Reel Britannia - a very British podcast about very British movies...with just a hint of professionalism Fancy a twisted trip to France? Our American painter, Jeff, certainly gets more than he bargained for when he dallies with the alluring Eve. She cooks up a rather madcap scheme to spring her hubby, Georges, from the local asylum using a handy oxyacetylene torch. But hold onto your berets! This seemingly straightforward caper spirals into a fiery game of murder, mistaken identities, and shocking revelations. Turns out, some folks are just a tad maniacal, and poor Jeff's in a very sticky situation! Paranoiac (1963) Right then, pack your bags for the sun-drenched, yet surprisingly sinister, Camargue region of France! Our protagonist, the somewhat hapless American painter Jeff Farrell, arrives looking for inspiration but quickly finds himself ensnared in a rather sticky wicket. He catches the eye of the mature and manipulative Eve Beynat, who runs a local bar with her lovely stepdaughter, Annette. Eve spins a yarn about her husband, Georges, unjustly locked away in a nearby asylum for a crime he didn't commit – supposedly for using an oxyacetylene torch on his daughter's attacker. Before you can say "amour fou," Jeff is persuaded to help bust Georges out. The plan? Use that infamous torch to cut through the bars, or, if Georges has already shuffled off this mortal coil, to discreetly dispose of his remains. Naturally, things go wildly off-piste. The breakout seems to succeed, but soon a body turns up, and the ever-suspicious Inspector Etienne starts sniffing around. Jeff, bless his naive heart, finds himself sinking deeper into a quagmire of deceit, where identities blur and everyone seems to have a hidden agenda. Was Georges truly wronged? Is Eve the damsel in distress she claims? And what's Annette's real role in this increasingly dangerous charade? Prepare for twists, turns, and a climax that proves some folks are just plain maniacal! In this episode of General Witchfinders, we take a close look at The Creeping Flesh (1973), a British horror film from cult studio Tigon British Film Productions. Best known for low-budget horror that ran alongside the likes of Hammer Horror and Amicus, Tigon was founded in 1966 by Tony Tenser and operated out of Hammer House on Wardour Street in London. This marks our first dive into their back catalogue—and what a place to start. The Creeping Flesh stars Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee (#BigChrisLee) as brothers on opposing ends of a bizarre scientific discovery involving an ancient skeleton, reanimation, and some very shaky ideas about inherited evil. Lorna Heilbron plays opposite them as the increasingly disturbed Penelope. The film was directed by Freddie Francis, a key figure in British horror cinema. Francis replaced Don Sharp at the last minute and brought his usual visual flair, having previously directed Paranoiac, The Evil of Frankenstein, Dracula Has Risen from the Grave, and Tales from the Crypt. He's also better known in wider circles for his cinematography—earning two Academy Awards and five BAFTAs for work on Sons and Lovers, The Elephant Man, The Innocents, Return to Oz, and Glory. He also worked on Dune, Cape Fear, and even music videos for All Saints and Jimmy Nail. Cinematographer Norman Warwick handled the visuals on The Creeping Flesh. Warwick was also behind the camera for The Abominable Dr. Phibes (see Episode 10), Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde, and Confessions of a Window Cleaner. The film was shot at Shepperton Studios and Thorpe House in Surrey. We believe The Creeping Flesh was the 20th film pairing Cushing and Lee, likely falling between Horror Express (Episode 7) and Nothing but the Night (Episode 42). We're happy to be corrected—find us on BlueSky @generalwitch.Subscribe, listen, and join us as we explore the world of British cult horror, Tigon films, and everything in between. Reel Britannia - a very British podcast about very British movies...with just a hint of professionalism This week...more from the great Hammer studios as they craft a chilling tale of deceit and madness. A presumed-dead heir resurfaces, unraveling sinister family secrets. Gothic suspense intertwines with psychological twists, as greed, guilt, and identity collide in a haunting inheritance drama. Starring Oliver Reed and Janette Scott.   Paranoiac (1963) Where secrets fester and madness reigns—welcome to the Ashby estate, where paranoia is just the beginning Paranoiac (1963), directed by Freddie Francis and produced by Hammer Films, is a gripping psychological thriller that delves into themes of identity, deception, and madness. Loosely based on Josephine Tey's novel Brat Farrar, the film is set against the backdrop of a wealthy but dysfunctional British family, the Ashbys, whose lives are marred by tragedy and secrets. The story begins with the Ashby siblings, Simon and Eleanor, living under the care of their strict Aunt Harriet after the death of their parents in a plane crash. Simon, a cruel and manipulative alcoholic, is weeks away from inheriting the family fortune. Eleanor, fragile and haunted by the past, struggles with her mental health, particularly after the apparent suicide of their elder brother, Tony, years earlier. The plot takes a dramatic turn when a man claiming to be Tony reappears, throwing the family into turmoil. While Eleanor is overjoyed and convinced of his identity, Simon and Aunt Harriet are skeptical, suspecting him to be an impostor. As tensions rise, the film unravels a web of deceit, revealing that "Tony" is indeed a conman hired by the family solicitor's son to cover up financial embezzlement. The narrative is further complicated by Simon's descent into madness, driven by guilt and greed. The eerie atmosphere is heightened by haunting organ music and a masked figure, adding layers of gothic suspense. The climax reveals shocking truths about the family's dark past, including Simon's role in Tony's death and Aunt Harriet's attempts to maintain a facade of normalcy. Oliver Reed delivers a standout performance as the volatile Simon, capturing the character's menace and vulnerability. The film's cinematography, with its shadowy visuals and dramatic angles, enhances the sense of unease, while Elisabeth Lutyens' haunting score underscores the psychological tension. Paranoiac is a masterful blend of gothic horror and psychological drama, showcasing Hammer Films' ability to craft compelling narratives that linger in the mind long after the credits roll. Documenteers: The Documentary Podcast

