Yan St-Pierre: Security expert says Poland, Nato say missile strike wasn't deliberate Russian attack, likely Ukraine air defence

Nato member Poland and the head of the military alliance both say a missile strike in Polish farmland that killed two people on Tuesday (yesterday NZ time) did not appear to be an intentional attack, and that air defences in neighbouring Ukraine likely launched the Soviet-era projectile against a Russian bombardment that savaged the Ukrainian power grid. “Ukraine's defence was launching their missiles in various directions and it is highly probable that one of these missiles unfortunately fell on Polish territory,” said Polish President Andrzej Duda. “There is nothing, absolutely nothing, to suggest that it was an intentional attack on Poland.” Nato Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, at a meeting of the 30-nation military alliance in Brussels, echoed the preliminary Polish findings, saying: “We have no indication that this was the result of a deliberate attack.” The initial assessments of the deadly missile landing appeared to dial back the likelihood of the strike triggering another major escalation in the nearly nine-month-old Russian invasion of Ukraine. If Russia had deliberately targeted Poland, that could have risked drawing Nato into the conflict. Still, Stoltenberg and others laid overall but not specific blame on Russian President Vladimir Putin's war. “This is not Ukraine's fault. Russia bears ultimate responsibility,” Stoltenberg said. Before the Polish and Nato assessments, US President Joe Biden had said it was “unlikely” that Russia fired the missile but added: “I'm going to make sure we find out exactly what happened.” Three US officials said preliminary assessments suggested it was fired by Ukrainian forces at an incoming Russian one. That assessment and Biden's comments at the Group of 20 summit in Indonesia contradicted earlier information from a senior US intelligence official who told The Associated Press that Russian missiles crossed into Poland. Ukraine, once part of the Soviet Union, fields Soviet- and Russian-made weaponry, including air-defence missiles, and has also seized many more Russian weapons while beating back the Kremlin's invasion forces. Ukrainian air defences worked furiously against the Russian assault on Tuesday on power generation and transmission facilities, including in Ukraine's western region that borders Poland. Ukraine's military said 77 of the more than 90 missiles fired were brought down, along with 11 drones. Russia said it didn't launch the missile that landed in Poland. A Defence Ministry spokesman said no Russian strike on Tuesday was closer than 35km from the Ukraine-Poland border. The Kremlin denounced Poland's and other countries' initial response and, in rare praise for a US leader, hailed Biden's “restrained, much more professional reaction”. US President Joe Biden, left, and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak attend an emergency meeting of leaders at the G20 summit in Nusa Dua, Indonesia, after a missile landed in Poland near the Ukrainian border yesterday. Photo / AP “We have witnessed another hysterical, frenzied, Russo-phobic reaction that was not based on any real data,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. Still, Ukraine was under countrywide Russian bombardment on Tuesday by barrages of cruise missiles and exploding drones, which clouded the initial picture of what exactly happened in Poland and why. The Polish president said the projectile was “most probably” a Russian-made S-300 missile dating from the Soviet era. “It was a huge blast, the sound was terrifying,” said Ewa Byra, the primary school director in the eastern village of Przewodow, where the missile struck. She said she knew both men who were killed — one was the husband of a school employee, the other the father of a former pupil. Another resident, 24-year-old Kinga Kancir, said the men worked at a grain-drying facility, one as a guard, the other driving tractors. “It is very hard to accept,” she said. “Nothing was going on and, all of a sudden, there is a world sensation.” Ukraine said it wants immediate access to the site. Oleksiy Danilov, head of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, advocated on Twitter for a “joint examination of the incident”. In Europe, Nato members Germany and the UK laced calls for a thorough investigation with criticism of Moscow. “This wouldn't have happened without the Russian war against Ukraine, without the missiles that are now being fired at Ukrainian infrastructure intensively and on a large scale,” said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: “This is the cruel and unrelenting reality of Putin's war.” Nato Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg during a press conference at the Nato headquarters, in Brussels overnight NZ time. Ambassadors from the 30 Nato nations gathered for emergency talks after Poland said a Russian-made missile fell on its territory, killing two people, and US President Joe Biden and his allies promised support for the investigation into the incident. Photo / AP Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called it “a very significant escalation”. On the other end of the spectrum, China called for calm and restraint. Damage in Ukraine from the aerial assault was extensive and swaths of the country were without power. Zelenskyy said about 10 million people lost electricity but tweeted overnight that 8 million were subsequently reconnected, and repair crews were labouring through the night. Previous Russian strikes had already destroyed an estimated 40 per cent of the country's energy infrastructure. Ukraine said the bombardment was the largest on its power grid so far. Pope Francis said it caused him “great pain and concern”. A Washington-based think thank, the Institute for the Study of War, said Ukraine's downing of so many Russian missiles Tuesday “illustrates the improvement in Ukrainian air defences in the last month,” which are being bolstered with Western-supplied systems. Sweden said on Wednesday an air defence system with ammunition would form part of its latest and largest package of military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, worth $360 million. The US has been Ukraine's largest supporter, providing $18.6 billion in weapons and equipment. US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said flows of US weapons and assistance would continue “throughout the winter so that Ukraine can continue to consolidate gains and seize the initiative on the battlefield”. Russian attacks on Tuesday killed at least six civilians and wounded another 17, said a senior official, Kyrylo Tymoshenko. In the Kyiv region, a missile strike killed a 69-year-old woman visiting her husband's grave at a cemetery, the regional police chief said. In central Kyiv, a woman was killed in one of two residential buildings that were damaged, the mayor said. The Russian bombardment followed days of euphoria in Ukraine sparked by one of its biggest military successes — the retaking last week of the southern city of Kherson. It also affected neighboring Moldova. It reported massive power outages after the strikes in Ukraine disconnected a power line to the small nation. With its battlefield losses mounting, Russia has increasingly resorted to targeting Ukraine's power grid, seemingly hoping to turn the approach of winter into a weapon by leaving people in the cold and dark. - VASILISA STEPANENKO, APSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The first stay. My first stay was at Alindra Villas in the Jimbaran, Nusa Dua and Bukit area. My brother and I stayed in a Joglo (small traditional wooden cottage) while he visited me from Canada. This place was part of a much bigger complex but has 6 little cottages in a nice hidden area with a shared pool. A lovely place to stay and yet be close enough to nearly all the beaches in the area. The Joglo's are 30 years old, and well taken care of, no bug infestations or termites. The one thing in Bali is that nearly every place has air conditioning, but no place has insulation. The air conditioning units run and run cooling down the wooden cabin. The instant you turn off the units, humidity sets in. In a Joglo like ours, the cracks in the walls are evident and during a sunset the golden glow can light up parts of a room. Alindra villas At the time I booked this cute little cottage I was lucky enough to book for three months. Now that Bali is opening up again, they no longer take on monthly clients. This is a mistake in my opinion. Everyone in Bali jumps on the bandwagon and makes the same decisions. The hotels I can totally understand. They are chains set up to accommodate people for short stints at a time with daily cleaning etc. The big BUT… But the big but here is… there are thousands upon thousands of homestays, hostels, hotels and villas. Thousands of other places such as glamping, camping, and shared accommodations. With places like Airbnb and hundreds of Facebook groups online your villa will not be rented. This leads to people eventually lowering prices. Sure, the hot area with a decent villa has the advantage. That is not where I am planning on staying. I have been in Bali long enough to know how to get around and where I want to be. Off to Ubud While Ubud is a hotspot for tourists. I shall not be staying in the thick of it all. I will be off the beaten path in a small room with a kitchen on the outskirts of Ubud. Far enough away that I am not bothered by the main areas of traffic. My plan is to follow through with my social media on the locals and not just the “Bules” (slang for white foreigners) posting about themselves. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zsolt-zsemba/message

