On Richard Rorty's Pragmatism As Anti-Authoritarianism (1997), ch. 1-2 about religion. Should democracy be defended on absolutist grounds, e.g. by reference to God-given or natural rights, the nature of Man, or the dictates of Reason? Rorty says no! Democracy, ethics, and even truth itself are a matter for societies to decide for themselves. Monotheistic religion provides a negative model for ceding authority on these matters no something non-human. Get more at partiallyexaminedlife.com. Sean Pero is a Druze pro MMA fighter from Israel. The Druze are an ethnic group with their own Monotheistic religion which has principles and traditions similar to Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Their primary language is Arabic and have communities in Israel, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. Most of the Israeli Druze are proud Israeli citizens who serve in mostly combat roles in the IDF and often take positions in elite IDF and police units. The Druze are an integral part of Israeli society, have given their lives for the security of Israel and have a very strong relationship with Jewish Israelis. Sean and I primarily discussed MMA during our first episode together but this time, I wanted to talk to Sean about his feelings on the tragic rocket attack which killed 12 children on a soccer field in the northern village of Majdal Shams. At least one of the children injured in the attack is a family member of Sean's so this unfortunate incident is of course very personal to him. We discussed the tragic day, his feelings, how the community is handling it and what may happen going forward with the current war of attrition with Hezbollah. SUBSCRIBE, LIKE, AND SHARE!

Hello listener, and welcome! This episode got a little bit out of hand. Treating of the MCU's metaphysical maneuvering, we had to go deep into the bad air of ressentiment... Availing ourselves to Nietzsche, which sounds reasonable, had unfortunately gone to Sagi's head, who proceeded to channel the poor moustached genius throughout. And then a hammer became involved... Unfortunate. We are reverse-engineering perhaps the most cathartic moment of the MCU (phase 3 at least) -- where, in Avengers: Endgame, Captain America finally wields Thor's hammer, Mjolnir  -- and hopefully ruin it for everybody. We see a textbook example of Monotheistic ressentiment/slave-morality, whewre the symbol of pagan power undergoes, like Thor, a systematic humiliation, an infection, as a way  to prepare it to be "aufgehoben" into a Monotheistic value-system. The disease has two foci of corruption: for one, it is now tied to will rather than only the act; in the myths, Thor's hammer was indeed a boomerang, but could not be "summoned" -- by "force" of will -- like a Jedi does a lightsaber. Second, after Odin strips Thor of his power (for doing exactly what original Thor would do), he infects the hammer, and Thor's power, with  a western category of 'worth,' which then leads Thor on a journey where he learns to think like the weak, to alienate himself from his home and people so as to learn that "all life matters"...So by the time Captain America -- America's pure-of-heart, a-sexual, fight-for-justice eugenics experiment/prototype (but not a Nazi!) -- wields Mjolnir, the systematic usurpation of pagan power/valuation is complete, with no remainder. This is not new, but an old tradition, I daresay the 'western' tradition, at least since Thomas Aquinas. And the catharsis of the moment proves this fantasy is still lodged deep in the western psyche.Of course there's a lot more to unpack here, but I don't want to ruin it for you; tune-in, dear masochist! Hear Jake fail miserably at a Zizek accent! Empathize with Jack's PTSD (after being subjected to an Avengers amusement park)! Be edified by Andrew's lifelong crusade on homophobia! Fun for the whole family!!The stars that deigned to be tossed this time were, for the most part: What  Would Jesus Do; Il vaut mieux Lyotard que jamais; and Beast and Sovereign.

