The boys are back once again and this time they've got their David Fincher hats ON because they're diving into the latest Fincher film, 'The Killer,' starring Michael Fassbender. But before talkin' Fincher, the guys realize they know very little about history before diving into their favorite segment, Watcha Watchin', where the guys get talkin' about pretty much everything: 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and showing emotion through color,' 'Blue Beetle' and the commodification of leftist ideas, 'The Truman Show' aka a perfect movie, 'The Birdcage,' the Orlando Magic (Jon sells Jose on sports), and 'Obliterated' on Netflix. Jon then sets up a new segment, Reel News, where it's tangent galore as the guys talk Oppenheimer DVD sales and our connection to physical media, 'Fallout' and mining IP, quality content, and GTA on Netflix before FINALLY diving into the 'The Killer.' With an aggregate Critic score of 86% and a 59% Audience score, who do you think's got it right? The critics? The audience? Who cares!? Everyone's a Reel Critic! Subscribe to our Youtube channel! We're back! After an extended, unprecedented and uncommunicated break, we return to your ear holes to bring you the low down on what early 2023 has to offer. As is customary, we offer a wide range of suggestions from UK/Nordic crime dramas, to Japanese love stories and beyond! Elsewhere, Reel News leaves us pondering the reasons why Avatar: The Way of Water has overshadowed Top Gun: Maverick's box office performance and we also discuss the practicalities and necessity of a Michael Jackson Biopic. To wrap things up in a tidy Post-Christmas bow, Netflix's White Noise takes centre stage as our main review. An overlooked masterpiece? An utter waste of your time? Tune in to be completley confused by the answer and ultimately arrive at no decision.
All Hallows' Eve brings sinister forces to the podcast. Can this week's content save the hosts from doom? Dan reviews horror hit Smile and not-so-true crime story The Watcher. James reviews German historical drama The Empress, Apple TV's Bad Sisters, and the number one movie in the world, Black Adam. Reel News uncovers new Exorcist, DC Comics and Avatar content. But does anyone care? What is Evil? Who is evil? Why is evil? Those are the questions that Halloween Ends takes a stab at answering. Does that give us a good horror film? It's complicated.
As the British pound plummets, we take comfort in the comparatively encouraging rise of streaming content available. Sticking with the theme of economic uncertainty James reviews the HBO and BBC collaboration Industry as it enters its sophomore season and delivers his thoughts on Amanda Seyfried's impressive turn as Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout. Elsewhere Dan takes on the responsibility of reviewing the latest Star Wars universe offering, Andor as well as mildly condemning Steven Moffat's latest TV show Inside Man. Reel News features a frustratingly ungrateful William Shatner, a much hated Chris Pratt and a collective recognition that most actors don't wish to consume their own work. Finally, our main review is a film that has dominated headlines in recent weeks, for all the wrong reasons! Despite receiving a 14 minute standing ovation at the Venice film festival, Andrew Dominik's Blonde seems to have fallen foul when it comes to critical consensus but even the majority of everyday Joe's/Jane's seem to hate it too. Is it really as reprehensible as everybody is saying?
We discuss shopping etiquette with your partner, and Dan reveals his very specific bathing requirements. A mostly positive watchlist features Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Devil in Ohio, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Welcome to Wrexham, and Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Reel News covers the two hottest topics in "the biz" - Harry Styles' spit and the new Cloverfield Sequel. Three Thousand Years of Longing is a box office flop and reviews are mixed. We let the genie out of the bottle and took a look for ourselves, then wished we hadn't.
This week we dig into the latest that streaming services have to offer, alongside some that have flown under the radar. James reviews Under the Banner of Heaven and The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power. Meanwhile Dan gives his thoughts on The Resort and Fall, a film that will likely not draw a box office crowd, but does it deserve to? Reel News focuses in on the recent purge of negative reviews for Amazon's most expensive show of all time and we give credence to the rumour that Taika Waititi may not be retuning for another Thor instalment. For our main review, in the absence of anything worth our time, we resort to a film that's been out for months but still shows no signs of running out of fuel. Tom Cruise is back in the cockpit for Top Gun: Maverick.
In this public transport themed special we choo choose to talk about a wide range of content. The first stop is 'What we've been watching' which includes Colin Farrell and Viggo Mortensen's attempt to rescue Thirteen Lives and Alex Garland's polarising horror film Men. Meanwhile on an alternative platform James discusses his underwhelming reception to The Sandman but finds joy in the Alicia Vikander's Irma Vep. Next, we veer off track and pull into the Reel News station to breakdown Warner Bros' cancellation of the film nobody knew existed, Batgirl. And, as we approach the end of the line, we maintain full steam ahead for this weeks main review, Brad Pitt's latest action film, Bullet Train. Is it worth purchasing a ticket for the ride? You'll have to climb aboard to find out....
With the UK heatwave a distant melting memory, attentions turns to the last sizzling hot content. Including: The Gray Man, Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special, Bosch: Legacy, Black Bird, and sleeper hit horror film The Black Phone. A long - some might say rambling - edition of Reel News focuses on the supposed decline of Netflix and their looming content crisis. Everyone has felt lonely at some point in their lives. Eating lunch by yourself, joining an empty Call of Duty lobby, we've all been there. But have you ever been so isolated that you built a robot using a washing machine and a mannequin head? That is the story of Brian and Charles, a lovely British comedy with a heart of silicon.