Part 11 Being a foreigner in Indonesia I have always found that it was as if there was a "reverse" discrimination. Because you were a foreigner many assumed that you were smarter. I had felt this many times and didn't agree with it. I think that being different did not mean being better. It only meant that our experiences and backgrounds gave us a different insight into things. My kids being mixed was noticed immediately by all Indonesians. They know and love mixed kids. Once again it is this strange feeling of being different but in a positive way. Sometimes to get into certain events they have the local price, tourist price and then back to the local price if you have a work permit. A few times I was going to be charged the tourist price until I pull out my BCA Bank-issued debit card. Ah, that meant that I worked here and so I got the local price. This type of thing was super strange. It often happened in Bali, for example at the Festival of Lights in Nusa Dua. Admission is this much but oh, you work here, thus you are now local... Sometimes at the bank, the security would guide me to the front of the line. But this sort of thing didn't sit well with me so I waited as I should because it was embarrassing. This type of behaviour is normal I assume because they want to be friendly. Many do take advantage of such respect, but I would rather blend in than stand out. I stood out enough already as a foreigner. I didn't want to make enemies. As time passed it became clear that my move to Jakarta Indonesia was a good one. I learned so much and continued learning a brand-new language, business and culture. With support from friends and family, the switch to a new life and a new job was a good one. I would encourage anyone and everyone to take opportunities and chances when they come along. Of course, there are plenty of details that need to be looked at, but the experience alone is worth it. #changeyourlife #career #careerchange #advice #ptsd #mentalhealth #blog #bloggs #goals,#work #health #life #indonesia #bali #canada #family #son #daughter #books #author #writer #published #work --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zsolt-zsemba/message