It's Wednesday during October so that means it's HAMMER HORROR HUMPDAY and we're on the last of our three Oliver Reed starring films and we saved one of his most scene chewing performances for today. This is also the show's first discussion of a film starring the classic British Scream Queen Janette Scott. A family is in shambles. The mother and father are dead. A brother, Tony, gone from taking his own life. The surviving brother, Simon, is a psychotic alcoholic and the surviving sister thinks she might be losing her mind because she sees her dead brother around the estate. One day she decided to end it all the same way her brother did and throws herself off a cliff only to be rescued and returned home, in front of the whole family, by their supposedly late brother. Mystery, thrills, psychological chills and a very affecting jumpscare in this Freddie Francis flick from 1963 called “PARANOIAC” starring Janette Scott, Oliver Reed, Sheila Burrell & Alexander Davion. Sometimes we get way too close with our brothers and aunts and it's kind of weird but also disturbingly normal for those British Blue Bloods. We open with a discussion on the death squad as a general concept and in its specific applications in Uruguay.  Then, we discuss exactly why the Tupamaros were so effective and, despite that, why they were brought down so quickly. As it turns out, they were brought down due to the same factors that made them so effective: espionage and infiltration. We discuss both Cuban, Uruguayan, and CIA intelligence. I introduce Manuel Hevia Cosculluela, the double (or triple) agent embedded within this story.  Then I tell the story of the Mormon Tupamaro within the story of the incredible jailbreak from the Punta Carreras prison of 1971. After, we discuss the infiltration against the Tupamaros by fascist drug and weapons smugglers. We talk about the JCR, the Junta Coordinadora Revolutionaria, and place the Tupamaros within the continental revolutionary context. Finally, we cover the downright cocaine cowboy shenanigans of Mitrione's son. We begin by reviewing the plot of the film and the real-life events.  From there, we quickly descend into darkness as we discuss the life of Dan Mitrione (beyond all the Jim Jones stuff). This leads us to ask why the field of parapolitics research into MKULTRA has been so incredibly unfruitful since the 1970s and why Operation Midnight Climax has been so thoroughly shitcoated. We're talking deviancy and sexual blackmail operations. We ask what type of "sexual technologies" they developed and what Inquisition techniques have to do with MKULTRA.  We raise the spectre of the true nature of personality tests and their horrific usages including aforementioned deviancy blackmail ops and death squads. Finally, we discuss the question of torture. Don't worry; future episodes are not as bleak. artwork by @DEEP_RED_BELLS Songs: Hasta Siempre, Comandante by the Buena Vista Social Club Los Olvidados by Los Muertos de Cristo A Mi Manera by Gipsy Kings American Made Death Squad by Behind Enemy Lines

Buia.Paranormale. SitografiaControl WikipediaControl Wikipedia IngleseBrutalismo WikipediaRemedy Entertainment WikipediaSam Lake WikipediaMartin Stig Andersen WikipediaMartti Suosalo Wikipedia io cantante del Tango finalePetri Alanko Official SitePetri Alanko IMDBMartin Stig Andersen Official SiteControl WikiOld Gods of AsgardControl – making you feel lost in an endless placeControl's Composer Wants You To Know One Thing About Making Game SoundtracksWhy Control's composer burned a piano to make the game's haunting musicControl Is a Paranoiac's Dream Turned Into a VideogameControl & Limbo composer Martin Stig Andersen finds beauty inside the darknessSo you want to be a... videogames composer: Alan Wake and Control soundtrack creator Petri Alanko - "I sometimes think film composers have it really, really, really easy"Control is a fascinating work of video game storytelling that levitates above its limitationWhy Control is my game of the yearControl Full Story Summary and RecapQuesto episodio non è a fini di lucroI diritti dei brani musicali di questo brano non appartengono al sottoscritto.Ogni episodio di LATO A è una lettera d'amore all'industria videoludica, ai suoi produttori, direttori, sviluppatori, ma sopratutto ai suoi compositori. Today's the first of four horror (or quasi-horror) films for CrackpotoberFest 2022 - Girl, Interrupted, both the memoir and the film. I discuss Susanna Kaysen and her father, a very interesting figure. I talk about McLean Hospital, Jim Watson, spies at McLean, and Kaysen's later career. Then, I go over some interesting themes that Girl, Interrupted the film injects into the narrative - some potentially spurious, some maybe not. To wrap up, I discuss the history of MKULTRA projects at McLean and the general area. CrackpotoberFest only gets weirder from here. Note: I make two mistakes in this episode. I think I conflate bipolar disorder and BPD which is not the fault of the film or memoir, and I also say that one of the characters kills herself to Downtown when it's a different song. My bad. Three Hammer films today! We're thrilled over Oliver Reed going all out in "Paranoiac" (that scene on the stairs!) and eventually ponder what if it had been the tale of two Reeds. "Scream of Fear" was also named "Taste of Fear" and we wonder about the ability to taste terror while method acting with Susan Strasberg. Those two films were so good that by the time Hammer got to "Nightmare" it was tired. Aaron and I separately, bizarrely, came to the conclusion they wanted Sandra Dee for that one, in which case it would have been amazing, but that wasn't happening so they lost the lead actress part way through. Oh, where was Sandra Dee?! Pretending Sandra Dee was in it makes it better.

