Amados filhos, nasceu o nosso Salvador.

In the beginning was the…conversation? In this episode Jeff and Dave tackle a fascinating 1977 article by Marjorie O'Rourke Boyle in which she reviews the history of the translation of John 1:1, particularly the Latin words used to express the Greek ὁ λόγος (logos), usually taken in English as “Word”. We learn that the earliest Latin translations used the word sermo (“conversation”), which seems to have a broader range of meanings and referents (connotation vs. denotation) than the verbum Jerome selected, and which then dominated translations for a millennium. And just when you thought it was safe to crack open the Vulgate, along comes Erasmus in 1516, who rocks the theological and philological worlds by suggesting a return to sermo. Which word better expresses the range of the Greek logos? How might our choice change the way we read John 1:1?
*Kungs nāks un nekavēsies. Viņš apgaismos to, kas apslēpts tumsā, un atklās sevi visām tautām. /Sal. Hab 2,3 + 1 Kor 4,5. Domini).

Apart from the resurrection, our faith in Jesus is meaningless. If the tomb had not been found empty on that first Easter morning, the hope of Jesus conquering sin and death would be dashed. But the empty tomb means something life-changing: we don't have to live an empty life. And if you've ever looked for life in dead places, remember the question asked to the women who showed up to the tomb, expecting a dead body: "Why do you look for the living among the dead?" Jesus is risen. He is alive. The empty tomb holds a promise for you—of life and life to the full, if your faith is in the risen Savior, Jesus. Support the show
I Wish I Would’ve Known People Were Here For Me Acts 16:25–26 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. LoveJohn 1:1-14In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1“In the beginning was the Conversation and the Conversation was with God.”When the Gospel of John was translated into Latin from its original Greek, translators of the first few centuries used the Latin word sermo for the Greek word logos in this passage. There's a perfectly good Latin word that denotes a single linguistic utterance—it is verbum, word in English.Sermo, according to Victoria Loorz in her book Church of the Wild, “means not ‘word' but ‘conversation.' Sermo indicates not a one-way sermon but a lively discourse, a dialogue, a manner of speaking back and forth: a conversation” (p. 109). Sermo, more than verbum, connotes the riches of meaning in the word logos. For this is a relational word full of all the words of the divine life-force that holds all of life together.“In the beginning was the Conversation and the Conversation was with God.”I imagine Mary having a conversation with the infant in her womb much as I did when I was pregnant. “Shush now and let me sleep,” I murmured, and the baby kicked back: “I will not be ignored.” Conversation. The baby's father leaned toward my full belly, “Daddy to baby, daddy to baby,” he chanted; and the baby squirmed, in delight I imagine. Conversation. The baby emerges from Mary's body into the dimness of a manger and cries. Mary hugs him close and soothes him, “it's alright, you're alright.” Conversation.Christmas Eve is a night of remembering holy conversations, the speaking of holy words from one to another, between infant and parent, between God and humanity, between and among one another. This eternal, life-giving, embodied and re-embodied, conversation was in the beginning. It is now. And it will be our end.Dr.

Do you remember that the Zika virus outbreak was a real concern at the Brazil Olympic Games of 2016? To find out if Japan has been able to learn from that experience, Physician's Weekly speaks with Dr. Annie Sparrow, assistant professor of population, and health science, and policy at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, about the potential risks for the Paralympics, held just one month later. Also in this episode, our correspondent Kai Marshall speaks with our regular expert contributor with the pseudonym Dr. Medlaw about how a doctor should prepare for a deposition in a malpractice case: in a court of law, what should you wear? How should you act? What should you never, ever do?First, we speak to Dr. Guy Jones, an Radiation Oncologist in Reno where he serves as the Medical Director for Oncology Nevada. SERMO, in case you don't know of it, is a social media platform for physicians. Recently, Dr. Jones and colleagues polled over 70,000 physicians to generate the COVID-19 Real Time Barometer, gathering data about how physicians can counter vaccination resistance. For example, more than 72% of physicians surveyed said that patients continue to voice concerns over vaccine side effects. Still others have reported ongoing misinformation discouraging people from getting vaccines.Let us know what you thought of this week's episode on Twitter: @physicianswkly Want to share your medical expertise, research, or unique experience in medicine on the PW podcast? Coffee Conversations w/ Samantha Coffman, Fr. Joshua, and Deacon Bob
Initially, men are made new by the rebirth of baptism. Yet there still is required a daily renewal to repair the shortcomings of our mortal nature, and whatever degree of progress has been made there is no one who should not be more advanced. All must therefore strive to ensure that on the day of redemption no one may be found in the sins of his former life.Dear friends, what the Christian should be doing at all times should be done now with greater care and devotion, so that the Lenten fast enjoined by the apostles may be fulfilled, not simply by abstinence from food but above all by the renunciation of sin. From a sermon by Saint Leo the Great, pope(Sermo 6 de Quadragesima, 1-2: PL 54, 285-287)

Channels of influence in pharma have expanded from the traditional offline sphere of publications, trials, conference activities and others to include a vast new digital landscape that is shaping the way we need to interact with a new generation of key opinion leaders -- so-called "digital" KOLs. Digital KOLs have an "omnipresent" digital footprint that can include social media, independent websites, healthcare professional discussion platforms like SERMO and Doximity and a seemingly endless number of other potential channels. So what does this mean for those trying to find and reach out to these key influencers? Nick Lapolla, Manager, KOL Market Research at inVentiv Health Research and Insights and Madeline Rounds, Consultant on the inVentiv Health Medical Communications team, discuss how KOL mapping in this new age is both easier and harder than it used to be, highlight best practices and tactics and explain why it's still necessary to keep a human element in the mix.