"In everyday life, we non-theists may find ourselves in discussions with theists. Have you noticed that these discussions often go around in circles and achieve nothing? Why is that? Let me suggest that one reason is because we are using their framework in which to discuss and argue. In this article, I will explore some practical ways to stay out of their framework. Who says they have the sole right to define the terms of engagement? For this discussion, we will focus on monotheism, but other areas might be just as interesting. Many modern-day theists seem to consider the so-called monotheistic nature of their religions as a sign of legitimacy, at least when compared to other openly polytheistic religions. The gods of ancient Greece and Rome were many, each with their own unique powers and niches in the nether world. It is no problem to see these as polytheistic religions but interestingly it is almost as easy to identify so-called monotheistic religions as polytheistic. If we expose the propaganda of these religions by challenging this key concept, we shift the frame, and open the door for a different kind of discussion. We don't have to acquiesce to their definitions of their invisible friends. Let's explore. To be a monotheistic religion, a religion must have only one god in its lexicon. Zeus may have been the highest and most powerful god in the Greek pantheon, but he was certainly joined by many other lesser gods. In Christian mythology, the gods are no less than four, sometimes more. The Father, Son, Holy Ghost and Satan are certainly gods. For whatever the Christian apologist wants to say, these four certainly function as much like individual gods as any Greek gods. The Yahweh figure may be more powerful than the Son, Satan or Holy Ghost, but so too was Zeus or Thor. All move in mysterious ways and while three are allied against one, so too were there alliances among Greek and Norse gods. In addition, Catholics have Mary, who seems to have special powers and access to the other gods in remarkable ways. Then we have all the saints of both Catholic and Orthodox traditions. How convenient that each of them seems to have special powers, not unlike the demigods and lesser gods of other polytheistic religions." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

There can be little doubt that our twenty-first century civilization is facing economic, ecological and spiritual meltdown. In this intriguing new book, Lucy Wyatt takes a highly original and relevant look at just what we can do to reverse this very real and potentially disastrous situation. The product of some ten years of comprehensive and passionate research, Approaching Chaos urges us to take a good look way back beyond those societies always admired as the first civilized examples, to re-think accepted accounts and concepts of history and go back over 5,000 years to focus on the Bronze Age civilizations. Nearly always considered to be both primitive and pagan, Lucy Wyatt reveals them to be in many ways extraordinarily sophisticated, well-rounded and highly successful infrastructures that combine the spiritual and the practical. She ardently believes that from them the ancient Greeks and Romans actually learnt and, even more pertinently, we can learn a tremendous amount that has been disregarded for far too long. In taking a fresh look at, amongst other things, the origins of farming and urbanisation, the extraordinary way that the Egyptians used metaphysics, ultrasound and alchemy, the rise of Monotheistic religion and Christianity, Lucy Wyatt presents a brave and compelling over-view of ancient history. We have to silence the monkeys in our heads, otherwise the ego will drive us crazy. All day long the head cinema runs, constantly new thoughts are played, there to come to rest seems impossible. Some people have already reached the next stage, the monkeys in the head have become a threat to mental health, many of the mental illnesses go back to the original head cinema. Sure, if "one" thinks about everything like this, then one can already "start to ponder", the destiny of man is not easy, everything will be lost by "one" one day, nothing can be kept, every living being and every thing is transient. We are all going to die, nothing we can do about it, so why do anything at all, better to get drowsy, just don't think about it, just numb yourself. That's how you might think, yes. But there are other approaches, how "one" can spend the life, to each little animal its Plaisierchen. But no matter how we occupy ourselves, deep down we can't stop thinking about the meaning of life. What happens to me after death is a very important question, but also "where do I come from", "where am I going" keeps popping up in the mind palace. Monotheistic religions have their beliefs, which you just have to believe. Buddhism is different, because the teachings of Buddha leave little "to believe" here, but everything needs a beginning. No matter how one stands to religion or spirituality, the monkeys in the head must be silenced. Here it is advisable to take a general "day of silence" once, in order to pull the brake, to make the own personality once familiar with the whole problem. Could you do that, be silent for a whole day? Well, nuns or monks in Buddhist monasteries are silent for years in some cases, so yes, it is doable to not speak for a day. If you have your problems with the monkeys in your head, then make the effort with the "day of silence", I promise you that you will achieve great success. Such a day needs preparation, especially if you do not live alone. Talk to those around you about this special occasion, explain to those around you how important the endeavor is to you, why you want to try it, what the motivations are. Others are usually understanding if they know what is going on. Turn off the phone and the doorbell, and if you can, the TV and the radio. On this day, read that book you've been meaning to read. The way is the goal! Apply your mind to everything, and when you have analyzed it and found it good for you and everyone else, then you can believe in it, live by it and help your neighbor to live by it too - Buddha - honorary name of Siddharta Gautama - 560 to 480 before the year zero Copyright: https://shaolin-rainer.de (Please also download my app "Buddha-Blog English" from the Apple and Android stores)

#121 Indigenous spirituality: pantheistic or monotheistic? - with Cheryl Bear

Singer & songwriter Cheryl Bear has spent decades reflecting on the intersection of Christian faith and First Nation culture. How does the indigenous understanding of the Creator overlap with the Christian understanding of God? Is indigenous spirituality monotheistic? How has the historical treatment of indigenous people impacted the gospel today? And how does Jesus enter into and redeem cultural narratives––indigenous, western, or otherwise? Don't miss this thought-provoking conversation. To learn more about Regent College and our upcoming Fall courses, visit www.regent-college.edu.

