“Not ‘Lebanese,' Blanche. Lesbian!” The line originated on The Golden Girls in 1986, after a lesbian friend of Dorothy's came to visit and Blanche mistook her for “Lebanese.” A decade later, Ellen DeGeneres riffed on that same play on words, coming out as “Lebanese” on the Rosie O'Donnell Show shortly before publicly coming out. “Lebanese” lesbians would go on to appear in Mean Girls, on Glee, and even RuPaul's Drag Race. In this episode, Jess and Susie get to the bottom of what made that joke so enduring… and talk to an actual Lebanese lesbian about what it meant to her. On this week's episode, Rosie catches up with her dear friend and 'little sister,' Kristin Chenoweth. In 1999, after Rosie saw Kristin in the Broadway show, You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, in the role of Sally, Rosie predicted she was going to be a "huge huge huge star." And as we now know, Rosie was correct. But what neither of them realized back when Kristin first came on The Rosie O'Donnell Show, was that that was the beginning of a longstanding friendship, which later led them to become each other's chosen family. After not seeing each other for a while, listen in as Rosie and Kristin catch up in only the way sisters do, sharing updates on their personal lives, as well as how they're adjusting to the world at large. “In this business, in this show-fucking-business, you have to reinvent yourself so many times. The attention span is zero and you have to also realize that most people who hire actors or any kind of performer or artist, will remember you from the first time they saw you. That will stick in their head, so reinventing oneself is a necessary evil. But you have to branch out as you grow as a person. Let your art grow. Multi-hyphenates do not sit on their laurels.” - Judy Gold on Multi-Hyphenating Judy Gold knows the value of a good joke – and the steep price of silencing comedians. Round Two with a great pal, an all-around sweetheart and great kisser Joey Kola. After a rousing start, the trio descends into body failures. Have your medical dictionary handy. Luckily it stays very funny. Sexual tension kicks in as Joey recalls Martha Stewart making him perform. As a stand-up comedian for 40 years, Joey Kola has performed for hundreds of thousands of people throughout his career in the US, Canada and England. His high energy, spot on punch lines, and fast delivery assault an audience like a comedic freight train. Joey's topical and timeless material combine to always make his audiences laugh hard. Joey has worked at countless comedy clubs, colleges, casinos, theatrers, cruise ships and corporate functions. Kola's also proud of the success he's had in raising great amounts of money for the many different charities he currently supports. Rosie O'Donnell is a beloved comedian, celebrated actress, and talk show legend. Despite all these professional accolades, it is perhaps her generosity of spirit, her tireless advocacy on behalf of children and families, and her heartfelt commitment to the health of the American theater that most definitively define her impact on popular culture.Born in Commack, New York on March 21, 1962, Rosie O'Donnell embarked on a career as a standup comedian right out of high school, and in short order found herself enjoying a five show winning streak on the iconic television series, “Star Search” Shortly thereafter, she scored additional major appearances on television, including a regular role as Maggie O'Brien on NBC's popular sitcom, “Gimme a Break” and a high profile run as a VH1 VJIn 1992, Rosie was cast alongside Tom Hanks, Madonna, and Geena Davis in the smash hit “A League of Their Own.” She went on to further success on the big screen, starring in twelve films between 1992 and 1996, including 1993's “Sleepless in Seattle,” 1995's “Now and Then,”and 1996's “Beautiful Girls.”Her most monumental break came by accepting NBC's offer to host a variety daytime television show, “The Rosie O'Donnell Show” in 1996. Rosie's innate love of all things show business and her easy rapport with the celebrities she had grown up idolizing translated into a unique and hugely popular TV phenomenon. “The Rosie O'Donnell Show” ran for six seasons and went on to win a variety of Emmy awards, leaving a memorable mark on American television before ending production in 2002.In the past 20 years, Rosie's dedication to her artistic endeavors and charitable interests have continued unabated. Once we actually began talking with her, we laughed out loud, and often, at her insightful zingers. Judy, whose comedic heroes are Joan Rivers and Phyllis Diller, makes you laugh, and think. Approaching 60, her many credits include: countless stand-up comedy performances; two Emmys for her work as a writer and producer on The Rosie O'Donnell Show; two off-Broadway shows, “The Judy Show: My Life as a Sitcom” and “25 Questions for a Jewish Mother;” two books, “Yes I Can Say That: When They Come for the Comedians We're All in Trouble” and “25 Questions for a Jewish Mother;” a weekly podcast, “Kill Me Now;” and roles on television series from the more recent Better Things to Madame Secretary, 30 Rock, Law & Order, Ugly Betty” and “Sex and the City.” Why doesn't Judy Gold have her own series? It's past time, Hollywood! In the meantime, for a much needed dose of her edgy humor, listen to this funny episode. (Special thanks to literary agent and Screen Bitch Malaga Baldi for putting us in touch with Judy.)

