Born in New Haven, CT, Heidi Lender began her career reporting on the fashion universe for national magazines, writing features and styling photo shoots throughout her twenties. With a BA in apparel and textiles from Cornell University, she covered style and travel from New York to Paris, where she served as Fashion Director and Associate Bureau Chief of Women's Wear Daily and W Magazine. After Paris she went to India, where she lived part-time while studying yoga for the next eight years. In 2007, she opened and taught at a yoga studio in San Francisco, and two years later she discovered her creative self in photography. Self-taught, she began by creating self-portraits and realised a meaningful way to make sense of the world and her place in it. Her images are often based in self-inquiry that stem from personal experiences, relationships and/or investigate identity. She is represented by galleries in the U.S. and Uruguay and has exhibited internationally. Heidi is a founding member of the online collective Six Shooters, has twice been a Critical Mass finalist, received recognition from the likes of the Pollux Awards and the Julia Margaret Cameron Award. Her work has been featured in PDN and Rangefinder magazines and in online photo blogs including CNN, NPR and the New Yorker's Photo Booth. Editorial credits include WSJ Magazine, Disegno Journal and Grey Magazine. In 2014, Kehrer Verlag published the photography book “Grassland” under Lender's pseudonym, H. Lee. She currently resides on an 80-acre ranch in Pueblo Garzón, Uruguay, where she has founded CAMPO, a nonprofit creative institute supporting international artists (www.campogarzon.org).In this episode and her discussion with Anne, Heidi recounts her impulsive decision to leave her burgeoning career as a fashion director in Paris at the young age of 26. A pivotal moment in Heidi's personal story, she tells Anne, is her discovery of Garzón, Uruguay. During an impromptu trip to South America, she stumbled upon her dream home in the quaint village, which became the birthplace of CAMPO. Heidi describes to Anne how her passion for photography flourishes in this picturesque setting, where the art of self-portraiture becomes a therapeutic outlet and a means of self-expression. The episode highlights how photography, combined with mindfulness practices, has been a crucial part of Heidi's healing journey.Heidi then goes deeper into the founding and growth of CAMPO, which has evolved into a sanctuary for artists, chefs and writers from around the world. Heidi articulates her vision of creating transformative experiences for both residents and attendees, fostering a sense of community through artistic collaboration. The festival, now a three-day event with a month-long residency program, is using the theme "unsettled" this year. The theme explores migration and movement, thus reflecting Heidi's own journey of continuous reinvention.***Are you curious about Anne's Coaching & Consulting:Feeling lost or burnt out? Max McGuirk is a Commercial Real Estate Broker at Triple M Real Estate, a company focused on acquiring and managing a diverse portfolio of properties, including long-term rentals, lease-to-own contracts, and property flips. In addition to his real estate ventures, Max runs a DJ and Photo Booth company in Tulsa. A former high school teacher, he began investing in real estate at the age of 21. Max also spent time wrestling for WWE in their developmental territory before transitioning into real estate full-time.  In this episode… With fluctuating interest rates, market uncertainties, and unexpected property challenges, how can investors position themselves to succeed? What strategies can help balance risk with long-term gains? According to Max McGuirk, a seasoned real estate investor, the key lies in taking calculated risks and focusing on properties with built-in equity. He highlights that buying affordable properties safeguards against market downturns, minimizing potential losses. Investors can maximize returns and ensure long-term stability by prioritizing deals with strong cash flow potential and being selective about buyers in owner-financing agreements. Max also emphasizes the importance of market expertise, advising investors to always be aware of local trends and to build relationships that lead to repeat business opportunities. In this episode of The Same Day Podcast, host Mat Zalk sits down with Max McGuirk, Commercial Real Estate Broker at Triple M Real Estate, to discuss calculated risks and smart investments. They cover how to find deals in challenging markets, the benefits of owner financing, and why understanding local market trends is essential. Stop selling ice to Eskimos! Give sponsors what they really need! Let me show you how to increase event profits by turning your experiential event photography from an expense to be paid into an asset to be sold! If your EEP (that tired Photo Booth in the back) isn't a vibrant, vital front-line asset that showcases your guests, highlights your sponsors, and expands your social reach while generating additional income for your non-profit, you are doing it WRONG! Let me expand your ideas concerning EEP's and how to identify best practices for your events. Randy Long is the owner of The Pix Squad, a professional event photography company specializing in corporate gatherings, golf outings, and charity galas. The Pix Squad's Mobile Pix Cart has turned golf photography upside down and is welcomed by PGA, LPGA, and PGA Canada tournaments as well as hundreds of local tournaments. The Mobile Pix Cart led The Pix Squad to work with 24 pro sports figures such as Von Miller, Ron Jaworski, Patrick Williams and Darren Waller, further bolstering their fundraising galas and events coast to coast, creating a measurable increase in philanthropic donations through the heightened level of entertainment they provide. With a degree in theatre and extensive event management experience, Randy and his Squad leveraged that experience