Ps Darin Browne @ Ignite Christian Church

1. Christianity is Monotheistic, which means we believe in only one true God, not three Gods.Isaiah 43:10-11 - “You are My witnesses,” says the Lord, “And My servant whom I have chosen, That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the Lord, And besides Me there is no savior. Isaiah 44:6 - “Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God.Deuteronomy 6:4 - “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!Whenever you see the word “LORD” or “GOD” in all capital letters in your English Bible, it is to distinguish it from the generic Hebrew word for God or Lord (Master). LORD is recorded in place of the Hebrew consonants YHWH, which is often pronounced Yahweh or Jehovah. This is the divine name of God and appears over 6,500 times in the Old Testament. Yahweh alone is God. 2. The two foundations that make Yahweh unique is that he is eternal and he is the creator. HE IS THE UNCREATED CREATOR, which is why we worship Him. 3. Psalm 90:2 - Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.Psalm 95:6 - Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.God alone created the universe. No one else helped him create the world. Isaiah 45:18 - For thus says the Lord, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: “I am the Lord, and there is no other.”Isaiah 44:24 – Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: “I am the Lord, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself, 4. Yahweh alone created humanity, but there was more than one person involved.Genesis 1:1-2 - “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Genesis 1:26-27 - Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; … 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.Genesis 2:7 - “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” 5. Prior to his incarnation, Jesus was Yahweh who created the universe.John 1:1-3, 14 - 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made… 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.Colossians 1:15-18 - “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the supremacy.” (Col. 1:15-18) 6. But how can Jesus be Yahweh in human flesh when Jesus said, “I can of myself do nothing” (John 5:30), and “My father is greater than I” (John 14:28)? Jesus relied on the Father in prayer for his whole life on earth, so how can he be God? Jesus willingly became a servant when he took on our humanity.Philippians 2:5-8 - Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.John 6:38 - “I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” 7. Prior to the creation of the world, and prior to his existence on earth, Jesus existed in heaven with the Father and shared the glory of Yahweh. John 17:5 - And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.Isaiah 42:8 - I am the Lord, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images.” 8. The prophet Isaiah saw the glory of Jesus prior to his incarnation. John 12:41 - These things Isaiah said when he saw His glory and spoke of Him.Isaiah 6:1-3 - In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” 9. After his resurrection, Jesus ascended back into heaven, and he is again sharing the glory of Yahweh and being worshiped by angels.Revelation 5:11-14 - 11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!” 13 And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: “Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!” 14 Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever. 10. The whole Bible proclaims Jesus as Yahweh and Saviour. John 5:39 – Jesus said, “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.”- In Psalm 23, Yahweh is our shepherd. In John 10, Jesus is the good shepherd of the sheep of Israel who gives them eternal life. “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.” (John 10:33). See also John 5:18 – “Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.”- All four Gospel writers claim that John the Baptist was preparing the way for Yahweh (Jesus). Isaiah 40:3 – “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the Lord; Make straight in the desert a highway for our God.” Matthew 3:3; Mark 1:1-3; Luke 3:4-6; John 1:23.-- We are witnesses of Yahweh, and the name of Jesus brings salvation. Acts 1:8 – Jesus said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” However, Isaiah 43:10-11 10 “You are My witnesses,” says the Lord, “And My servant whom I have chosen, That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me.11 I, even I, am the Lord, And besides Me there is no savior.” – See also Joel 2:32; Acts 2:21; 4:12; Romans 10:13. Jesus is the name that brings salvation because Jesus is Yahweh.- Jesus is “the first and the last”, which is an Old Testament title of Yahweh. See Isaiah 44:6; Revelation 1:17-18; 22:12-17…………………………………………………………………………………………………Who is the Holy Spirit?1. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Yahweh. Isaiah 61:1 - “The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” See also, Matthew 3:16-17.2. The Holy Spirit is separate from the Father and the Son.2 Corinthians 13:14 – “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.”John 16:13 – “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.”3. In order to prove personhood, the Holy Spirit must be shown to have personal attributes such as a mind, will, emotions, actions and communication.4. The Holy Spirit can be grieved – Ephesians 4:30 – “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”5. The Holy Spirit can be insulted. Hebrews 10:29 – “Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?”6. The Holy Spirit can be lied to. Acts 5:3-4 - But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”7. The Holy Spirit can speak and issue commands. Acts 8:29 – “Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.” Acts 13:2 – “As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”8. The Holy Spirit is the one who decides who receives various gifts of the Spirit. 1 Cor. 12:11 - “But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”9. The Holy Spirit makes prayerful intercession for the saints according to the will of Yahweh. Romans 8:26-27 - 26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.10. The Holy Spirit teaches. John 14:26 – “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”11. The Holy Spirit is in relationship and communication with the Church. Acts 15:28 – “For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:” For further information on the Trinity, I recommend the book “The Forgotten Trinity”, by James R. Approaching Chaos - Could an Ancient Archetype save 21st Century Civilization : Could an Ancient Archetype save 21st Century Civilization? - There can be little doubt that our twenty-first century civilization is facing economic, ecological and spiritual meltdown. Approaching Chaos challenges long accepted thinking on the origins of civilization and uncovers many illuminating insights into how we could help ourselves today. - http://www.approachingchaos.co.uk/