Golgothan Guastini Special Effects Get M.A.D. with Chris Graves 8-28-2022 Vincent GuastiniThis podcast is uncut and slightly longer than the standard one-hour show we usually get from Chris.Notes By Chris Graves:I'd like to welcome motion picture/television makeup & special effects master, Vincent J. Guastini! I once had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Guastini in 2007, for filmmaker Kevin Smith's official news website, Newsaskew, now defunct, unfortunately.Vincent started his own special make-up effects company at the age of 22, originally in New Jersey and New York for 15 years, and then later in Hollywood for 19 years. Specializing in prosthetics, creature effects, design, and animatronics. His big breakthrough film came in 1991 when asked to take over the prosthetic effects for Michael Mann's 60-million dollar film "The Last of the Mohicans" for 20th Century Fox. After this film, Vincent went on to supervise and design creature effects for various studio and independent films. In 2001 Vincent moved his company to the West Coast and is now one of the top effects & design studios in Hollywood where Vincent lives and is based for the past 20 years.Vincent's practical effects work is mostly known for his 30-plus years in the business of creating the groundbreaking animatronic wings and creature effects in Kevin Smith's film "Dogma" and for Darren Aronofsky's film, "Requiem for a Dream", he designed sculpted and applied prosthetics changing Oscar-nominated actress Ellen Burstyn into a thinning decaying woman. The prosthetic transformation made Vincent an Oscar hopeful that year and is looked at as one of the most convincing transformations in prosthetic makeup history for subtlety and realism. He later worked with Aronofsky again on the film "Aftermath" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger where Vincent's team created silicone bodies for a graphic plane crash.Guastini's other groundbreaking effects include the first use of silicone technology with fire victim effects for Clint Eastwood's "Letters of Iwo Jima" and "Flags of Our Father". Other films include the Bryan Singer-produced horror film hit "The Taking of Deborah Logan". With the help of prosthetic silicone appliances and puppets, Vincent and his team transformed actress Jill Larson into a crazed demonic possessed creature.Film History & Background:V.G.P. We've had the pleasure of hanging with the man on a few sets, and sharing his love and passion for the cool practical effects that he creates. Vincent's not only a way cool, down-to-earth guy, but he also has been effectively keeping the beauty of real, actual creatures and effects in film, making new strides and creating never-before-seen visuals that just wouldn't look the same in CGI. We applaud him for that. You may recognize some of Guastini's effects in the View Askew flicks Vulgar, Dogma, and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. He also MIGHT be on board for "Red State" (lips tightened but fingers crossed) and even designed some test stuff for the Green Hornet flick that never was. Topics include Carlos Leon, a fortuitous professional break-up letter, the perils of the California high deserts, and those strings … so don't be surprised when Madonna shows up to sing at YOUR Benefit for the Rainforest! “Frozen” video directed by Chris Cunningham (1998)“Frozen” live on The Rosie O'Donnell Show (1998)A MAGNIFICENT Compilation by Victor Gustavo Alkmeida (1998-2021)

“I just love the warmth of being in a cabaret. It's my favorite place to be next to a Broadway theatre. Maybe more so because you get food.” Multi-hyphenates don't always start as actors. Theatre multi-hyphenates find their way through multiple avenues and for Christine Pedi, The Lady of 1000 Voices, it started when she stumbled upon the radio station when she attended Fordham University studying communications. After focusing on a radio career, she started in community theatre, eventually landing her turn at Forbidden Broadway. Then through a connection from Fordham, she was asked to interview at SiriusXM Radio. And now – Pedi is one of the pillars of our community connecting listeners of the radio to the insight of Broadway. Post pandemic, Pedi is also continuing her in person cabaret acts, with a massively funny new show at The Green Room 42, called The Pedi Party, which had a wonderfully successful first show on January. She will be appearing at TGR42 on February 20th and March 31st both at 9:30pm. In this amazing episode, Pedi lets us in to great stories regarding Howard Stern, Joan Rivers, while dissecting the changes and fads of cabaret and sketch comedy, such as how it's moved from live performance to YouTube, and