In this episode, Sean describes his experiences of surfing Nusa Dua in Bali, Indonesia. Nusa Dua is so special because if any of the other East Coast spots are waist-high, it will be significantly overhead. But, the waves get high. They're fat and thick. It's by far the heaviest wave on the island. Out of 7+ billion people on the planet, the large majority, over 90% of the world, would die - there are no channels for safety. And the failure to keep peace of mind is the difference between life and death or life and serious injury. Love what you hear? The first time I read Robert Kiyosaky book Rich Dad Poor dad, I felt as if Robert was talking about me and telling my story. How was that and how it was reflected on my entrepreneurial life?I still remember that night in Nusa Dua in Bali like yesterday, It was the last holiday I've had while I was working as an employee,It seems that the beauty of the place and the moment played a big part in pushing me to quit my job and start the entrepreneurial experience .That night was very special, as during which I tasted one of the best dishes I've ever experienced until that day. Both me and my wife couldn't decide what to eat that night, while enjoying a second to non breeze and the magic sound of the beach waves so we decided to ask the waiter to recommend something for us , as we usually do when we travel. The rest is a new, different, strange, amazing taste of a well done Mie goreng with such a mixing of texture, colours, spices, smells, I still can feel the taste nowI wanted to share that today,I'm a big fan of food, and cooking new things in general, in factmy wife always tells me that I'm the king of sandwiches, of all types, as well as Pizzas and Crepes, I've my own set of pans and other tools in the Kitchen as cooking is a moment of joy for me with each meal of dish I cook, especially when I see Ihssen or the kids enjoying each every bite or spoon.Considering the fact that I've lived in 3 continents, and being a big fan of travel, I'm having fun mixing different cuisines that I've experienced and tasted in different parts of the world and usually it works great, with new tastes.I'm really thinking of opening a restaurant, or small sandwich chain, after a few years. In fact I guess what attracted me to this entrepreneurial word, or business building, coaching, and maybe restaurants, was the fact that I'm a true living example of Robert Kiyosaki Book : Rich Dad, Poor Dad,I remember the first time I've read the book, I said, Boy, he's talking about me, as my Dad how was an Assist Agriculture Engineer, was educated, a big reader, and very strict in terms or rules and importance of education and did his best to pass the same to us, My eldest brother, my Sister and me, He amazingly succeeded with the help of my mother to manage the limited employment salary to grant us a decent life, without a feel that we're poor, and to make sure we all succeed our education and get good jobs. On the other hand, I had my uncle, my mother's brother, who was not educated at all, and had a mechanics garage. My uncle, in fact was almost the only one not educated in both my father and my mother families, but he was doing more than all my aunts and uncles doing together, living a good life, travelling whenever he wants, helping whoever in need in the family and loved by everyone, and mostly enjoying and loving his job.It happens that the big family spend the summer holidays in my uncle's big house, fully sponsored by him, and I was always watching and admiring him, in fact my first business, immediately after graduated from the university was a car repair center, I don't thing it was a random choice, I guess both consciously and unconsciously I was positively inspired by my Rich dad.I'll say that I was very lucky living between those 2 world, and my life got shaped by both of them, yes I learned the importance of entrepreneurship and freedom from my oncle, after 3 decades of my life I got the habit of books reading from my dad, and today I'm doing an average of 50 books per year, I even started writing books, so …This is my story between a Rich Dad and strict to the rules dad.Join Our Goal Getters Nation FB Group:Facebook Groups

Pemerintah mencanangkan "Work from Bali" mulai Juli 2021.

Mengapa isinya berbeda? Mengapa judulnya demikian? Apakah buku Adrian Vickers tidak cukup relevan? Welcome to the Travelman Podcast, today, I thought because I’ve just recently booked eight nights at Courtyard by Marriott Bali Seminyak Resort, for an upcoming family holiday in May, I thought what a great idea to do a podcast episode on the eight best resort and hotel pools that I’ve ever swum at. I reckon that Courtyard by Marriott will sneak in to my top eight one day.     I’ve broken these pools into three categories: 1st category: Pool Characteristics, how large or small the pool is, what’s the shape, how it does it look? 2nd category: Best Assets, meaning what’s the best thing about the pool. What makes it unique and so forth. 3rd category: Downfall, either the pool is perfect or it can work on a few things that may have made it a better experience for me. So, beginning with number eight and making our way to number one. This is the eighth best resort/hotel pool that I’ve ever swum at. There are pools that I haven’t listed here, either because I forgot about them or they weren’t that special!