Hello! And welcome to the 24th episode of Hammer House of Podcast, where Paul Cornell (Doctor Who, Elementary) and L.M. Myles (Verity!) discuss, in order of UK release, every horror movie made by Hammer Film Productions between 1955 and 1976, from The Quatermass Xperiment to To the Devil… A Daughter. In 1964's Paranoiac, Oliver Reed returns for Jimmy Sangster's final shot at a moody suspense thriller. It has a lot to say about the advantages of being an aunt's favourite nephew. Not least of all the fact that she'll make a really scary mask and pretend to be your dead brother. But she's helping (no, really, she's actually trying to help.) And if the plot doesn't al quite hang together, Oliver Reed does a marvellous job of distracting you from it with his acting skills.

Christopher Cross and Dylan Schwan celebrate Halloween (the best holiday) by talking about four different horror films. They each picked two films the other hadn't seen and discussed them for various reasons. Chris chose Happy Death Day and Paranoiac for Dylan to watch and Dylan chose Blood Feast and Possession for Chris to watch. One of them was significantly more generous in their choices than the other. They discuss whether or not Happy Death Day is anything more than the Groundhog Day teen slasher film it seems to be. They also go into what merits Blood Feast still has almost 60 years out from its release. Paranoiac is discussed in terms of its strength in the midst of the sea of Hammer horror films it's a part of. Last but not least, they talk about the transgressive Possession. Next week, Chris and Dylan will give their opinions on the new Suspiria directed by Luca Guadagnino. Since they've both seen the original as well, there will be comparisons and contrasts made between the two films. You can find Film Fallout every week on iTunes, Soundcloud, Facebook, and Instagram, as well as anything else that pulls an RSS Feed. The podcast (@filmfalloutcast), Chris (@HammerkopCross), and Dylan (@DreaminDylanS) are also on Twitter. You can also find Chris' film writing at goombastomp.com. Christopher Cross and Dylan Schwan take a trip to Haddonfield, Illinois for another round with The Shape by talking about the true sequel to Halloween...that's also called Halloween. Can David Gordon Green's sequel live up to the hype of John Carpenter's endorsement and involvement? How do the themes match up to the original's spare template? Is it too funny? We ended up talking about some important bits of media including Mike Flanagan's astonishing Netflix miniseries, The Haunting of Hill House. Dylan talks about the overall feeling of the series and how it may be Flanagan's best work since Oculus. Dylan also watched...Shane Dawson's new YouTube documentary series, The Mind of Jake Paul (is that correct? Can someone make sure we got the correct information?) He talks about whether it can match up to a general documentary as well as any and every ethical boundary it may have crossed. Chris got out there to inform us on two Netflix original films, The Night Comes For Us and Illang: The Wolf Brigade. Can there be a world where a movie directed by Timo Tjahjanto can be better than a film directed by Kim Jee-woon? Quite possibly. Next week, Chris and Dylan decided to inform the other with some horror films they haven't seen. Chris chose Paranoiac and Happy Death Day for Dylan to see and Dylan chose Blood Feast and Possession for Chris to watch. Look out for our Halloween special! Paranoiac, a game that's hard to say, but not hard to play. This free download comes to us by way of indie developers Uri & Vgperson and follows the story of Miki Takamura as she stays in her aunt's masion for some well deserved R&R. But unfortunately for Miki, everything is not as it seems in this old house. Find out how this 16-bit indie game stacks up as we unlock all the doors to bring you a new Horror Play Podcast. Also, we delve into the intricacies of a Purge Day, a totally unrelated topic, but important nonetheless.

3:30 to 6:30pm. "Captain Cosmos" (Garry) who is station announcer at Paddington station phones in from work for a chat with Bob and makes a live announcement about Thameside Radio to the whole station. Andrew calls from St Ursula Road in Southall where they are having a street party while listening to Thameside. He asks for "Win a Night Out With a Well Known Paranoiac" which is still one of my favourite songs. Ever. (Yes I do have a copy and, before you ask, the answer is "yes you can" - just leave a comment or drop me an email). The surprise after the fast food survey was a listeners trip to Hyde Park to see the fireworks. There's a clip in Alex's show. Name checks include: Ian Hobbs, Andrew Beck, Anne Sergeant, Max Hamster and Paul Gander.
