Here, we'll get a more holistic view of our nation's capital by leaving the typical circuit of museums and monuments to dive into Black stories in this historic area and on Mahogany's bookshelves. While in Anacostia, we'll also take a look at the CROWN Act mural by Candice S. Taylor, depicting four Black women with different natural hairstyles to symbolize the ongoing campaign to prevent discrimination based upon hairstyle and hair texture. And Oneika will bookend her day at Black Lives Matter Plaza near the St. Regis Washington, D.C. and the historic site of Fredrick Douglas's final home at Cedar Hill.

A busy, working artist, Dallas works on projects that range from illustration work and abstract art, to creative direction and branding, to pop-up venues and interiors. Her list of clients is enviable, and many are long standing: a testament to the relationships she's created by being thoughtful about what she calls her “yeses and no's”. On episode 96 we talk about getting started at DKNY, and her collaborations with Dior, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, Anthropologie, Estee Lauder, Coach, Chanel, Target, Sotheby's, and many others. With experience working with St Regis and Four Seasons hotels, these days, working on spaces has Dallas currently planted in Delaware, the state to which she moved for her former husband's job, and where she's launched a popular pop-up bar called Blitzen, and where she's currently working on a coffee shop. Lately, she's been focusing on her abstract art, and treasures a recent residency in Bermuda. On the podcast we talk about how she has a chance to re-do things with her second book on the horizon, her early days at and deep ties to Disney, being an accidental influencer, trying to find her next me, hotel rooms as the ultimate workspace, and how she creates a traditional palette before creating her art--which then becomes a personal touch she gifts to clients.

Travel That Matters

There are countless reasons to love travel, but for many people, the magic of a great hotel experience drives their passion. Marriott International's Senior Vice President of Luxury Brands, Chris Gabaldon, joins Bruce Wallin to talk about some of the more than 130 new Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, and other hotels that his company will be opening in the coming months and years—but also about his personal love for hotels and travel. Gabaldon points out that many historic hotels, such as the St. Regis New York, have lived through multiple wars, pandemics, and other human tragedies. Their presence today, he says, is comforting, landmarks that have stood the test of time and continue to bring guests and staff together. But for Gabaldon, the primary draw of travel is to explore something new. He does not need it to be a glamorous experience; he wants it to be different and something he hasn't seen before. In the last year, traveling for him has been about getting in the car and driving up the New England coast to discover smaller towns he's never visited before. Gabaldon believes that our newfound love of local travel isn't going away anytime soon. We are going to continue to see an increase in travel to the ‘second-tier cities.' But he also believes that bucket-list travel is starting to reemerge.  Of the many new openings in Gabaldon's portfolio of brands—which, in addition to Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis, includes the Luxury Collection, W Hotels, and more—he's particularly excited about the upcoming W properties in Rome and Nashville. The brand, he says, is going through a rebirth, and he's eager to see the new design come to life. He also cites the St. Regis Chicago, which will be the city's tallest hotel, and Ritz-Carltons in Mexico City, the Riviera Maya in Mexico, the Maldives, and Paradise Valley in Arizona. In the Luxury Collection—which he describes as incredibly localized hotels that have much more freedom with their design, culinary, and culture to truly become immersed in the destinations—he talks about new properties in Tasmania, Budapest, and Nashville.   Finally, Gabaldon discusses the launch of the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. He speaks to the challenges of launching a cruise brand during a pandemic and how there have been several unforeseen factors such as the disruption of the supply chain. Despite these hurdles, the brand is on course to launch in May of 2022 and in so doing, he says, will usher in a unique experience on the seas. Sign Up To Receive Our FFA Stories Newsletter! Email address: SHOW NOTES INTRODUCING Wyatt Todd!  I have interviewed hundreds of extremely successful FFA students on the Off-Farm Income Podcast.  Almost all of these are students who are 17, 18 or 19 years of age who have achieved incredible things in business, livestock production or farming.  And, almost all of these kids got started and developed their passion at a very young age.  Whenever I conduct these interviews I always wonder how the student has changed over time and how sophisticated and knowledgeable they were when they first began.  In today's episode I get to flip the script and speak with one of these students at the beginning of their journey.  I will be speaking with Wyatt Todd.  Wyatt is in the 8th Grade at St. Regis High School in St. Regis, Montana.  Wyatt's school is very small.  There are only 180 students total from Kindergarten to 12th Grade.  So, the FFA starts early there.  He began last year, when he was in the 7th Grade. Being in 4H and now the FFA lit a fire in Wyatt.  Just three months ago he bought his first two cow/calf pairs.  