We're back with another awesome show, chatting with Travis Chappell, host of Build Your Network Podcast and creator of Guestio. Travis is a guy that we could have easily chatted with for another hour and what came out of this show was way better than we anticipated. We discussed how to get the big name guests on your show, how to interact with them and encourage them to share the show afterward, how to network and build relationships with them, and how to create big events with past guests. He's got a great philosophy when it comes to networking and while there's a lot of things you can't track such as the shoutouts from people you collaborate with, there's also a lot of intangible benefits that happen down the road, such as investing, referrals, and advisory relationships. We love his idea of hosting dinners and bringing people together and we also love how he created his own reality for success as he used to live in a bubble growing up. Travis discussed his research methods and how he has put hours into it before the guest shows up, noting some key things to pick up on, so you can chat about the things which will make your guest light up. After you have enjoyed this show, check out the chats we referenced with Jordan Harbinger and Luis Diaz for even more ideas on how to network with the people you want in your circle and growth hack your podcast up the charts. “It was the first time in my life that I had actually taken a pay cut to do something different, but I just knew it was something I was meant to be doing.” - Travis Chappell   Some Topics We Discussed Include: Our recent thoughts on ClubHouse Starting from nothing with no contacts Giving your guests a reason to share the show with their audience Why having a podcast is like getting a free education How to navigate the conversation to get unique content out of your guests A unique follow up process for past gets that adds a boatload of value The new platform that makes it easy to connect with podcasts and filter out the podcasters who are less serious Examples of questions to ask your guests that stand out from the usual, boring topics How to get over the fear of reaching out to big-name guests   Resources From Travis Chappell: Guestio Build Your Network Podcast TravisChappell.com   References and Links Mentioned: PodHacker $2 MILLION in 12 Months, The Price of Mr. Beast's Success PodHacker.com/news Noah Kagan's interview with Lewis Howes Don't forget to subscribe and leave a review and if we read your review on the episode, we'll send you a free shirt! He has spent about $170,000 on self-improvement for his business over the last couple of years. Travis asked himself what the alternative would have been had he not joined this Mastermind, and he couldn’t come up with any less expensive alternative. Because analysts predict another recession soon, Travis knows he’ll have to lean on his relationships. Value time over money. It will always take you longer to do something by yourself than it will if you find the right people to build relationships. Once he had his son, Travis realized it was the right time to take a big risk to make his dreams come true so he knows his son will never see him regret it.    3 Key Points: Ask yourself what the alternative would be if you didn’t take a risk you’re considering taking. Travis shares how he learned from leaving a bad first impression with a high performer millionaire in his industry. Talk across to people, not up to them. Respect people’s time. Don’t ask the first questions that occur to you. Look for ways to add value for the other person. 3 Key Points: Talk across to people, because talking up to them will subconsciously position you as being at a lower level. You won’t create a relationship with someone after one meeting. All of these tips are ways to make sure you are respecting people’s time, which will make you more memorable. Tweetable Quotes: “If it’s the first through fifth question that came up into your head, it’s probably something that somebody has asked them in the last 24 hours. Travis Chappell, host of the Build Your Network Podcast and a Top 25 Business Podcaster speaks with Jason A. Duprat, Entrepreneur, Healthcare Practitioner and Host of the Healthcare Entrepreneur Academy Podcast. Travis talks about how entrepreneurs should ditch their fears of networking and they can build authentic relationships. He also shares his insight and experience for launching a successful podcast.     Episode Highlights:  Where did Travis grow up and how did he transition into entrepreneurship and become an expert in networking? Travis always had an entrepreneurial itch - it started when he owned a landscaping business in high school. At one point, he was on the path to full-time ministry but realized he wanted to actually be in sales. How did Travis get into his first sales position and what did he sell?  