James tries to rearranges his life while Dan has an accident. None of that stops the brave hosts from opinionating on new content. James gushes over Korean drama Pachinko but spy thriller All the Old Knives is just alright. Dan follows the hype of Moon Knight and significantly lowers the tone with Channel 4's Open House: The Great Sex Experiment. Also an offer is a full series review of Apple TV's breakout hit Severance. Netflix dominates Reel News, which features a riveting live commentary on the streaming giant's tumbling stock price. The Outfit is the best film of the year that you probably haven't heard of and it's the main review for this episode. A thrilling yarn that seamlessly stitches together multiple narrative threads, with pockets of action and plenty of twists up its sleeve.
After an unplanned two-week hiatus we're back to doing what we like to think we do reasonably well, reviewing the latest but not necessarily greatest content for our dear listeners. James scrapes the barrel of streaming services and delivers some rather lukewarm thoughts on Last One Laughing Canada, then goes more mainstream with a surprising turnaround in quality for Season 2 of Picard. Elsewhere, Dan laps up everything related to toxic relationships with Deep Water and Bad Vegan. Reel News is a free-flowing discussion of Rebel Wilson's epic Bafta hosting failure, William Hurt's untimely death, and Netflix's recent price hike/lockdown on sharing logins. We didn't do our research and it shows but we like to think it makes for an interesting conversation. For our main review, we revisit an old friend in a different form. Matt Reeves is the latest director to tackle the beloved Batman Franchise. Will his interpretation of the world's greatest detective be fresh enough to warrant a brand new trilogy of films or will we be left yearning for Christopher Nolan to come back and save The Batman?
As current world events plunge us into further uncertainty you can always rely on In The Aisles for a weekly dose of normalcy. This week it's a mixed bag of strong recommendations amidst heartfelt condemnations. James gives his initial thoughts on Apple TV's Severance, the Kanye West documentary Jeen-Yuhs and The Legend of Vox Machina. Elsewhere Dan regretfully reviews Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Cat Burglar, and the latest film addition to Disney+ No Exit. Reel News takes a backseat this week as we wade through the debate over which singular streaming service we would choose to take with us on a remote desert island. Don't get it twisted, choice is a good thing, but perhaps there's just too damn much of it and these everyday folks/hosts just want a simpler world with streamlined options. Finally, Steven Soderbergh's latest offering Kimi takes center stage and opinions look to be divided amongst critics and viewers. Who will we side with? Or will we remain stereotypically British and sit on the fence to avoid any potential fallout?
Seasons greetings from your favourite lockdown therapy podcast! As a little stocking filler to see you through the festive period, we gift you Frank and sense judgment on the latest streaming content, and it arrives 2 days earlier than expected. So shove us in your earholes if you wish to ignore family and friends. With reviews of Dr. Brain and Wrath of Man James gives us something to chew on but it isn't a human brain... Dan embraces the spirit of Christmas and begrudgingly watches 8-Bit Christmas and The Last Train to Christmas (if you didn't know, it's Christmas). Meanwhile, deep in the realm of Reel News, we compare our End of Year review choices against those who actually know what they are talking about. Or do they? Finally, after the unrelenting hype and rumour mill that is Spider-Man: No Way Home, will we finally declare we are done with the MCU? You can find an Instagram post that reveals the answer to this but we deny all knowledge or affiliation to said post, and therefore can't comment. In fact... the image has now been taken down.
After being largely ignored by cinema-goers around the globe, James takes a chance on Ridley Scott's The Last Duel with rewarding results. Sticking closer to home, he also praises another criminally under-watched British gem In My Skin. Dan remains predictable and consumes two new Crime dramas; HBO's Landscapers and Netflix's True Story. We also collectively discuss The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring for our "vintage" movie review. Listeners might find it refreshing that Marvel-related speculation is absent from this week's Reel News segment. Instead, as it 'Tis the season to be jolly' we discuss Santa Inc., HBO's latest animated comedy which has been massively review bombed. We also touch on the cinematic capitalization of the festive period. Finally, we change the tone as we delve into the critically revered Tick, Tick... Boom! Neither of us can be considered musical aficionados but can we sing from the same hymn sheet, look past our inexperience and appreciate a finely tuned biographical drama?
James springs a quiz ambush that puts Dan's film knowledge to the test. After the dust settles, we discuss some of the very latest streaming offerings: Wolfe, The North Water, Squid Game, and Only Murders in the Building. It was a great week for Reel News. We cover Marcia Lucas bashing the Star Wars sequels, the collapse of ill-conceived reality show The Activist, and the proposed redesign of Jessica Rabbit. And verily, we doth have a hearty main review for thee, of a long expected tale we have long coveted. The Green Knight. A film that subverted everyone's expectations by not being the story of Batman fighting climate change.

This week we both find The One on Netflix but it may not be a match made in heaven. James takes a chance on Last Chance U: Basketball, and Dan goes indie with Joe Cinque's Consolation and The Strange Thing About the Johnsons. Reel News inevitably covers the Oscar nominations, but we also discuss the hype for Zack Snyder's Justice League and the so-called original content on Disney+ Star. In the main review, Apple TV tries to pop its Oscar cherry by joining forces with the Russo brothers, famed directors of You, Me, and Dupree. At 141 minutes, Cherry has not borne awards fruit but surely it will be worth watching.

What streaming content have we discovered this week? That's the question that limited people are asking but most have come to expect an answer to. In response, James takes us on a TV journey from rejuvenating Mindful Escapes to picturesque Bloodlands. Meanwhile, Dan discusses Framing Britney Spears and the latest series of Unforgotten. In the absence of any worthwhile Reel News and despite the fact that nobody really cares, we talk through the results of the Golden Globes. Finally, for the big event, Rosamund Pike may have achieved awards glory with her latest turn in I Care a Lot, but can a strong performance carry a film with inherently despicable characters littered throughout?