The cows are already bred back, and he is planning on having calves out of them this spring.  Wyatt's voice comes across as very young, but his level of knowledge and sophistication does not.  He obviously has a passion for what he is doing, and you can tell by speaking with him that his supervised agricultural experience is going to grow into something really significant. Four years from now, when I interview Wyatt again, it will be obvious how much he has grown.  And, we will be able to look back on this interview and see the before and after pictures of a high achieving FFA student. SUPERVISED AGRICULTURAL EXPERIENCE: Starter Herd HIGH SCHOOL: St. Regis High School, St. Regis Montana MASCOT:  Tigers FFA ADVISOR:  Tina Hill CONTACT INFORMATION FOR  Wyatt Todd: Click on the picture below to be taken to the St. Regis High School website: Wyatt's FFA Advisors' Email Address: https://www.stregisschool.org/staff#466898 St. Regis High School's Telephone Number: (406)649-2311 FFA LINKS: National FFA Organization Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAE's) Support FFA  Donate to FFA - One way that FFA students are able to start small businesses is through an FFA grant of $1,000.  In 2014, 141 FFA students received these grants.  With your donations, more students can get this head start - pay it forward. REASONS TO DONATE TO FFA: Only 2% of Americans grow and raise most of the food and livestock consumed by the other 98% as well as the rest of the world.  FFA is providing the needed education, training, and resources to Americans that will carry that torch forward and ensure that America continues to have inexpensive, quality food. Rural Communities will rely on entrepreneurship in the future for population growth and job creation.  The FFA is a major catalyst to that entrepreneurial growth. Farmers, ranchers, and those working in agriculture give the rest of America incredible amounts of freedom because the search for food is as simple as going to the grocery store: “The future of American agriculture depends on the involvement and investment in America’s youth, In order to prepare for the population of tomorrow, we need to encourage America’s youth today, and show that careers in agriculture are profitable, rewarding, and vital.”. Welcome to another episode of Action & Ambition with your host, Andrew Medal. Today’s guest is Stephane De Baets. Stephane De Baets is a Belgian investment, real estate, and hospitality entrepreneur. He is founder and president of the international asset management firm Elevated Returns, which controls the Aspen St. Regis Resort in Aspen, Colorado and other commercial properties in the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia.,NA You’re going to love this episode. Let’s get to it! Where is Stephane right now? (1:00) Stephane used the pandemic to take stock f his private life.  In his family, they decided that COVID-19 has taught them that quality of life is something to cherish and promote. They took the painful, but right decision to leave New York and move to Colorado. They bought an old estate from John Denver, Stephane always had assets in Aspen Colorado because they bought a property there 10 years ago.  Re super excited to live in the historical estate, it has original stained glass from John Denver and his fireplace.  How does Stephane cope with periods where tourism is low and so revenue is low too? (6:14) Your timeline during such events is elastic. You don’t know how long the crisis might last or if it’s going to get worse.  Always try and prepare for these moments. Make sure that you have capital, tour revolves alone, or that you have a really good relationship with your banker.  Make sure that you have some kind of cash flow.  This is to make sure that you can sustain a lack of economic activity for a prolonged time.  The moment you receive a call from your banker that says you are being put in default, it’s a really horrible feeling.  The second thing you need is a great team because you are going to ask those people to sacrifice. You need to be able to ask for a lot of compromise from your team and then reward them on the back end when the properties recover.  You also need to listen to the market. There’s a fight you can win with perseverance and practice.  Be clever over how you run your property, however, if the government says there will be no traveling to mountains, you can be the smartest man on earth and not have a solution if all of your properties are in the mountains.  You will just have to accept your fate and huddle through the crisis as much as you can.  What vision does Stephane have for his real estate company and how is he playing the field? (15:21) They are trying to not chase the pie in the sky as Stephane put it. Everyone says that there will be cheaper stocks flushed out tomorrow. But Stephane says that if you’re an owner and you can hold on to even a default position and kick the can down the road, you’re going to do it.   There’s a lot of factors, but Stephane doesn’t think just anyone is going to accelerate bankruptcy.  During the pandemic, no one knows what the next administration is going to do.  Someone could come out tomorrow and say amnesty or normal interest payment or you don’t need to pay rent until the pandemic is over.  Stephane’s approach is trying to figure out how you can create a win-win situation.  