He describes cultivating the feeling of exclusivity and how to consider your tonality and facial expressions when it comes to sales. Travis listened to self-development podcasts and was inspired by John Lee Dumas.  If you're not willing to invest in yourself or your business, then it's going to be much more difficult.  How did he get the idea to launch a podcast? 90% of podcasters don’t make it past the eleventh episode. Travis recommends taking beginning podcasting courses before launching your own show. He also recommends 1:1 podcast coaching or podcast consulting. Ask yourself: What are you expecting out of the show and invest accordingly. If you have a large business already, podcasting will amplify your message and build customer relationships.  When it comes to his business, what are the different ways he’s monetizing? How did Travis get connected with high-level people? How did he provide value to his mentor? Adding value is doing kind things for other people without expecting an immediate return or any return.  Relationships are built through memories and experiences.   3 Key Points: Add value as much as you can to the top 1% of people in your industry.  Travis knew if he wanted to succeed in podcasting, he needed to be around someone who had risen to a high level of success. If you want to turn your podcast into a business, treat it like a business. Tweetable Quotes: "You don't have to reinvent the wheel. You’ve got to get around people who have figured it out and do what they say." – Travis Chappell “People severely underestimate what it takes to gain an audience.” – Travis Chappell “Connect with the top 1% in your industry. Dr. Mark Wade, Brendan Kane, and David Meltzer share their advice for better relationship-building, how not to be that annoying person at industry events, and why you need to be adding value first and foremost.  Episode Highlights:  Travis Chappell introduces the accomplishments of Dr. Mark Wade, Brendan Kane, and David Meltzer. Why is networking so important to Dr. Mark Kane?  Relationships should be a value exchange.   What awkward experiences has Mark gone through with other people?  How did Brendan Kane get started in the entertainment industry?  How has making connections led to a bigger career opportunity?  Brendan shares how he connected with Taylor Swift.  Why does Brendan hate the term ‘networking?’ Think before you speak.  David Meltzer shares the two most important questions to ask for relationship-building.  Does David believe that who you know is more important than what you know? Is there a way that rubs David the wrong way when people try to connect with him?  What are the four ways to network?  3 Key Points: Always be relationship building and building upwards beyond your level.  Networking is about providing value to someone, not extracting something out of them.  Put faith in the future instead of putting faith in the past.  Tweetable Quotes: “You are either adding value or you are not.” – Dr. Mark Wade “Everything I do is connections-based. It is how I have had success over the course of my career, forging strong connections and providing value to those connections.” – Brendan Kane “There are two questions to build a relationship, one: starting with ‘how can I be of service? Provide value. Two: ask for help. Do you know anyone who can help me with this?” – David Meltzer Resources Mentioned:  Visit Travis’ website at Buildyournetwork.co (http://www.buildyournetwork.co/)   Join the Build Your Network Facebook group BYN.media/fb (https://www.facebook.com/groups/byncommunity/) Join the Build Your Network University Facebook group here byn.university (https://www.facebook.com/login/?next=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fgroups%2Fbynuniversity) Leave a rating and review for the Build Your Network Podcast on iTunes (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/build-your-network/id1268488944) Watch Travis’ free masterclass on how to build the network of your dreams at threenetworkingsecrets.com (https://threenetworkingsecrets.com/webinar-registration30876682) Get equity-free investments from Clearbanc at clearbanc.com/travis (https://www.20mintermsheet.com/?utm_source=travis&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=pod2) Try ZipRecruiter for free at ziprecruiter.com/byn (https://www.ziprecruiter.com/byn) Download the Himalaya App in the Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ximalaya.ting.himalaya&hl=en_US) Dr. Mark Wade: acast.com/privacy (https://www.acast.com/privacy)

