WWE Logan Paul signs multi-year deal. Expires after Mania 41. During an interview with ESPN, Logan said that he likes what creative pithed him and that he wouldn't have stayed with WWE if he didnt think he could win a title. What title does he win? US Title from Theory? Photoshopped picture was funny. Liv and Raquel win titles from Becky and Trish. Do we care? Also, when did the tag titles be able to be passed off to other wrestlers who didnt actually win? Lita to Trish…seems weird. Becky didnt have good energy and seemed off.  Cody v Brock Cody had another good promo. Triple H said at the post Mania press conference that the story never ends in WWE. However, I think that they should end stories. Since Mania it seems that they are still running with a bunch of the same stories and they all seem to have lost a bit of their luster. I'm not sure how you can build them back uo to pre Mania levels of hype. Dom and Rey needs to be done. That promo from Dom last night was horrible. Nik Kershaw's debut studio album, Human Racing, would also be his most commercially successful album.  He would find more popularity in the UK where his album hit number 3 on the album charts than in the United States, where it would appear at number 70 on the Billboard 200.  Kershaw wrote all the songs, performed lead and backing vocals, bass guitar, guitar, keyboards, and percussion.  Other personnel on the album would include Paul "Wix" Wickens on keyboards, Charlie Morgan on drums, and a slew of session musicians including his wife Sheri Kershaw on backing vocals.Nicholas David “Nik” Kershaw came from a musical family - his mother was an opera singer and his father was a flautist - and he was a self-taught guitarist at an early age.  Kershaw embarked on a career as a musician and songwriter by 1982, and had significant international success with both this debut album and his second follow-up, “The Riddle.”  He was one of the performers at Live Aid in 1985 at Wembly stadium.Although his solo career waned after that, he continues to produce albums today, and has collaborated with a number of artists, including Kim Wilde, Tony Banks, Steve Hackett, Elton John, and Michael W. Smith.  Rob takes us into this 80's phenomenon this week.Wouldn't It Be GoodThis song made it to number 43 on the Billboard Hot 100, and has everything you expect from 80's pop music.  It is about how the lives of others seems so much better.  “Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes even if it was for just one day?  Wouldn't it be good if we could wish ourselves away?”  Kershaw would perform this song in Live Aid.Dancing Girls The third single from the album is about a guy who is sick of his middle class life.  He wants some excitement in his life - "bring on the dancing girls!"  Faces This song has a different feel than the others.  It is about looking at the people who are taking over your mind.  There's a sense of religious hypocrisy, with lots of different faces provided and instructions on when to use them.  I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me While it didn't do well in the States, this was a hit in the UK.  A cold war song, the lyrics are about choosing to live positively despite the risk of nuclear annihilation.   ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:The Nerd Theme from the motion Picture “Revenge of the Nerds”NERDS!!!  A surprise success at the movies in the summer of 1984 was the comedy “Revenge of the Nerds.” STAFF PICKS:Little Lady by Duke JupiterWayne starts off the staff picks with a group from Rochester, New York, which may be surprising since the song sounds more like Southern rock than something out of the northeast.  We think it sounds like ZZ-Top. The song is about a woman who is ditching her groom at the altar.   Duke Jupiter had a 13-year career, breaking up in 1986.Doctor! Doctor! by the Thompson Twins Brian's staff pick is a song comparing being in love to a medical state.  The Thompson Twins got their start as a new wave group before moving to more mainstream success as a part of the Second British Invasion.  This song would hit number 11 in the US and number 3 in the UK.Missing You by John WaiteBruce's staff pick  was a late edition to Waite's second solo album, "No Brakes."  It was also a huge success that really launched Waite's solo career.  The lyrics were inspired by several relationships Waite was in, primarily his wife with whom he was divorcing at the time.  The melancholy denial of "I ain't missing you at all" paired with the background vocals "missing you" struck a chord with listeners, and the song would be a number 1 hit on the US charts.Legs by ZZ TopRob's closes out with a song more famous for its video than the song itself.  This is the first top 10 hit from ZZ Top from their "Eliminator" album.  A number of people have covered this song, but there's no way to outdo the original.  The video tells a story of a girl transforming from a wilting wallflower to a knockout with the help of a ghostly ZZ Top. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:The Call of Ktulu by MetallicaThis week's podcast closes out with an instrumental from Metallica before the band achieved the monster status it would attain by the end of the decade.  

