In this episode, I talk with someone who took her pre-existing knowledge in Corporate America, mixed it with a real life situation she had in her own life with her daughter, and used the subscription model to launch her idea to subscription domination.  I talk with none other than Deana Hicks, Owner and Founder of One Girl Inspired! I had the privilege of being introduced to Deana by a mutual friend, and alumni of The Subscription Box Show, super connector Kenny Kahn of Taptivate, so shout out to Kenny and the team doing great things at Taptivate. Deana Hicks is the Founder & Chief Inspiration Officer of One Girl Inspired, a monthly subscription for teen and tween girls ages 12-16years old.One Girl Inspired provides girls with tools and positive messaging that inspires,empower and motivate them believe in themselves, aspire to dream big, be their best selves, and one day make their own mark on the world. Before starting One Girl Inspired, Deana spent 20+ years in Marketing, helped build and launch multiple brands and start-ups, ran a corporate non-profit and even created and directed a music business camp for teens. Being a mom to a teen daughter, which is her true inspiration, led Deana to start One Girl Inspired. In this very special milestone episode, which is episode 50 of The Subscription Box Show, I have brought on my coach and mentor, Travis Chappell!Travis host's a top 25 business podcast called Build Your network where he's interviewed literally everyone in the business space, from Ed Mylett, Grant Cardone, John Maxwell, Tom Bilyeu, Amy Porterfield, JP Sears, Trent Shelton, Pat Flynn, Cole Hatter and has now over 400+ more episodes.  His guest list is second to none.  Travis has been featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, Bigger Pockets, EOFire, Nasdaq and was named as a top ten podcast you have to listen to by none other than Joe Rogan.Travis will show you the importance of building your own network, the right way.  Networking is important in any business, no different in our industry.  There's a wrong way of networking, and Travis will tell you why who you know is more important than what you know.I first heard about Travis back in April of 2019 after John Lee Dumas politely declined my request for him to coach me.  I was pretty disappointed.  I really love everything JLD puts out there, and I really wanted him to coach me.  He did however give me something at the time I didn't know would change my life.  He gave me an intro to someone I had never heard of, but that he had coached himself.  He said, go and give Travis Chappell a listen, and get a hold of him while you still can.  Trusting JLD's recommendation, I immediately started to consume Travis's Podcast, Build Your Network...and voraciously.  I reached out to him shortly after and the rest is history.  I took his course, Explode you Network, then joined his Mastermind, went to his inaugural live event, and finally purchased his VIP coaching ticket. It was definitely the scariest investment in myself I had ever done, but also the most rewarding.  Fast forward one calendar year later, and I launched my first podcast. Episode 043 - Scott Fulbright - Living Ink - Using Sustainable Resources For Your Box

On this episode, I have the pleasure to talk with Scott Fulbright, Co-Founder and CEO at Living Ink Technologies.Living Ink is a biomaterials company on a mission to use sustainable algae technologies to replace petroleum-derived products, such as ink. Living Ink are changing the way pigments are made by using algae as colorants for eco friendly Algae Ink™ products. In 2013, when Scott was a student at Colorado State University, it was brought to his attention that the majority of printing ink used in the world was produced from toxic petroleum products.  So today Living Ink is commercializing a black algae-based pigment that has a negative carbon footprint, bio-based, resistant to UV-light exposure and is safe.  In layman's terms, the process developed uses algae (yes- the tiny aquatic plant) instead of heavy petroleum oil.The company has since raised $1.5M from the National Science Foundation, and has received numerous honors from the U.S. Department of Energy, University of Colorado, Colorado State University, Biofuels Digest and Hello Tomorrow Challenge.Prior to Living Ink, Scott spent the last 12 years in the algae bioproducts industry, where he led research and development projects in both industry and academia. His research was directed at understanding the scale-up process in algae cultivation for biofuels and bioproducts.