to produce jaw-dropping photo experiences to increase sponsorship income and extend social reach. Randy was first a small-town newspaper reporter/photographer who translated his experience into opportunity when he took a side gig as a mall Santa to pay for his family's holiday spending. Frustrated with the experience, Randy created Santa Magic (shopping center Santa/Easter Photo) and later The Pix Squad. Huge corporate clients like Microsoft, United Way, Bell Bank, and Great Clips, have also used The Pix Squad to increase brand awareness, corporate goodwill, or employee engagement at their events. One of Randy's proudest accomplishments as a business owner is his Squad Members who often get job offers from Pix Squad clients due to their enthusiasm and work ethic. We're excited to introduce you to Jesse Green, Founder and Creative Director at Handcar - a creative agency based in Detroit, MI. In this episode, Jesse chats through some of the creative projects he and his team have been a part of, the importance of excellent design and how it inspires creative content, and the impact of storytelling in a brand's marketing strategy. About Jesse Green, in his own words: [I'm] a longstanding creative entrepreneur and lover of brands + human connection. I quit my last job at age 16 and never looked back. 13 years were spent as a wedding + commercial photographer (with some Airbnb design + management, a Photo Booth company built and acquired somewhere in there, and the launch of my wife's interior design business somewhere in there too). Plenty of editorial features, loads of travel, hundreds of thousands of images later; it lead me to now. In 2019, on a whim of a client opportunity that was bigger than I could be alone; Handcar was born (though it didn't have a name for another 8 months) in an old car wash-turned-studio on the east side of Detroit. Since inception, we've continually pushed the limits of what we should do versus what we could do. Diving in head first rather than dipping our toes in the water; we've created a space for innovative ideas to flourish, experimentation, strategic thinking, and the magic that is team-wide collaboration. We've had the pleasure of partnering with brands like Chaco Footwear, Smartwool, Madcap Coffee, Valentino, Chewy.com, Cat Footwear, Wolverine Boots, Pet Supplies Plus, and more. As Founder + Creative Director, I work daily to be a connection point between our amazing clients, our stellar creative team, and the hard-hitting strategy that our brand/account team dreams up together. Outside the studio, I'm just your run-of-the-mill proud husband and father of three. Travel, Northern Michigan, old cars, and building in the best city in the world (Detroit); it's all I need. In this Tub Talks, I get to soak in the unique wisdom of Chantel Jeffries. Chantel is known in the world for seemingly disparate things: being a DJ, investor, entrepreneur, and social media creator. She is simultaneously a mystery. However, this bathtub conversation is a treasure chest of knowledge that I've never heard her share before.  As we learn more about Chantel, we learn more about how interconnected all of these industries actually are. She articulates her multidisciplinary work approach as perceiving every ‘job' as a fractal, in which all things are related to everything else. They all reflect each other.Chantel started out making videos, and then became one of the first people to get partnerships with companies like Revolve, Samsung, Uber, and Loreal as a brand ambassador. In experiencing how deals like these were done, Chantel realized there was more opportunity to be had. Investing in companies and then supporting them made sense, because she believed in the product, and her value add was multifaceted: capital, network, audience… Chantel compares work life to playing games like Zelda or King of Hearts as a teenager, in which the player would go on a quest and have to collect the jewels or find the tools to get to the goal. The journey is the game. And the journey is meant to be enjoyed. Chantel enjoys her life quest. In this episode, she shows us about her unorthodox approach to success and how our success can be limitless too. Chantel grew up in a military family, in which she learned the value of discipline and hard work. With these values instilled in her, Chantel shows us how taking risks aren't really risks because if you put hard work into anything, something will give.Chantel worked hard even as a young person, creating jobs for herself from the beginning. At 14, on the day she could get a job, she walked down the street and started at Arbys. Before that, Chantel did everything from babysitting, to washing cars and cat sitting for neighbors, to reselling her friends' old phones on Ebay: hustling. Chantel has never been afraid to work hard. Now, she doesn't have to work so hard. She tells us about how to create systems and become the engineer of our lives. This approach requires thought. It requires mindfulness. It requires strategy. This approach offsets chaos and pressure. “There are infinite ways to do things,” Chantel shares, “How can I have the most enjoyment while doing them?”Chantel is also not afraid to be authentically herself. In a sense, she is as she always has been. She tells us about rediscovering her old Macbook, in which photobooth she found the archive of videos she made from age 16 to 21. In these videos, Chantel would make videos (VLOGS) for her friends, and then answer questions from people on Tumblr, just for fun. Her life now and her hobbies now, are an extension of that joy. She keeps hobbies like tennis, golf, and rollerblading. She likes the aesthetic things in life and lives her life as if it were a hobby in itself: health is a hobby, figuring out equations is a hobby, decorating her house is a hobby… You get the picture. Chantel defines herself as curious and full of energy, and these hobbies definitely demonstrate that. There is an incredible opportunity in listening to this conversation, and understanding the approach of someone who seems to ‘have it all' and whose life may look like it came easy. It looks easy because Chantel has worked hard and made mindful and intelligent decisions. Her life approach is innovative. I hope you are as inspired by this conversation as I was. Soak it in!

