Join a circle of women and celebrate the archetype of the goddess. This archetype is a part of all humans, but it has been suppressed. We'll discuss our lost herstory when the goddess was known, and discover why reconnecting to this heritage affects us personally today, as well as our cultures. As we energize the goddess archetype within, we exercise our conscious decision to access our right-brain perspective. In this podcast, we will explore: What is your concept of the Creator? How do you feel about the word, “Goddess?” The untold history of women and the psychic shackles that remain in us today. The history before gender hierarchy was established, and experience the healing that comes when we open to our natural balance. The wise perspective of your right brain. How embracing the many forms of feminine beauty, power, and presence is beneficial for both men and women (all humans), and see how images of the sacred feminine can be reparative. In our latest episode of The Modern Pain Podcast, we had the privilege of hosting Bronnie Lennox Thompson, an authority in pain management and a postgraduate academic coordinator for studies in pain and pain management at the University of Otago. This enlightening conversation delves into the often-underestimated skills of active listening and compassion, both crucial elements in effective pain management. We discuss how healthcare's increasing focus on cost containment, efficiency, and productivity often leads to a loss of humanity and how we, as clinicians, can bring it back.Bronnie provides valuable insights into why clinicians need to give themselves the grace of more time and skills to truly hear and understand their patients. This not only enriches the therapeutic process but also addresses the growing issue of clinician burnout. With over three decades in the field, Bronnie argues that no patient ever complained about being listened to too much. She emphasizes that it's not just about meeting the patient's stated expectations; it's about letting them know you're listening and you care.***HELPFUL LINKS****Bronnie's blog - an absolute treasure trove on content to help you better utilize ACT and improve your overall pain management strategyDANCING AROUND THE HEXAFLEX: USING ACT IN PRACTICE 1DANCING AROUND THE HEXAFLEX: USING ACT IN PRACTICE 2DANCING AROUND THE HEXAFLEX: USING ACT IN PRACTICE 3DANCING AROUND THE HEXAFLEX: USING ACT IN PRACTICE 4*********************************************************************

Episode 32: Restoring Humanity in EducationTrust Kids. That's the takeaway from public school educator-turned nonprofit founder Chris McNutt, whose work at the Human Restoration Project aims to revolutionize teacher and student wellbeing. What would schools look like if we designed an educational system around trust? How could student agency and teacher creativity become pillars of a progressive, future-focused education? And how do we get there?Guest: Chris McNuttResources, Transcript, and Expanded Show NotesIn This Episode:“So much of teaching the teacher has become seeing teachers as technicians, right. It's become, how can I tell teachers exactly what to do and keep firm control over the sequential pace of the curriculum? And as a result, that's how many teachers see their own classrooms…many teachers and teaching curriculums look at cognitive science and they go, oh, well it says right here that if you give kids X number of questions and talk to them for X amount of time, that is like, the perfect amount of time to talk to them about this concept. Therefore, let's do that over and over again until they improve their test scores.” (14:23)“No one's coming to save us. That top down reforms from government organizations or from districts rarely lead to any type of solution. In fact, they often lead to more problems than they attempt to solve. For example, someone might come in and offer a new set of standards for us to look at and analyze and incorporate into our classrooms, which has happened, I felt like when I was teaching, every two years, there was some kind of new initiative to push for. And ultimately nothing changed, and it burnt a lot of people out.” (24:49)“If I walk into the room and think that kids are gonna try to get away with something, I'm gonna start pushing toward more carceral practices. I'm gonna ban things. I'm gonna tell kids what they can and can't do. And that's what leads us to schools where kids aren't allowed to talk in the hallway, or they're not allowed to have water bottles in classrooms, and these ridiculous things that I would never wanna subject another person to at all.” (45:08)Related Episodes: 27, 23, 19, 11, 2022 Bonus Episode, 7 Hosted on Acast. In this episode, France provides a clear yet nuanced understanding of personalized learning. He explains how personalized learning is different from other adjacent concepts such as differentiated instruction and individualized learning plans. He advocates for a process that respects teacher knowledge and time, the optimal learning environment for students and the need for all to have a voice.

