Ike Reese, Spike Eskin, and Jack Fritz count down the most annoying habits of Philadelphia fans, from "Dallas Sucks" chants to the overuse of "Go Birds" as a greeting.
In Hour 1 of Willard & Dibs, Mark Willard and Dan Dibley discuss the idea of the San Francisco 49ers running back their roster for another season — mostly. They also discuss Louis Riddick's rant about abolishing the preseason due to injury concerns. Is there too much worry about injuries in the NFL? Willard argues that sports fans are getting too overprotective about injuries, especially since injuries will happen regardless.
Are you a sports superfan? Or do you wonder what's driving the superfans in your life? Daniel Wann, PhD, of Murray State University, talks about why being a fan is usually good for people's mental health, how they choose the teams they root for, why some are fair-weather fans while others love to cheer for the underdog, how fandom is changing among younger people, and whether a crowd of supportive fans can affect the outcome of a game. Willard and Dibs discuss Terrion Arnold's situation, and what sports fans can tolerate regarding player conduct on their favorite teams.
Should we pursue "loungevity" instead of longevity? This is a question posed by prominent sports commentator Colin Cowherd on a recent rant that appeared on Instagram. It was very entertaining, and the intent was to be humorous, but it was also, to me, very offensive at times and brings up this big question that we continue to face: the juggling act of trying to enjoy our lives and not miss out versus trying to make sensible, healthy choices that promote longevity rather than send us into this spiral of accelerated aging and demise that has become the norm. In this episode, I break down Cowherd’s rant point by point, giving him credit where he gets it right while challenging some of the arguments he makes about enjoying life and not worrying so much about health. We get into alcohol, sleep, hydration, processed foods, biohacking, and the constantly changing research on what is and isn’t healthy. I also get into the question of how much control we really have over our health destiny, why your genes are not your destiny, and why four of the five markers of metabolic syndrome can be reversed in a matter of weeks with dietary transformation. Most importantly, I look at some remarkable examples of people who are actually aging powerfully and performing at a high level—from 85-year-old high jumper Kathy Bergen and 101-year-old sprinter Lester Wright to 90-year-old Earl Fee, 61-year-old world-record 400-meter runner Sue McDonald, and my own father, who played championship golf and shot his age more than 1,200 times. These are the people we should be paying attention to when it comes to figuring out how to age well. TIMESTAMPS: Do we have to have a juggling act between trying to enjoy life and staying fit? Many people use rationalizations, excuses and cop-outs along the lines of "Hey, life is short, we might as well enjoy ourselves." [01:08] The United States is now the fattest, sickest population in the history of humanity with over 80% designated as metabolically unhealthy. For waist to height ratio, you want to measure better than 2 to 1. [05:21] There is more of a problem with obesity than there is with starving children in Africa. [08:50] Brad critiques a recent quip from Colin Cowherd. There is a whole group of sports fans who rationalize "what I could have been." You can still do something to keep in the game. [11:51] Does alcohol have any health benefits? [15:33] Many aspects of the biohacking scene have gone a little bit wild, extreme and somewhat inappropriate. [19:52] Are you getting enough hydration when you drink coffee and orange juice? [23:17] Sleep deprivation is one of the biggest public health problems on the planet. [24:24] A processed power bar is very nutrient deficient and health destructive. [27:37] The extreme biohackers are deeply immersed into that lifestyle but it is mostly unreachable for most of us. [31:27] With so many new technological inventions, are we soon going to have some drugs that neutralize the adverse impact of junk food? [35:18] VO2 max is a measurement of the volume of oxygen that you consume per minute per kilogram of body weight while your are exercising. [37:10] The use of anti-aging hormone replacement therapy can override adverse lifestyle practices. [42:16] There are many folks giving advice out there who do not have the experience needed to be telling you what to do. [42:16] Your genes are not your destiny. The genes require lifestyle behaviors in order to be expressed. [51:42] There are four blood markers that can be corrected and reversed out of the disease risk category into healthy category in a matter of weeks of dietary transformation. [57:16] "I wanna live a life that's healthy enough to enjoy and enjoyable enough to be healthy." My newsletter: https://simonowens.substack.com/ When Ellen Hyslop and her co-founders launched The Gist in 2017, none of them had worked in media or the sports industry. They were young professionals in financial services who had grown frustrated with a sports media ecosystem that largely catered to men while overlooking millions of potential female fans. What began as a side project built during evenings and Sundays has since grown into a sports media brand with more than 1 million newsletter subscribers, hundreds of thousands of social followers, a podcast, paid community, proprietary games, and partnerships with major advertisers. In a recent interview, Hyslop explained how scrappy marketing helped attract The Gist's first subscribers, why social media became an important source of revenue, and how the company is expanding into a paid community and launching its own games.