This is the second part of the interview with Joel Marion, the co-founder and CMO of BioTrust Nutrition, with over $600 million in sales. In this section, Joel Marion shares how he transitioned from teaching in high school into the business that he runs now, how he connected with some of the top marketers in his space to achieve his many magnificent milestones, and how he scaled his supplement company from zero dollars to $100 million in sales in the first full calendar year. Joel also grew his email list from zero to 20 million subscribers, and an additional one up to 3 million subscribers.  Episode Highlights:  Travis Chappell introduces the accomplishments of Joel Marion. What are the best practices for building a large email list?  How do you create a good lead magnet?  Scale happens from cracking the ‘viral’ code or by paying for traffic. What is more important: what you know or who you know? Joel Marion got to know the top 20 vendors on ClickBank in his category. Be a likable person and work your way into important people’s lives by adding value. Many members of Joel’s business circle have transitioned into personal friends. What other professions would Joel like to get into?  If he could talk to anyone, dead or alive, who would Joel want to talk to?  How does he like to consume content?  Study what is working.  About 8 years ago, Joel made between $5,000-$6,000 per email send for his supplements with an email list of over $200,000. Does Joel have a morning routine?  Joel says he is good at making a list of things that will move the needle and getting them crossed off.  What is his go-to pump-up songs?  Is there something that Joel feels he is not good at?  3 Key Points: Nobody is signing up for a free newsletter at this point. It is way oversaturated.  Business is all relationships. You even have to build relationships with your customers. The launch of Joel’s health and fitness product led to becoming the largest launch in fitness history at that time, doing $350,000-$450,000. Tweetable Quotes: “Nobody wants to be on another email list. Period. But, if you’ve got a good enough ‘ethical bribe’ on the front and a ‘lead magnet’ then people will still give you their email address.” – Joel Marion “I knew the business that I was getting into, which was healthy and fitness publishing. So, I went to the largest marketplace for health and fitness publishers, which was ClickBank, ClickBank.com.” – Joel Marion “Your knowledge is useless unless you have people to support that.” – Joel Marion Resources Mentioned:  Visit Travis’ website at Buildyournetwork.co (http://www.buildyournetwork.co/)   Join the Build Your Network Facebook group BYN.media/fb (https://www.facebook.com/groups/byncommunity/) Join the Build Your Network University Facebook group here byn.university (https://www.facebook.com/login/?next=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fgroups%2Fbynuniversity) Leave a rating and review for the Build Your Network Podcast on iTunes (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/build-your-network/id1268488944) Watch Travis’ free masterclass on how to build the network of your dreams at threenetworkingsecrets.com (https://threenetworkingsecrets.com/webinar-registration30876682) Get equity-free investments from Clearbanc at clearbanc.com/travis (https://www.20mintermsheet.com/?utm_source=travis&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=pod2) Try ZipRecruiter for free at acast.com/privacy (https://www.acast.com/privacy)

Joel Marion is the co-founder and CMO of BioTrust Nutrition with more than $600 million in sales, 3.5 million customers and 17 million email subscribers. Joel is also the founder of transformation insider. Joel is one of the top email marketers in the world. Joel helped propel BioTrust to be one of the fastest-growing companies in history.  Episode Highlights:  Joel went to a private Christian school and was athletic growing up. The lessons Joel learned in a team atmosphere playing basketball. Being competitive teaches you what’s required to be someone who’s winning more often than losing. There’s a lot of trust that’s built in the team atmosphere. After going away to school he realized all of his best friends were back home. After Joel got introduced to Body 4 Life it changed the way he was working out. How Joel completely changed his personal health and won the Body 4 Life contest. After being published by his friend, Joel got rejected from other fitness magazines and asked for feedback. You have to learn what people want and then give them that. Joel became a teacher for three years while he was getting other projects off the ground. Joel got his first book bought and then it bombed. Why you can’t play the “if” game. Joel wanted to make $20,000 a month and became obsessed with direct response marketing. Joel took his same book that flopped and repackaged it into a course and made almost $500,000 on it. Joel realized that to take his business to the next level he would need to grow his network and pursue a joint venture. Joel started BioTrust and grew to over $100 million in sales in a year. In their first month, they did $4 million with one product funnel. 