Thought it was a good time to do a tribute to one of my favorite indie labels, PM Records. Listening to their music is kind of like a sci-fi-jazz-adventure, where the sound isn't easily labeled but the music is taking the listener in all kinds of directions while keeping a solid groove. Hope you dig it! Tracklist: Steve Grossman, Doug Riley, Stone Alliance, Elvin Jones, Stone Alliance, Steve Grossman, Pat Labarbera, Don Thompson

And thus, the benefit of “a service that interrupts you while you're in the process of buying something expensive and unnecessary.” On a set, that's known as the line producer. And today, Rob pays tribute to one of the best, Steve Grossman, a 35-year industry veteran (Newhart, Hope & Gloria, George and Leo, Love & Money, Lateline) who was the secret weapon for sitcom success — and to whom the industry recently bid farewell. For the last 45 years or so, our shul has been distributing candles that we light at night to usher in Yom HaShoah. Each candle carries the name of one person, one out of the Six Million. As I shared at this year's Yom HaShoah program, our members Barbara and Steve Grossman showed me their folder that has the names of the individuals that they thought about as they lit the candles every Yom HaShoah for the last 45 years. They have kept every name. I won't go through all 45 years, but just to give you a sense of it: In 1994 they remembered Esther Kligerman. In 1995 Raizel Farbman. In 1996 Moshe Bikel. In 1997 Else Paradies. In 1998 Samuel Hirsch Kornblatt. In 1999 Theres Neuberg. In 2000 Moshe Fish. In 2001 Gertude Meidedner. And so it goes for 45 years. For each one, they would ask, we would all ask: where was the rest of the world? What was the rest of the world doing? That was always our question, at every other Yom HaShoah.

Website: http://www.hotcountrypodcast.com Chris McKay interviews ACM Award Winner, singer, songwriter and performer Dave Gibson from the Gibson/Miller Band. From his humble beginnings in Nashville to writing huge hits for Alabama, Confederate Railroad, Tanya Tucker, Joe Diffie and Steve Wariner and others. Dave Gibson is also an award winning Children's book author: CLICK THE TITLE of "War at the Ice Cream Store: Mustachio Pistachio vs Bully Vanilli". Recorded May 13, 2021 Episode Sponsored by: Surfshark and Passport America. FROM WIKIPEDIA: David Lowell Gibson is an American country music songwriter. Gibson has written songs for Alabama, Tanya Tucker, and others. Gibson was born in El Dorado, Arkansas and raised in Odessa, Texas before moving to Nashville, Tennessee in 1982. He held a publishing contract with a company owned by The Oak Ridge Boys. Between 1990 and 1994, Gibson was the frontman of the Gibson/Miller Band. List of songs written by Dave Gibson Gibson wrote or co-wrote the following songs: Alabama: "Jukebox in My Mind" Larry Boone: "Don't Give Candy to a Stranger" Confederate Railroad: "Queen of Memphis", "Daddy Never Was the Cadillac Kind" Joe Diffie: "Ships That Don't Come In" Gibson/Miller Band: "High Rollin'", "Texas Tattoo", "Red, White, and Blue Collar", "Stone Cold Country" James House: "That'll Be the Last Thing" Montgomery Gentry: "Lonely and Gone" Southern Pacific: "Honey I Dare You", "All Is Lost" Pam Tillis: "Do You Know Where Your Man Is" Tanya Tucker: "If It Don't Come Easy" Conway Twitty: "House on Old Lonesome Road" Steve Wariner: "Midnight Fire", "Don't You Give Up on Love", "Heart Trouble" Gibson/Miller Band was an American country music band founded in 1990 by Dave Gibson and Bill "Blue" Miller, the latter of whom was a former guest musician in rock musician Bob Seger's Silver Bullet Band. Both Gibson and Miller served as vocalists and guitarists in the Gibson/Miller Band, which also included Mike Daly (steel guitar), Bryan Grassmeyer (bass guitar), and Steve Grossman (drums). Grassmeyer was replaced in 1993 by Doug Kahan. Between 1992 and 1994, the Gibson/Miller Band recorded two albums for Epic Records, in addition to charting seven singles on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. After disbanding in 1994, both Gibson and Miller assumed solo careers. Gibson/Miller Band was formed in 1990, when Doug Johnson, then-vice president of Epic Records, introduced Dave Gibson and Blue Miller to each other, thinking that the two artists would work well together as songwriters. Among Gibson's cuts were "If It Don't Come Easy" by Tanya Tucker, "Ships That Don't Come In" by Joe Diffie and "Queen of Memphis" by Confederate Railroad. Gibson and Miller soon assembled a band and recorded a demo tape, which they sent to Johnson. By 1992, the band was signed to Epic Records; their debut single, "Big Heart", was released at the end of the year. In 1993, the group's first album, titled Where There's Smoke, was released. Counting "Big Heart", the album produced five chart singles overall, including the No. 20 "High Rollin'", their highest-charting. The Gibson/Miller Band also received the Academy of Country Music's award for Top New Vocal Duo or Group. A second album, Red, White & Blue Collar, was released in 1994. Serving as its lead-off single was a cover of Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson's "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys"; Gibson/Miller Band's version was also featured in the soundtrack for the 1994 film The Cowboy Way. Red, White & Blue Collar was less successful than its predecessor, however, and the Gibson/Miller Band was dropped from Epic's roster that same year, shortly before disbanding. Both Gibson and Miller continued to record solo, and as backing musicians for other artists. In 1997, Gibson married singer-songwriter Daisy Dern. https://www.facebook.com/hotcountrypodcast https://www.hotcountrypodcast.com https://www.facebook.com/OfficialChrisMcKay