what forms a successful cabaret – or the “Drop Your Pants and Go” mentality. Pedi is also open about losing her eyesight over the years and shares what that means regarding performance and work opportunities. We also discuss the importance of taking care of yourself, a sense of belonging, and hustle. “A lot of people your age don't think about taking care of themselves until they are my age and then you got a lot of catching up to do. But to be forced to really address things now will probably serve you better and probably save you aggravation on other fronts.” Christine the “Lady of 1000 Voices" first discovered her talent for multiple personalities (Merman, Angela Lansbury, Bernadette Peters etc) through her long association with the legendary off Broadway revue FORBIDDEN BROADWAY. She received a Drama Desk nomination for her work in FORBIDDEN HOLLYWOOD (Liza, Rosie Perez, Judi Dench, Sharon Stone etc) as well as an LA Ovation & NAACP Award. She also brought her collection of Divas to off B'ways long running NEWSICAL the Musical and recently starred in and co-produced SPAMILTON: An American Parody written by Forbidden Broadway's creator Gerard Allessandrini. Broadway: Mama Morton (yes just one character...all night) in the 2nd longest running musical of all time CHICAGO, LITTLE ME with Martin Short & Faith Prince, directed by Rob Marshall, and opposite Liev Schreiber in Eric Bogosians TALK RADIO directed by Robert Falls. SIRIUS XM RADIO On Broadway host. On Saturday she and the "aMAHzing" Seth Rudetsky co-host the DUELING DIVAS. Her cabaret show GREAT DAMES has won the New York Bistro & Nitelife Awards and has played NYC, Los Angeles, London, South Africa & beyond. THERE'S NO BIZNESS LIKE SNOW BIZNESS her holiday show has been a seasonal staple in NYC since 2008. She's performed in that “cutie patootie” John McD's Cabaret Corner on the Rosie O'Donnell Show and sung in many major NYC venues & cruiseships including Birdland, Feinsteins/54 Below, The Iridium, The Metropolitan Room, The Algonquin, The Laurie Beechman, Avery Fisher Hall, Don't Tell Mamas...and the QE2...AND she's performed for President & Mrs Clinton (playing a singing HIllary!). Fans of THE SOPRANOS may recognize her as Mrs Bobby Baccala. Other TV: DR DEATH on NBC PEACOCK. Jerry Springer and Ricki Lake. Sally Jessy, Maury, and a few Steves. The other Mark Wahlberg. There was a lot of talk on daytime TV in the '90s. And even more gasp-inducing, can't-look-away insanity: “You are the father!” reveals, surprise drop-ins from exes, strippers, club kids, and daughters begging moms to “stop dressing like me!” Then, exactly 25 years ago, came The Rosie O'Donnell Show. Before signing on, the comedian and actress had insisted upon “no trash” and promised to create a safe space for both kids at home after school and celebrities on the talk show circuit promoting movies. The original “Queen of Nice” (Ellen wasn't the first) joins us to talk about her favorite guests on the show, moments she'd do differently today, the day she was handed a check for $25 million, that Oscar night she was mistaken for Kathy Bates, and if she'll ever bring her show back. (And, obviously, we discuss Tom Cruise and Madonna.) Oh, and remember when Batman's suit got nipples? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In this episode of The IoClothes Podcast, we speak with inventor and e-textiles pioneer, H. Lee Wainwright. With the absolute utmost of respect, he's a mad scientist! This was one of the most interesting and unique conversations I've had in the e-textiles world, and the demo I was shown stuck with me for a very long while after. The best way I can describe what I witness was a cross between an E.T. figure and an elaborate Christmas tree. Listen, Lee has been in the business for a while and led some incredible initiatives, from illuminating outfits that Britney Spears wore during her world tours to auction items showcased on the Rosie O'Donnell Show to projects with Disney and much more! The focus of our conversation is on his new Opti-Coupler™, which at its core is a fiber-optic technology. What's also interesting is Lee is inviting developers and fellow inventors to source the material of his system and collaborate! Hold on and listen up because this just may be the solution to your challenges! In this episode, Ken Plume has another chat with a very funny writer/producer who traces her career from THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN through THE ROSIE O'DONNELL SHOW to THE BEST WEEK EVER (and its Paul F. Tompkins-helmed successor). There are plenty of other stops along the way, and plenty of irons in the fire, so sit back and listen to Ken chat w/ a very funny lady.