Please make a gift to our new Fund for Excellence in Publishing at https://www.ctexplored.org/subscribe/friends-of-connecticut-explored/ For over a century, almost 1700 people buried in the cemetery at the Connecticut Valley Hospital were identified with gravestones bearing only a number instead of a name. In the 1990s, names of the deceased were restored to the site. In this episode of Grating the Nutmeg, Natalie Belanger of the Connecticut Historical Society (https://chs.org/) is taking a look at a digital history project that will help expand our understanding of the lives of the people buried in that cemetery and of mental health care in Connecticut's past. Transforming Justice...by Changing the Narratives. This week we will explore "Restoring Humanity" w/ Rev. Tia Littlejohn When we refer to people who are, or have been, in contact with the criminal justice system as “felons,” “offenders,” “inmates,” or “convicts,” we define them by the worst act of their lives, creating a stigma that lingers long after they've paid their debt to society. If we are serious about removing barriers for people with felony convictions, we must change the words we use to describe them. For centuries, criminologists erroneously regarded people who broke the law as savages and animals... Remember the term "Super Predators" which was first coined in a Magazine article in 1995....The coming of the Super Predators. The article written by a young Princeton professor that did a study on some Philadelphia boys. He blamed these chronic offenders on “moral poverty … the poverty of being without loving, capable, responsible adults who teach you right from wrong.” He warned that by the year 2000 an additional 30,000 young “murderers, rapists, and muggers” would be roaming America's streets, sowing mayhem. He wrote, “They place zero value on the lives of their victims, whom they reflexively dehumanize as just so much worthless ‘white trash.'" This dehumanizing "Superpredator" theory had a profounding effect on how the media, Judge, Prosecutors, Police and everyday citizens viewed young black men. The Super predator messaging suspended the feelings of empathy towards young black people and people of color. It is a racist theory that had no crime stats backing. This is just one of many examples of dehumanization of people. This week's conversation lead by Rev Tia Littlejohn will explore these examples and how we can change these narratives, and reduce stigmas. No one should be defined by just one experience or aspect of their identity. Leading with “people” affirms our shared humanity. How we describe the men and women involved in the criminal justice system should respect their individualism, diversity, and humanity, not flatten their identity and neglect their capacity for growth. So please join Rev Tia Littlejohn, The Justice Gerard Movement, Jay Love, Attorney Hugo Mack, Alexandria Hughes, and Trischè Duckworth for this community conversation. Religion has a way of stripping individuals of their humanity and demanding perfection through performance. This behavior is detrimental to everyone involved. In this episode Abi's lifelong friend, Pietze, joins Abi and Justin. Pietze shares about her upbringing as a Pastor's kid and the painful affects institutionalized religion had on her family. Together they take a gracious look at the driving force behind people's destructive actions, while humanizing everyone involved. In this special episode, WD Partners’ Dan Stanek takes over as host of WDCast and sits down with the founder and CEO of Iora Health – Dr. Rushika Fernandopulle. Vulnerability is one of the greatest strengths a leader can show. My guest this week and founder of The Restoration Project, Lindsay Leahy, is a prime example of that. She empowers leaders to find the humanity in themselves which takes her one step closer to expanding her own vision, restoring humanity in the workplace.
In this week's Everyday Conversations Podcast, Shafer Parker interviews Apologetics Canada president Andy Steiger, on his new book entitled Reclaimed: How Jesus Restores our Humanity in a Dehumanized World. They discuss how a lot of new ideas about the nature of man have permeated the popular mind, and the subsequent negative impact those ideas have had on the world.
Aaron Ross changed the game for scaling startups with his smash hit books "Predictable Revenue" and "From Impossible to Inevitable." In this episode, we will explore practical ways to develop oneself and theories on where Sales Development is going so you can be ready for the high-tech future that is rushing at us at 200 miles per hour. Skills must improve, outreach must be more human, and Money Ball is real. Subspecialization and converged systems are not going away. There will be a rainbow of flavors of what XDR even means – even Sales Management could become sub-specialized.

For this episode we're trying something new. Instead of having a guest, I'm (Chris) deep-diving into one element of progressive education - offering history and advice to gradeless learning. I tried my best to cover an extensive look at this topic, including - most importantly - the point of why this is needed. There are many quotes and research provided, here is a list of the resources used:The "Grading / Gradeless Learning" category of our research page.Much of the historical data (and all quotes) are from "Making the grade" by Jack Schneider & Ethan Hunt (2013).We recommend the portfolio tool Seesaw.**Mistakenly, I said that Seesaw was free for everything except grading - this is mostly true, but to assign "skills" and organize student posts via tags it is $120/year. A simple workaround is to create folders for skills and have students upload work into them.I celebrate the upcoming work of the Mastery Transcript Consortium.*Also, I stated "Deborah Meiers" as a source for "creative noncompliace." I meant "Deborah Meier."Much of these thoughts are laid out in text form with specific recommendations for educators in our free resource, Grading =/ Assessment.I hope this podcast was valuable to you! Lucy from RUSH gives an inspirational talk for our Easter Sunday service based on John 20: 1-18
Philip gives the final talk in our restoring humanity series. His passage was Luke 19: 28-40
We are continuing our series on Redeeming Humanity, looking at how God redeems us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. This week we were looking at how easy it is to exclude people and look to keep everything safe but how Jesus talks of the overwhelming grace and generosity of God. There was an expectation in 1st Century Judaism (as is shared in Christianity) that there would be a great feast at the end of time where the saviour of the world, the Messiah, would be its host. This came from a passage in Isaiah 25 describing this feast. By Jesus’ time the feast had been re-defined to exclude the gentiles that Isaiah talked of being welcomed. Jesus tells the parable to point out that God’s grace was so much bigger than people wanted to believe. Will based the talk on Luke 14: 15-24
Will gives the next talk in our 'Restoring Humanity' series based on Matthew 15: 21-28 and Luke 10: 38-42
The second talk in our new series leading up to Easter which will be looking at how the life, death and resurrection is key to understanding how God restores humanity. Mark 1: 14 - 26
We started our new series leading up to Easter which will be looking at how the life, death and resurrection is key to understanding how God restores humanity. But to do that we need to know how and why we need God to restore us. So, on Sunday we looked at the story of the Fall in Genesis 3. We looked at how, although we have been created by God to be in relationship with Him and each other, we preferred to avoid deep relationship and chose instead to disobey God; even though he warned us of the consequences. We saw how the wish to judge us is alien to God’s nature but that He will – especially if we move too far away from the boundaries that God, out of love, has set societies to live within. He will judge us and allow us to live in exile, even though it grieves God’s heart.
