This past two weeks, I have had the honor of speaking to Sahbunim Jamie Webster, who played himself (and the character of Great Wolf) in the mid 90s martial arts show, WMAC Masters. Sahbunim (abbreviated here as SBN) is the Korean term for master instructor at a martial arts school, and the Webster Martial Arts academies have been serving the Northern Alabama region since 1973, when SBN Jamie's father, opened the first martial arts school in the area. We had a great conversation about many topics - martial arts history, WMAC Masters, breaking, toy collecting and more, and it was long enough that for the sake of editing, I broke it into two episodes. You can find part one here.A lot of today's episode is about collecting. WMAC Masters, similar to a lot of other children's programs of the era, was created with the idea of selling toys. The company producing the show, Saban, had the toys made through its manufacturing partner, Bandai, and while you can still find the figures around today, since the show only went 2 seasons (26 episodes), there were probably more figures that would have been made had the show been around longer. I never had any as a kid, since I was a teenager when the show aired and didn't really play with action figures by that time, but I did pick up a Great Wolf figure on ebay for this interview.Jamie also sent me a number of pictures from his own extensive collections, which he describes in the episode.See them here: https://13thhr.wordpress.com/2025/05/12/the-thirteenth-hour-podcast-509-welcome-sahbunim-jamie-webster-great-wolf-from-wmac-masters-part-2/Jamie has an extensive collection of WMAC Masters memorabilia as well, and it just feels right that a star of the show would have one of the largest, if not the largest collections of show stuff ever. If you visit the links below, you can see him talking about his costume (which he still has) and more.A few related books:If you are interested in the show, to my knowledge there was never a "making of" book created when it came out, but author Kristopher Landis wrote an extensive behind the scenes book called Quest for the Dragon Star you can find here. Highly recommended! SBN Jamie has quotes featured in a number of the segments.I recently also wrote a segment for a book being published by whistlekick's books division. I wrote about watching WMAC Masters as a teenager, seeing SBN Jamie doing windmills, and how that spurred me on a years long quest to be able to do the same. The show was such an inspiring thing to have as a kid since it was positive and full or actual martial artists I read about in magazine who were more or less playing themselves and saying and doing things good martial arts instructors would do (at least in season one). Anyhow, that segment is part of a book called Modern Dads of Martial Arts, Vol 1, and is coming out 6/10/25. There actually was a mom edition (Happy Mother's Day all you moms out there) that released last year called Modern Moms of Martial Arts, Vol 1. Check them out!If you have not see WMAC Masters, you can find all the episodes uploaded to Youtube here. They were never released on DVD, to my knowledge, so these are, I believe episodes that a kind soul likely taped off the TV and then digitized and eventually uploaded. You can learn more about SBN Jamie and his schools here:-The Webster Martial Arts Academy of Decatur-The Webster Martial Arts Academy of Madison-Instagram-Tiktok-YoutubeThanks for being on the show, SBN Jamie, and thanks for listening!∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞ Signup for the mailing list for a free special edition podcast, a demo copy of The Thirteenth Hour, and access to retro 80s soundtrack!Like what you see or hear? We had a great conversation about many topics - martial arts history, WMAC Masters, breaking, toy collecting and more, and it was long enough that for the sake of editing, I broke it into two episodes. I was in high school by the time WMAC Masters aired and had been doing martial arts for just a few years. Though I was a little beyond watching cartoons on weekend mornings by then, I do remember getting up to try to watch episodes of WMAC Masters, since they were one of the few sources of martial arts I could find on network television (unless there was the Chuck Norris or Van Damme movie or the odd kung fu film playing on this random Spanish language channel that had them sometimes). SBN Jamie was a Native American character on the show called Great Wolf, who, besides being a pretty swell martial artist and acrobat, was also a breakdancer. He did windmills on the show a number of times. I talked about how seeing him on the show was one of the reasons I wanted to learn how to do the move on a previous episode, so when I stumbled across his school contact info, I had to reach out to thank him. We get to talk all about mills and other acrobatics on this episode! If you have not see WMAC Masters, you can find all the episodes uploaded to Youtube here. "Mix how you hear it!" Jeremy talked about recording Greg Allman, why no click track needed, when to use ribbon mics, thumb vs pick bass, how to mic drums, why you should get a console and tape machine, Hammond organs, and comping vocals in Logic. Get access to FREE mixing mini-course: https://MixMasterBundle.com My guest today is Jeremy Stephens, a music producer, mixer based in north Alabama, about an hour and a half south of Nashville. Jeremy has had the honor of collaborating with some of the greatest musicians on earth, from the Alabama Shakes to Jason Isbell, Gregg Allman to Chuck Leavell. “I learned the art of producing and recording from legendary rock producer Johnny Sandlin. He served as Johnny's right-hand man for many years, learning everything there is to know about making a goddamn good record.” In 2001, Jeremy started Clearwave Recording Studio as a cost effective place to craft records on his own terms. It quickly became a sonic sanctuary for indie rock, americana, and a fresh alternative to the cookie cutter Nashville thing. “This is a place where creative souls thrive, where the ideas come to life, and where being different ain't just okay – it's downright expected.” The goal here is to make hit records and win Grammys, and to do it the right way. Jeremy remains convinced that with the right approach, anything is possible. That's why he focuses on capturing