Morgan shares a powerful story about the impact of selling cars and the need to treat every customer and employee with care. The conversation highlights the need for change and the potential benefits of increasing female representation in the automotive industry. Join Sean and Morgan in this enlightening discussion as they explore these vital topics, aiming to inspire change and drive progress in the automotive industry!   Key Takeaways The automotive industry lacks sufficient female representation, particularly in leadership positions Dealerships need to understand and address the specific challenges and needs of women in order to attract and retain female talent Sales managers play a crucial role in facilitating the flow of the day and helping their team members grow and succeed Training is a key challenge for salespeople in the automotive industry, and continuous learning and development are essential for success Accountability and holding employees to high standards are important for creating a culture of excellence in the dealership Every car deal has the potential to impact someone's life, and treating each customer and employee with care and respect is crucial   "The biggest downfall and the biggest area of opportunity that we have within the dealerships on the floor is training for all situations."   "Accountability is by far the thing that we're missing the most, and accountability and kind candor having being able to have those tough conversations, but also holding people accountable in a kind way."     About Morgan Jeter Morgan Jeter, a seasoned professional in the Automotive Industry, first embarked on her journey to the showroom floor of a quaint small town. Over the past 14 years, she has navigated various facets of the industry, from sales to management and retail development, demonstrating her ability to adapt to the industry's ever-evolving landscape. Her innovative thinking and creative prowess earned her the prestigious "Best Idea" title twice in the 20-group competition. Having honed her skills at Permaplate alongside industry leaders, Morgan now steers the Germain Concierge ship at Germain Automotive Partnership. Her approach combines traditional methods with cutting-edge strategies, reflecting her commitment to driving the industry forward. However, Morgan's story goes beyond her professional achievements. She comes from a family of successful women in sales, and she is on a mission to inspire women within and beyond the dealership. Her aim is to showcase that with passion, determination, and a touch of creativity, there are no limits to what women can achieve in this industry. Beyond the Showroom: Outside of her automotive career, Morgan cherishes family adventures with her husband, James, and their beloved children, Maxwell and Marley. Whether they're cycling, camping, or embracing the great outdoors, they eagerly embrace each adventure. In addition to her automotive endeavors, Morgan has ventured into a new project, having launched a Photo Booth company. The inaugural event, "Kain and Friends," in Lexington, Kentucky, was a resounding success. Her weekends are dedicated to capturing moments, spreading joy, and sharing laughter wherever she goes. Notable Achievements: Morgan boasts the distinction of having won the "Best Idea" accolade twice, and she has successfully established and managed a thriving buy center, acquiring 80-100 cars monthly. She also had the privilege of sharing insights as a speaker on the All Things Used Cars Clubhouse. Her Secret to Success: Morgan's journey is rooted in authenticity, empathy, and kindness. These core values have been the driving force behind her growth in the industry, enabling her to forge deep connections with customers and colleagues alike.     The Importance of Female Representation in the Automotive Industry   Introduction In a recent interview with Morgan Jeter, a corporate executive in the automotive industry, we discussed the lack of female representation in the field and the challenges faced by women in leadership positions. Morgan, who has 14 years of experience in the industry, shared her insights and provided valuable suggestions for increasing female representation and creating a more inclusive environment. In this article, we will delve deeper into the main themes discussed in the interview, using verbatim quotes from the transcript to support our analysis. We will explore the challenges faced by women in the automotive industry, the importance of female representation, the role of sales managers in building successful teams, and the significance of accountability and finding one's "why." Finally, we will discuss the implications of these themes and the future outlook for the industry.   The Lack of Female Representation Morgan highlighted the fact that there is a significant lack of female representation in the automotive industry. She shared her own experience of being the only woman on the sales floor when she started her career at the age of 21. While there has been some progress in increasing female representation, Morgan emphasized that there is still a long way to go. She attributed this lack of representation to various factors, including the industry's poor reputation, long hours, and the challenges faced by women with children and families. Morgan expressed her belief that the automotive industry is a fantastic place for women and that having more female representation would bring a different thought process and new ideas to the table. She emphasized the need for dealerships to understand what is important to women and to create a supportive and inclusive environment that addresses their needs. This could involve offering flexible schedules, providing childcare options, and listening to the input of female employees.   