As a boy in Detroit, Michigan, Rick Margitza’s mother asked him “do you want to hear a recording of your grandfather playing cello”? Then she put on the Charlie Parker with Strings album. After hearing Charlie Parker play, Rick knew that he wanted to be a jazz saxophone player. Margitza’s paternal grandfather, a Hungarian Gypsy violinist, taught him to play the violin at the age of four. His father also played violin with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (and recorded on classic Motown sessions). So it was almost inevitable that Rick would be a musician, and he was drawn to jazz. He loved the sound of what he calls “the white Jewish tenor player” school of playing: Michael Brecker, Steve Grossman, Dave Liebman, Bob Berg and (apparent honorary Jew) Jerry Bergonzi. Rick bounced around from music school to music school in his 20s, and ended up in New Orleans playing on the local scene and finishing school. He was thinking about moving to New York and wondering if it was already too late for that. His childhood friend and future record producer Matt Pierson (see Episode 5) encouraged Rick to make a demo tape before making the move, Rick obliged. That demo tape ended up moving a lot of history. Pierson played the tape for the president of Blue Note records, Bruce Lundvall, who signed Rick to a contract based on what he heard on the tape. Pierson also played the tape for Tommy LiPuma (see Episodes 33 and 69) who in turn played it for Miles Davis over the phone, and Miles hired Margitza on the spot based on what he heard on the tape. What was on that tape? Here Rick tells the story of what happened next, what it was like to be thrust into the jazz limelight overnight, working with Miles, moving to France, dividing the octave and choosing the right note. Thanks for listening. If you enjoyed it, please leave a review on iTunes and consider supporting the podcast on Patreon! And now you can also listen to the podcast on Spotify!
In terms of getting a mortgage, there are strong differences between a pre-qualification, a pre-approval, and a credit approval that you need to be aware of. Today I’m joined by Steve Grossman of New Jersey Lenders to explain these differences. A pre-qualification is simply when a loan officer interviews you over the phone, runs your credit, and gives you a letter verifying the amount you can qualify for. Other than checking your credit, everything else about your financial situation is conveyed verbally over the phone. “Having a credit approval is equal to having an all-cash offer.” A pre-approval is more thorough. To get pre-approved, you have to submit your W-2s, pay stubs, tax returns, and bank statements to the loan officer. Your credit is then fully reviewed and vetted by that loan officer. For a credit approval, you submit the same documents as you would with a pre-approval, your credit is run, the processor then processes the loan, and an underwriter reviews it. According to Steve, having a credit approval is equal to having an all-cash offer. The term “credit approval” isn’t brought up very often, but it’s what you should be looking for if you’re a buyer. In a multiple-offer situation, having a credit approval will make you the strongest buyer. If you’re a seller, you should also be looking for buyers with a full credit approval because that’s the best way to protect yourself during the transaction. If you have any more questions about this topic or you have any other real estate needs I can help you with, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’d be glad to help you.