the very best performances of great songs, and gives his musicians the freedom to explore and create. Thank you to Craig Alvin for the introduction! Then, Dom tells of an incident involving golfer Scottie Scheffler this morning, who was booked into jail after running through a traffic stop set up due to an accident outside the Valhalla golf course where he's playing, rolling back a clip from Al Sharpton who somehow attempts to turn this into a racial issue. College football can be a cruel sport. Saturday was proof of that. No, there weren't College Football Playoff-shaping upsets. But a pair of notable quarterbacks saw their careers likely end in brutal fashion. One feels far more unfair than the other. That's the injury to Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis. A sixth-year senior playing at home on senior night in what should have been a cupcake game against Northern Alabama, Travis suffered a gruesome injury and was carted off the field with his left leg in an air cast. It's an injury that ends his Heisman Trophy bid and puts a damper on the Seminoles' chances down the stretch. The other disappointment came in Los Angeles when the college career of Caleb Williams likely ended with a whimper. Billed as a generational QB prospect, Williams did win the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore. But his follow-up season was a string of disappointments. Yes, Williams threw for 384 yards in front of his home fans. But USC lost 38-20 to rival UCLA and fell to 7-5 overall. No grandiose sendoff. No fireworks. Williams was just a great QB on a very average team. Not everything in college football in Week 12 was quite so grim or melancholy, though. To recap the week that was, let's take a look at some winners and losers, examine the Heisman race and run through every Power Five game. One of the keys to success in multifamily investing is picking a market that's not fully discovered and still experiencing a lot of growth. Another aspect of this strategy is buying B class properties with huge rental upside without having to pay a lot in unit or exterior upgrades. Christopher Stout, Principal and leader of StoutCap, has selected Northern Alabama, NW Arkansas, and Fayetteville, NC as up and coming markets that are growing, but not yet saturated with other investors. These are fast-growing markets with high rental demand and little new supply.
Other than Class A office space in top-tier markets, the overall office building asset class remains a healthy and viable investment alternative. There are several types of office product, and most are faring well depending on the location. Stewart Heath, CEO of Harvard Grace company, is building a portfolio of properties in the Nashville to Huntsville, Alabama, corridor, including cash-flowing office buildings. This market has seen explosive growth and offers great investing opportunities.

Cal is the co-founder and CTO of an energy and governance company, Signal Power and Light, with coal mining operations in Northern Alabama and a special governmental zone, ZEDE, in Honduras, ZEDE Orquídea. Cal's work in governance and energy as a means of addressing global poverty stemmed from his early economic work connecting statistical physics to economics, which has been completed with The Quantum Foundations of Utility and Value. Cal is an accidental engineer, choosing nuclear engineering on a whim because it was hard and seemed interesting. He served 10-years in the nuclear Navy driving submarines, finishing his last tour as the Engineer Officer on the USS Florida (SSGN-728). Before leaving the Navy, Cal became interested in climate change after watching An Inconvenient Truth. Confused as to why nuclear was not featured prominently, he modeled a nuclear buildout using Small Modular Reactors to repower existing coal stations and then using the nuclear heat to drive Coal to Liquid synthetic fuels. He presented this to the American Nuclear Society in 2010, The Impact of Small Modular Reactors in a Carbon Constrained Economy, and attempted to patent the technology, but later found that there were already many similar patents from the 1970's. He even tried to pitch the idea to the coal industry in 2012, but it fell on deaf ears. Thinking that he was on to something and seeing policy as a major hurdle in preventing a nuclear buildout, he went to Georgia Tech to learn more about public policy and to see if he could find a solution, which he managed to do. His doctoral work created the conceptual design of a sodium fast reactor with thermal energy storage replacing the intermediate loop. He showed that by marrying the two technologies, we separate the kinetics of the energy demand from the reactor kinetics (reactor safety) and can confine the regulator's warrant to just the nuclear island. 7-months after defending his dissertation, TerraPower took the concept and in October 2018 began detailed engineering of what was to become Natrium. While at Georgia Tech, and in response to Fukushima, Cal suggested to the world that we use concrete pump trucks to refill the spent fuel pools instead of helicopters. Cal's current work is revitalizing and adapting the Karrick Process to the swelling coals of the Eastern United States, his company has finished the conceptual design of the pilot facility and will start construction in the near future and hopes that one day he will be able to marry this technology with a nuclear reactor. He has also extended his theoretical economic work and shown the relationship of energy and value with Bitcoin (soon to be published) and for the entire US economy (unpublished). Having developed actual technologies that increase energy access and reduce carbon intensity, he sees the entire global warming policy complex as a scam to give away tax dollars and create fake assets for traders to manipulate. Coal is not the enemy, bad policy and insufficient energy access are. https://twitter.com/cal_abel https://www.signalpowerandlight.com/en/ https://www.signalpowerandlight.com/team/cal-abel/ Cal Abel on the Decouple Media podcast: https://youtu.be/fwacuS1Dy3I ========= About Tom Nelson: https://linktr.ee/tomanelson1 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL89cj_OtPeenLkWMmdwcT8Dt0DGMb8RGR Twitter: https://twitter.com/tan123 Substack: https://tomn.substack.com/ About Tom: https://tomn.substack.com/about
