Musician and composer Charlie Rauh recently completed a first-of-its-kind artist's residency at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine.   Rauh spent a month observing practitioners and their animal patients at LSU last summer. He served as acting governor on two separate occasions when then-Gov. Henry Clay Warmoth had to leave the state to recuperate from foot injuries.  Back in 2018, the TriPod team looked into the story of Oscar Dunn. At a time when our nation was tearing down old monuments of defamed political leaders, Laine Kaplan Levenson explored the monument that was supposed to be erected of Dunn in Louisiana in the late 1800s, but never came to be. Overdose deaths are escalating in the United States as our country is under attacked by illicit fentanyl. How do we get to the source of the killer drugs and prevent the devastation? James Rauh is the founder of Families Against Fentanyl (FAF), a national nonprofit organization with a mission to have illicit fentanyl declared a Weapon of Mass Destruction. Following the death of his son Tom from fentanyl poisoning in 2015, James started Families Against Fentanyl to compel new, innovative actions by the federal government to combat the rise in illicit fentanyl across the United States and its concerning potential to be used as a chemical weapon. A longtime businessman in the plastics industry, Mr. Rauh brings his deep understanding of science and chemistry to his work at FAF. All hospital in America, all of them, should be including fentanyl as part of a urine drug screen. Host Joe Selvaggi talks with Stanford University Economics Professor Joshua Rauh about his research on the reaction of Californians to a tax increase, from his report, "The Behavioral Response to State Income Taxation of High Earners, Evidence from California."  Prof. Rauh shares how his research offers tax policy makers insight into the likely effects of similar increases in their own states, including here in Massachusetts. Guest: Joshua Rauh, originally from Newton, MA., is a Professor of Finance at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). Professor Rauh's research on state and local pension systems in the United States has received national media coverage in outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Financial Times, and The Economist. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Finance and an editor of the Journal of Pension Economics and Finance and the Review of Corporate Finance Studies. He holds a BA degree in economics, magna cum laude with distinction, from Yale University and a PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
