Regardless of what you've heard, OJ Da Juiceman is a legend! The trap music pioneer has been around for almost 15 years now and we recently sat down with him for a in-depth conversation about his career & his plans for after rap. In part 1, he discusses not thinking 10 years ago that trap music would be global and so accepted today. He explains how he has stayed relevant for over a decade now and mentions that he wants to get back to dropping more projects consistently again. He talks about how difficult it was to get “Make The Trap Say Aye” on radio and that it took 2 years of working it until it was in regular rotation on the radio. He also explains how Gucci Mane originally passed on the Zaytoven beat but jumped on it once he heard OJ's now-classic hook. He talks about Gucci Mane bringing him out at his Atlanta concert recently and says his current relationship with Gucci Mane is great and reveals that the two do have new music already recorded. He also talks about still working with Zaytoven and credits him for creating his sound. Part 2 is available to watch now too! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dirtyglovebastard/support
“As an entrepreneur in the music industry, I've learned to constantly find inspiration in all things around me, keep my ears to the streets, and support the youth”. Ambitious, courageous, and compassionate are words to describe Lalaa Shepard. She is a brand manager, media personality, DJ liaison, and owner of The Progress Report Media Group. She got her start in music and entertainment in her hometown Cincinnati, Ohio by working with local musicians and studios while in Highschool. Her mother introduced her to all genres of music from Hip Hop, gangster rap, R&B, soul, while her father introduced her to reggae music. Lalaa was heavily influenced by television shows such as BET's Rap City the Basement and 106&Park. Her ear for music was evident as she became the go to person for burning CDs full of underground records from local artists, Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane, Diamond of Crime Mob, and many other artists whose music was on LimeWire. Lalaa eventually relocated to Queens, New York to attend St John's University to study Public Relations and Journalism. During this time, Lalaa maintained a full-time job, 18 school credits, and wrote music articles for Yo! Raps. She eventually traveled back to Cincinnati to graduate college from Xavier University with a degree in Public Relations and Strategic Business Management in 2013. In the summer of 2013, Lalaa took advantage of social media by reaching out to her favorite music producers in attempt to assist them and get her feet wet in a more competitive music atmosphere. This led to Lalaa relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, and establishing a lucrative relationship with music producer Dun Deal (Dun Deal On The Track), the producer of Young Thug's “Stoner”, Migos “Hannah Montana”, Trey Songz “Cake” and many other records. Lalaa also assisted other musicians and began working with the Coalition DJs of Atlanta starting off as an intern and working her way up to become their official brand manager. Lalaa soon became recognized as the go to person for music placement, artist development, media exposure, and social media awareness. Lalaa then launched her own media company, The Progress Report Media Group (TPR Media Group) in 2015 offering Public Relations services and interviews to artists and producers that she developed relationships with over the years. Lalaa has been fortunate enough to speak with some of her favorite artists that she grew up listening to such as OJ Da Juiceman, Webbie, and Diamond of Crime Mob. The company now has 110,770 combined subscribers on social media, over 5 million views via YouTube, and has been featured on major publications such as XXL, SOHH, Dirty Glove Bastard, VLAD TV, HotSpotATL.com, Medium, DJ Akademiks, Worldstar, 96.7 The Beat ATL, Voyage ATL Magazine, Hot New Hip Hop, and Feedspot. Along the way, Lalaa has gained several mentors including DJ Scream who eventually invited her to join ‘Trapped Out Thursday's on 96.7 The Beat ATL/ iHeart Radio pre COVID-19. Lalaa also has hosted several music events and music conferences in Atlanta, LA, and North Carolina. She is committed to pushing the community forward making The Progress Report Media Group a household name. Matt is a very talented person. He has been through so much in his life, he realized that GOD is his protector. Matt was born in Anaheim, California and raised In Phoenix, Arizona. Then from Carbondale, Illinois and friendly with Chicago, Matt Perpignani, became the stage name NewEraTheKing. He has experienced 2 different world's in his lifetime. He was raised in luxury and blessed financially and with a loving family but it didn't take long for him to stray away from his families fortune to find trouble in impoverished parts of the world. At the age of 10 years old Matt was arrested for the first time and became a gang member at the age of 12 years old. Constantly in trouble, being suspended and expelled from every school after 5th grade. At 11 years old he met a boy from the south side of Chicago, Illinois at his elementary school in Carbondale, Illinois. They became like brothers. Matt decided to ran away from his childhood home to in Carbondale to Chicago with his friend at the age of 14 years old. They both had 2 main common interests basketball and rapping. When they reached the age of 15 they realized that they will not become pro ball players, and they pursue a Gangster Rap dream. Matt's friend wasn't as serious so Matt pursued his dream. At the age of 16 on Christmas day Matt's Father invested into his son's Rap dream and gifted him with a professional recording studio. New Era never had time