After nearly 40 years of teaching religion, Robert Millet still had some questions regarding the Holy Ghost. For example, how does our doctrine regarding the Holy Ghost differentiate The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from other religions? Or what does the right to constant companionship of the Spirit really look like? It was this curiosity that led him to begin researching and eventually writing his latest book, “The Holy Spirit." On today’s episode, he shares the unique insights he found along the way.  "Something as fundamental as God and Christ and the Holy Ghost really just cannot remain a mystery. 'This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent' (John 17:3). If it's life eternal to know God, heaven help us if we don't even have the means of coming to know God because God is in some ways pushed off the stage, because Jesus takes center stage." When a bowl of soup meant for Nanahara is poisoned it breeds mistrust in them, resulting in a massacre. Nanahara survives by being locked in the upstairs bedroom of the lighthouse. The girl who is responsible for the poisoning is Yuko Sakaki.   None understand Yuko Sakaki more so than her parents. At home her mother looks at her photo album, the father is watching TV in the hope of seeing his daughter survive. When a horror movie appears on TV he switches it off. A force of habit due to Yuko’s nervous nature and belief in the devil. Her parents have had to deal with Yuko’s trauma of seeing boys fight in her class, knowing that she is now in a genocidal program has forced their denial to turn to grief.   With 9 contestants left, Nanahara makes his way downstairs and confronts the paranoid and frightened Yuko Sakaki. She runs off upstairs to escape Nanahara, stopping to fire at him. Whilst at the top the recoil of her gun causes her to fall. Nanahara rescues Sakaki before she experiences an epithany. Having believed that Nanahara was a demon, she realises that her inner demons, her paranoia, have caused her to hurt the ones she loves. She jumps from the lighthouse, choosing suicide.   After giving the recently passed girls at the lighthouse their dues, Nanahara leaves to search for Noriko and Kawada. He meets Izuno Inada, he can’t save her, she is delirious and is playing the game on her own private terms. Nanahara manages to flee but Inada’s paranoid schizophrenia has her now worshipping a god.   Nanahara travels through the woods and recalls all the people he has seen die. His survivor guilt takes its toll when he comes across the bodies of Keita Ijima, Yutaka and Mimura. He learns of the fight with Kiriyama, the microphones in the collars, the bomb that was made and the confidence that Yutaka gained in the end.   When Nanahara finally meets Noriko and Kawada he sees that the 3 of them are all they have to rely on. Noriko who so loves Nanahara has drawn a sketch of him in his absence. Meanwhile Izuno Inada has stripped down to her underwear and has made a sigil for her god, a deluded belief that it will protect her from all harm and bestow divination on her. Waiting for her prayers to be answered, Kazuo Kiriyama comes forth and provides a bullet to her thoughts.   35 down, 6 to go.     Instagram –  weappreciatemanga.co.uk Twitter - @RealJamesFitton Website – Weappreciatemanga.com Email – Weappreciatemanga@gmail.com

We talk about the establishment of temple religion and the historical experience of empires...