Tonight begins a month of music that reflected some of the bands and the changes that were happening in Jazz music in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Rock and funk music and electric instruments were being absorbed into Jazz by various bands but the real mover and shaker was Miles Davis, whose music was undergoing a major transformation. Gone were the old tunes and the mainly acoustic instruments. The music of "Miles In The Sky", "Filles of Kilimanjaro", "In A Silent Way" and of course "Bitches Brew" were about the changes in Miles' music. The next step was to play those concepts with an increase in energy and volume and that is what tonight's Jazz Feature is about. It is a set recorded at the famous New York rock palace, Fillmore East, with his working band of 1970. Davis on open trumpet with a 19 year old wonder on tenor and soprano saxophones, Steve Grossman. Two great keyboard wizards are on board playing a variety of electric keyboards, Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea. Dave Holland on acoustic and electric bass, Jack DeJohnette on drums and Airto Moreira on percussion, flute and vocal. This is a complete and unedited set as played at the Fillmore East and points at future directions by the mercurial Mr. Davis. Check it out tonight and tune in on successive shows in April for more of the early happenings in what became known as "fusion".

Miles Davis and his band which he called "Directions" was at this time playing music alongside some of the great rock stars of the day. Davis' music had changed and he was using electric instruments and some rock elements as well and had dropped the standards and tunes like "Walkin'" and "So What" from his repertoire. The music here is an extension of the concepts found on "Bitches Brew" (his best selling album). The band includes Mr. Davis on trumpet(open and unenhanced by electronics), Steve Grossman on soprano and tenor saxophone, Keith Jarrett on electric organ, Chick Corea on electic piano,Dave Holland on electric bass, Jack DeJohnette on drums and Airto Moreira on percussion, flute and voice. The music is intense and powerful and although this music has been issued before this new reissue removes the edits and we get the full evening's performance. Hence the full evening of music as performed at Fillmore East in New York on June 19,1970. A powerhouse band!
This episode features music from Abbey Lincoln with Pat Metheny, Bard Mehldau, Elliot Mason, The Brian Blade Fellowship, Herbie Hancock with Headhunters, and Elvin Jones with Steve Grossman and Dave Leibman.
This great album and concept comes from the ever changing musical mind of Miles Davis, a man who not only was one of the most individual stylists of the trumpet but a man who constantly altered his music to make it fresh and new not only for him but his followers. Sometimes he lost his followers as they could not adapt to his changes but he always gained new ones. This album is from his early 70's period and he was using electric instruments like electric piano and electric guitar and also utilizing some of the concepts of funk and rock. He was playing his trumpet acoustically on this date and was in good form and healthy. The people involved in this tribute are Davis on trumpet, Steve Grossman and soprano saxophone,Herbie Hancock on keyboards, John McLaughlin on guitar, Michael Henderson on electric bass, Billy Cobham on drums. Two lengthy compositions are heard and all of this music was heard on the documentary film on the life of one of Miles Davis' heros, the first African-American Heavyweight Champion of the World,Jack Johnson. The music was conceived and recorded in 1970 and as Davis stated, the music should have gotten more acclaim than it did at the time. Tonight we relive that musical experience.
This amazing music was recorded in performance at New York's "Fillmore East", which was at the time primarily a rock venue. Miles Davis had entered his post "Bitches Brew" stage and was entering his new phase and a very new context for his creativity. Miles always moved forward, according to his artistic muse and gone were the standards, and tunes like "Milestones", "So What", "All Blues" etc. His new music featured more electric instruments and was governed more rhythmically by rock and funk. His trumpet work was brilliant in this new context but that very context alienated a lot of his audience but gained many new listeners. This set was recorded in June of 1970 and presents very well edited performances that were pared down to the essence by Miles and his producer, Teo Macero. They captured the best moments from two sets that actually lasted over one hour and they were cut to fit the LP format at 22 to 25 minutes. The people in Miles' band included Mr. Davis and Steve Grossman on tenor and mostly soprano saxophone, Keith Jarrett on organ and keyboards and Chick Corea on Rhodes electric piano and keyboards, Dave Holland on electric and acoustic bass, Jack DeJohnette on drums and Airto Moriera on percussion. There are many melodies segued in these two sets and the music is intense and "balls to the wall". Miles and company are smokin'!!!!