Recruiting and Retaining Female Candidates When discussing how dealerships can proactively seek out female candidates, Morgan suggested starting with the current female employees within the organization. She recommended asking them for referrals and understanding what they like about working in the automotive industry. By involving current female employees in the recruitment process, dealerships can tap into their networks and attract more women to the industry. Morgan also highlighted the importance of reaching out to women's business networking groups and organizations that support female professionals. By attending events and building relationships with these groups, dealerships can connect with potential candidates who are already interested in pursuing a career in the automotive industry. Additionally, partnering with schools and educational institutions can provide access to a pool of talented individuals who may be interested in joining the industry.   The Role of Sales Managers One of the key themes discussed in the interview was the role of sales managers in building successful teams. Both Morgan and the host emphasized the importance of sales managers in developing talent and creating a supportive environment for their salespeople. Morgan described her role as a sales manager as "facilitating the flow" of the day, which involves working with clients and salespeople to ensure a smooth and successful sales process. The host added that a sales manager's primary job is to build the most incredible sales team, similar to a coach of a sports team. This involves finding the right players, developing their skills, and identifying and overcoming any obstacles that may compromise their success. The host emphasized the need for sales managers to lead by example and to have a clear philosophy, strategy, and mission. By doing so, sales managers can inspire their team and create a cohesive and high-performing unit.   The Challenges Faced by Salespeople Morgan identified training as one of the biggest challenges faced by salespeople in the automotive industry. She emphasized the need for comprehensive training that goes beyond product knowledge and covers all aspects of the sales process. She highlighted the importance of self-training and continuous learning, as well as the role of sales managers in holding their team accountable for ongoing development. The host added that the market is changing, and salespeople need to adapt to new trends and technologies. He emphasized the need for salespeople to invest time in training and to stay up-to-date with industry best practices. He also highlighted the importance of accountability and the consequences of not meeting minimum expectations.   The Significance of Accountability and Finding One's "Why" Morgan emphasized the importance of accountability and kind candor in the automotive industry. She shared her approach to holding her team accountable, stating, "If they were not doing what I had asked and shown and requested of them, they most certainly would not work for me." She highlighted the need for managers to have the courage to address performance issues and to set a minimum expectation of excellence. The host echoed Morgan's sentiments, emphasizing the need for managers to lead by example and to have a clear mission and strategy. He shared a personal story about the impact of creating a memorable experience for a customer, highlighting the importance of going above and beyond to exceed customer expectations. Morgan also discussed the significance of finding one's "why" in the automotive industry. She encouraged automotive professionals to figure out what is important to them and why they do what they do. She shared her own "why" as helping other people be successful and emphasized the importance of focusing on what truly matters in order to stay motivated and overcome challenges.   Implications and Future Outlook The lack of female representation in the automotive industry has significant implications for both dealerships and the industry as a whole. By increasing female representation and creating a more inclusive environment, dealerships can tap into the immense buying power and influence that women possess. This can lead to increased profitability and success for dealerships. Furthermore, comprehensive training and ongoing development are crucial for the success of salespeople and the industry as a whole. By investing in training and holding salespeople accountable, dealerships can ensure that their teams are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a changing market. Looking ahead, it is essential for dealerships to prioritize diversity and inclusion and to actively recruit and retain female candidates. By creating a supportive and inclusive environment, dealerships can attract and retain top talent and drive success in the automotive industry.   Conclusion In conclusion, the lack of female representation in the automotive industry is a significant challenge that needs to be addressed. By actively recruiting and retaining female candidates, dealerships can tap into the immense buying power and influence that women possess. Sales managers play a crucial role in building successful teams and developing talent. Comprehensive training and ongoing development are essential for the success of salespeople and the industry as a whole. By prioritizing diversity and inclusion and investing in training, dealerships can drive success and profitability in the automotive industry. The future outlook for the industry is promising, as more and more dealerships recognize the importance of female representation and work towards creating a more inclusive and diverse workforce.     Resources Dealer Synergy & Bradley On Demand: The automotive industry's #1 training, tracking, testing, and certification platform and consulting & accountability firm.