JD reacts to the Blue Jays' loss to the Astros, along with the apparent injuries to Trey Yesavage and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. coming out of the trade deadline. Then, Bomani Jones, Emmy Award winning host of The Right Time with Bomani Jones, joins JD to chat about the Dodgers and the potential for a salary cap in Major League Baseball, the situation around the Portland Trail Blazers and how it relates to the big picture in sports, and the news around the Kawhi Leonard investigation, before getting into the continued player movement in the NBA. After the break, JD and the producers go through "What We Missed". What can Formula One and football teach businesses about building customer relationships that continue long after a single event? In this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I speak with Ben Lewis, Vice President of Marketing at Infobip, about the company's work with AI-powered sports companions and what those experiences can teach customer experience leaders in every industry. Ben explains how Infobip worked with TGR Haas F1 Team to create RaceMate, an AI companion available through WhatsApp and Apple Messages for Business. Fans can access team information, driver histories, race schedules, trivia, personalized content and interactive experiences without downloading another application. We also discuss PitchMate, Infobip's conversational companion for global football fans. It remembers a fan's preferred team, can deliver personalized schedules and match information, and supports quizzes and other interactive features across an extended tournament. For me, one of the most useful lessons is the decision to meet fans inside messaging channels they already use. We have all downloaded an application for a conference, flight or one-off event, used it for several days and then forgotten it exists. RaceMate and PitchMate allow the conversation to remain available in the same place someone would message a friend. Ben also explains why Infobip measures success through returning users, conversation duration and the number of interactions rather than relying solely on clicks. TGR Haas F1 Team is currently using RaceMate to grow its fan community and provide useful content rather than constantly pushing merchandise. The same thinking can apply far beyond sports. We discuss travel companies contacting customers during unresolved claims, healthcare providers sending poorly timed automated messages and brands promoting products without recognizing that a customer is already involved in a dispute. Connected data can help prevent these disjointed experiences. Our conversation closes with practical advice for businesses adopting agentic AI. Ben recommends connecting customer data with campaigns, testing carefully, establishing guardrails and defining when an AI agent should transfer a conversation to a person. Are businesses investing too much in new customer applications when the better experience could already live inside WhatsApp, RCS or Apple Messages for Business? Please share your thoughts with me.

In this episode, Aiden asks the question: Why is being a sports fan so expensive? He talks about the different types of things that sports fans spend money on, including tickets, merchandise, and parking tickets. He adds on by discussing why diehard fans have the desire to spend hundreds of dollars annual on rooting for a team. Is there a reason for the expense? You may still spend money on watching sports, but might as well be informed about it!

The 2026 World Cup in North America introduced mandatory Hydration Breaks every 20-ish minutes. Fans are big mad that soccer is now “played in quarters,” and the players get a chance to be coached during these mandatory breaks. But … the field of play is much more humid and also hotter than these players (and their fans) are used to, so FIFA stepped in to protect the players. OR DID THEY? I am fascinated at the anger, and sadness people have when they watch their favorite team play. I get the jubilation when their team wins, but when they lose, WOW. There are some serious emotions being expressed. Oh, I understand disappointment, but it is and has been a fascinating study that I have done for years about sports fans. Put on your team jersey and enjoy.
In a world of infinite entertainment choices, how does a sports franchise earn a fan's loyalty when the game isn't being played?Agility requires meeting fans where they are, with the right message at the right moment, whether they're on their couch or in their seat. This means adapting communication strategies in real-time to create a conversation, not just a broadcast.Today, we're going to talk about how sports franchises are navigating an incredibly crowded calendar to build deeper relationships with their fans. It's no longer just about what happens on the field or the court; it's about merging technology and creativity to design a seamless fan journey that extends from their living room to the stadium and back. This means looking beyond traditional broadcast and email to create interactive, personalized experiences that add real value. To help me discuss this topic, I'd like to welcome, Ben Lewis, VP of Marketing and Growth at Infobip. In today's episode, I sit down with Parker Graham, former pro athlete and Founder and CEO of Vestible, to talk about democratizing sports ownership and creating access beyond billionaires and private equity. Parker shares how his single mother's grit shaped his drive, why education became his foundation, and how his background in wealth management led him into FinTech. We also talk about building real community through in-person relationships, email, loyalty, and shared ownership. From European soccer clubs to secondary markets, Parker explains how Vestible is giving everyday fans a new way to participate in the business of sports.
"Dan, you don't fart? Your breath must stink." Lane Kiffin is the subject of a new Vanity Fair article in which he claims he needed Oxford more than Oxford needed him. Do we believe him? Is that even true? Then, the best-dressed man on TV and Mike Ryan Ruiz group chat world member, Adam Lefkoe, joins the show ahead of the French Open to discuss how he became a tennis guy, why Chris Simms is his nemesis in sports media, how Greg Cote can win a Pulitzer Prize, and how the New York Knicks embarrassed his Philadelphia 76ers. Plus, is the famous parrot, Woody the Woodpecker, on the Mount Rushmore of red-headed athletes? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