What does the owner need today? And what do they want from the owner? Stephane promotes and puts a lot of the business’ profits into consumer funded beta. Stephane believes in a healthy consumer/business relationship you should be able to tell your consumer if you help me out today because I need it I can give you a better deal on the product later on. He believes with technology you can create instruments that are perpetual, transferable and have a nice price for discovery.  Elevated Returns Elevated Returns is a digital asset management firm specializing in; capital partner replacements, equity monetization, and recapitalizations for class A properties located throughout the U.S, South East Asia, and Europe. Also, he will tell us how his hotel was affected by the worldwide COVID pandemic and all the changes that had to be implemented in a short time. #12 : Mario Cristiani - Galleria Continua - On the mission for Contemporary Art in Rome This discussion Podcast with Mario Cristiani unveils the story of how a small cultural association founded back in 1994 in a 30-meter-square ex cinema space from Tuscany has become over 30 years one of the most famous names of international contemporary art galleries listed in the exclusive 100 Power List 2019 of the British ArtReview magazine? Mario Cristiani, if you don't know him yet, is one of the three founders of the international contemporary art gallery Galleria Continua from San Gimignano in Tuscany (Italy). Galleria Continua celebrates this year its 30-year Anniversary with a major accomplishment for the democratization and transmission of contemporary Art in the world creating bridges between Italy and the rest of the world. I meet Mario Cristiani for the opening in Rome of a permanent gallery in the premises of the St Regis Hotel, the fifth gallery after Beijing in 2004, France in 2007 and Cuba in 2015. The works featured are from the Cuban Artist José Yaque who presents in the second part of our podcast his paintings and installations he prepared appositely for the exhibition of tonight at the Roman Galleria Continua. Language of the Episode : ITALIAN. If there is a key message to remember from my encounter with Mario Cristiani, it is that an Art gallery has a social mission which can be accomplished thanks to a common vision and a passion shared between all parties and the artists. For Galleria Continua, the vision could be formulated as "offering upcoming generations an even better world through Art" says Mario Cristiani. The Galleria Continua has always distinguished itself by exploring different art disciplines or discovering new international emerging talents out of the ordinary paths of the Art World. Bringing pieces of Arts in legacy, thanks to artists, in other places, just as the Ancient did in the major Art capital cities like Rome or San Gimignano. For the three founders of Galleria Continua, Mario Cristiani, Lorenzo Fiaschi and Maurizio Rigillo it all started from the friendship of three very different and complimentary characters sharing a genuine vision placing the Art at the center of the Liberty of the individuals. The success of the Art gallery and its missions (profit and non profit) was not something obvious nor planned, but rather as Mario Cristiani says with humility "the projects happened because we met people sharing the same vision". Just like the opening of the gallery at the St Regis with the Director and Art passionate Giuseppe De Martino : "we launched a series of collaborations and it ended in the opening of a gallery". The project for Rome goes beyond the opening in such a prestigious and luxury location, the aim is to educate new generations to contemporary art through new art experiences and also to extend to other places of the city. Offering crossed visions of contemporary art allowing to create our own perception. The Galleria Continua is present in all major international Art fairs like Art Basel in Hong Kong from March 20 to 25 2020, for the first time through viewing rooms, featuring the works of international renowned artists such as Leandro Erlich, Antony Gormley, Anish Kapoor, Pascale Martine Tayou. Language : Italian. The interview is always in the original language of the interviewee to hear the direct voice of people that shape the Art and Fashion industry today. If you like this podcast

Episode #68 - In the world of reality TV and in many real world kitchens, hot-tempered chefs attempt to extract the best from their subordinates through a combination of attitude and intimidation. Despite best intentions over the years, I’ve had my share of this type of leadership and I have to say its time has passed. Restaurants first and foremost are about the customer experience and the culture of hospitality should not be limited to the front of house. Enter Chef de Cuisine Rachel Wiener of the J & G Grill at the St. Regis, Deer Valley http://www.stregisdeervalley.com/jg-grill-park-city. Both the St. Regis and Jean-Georges Vongerichten are world-renowned names, but those who don’t ski may not be aware that Deer Valley, Utah attracts the pampered mega-wealthy and needless to say an uncompromising clientele with sophisticated palates. Not a simple crowd to please. The fact that Chef Rachel humbly leads by example, running her kitchen through respect and encouragement is a testament to her fresh approach of collaboration and mutual respect with the guest experience paramount. Listen as the Chef tells of her early desire to cook, family influences and path through numerous positions in varied kitchens to lead at the St. Regis. Its a refreshing story that I hope inspires other operators, chefs and restaurant people in all positions. In my opinion, this is the true definition of hospitality and the only way to run a kitchen and a restaurant. Thanks for listening.