Rabbi Haim Ovadia, rabbi of Magen David Sephardic Congregation (http://www.magendavidsephardic.org/)in suburban Washington DC presents his lecture "Why Are There No Reform or Conservative Sephardic Movements" before an audience at Temple Solel (www.templesolel.org/) in Paradise Valley, AZ. ABOUT THIS LECTURE: The different cultures and religious approaches of Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews are products of over a thousand years of living under the rule of two opposing religions, Islam and Christianity. Though both religions, as well as Judaism, are often bundled together as the Monotheistic or Abrahamic religions, there are fundamental differences between them. For better or worse, the unique characteristics of each dominant religion shaped the lives, cultures, and theology of its Jews. The rift which started thousands of years ago, has deepened after the emancipation in Europe, as religious leaders in the Ashkenazi world retreated into a spiritual ghetto, while Sephardic kept a vibrant and innovative legal approach. The lecture will review some of the influences of Islam and Christianity on Judaism, will track the path of Halakhic innovation over the centuries, and will explain why the Sephardic world appears to be more homogeneous than the Ashkenazi world. Aired Tuesday, 2 January 2018, 5:00 PM EST 7 Words That Can Change The World Can A Simple Idea Coalesce A Movement of Movements? A Conversation With Author Joe Simonetta “Of course Jesus believed in evolution. Otherwise he would have said, ‘Now don’t do a thing till I get back’.” — Swami Beyondananda At a time when “reality” is up for grabs, and the chasm between competing worldviews in this country seems almost unbridgeable, could there possibly be a unifying thought, idea, human aspiration that can unite us? Architect, author, and Harvard Divinity School graduate Joe Simonetta thinks so, and he has boiled it down to seven simple words. No, I won’t tell you what those words are. You’ll have to tune in to find out. I will tell you, they are NOT the seven words that George Carlin said cannot be said on the air! In Spontaneous Evolution, Bruce Lipton and I recognized that our world was caught between two competing paradigms, neither of which by itself could take us through the current “existential crisis” of our species. Whether we acknowledge it or not, our species is currently in the question, “do we continue to exist, or not?” Perched atop the “endangering species” list, and the list of endangered species as well, either we seize the time today and evolve into a wise, coherent, sane and integrated species — or else our time will be seized from us. The two competing paradigms — monotheistic religion and scientific materialism — each simultaneously hold key pieces to the puzzle, and yet are in other ways obsolete, and “obsolethal.” Monotheistic religion with its off-planet God, patriarchal and hierarchical system, has condemned our species as “original sinners.” (If you think this is no longer the case consider that one-time Catholic priest Matthew Fox was first silenced and then ex-communicated for writing a book, Original Blessing.) On the other side of the religious secular divide, we have scientific materialism that insists that only the material world is “real”, and that has given us technology with no morality. Those scientists who acknowledge the ineffable and invisible that every human has observed for themselves (think about someone flashing into your mind, and having that person call a few minutes later) are branded as “quacks”. That’s why Rupert Sheldrake’s TED talk was banned (https://youtu.be/JKHUaNAxsTg) and why neither Bruce Lipton nor I were EVER interviewed on NPR. Meanwhile, there IS an evolutionary upwising, as integral thinkers recognize that each stage of evolution “includes and transcends” prior stages. That means we take the value from each prior meme, and weave it into a new and more complete awareness. This is why Joe Simonetta’s (http://7wordschangetheworld.com/author/) work has such potential in these evolutionary times. His simple prescription for a world of thrival for each and all is based simultaneously on the fundamental awareness “under-truthing” all religious and moral thought, AND can be shown to work by observation, without need for an invisible off-planet God. Writes Joe in his book, 7 Words That Can Change The World, “Sacredness is not about a Supreme Being. It’s about a way of being.” In an information age when we are overwhelmed by content, this might just be the context we have been seeking. Please join us for an enlightening conversation to start the New Year, and maybe a new world.

Christianity & Classical Culture Ep3: Is Christianity Simply 1 of the Great Monotheistic Religions?

What do we mean when we say “the great monotheistic religions”? Can we even grant the premise of the question? How can we reconcile admiration for classical culture, which was polytheistic, with the practice of Christianity, which is monotheistic? How did the early Christian fathers, including St. Augustine and Tertullian, examine this tension between Athens and Jerusalem? Can we argue that the timing of the Incarnation allowed for the Church to derive maximum benefit from Roman law and government and Greek philosophy? Dr. Thomas Fleming and host Stephen Heiner examine these and many other questions on this month's episode.