that he made bad music. Matt was extremely talented and his very first song was considered Hot by everyone. New Era went to high school with a famous rap artist who took a liking to him and eventually jump started his music career by recording New Era. New Era was featured on a few of the famous rap artist records and the famous rap artist hosted New Era debut mixtape. New Era was on the Radio, TV, etc. New Era had major helped from the famous artist, he sky rocketed as one of the hottest talents in his area. At the age of 18 New Era had features from Roscoe Dash, OJ Da Juiceman, CG(What It Dew)/Courtlin Jabrae, And Flo Malcom. He was featured on World Star, HotNewHipHop.com, The Future Of RnB, and had multiple records with over 50,000 Downloads. New Era dropped out of High School to pursue a career in music only to find out that the road to the rapping Industry was by far one of the most difficult paths. He realized to be a Gangster Rapper will be the most difficult path in the World. New Era was very motivated year after year New Era wrote, recorded, promoted and he did every single thing he could possibly do within the power of a very poor music budget to make a name for himself. New Era is very hungry. He has been blessed with a Major recording contract 14 years ago deservingly at the beginning of his music career. He never had any help of management or anything besides his Father blessing him with his recording studio. He had no one financially supporting him towards his music career. New Era literally became known all over his region by himself. He was writing, recording, producing, engineering, filming, film editing, graphic designing, promoting, and investing everything into himself. I believe soon it will pay off for Matt AKA NewEraTheKing he is talented, undiscovered talent in America. Recorded May 25, 2017. In a recent interview with Lalaa Shepard & The Progress Report, one of trap music's creators, OJ Da Juiceman opens up about his past and details intimate stories about his life and music career from having his sister help him write music, coping with diabetes, discovering nearly every successful producer such as Lex Lugar, Sonny Digital, Metro Boomin, Zaytoven, Mike Will Made It, and several others. OJ speaks on creating a new lingo and setting standards in rap music and how things are more acceptable today than they were when he was coming up. OJ details how his innate nature of being a hustler made him a successful independent artist enabling him to release over 40 mixtape and 2 albums. OJ even shares how getting robbed out of millions of dollars changed how he moved in the music industry and how no one believed in his biggest hit to date, “Make The Trap Say Aye”. Despite taking over 2 years to break, he never stopped believing in himself. “Slow money is better than no money”. OJ even stated that he and Gucci Mane will work soon when the time is right and wants upcoming artists to learn the music business so they can keep their profits. Please like & subscribe! Thanks. Hip-hop has awoken a monster with his own signature sound called 'Enlightened Trap'. On-the-verge rapper, Da GhOul has taken up the challenge in bringing light to this new genre with his new trap anthem “Where I Be”. Da Gh0ul is a highly creative artist who has always had a knack for music since the age of 8 when he started writing raps. On “Where I Be”, Da Gh0ul uses a high powered, uptempo piano key beat mixed with a soft "X-Files" type melody to give a warning to haters, the feds, and anybody else who can't see him. The song details his drive, grind, and hustle for achieving greatness amidst the ops who may not know his acts or “whereabouts” (thus the title where I be). But he is at a greater place far from those who are not about their business and the positive growth of "Self". Slick punch lines, and a lyrical flexibility mixed with a melodic Crunk tune are just a few words to describe upcoming Dirty South rap artist Da Gh0ul. He's collaborated with idols such as Dj Smalls, DJ Fresh (Rich Homie Quan DJ), and has even opened up for " OJ Da Juiceman". Follow Da Gh0ul and his growing movement today!
So glad to be returning for another episode of ASK VIV. On this show, we delve a little deeper into way and means of self-confrontation. In the inaugural episode of BrownTown's first ever podcast, we begins with the opening song to the pilot episode of Atlanta, Donald Glover's (AKA Childish Gambino) new series on FX. BrownTown delivers a critical analysis on the comedy-drama that succeeds in exploring everything from mass incarceration, mental health, Black identity, to the sexual landscape all within the first two episodes without really even trying. The nuanced, character-driven nearly all-Black show, which premiered in fall 2016 sets the tone for the explosion of breakout Black films Moonlight and Get Out that followed in 2017. The recent Star Wars films are also a topic of discussion as their diverse cast among ethnic and gender lines has made actual white supremacists upset (...tear). With Moonlight, BrownTown briefly touches on the complexities of toxic masculinity amongst men of color (noting, of course, The Boondocks). Furthermore, we take our sights to critique the credit given by the white mainstream from instances like the Oscars Best Picture fiasco to a VOX video on late night comedian's satirical coverage of the Trump Administration, which somehow ignores Trevor Noah, Black South African host of the 21-year running Daily Show on Comedy Central. Four months into 2017, we continue to see the media landscape as an ever-evolving social ecology of paradoxical relationship between the problematic systems of the past and the progressive ideals of the future. -- CREDITS: Intro/outro music - "No Hook" by OJ Da Juiceman from FX's Atlanta Season 1.
