenny Rogers, Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift, Toby Keith, Eric Church, Keith Urban, and a host of others. The Glory Days of Country Music Sessions The music industry has gone through monumental changes over the past several decades. Bruce was fortunate to play a part in what he considers the "glory days" of Nashville's recording sessions. "I remember in the late 1980s and 90s on Monday mornings when there were 30 recording sessions with five to seven musicians at each one," Bouton said, reflecting on playing with so many of Nashville's top artists. "We had a blast and recorded some of Country Music's biggest hits." A member of the Musicians Hall of Fame, Bruce spent his early years in Nashville touring with Ricky Skaggs, who when they first met, was just beginning his solo career. "Ricky is one of the most talented instrumentalists I know and I was lucky to play with him. I've never seen anyone practice as much as he does." He still tours with major acts and recently played with Brooks in his home state of Virginia. Bruce also played with Brooks on his 2018 TV special, Garth: Live at Notre Dame! Fighting For Artist Royalties Recorded on the stage at the original and historic Puckett's Grocery in Leiper's Fork, TN, Bruce talks about fighting for and protecting the rights and royalties of professional musicians. He discusses how the deregulation of radio stations has hurt musicians and the industry and also talks about the "glory days" of Nashville's recording sessions along Music Row and 16th Avenue. Bruce also hosts the show, "The Sidemen" on Acme Radio, where he interviews the Nashville's multi-talented session players. RELATED: A conversation with singer/songwriter/actor J.T. A lifelong student of music, Bruce even takes an occasional guitar lesson from some of his session buddies. If you're a fan of Country Music and it's incredible history, you don't want to miss listening to Bruce's stories about how Nashville music is made and played.

After years of playing upright bass for cult country act BR5-49, Jay McDowell stumbled into a dream job for any music geek: Multimedia Archivist for Nashville's Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum, established in 2006. From the actual drumkit Santana's Michael Shrieve played at Woodstock to the original lathe used to cut Elvis Presley's first recording to hand-written lyrics from some of the greatest songwriters ever, the MHFM is a literal treasure trove of artifacts and memorabilia that speaks both to the brilliance of music's biggest stars as well as the ingenuity of those behind the scenes. To Jay's end, he wears many hats day-to-day, whether giving private tours to everyone from school kids to the musicians themselves who are being honored, on top of video production, archival research and assisting with the presentation of specific exhibits. On today's program, recorded at the Russell Hotel in Nashville, Jay speaks to his own history with vinyl, how historical context can morph a good song into a classic, why we continue to absorb and collect music even though it's impossible to hear everything, and he shares plenty of stories behind some of the MHFM's coolest acquisitions and inductions, involving Elvis Presley, Velma Smith, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan. PART ONE Scott and Paul reveal the winner of their latest contest. Find out who's getting an autographed copy of Steve Dorff's memoir! PART TWO - 02:39 mark Is "Stutter Rock" a thing? The guys connect some dots and dig into a surprisingly pervasive trend in music history. PART THREE - 8:05 mark Scott and Paul's origin story - including a particularly disappointing night backstage at a Guess Who reunion show PART FOUR - 12:52 mark Randy stops by Songcraft World Headquarters to talk about his new George Harrison tribute album; how The Guess Who got its name by accident; his Alex Trebek connection; how he bluffed his way into musical success; why his approach to songwriting is all about borrowing and re-purposing; the '60s band he thought was even better than The Beatles; what he spent all his money on instead of drugs; the Bachman-Turner Overdrive hit that ripped off an Antonín Dvořák classical piece only to then be ripped off by The Doobie Brothers; and why one of his biggest hits was an inside joke with his brother that was never intended to be heard by the public. ABOUT RANDY BACHMAN As the co-founder, guitarist, and primary songwriter of two legendary classic rock bands, Randy Bachman has earned over 120 gold and platinum records. After landing a handful of Top 10 singles in Canada, The Guess Who scored a string of Bachman-penned hits, beginning with “These Eyes,” a Top 10 single Randy wrote with bandmate Burton Cummings. They went on to find success with “Laughing,” “Undone,” “No Time,” and “American Woman,” which was the first single by a Canadian band to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The B-side, “No Sugar Tonight,” claimed the #1 spot soon after. Randy walked away from The Guess Who at the height of the band’s success, recording an instrumental album and forming the group that would come to be known as Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Like Paul McCartney before him and Dave Grohl after him, Randy is one of only a small handful of artists to find major success with more than one band. During his stint with BTO he wrote their biggest hits, including “Let it Ride,” “Takin’ Care of Business,” “Hey You,” and “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet,” which was an international hit that topped the charts in multiple countries. Bachman has reunited in various configurations with his Guess Who and BTO bandmates over the years, in addition to collaborating on various projects with artists ranging from fellow Canadian rock legend Neil Young to his son, Tal Bachman, who is best known for the 1999 hit “She’s So High.” Randy is a best-selling author, a member of the Musicians Hall of Fame, the host of the Vinyl Tap radio show, and a continually prolific songwriter, musician, and recording artist. His most recent album is By George – By Bachman, a tribute to the songs of George Harrison.