3 Key Points: When you take uncommon actions you can achieve uncommon results. Sell them what they want, give them what they need. You can scale what you do quickly when you get your entire industry on your team. Tweetable Quotes: “You have to learn what people want and then give them that.” -Joel “You don’t know what you don’t know until you learn it” -Joel “The reason I can have so much success is that I have the whole industry on my side.” -Joel Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at Buildyournetwork.co (http://www.buildyournetwork.co/) Join the Build Your Network Facebook group BYN.media/fb (http://www.buildyournetwork.co/fb/) Join the Build Your Network University Facebook group here byn.university (https://www.facebook.com/groups/bynuniversity) . Rylee Meek is the founder and CEO of the Social Dynamic Selling System which turns dinner seminar marketing into a science. Rylee has produced over $80 million in sales over the past 8 years and is not on a mission to help other entrepreneurs and business owners to reach their goals. Rylee talks to your host Travis Chappell about how to use dinner seminars in your business, why everyone should use some sort of direct sales at one point or another, and why failure is such a huge part of success. Get tactical and practical tips in this episode of the Build Your Network Podcast. Episode Highlights: Rylee grew up in small-town South Dakota and decided at 15 to work and contribute. He started his entrepreneurial journey young and learned about personal development. After feeling like a complete failure in business he went on to get into insurance. He did well in insurance but didn’t want to do that for the rest of his life. He made a decent amount of money in sales and he knew he wanted to be in health and fitness. He bought a 24 Hour Fitness franchise and found that he was working hard and making little. Rylee started his first company selling home improvement products to make their houses more energy efficient. He realized that his passion wasn’t selling products but pouring into people. Rylee’s new book Food for Thought talks about how to use dinner seminar marketing to grow your business. The book is broken down into six different categories from choosing the restaurant to how to scale. The foundation of why dinner marketing works well is that you’re not there to sell them, you’re there to establish yourself as the authoritative figure in your market. The target profit margin you need to be able to sustain. Everything Rylee has had success with has been through a relationship. Even though Rylee has been very successful he’s still always in a mentorship or a mastermind. You have to have a system in place and operate with intent - don’t just let life happen to you. The Random Round: What profession other than your own do you think it would be fun to attempt? Surgeon If you could sit on a park bench with anyone past or present and talk with them for an hour, who would it be and why? Nicola Tesla How do you like to consume content? Podcasts Rylee’s favorite podcasts: Bulletproof with Dave Asprey Rylee’s morning routine: Wake up and sit in a hot tub Sit in sauna Read a little bit He reads, prays, and meditates in the morning What is your go-to pump up song? Remember the Name What is something you’re not very good at? Mechanical things What is one place online where we can find Rylee the most? socialdynamicselling.com (http://socialdynamicselling.com/) 3 Key Points: You can be as passionate as you want but if you don’t have a sales system you won’t be successful. You need a system that’s predictable, sustainable, and scalable. You never know what could happen if you’re open to opportunity. Tweetable Quotes: “Do the uncomfortable until it becomes comfortable.” -Rylee “Money isn’t everything until you don’t have enough of it.” -Rylee “The goal is to do more, be more, become more.” -Rylee Resources Mentioned: Visit Travis’ website at Buildyournetwork.co (http://www.buildyournetwork.co/) Join the Build Your Network Facebook group BYN.media/fb (http://www.buildyournetwork.co/fb/) Join the Build Your Network University Facebook group here acast.com/privacy (https://www.acast.com/privacy)

What do you think of when you hear the word "Networking"?  Maybe some things come to mind such as coffee dates, email introductions, phone calls or even a horribly awkward happy hour event where you're showered with business cards.  But I'm guessing that you don't hear "networking" and think of Facebook groups, Instagram Direct Messaging, and paid mastermind groups.  That's where Travis Chappell comes in.   Travis is the host of the Build Your Network Podcast, where he connects with and interviews some of the top networkers of our time.  He is able to blend tried and true relationship building techniques with the tools that social media brings to our fingertips.  Travis shares the strategies that he used to connect with people like John Lee Dumas of Entrepreneur on Fire.   Links: BuildYourNetwork.co Free Ebook: BuildYourNetwork.co/fb Facebook: Travis.chappell.15