For the first time, legendary performer Roy Orbison's story as one of the most beloved rock legends will be revealed through family accounts and records. Roy Orbison is a rock and roll icon almost without peer. He is known to the world for hits like “Blue Bayou,” “You Got It,” and “Oh, Pretty Woman.” Despite these and countless other accolades—honored member of the Rock & Roll and Songwriters Halls of Fame, winner of multiple GRAMMY® awards, and recipient of the Musicians Hall of Fame’s inaugural Iconic Riff Award—Roy Orbison was just a boy from West Texas who was drawn to the guitar at the age of six. He lost his first wife in a motorcycle accident and also his two oldest sons in a fire. His career touched four decades and ended abruptly at perhaps its highest peak, when he passed away at the age of fifty-two on December 6, 1988. Still, the true story of Roy Orbison, the man, is essentially unknown to millions of fans around the world. Now, for the first time ever, the Orbison Estate, headed by Roy's sons, Wesley, Roy Jr., and Alex Orbison. Roy's Boys—has set out to set the record straight: “To the world, Roy Orbison was a legend, but to us he was simply dad. But even to us he was something more than just a father. Even in our small world, at home, we knew he was special.” Filled with over 300 photographs, many never-before-seen, gathered from across the globe and uncovered from deep within the Orbison Vault, The Authorized Roy Orbison (Oct. 17, 2017) shows Orbison as a young child and follows him all the way through to the peak of his stardom, and tragic end. Roy's Boys-have left no stone unturned in order to illustrate the people, places, things, and events that forged their father, the man behind those famous sunglasses.

Between 1961 and 1970 Steve Cropper was a fixture at Memphis’ legendary Stax Records and studio, where he worked as a producer, guitarist, engineer, artist, A&R man, and songwriter. During that era he penned over a dozen songs that reached the Top 10 on Billboard's R&B and Pop charts, including Otis Redding’s “Mr. Pitiful" and “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay;" Wilson Pickett’s “In the Midnight Hour,” “Don’t Fight It,” and “634-5789;” Eddie Floyd’s “Knock on Wood;” as well as “See Saw,” which was a hit for both Don Covay and Aretha Franklin. Additionally, his band Booker T. & the MG’s scored with several of Cropper’s co-written instrumental singles, such as “Green Onions,” “Hip Hug-Her,” “Soul-Limbo,” and “Time is Tight.” In the 1970s Steve joined the original incarnation of the Blues Brothers Band and appeared prominently in the film. Additionally, he produced memorable albums such as Tower of Power’s We Came to Play and Jon Cougar's Nothing Matters and What If It Did. Cropper issued a pair of solo albums in the 1980s and went on to release more recent albums in collaboration with former Rascals leader – and previous Songcraft guest – Felix Cavaliere. The multiple Grammy winner was named by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the Top 100 Guitar Players of All Time, while Mojo magazine named him the second greatest guitarist, after Jimi Hendrix. His reputation has earned him the opportunity to work with Big Star, John Lennon, Levon Helm, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, Peter Frampton, Jeff Beck, Paul Simon, Buddy Guy, Elton John, Joe Louis Walker, and many others. In the 1990s he was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