DECEMBER 5th 2021: Belmont Banter Episode 90 MIKE GREEN Official podcast of Whitstable Town F.C. Mike played in goal wearing glasses when he was very young, then changed to contact lenses when he was a bit older. But apart from school football and playing with his mates Mike's real love was when his dad finally gave into his persistent request to go and watch Gillingham. In time Mike's other love became Arsenal after he persuaded his Dad to take him to a match. As it turned he had a relation who lived close to the ground and they were able to park a short distance from Highbury and walk to the ground.  Mike's football came to an end after he developed a stomach ulcer which burst, and he stopped playing football all together. This turned into a passion for radio, more to the point football on the radio which became not only Mike's hobby but turned into a part time career for him as he followed ‘The MEDWAY BEARS Ice Hockey Team' and reported from almost every ground in Kent and many further afield. Mike tells some great stories, one when he followed Whitstable Town to North Ferriby FC, another when he followed DEAL TOWN all the way to WEMBLY. Mike has also reported on Cricket, The OPEN GOLF and Superbikes from BRANDS HATCH in a long radio career. Carol Anne Chenard was in charge of the match, and also happens to be the first woman to have ever reffed at Wembly. Up next, a preview of the first round of the Canadian Championship. Canadian Championship Preview What: The top competition among Canadian teams from all professional leagues Who: All Canadian MLS teams, Canadian Premier League teams, USL’s Ottawa Fury, and the champion from Ontario League 1 (Vaughan Azzuri) and the Premiere Ligue de Soccer du Quebec’s champion (AS Blainville). Format Three home and away qualifying rounds. Semifinal round Final round Winner on aggregate moves on for each round In the event of a tie, away goals wins Schedule: First games are on May 15 and the final match is on September 25. What’s new? New format with several more teams than before: all the CanPL teams are new, other than FCE. What’s interesting The fact that CanPL teams are in this year is interesting There’s a great deal of controversy over the seeding. Valour FC, FCE, and Forge FC all got buys into the second qualifying round by virtue of having signed up for the league first. Very strange. CanCon: Each team needs to field at least three Canadian starters. Why is this important Hardware The winner gets a birth in the CONCACAF Champions League – one of two ways to get in. Round 1 Details Round 1 started this week and featured 4 CPL teams: HFX Wanderers (3) vs. Vaughn Azzurri (2) Calvary FC (2) vs Pacific FC (0) York 9 FC (0) vs A.S. Blainville (0) The winner of each of these two-legged ties goes on to meet Valour FC, Forge FC, and FC Edmonton, respectively. Those winners then move on to compete against Ottawa Fury, Vancouver Whitecaps, and Montreal Impact. I'll add a graphic to the show notes for reference. Game Reactions Having watched the games between CPL and L1O/ PLSQ teams, I found it very interesting CPL teams had to fight - it was a real competition Wanderers blew their lead and were lucky to win on a penalty in the dying moments of the game A.S. Blainville was happy to let York 9 have possession - nothing ever came of it. Makes me think Pro/ Rel is closer than we think. Have a listen to what the coaches had to say about the game. He scouted, watched video. He already knew some of these players and wanted them for his squad. Next up, I've got some audio related to the York 9 versus A.S. Blainville match. I had a chance to interview Wandrille Lefevre, who prior to playing with A.S. Blainville was with the Montreal Impact. He's also a former Canadian International. Have a listen to his perspective on his first match against Wanderers FC. Looking forward I found it interesting to see just how tight the games were. There's real skill in both division 3 leagues. Heck, many of the CPL's players came from these leagues. The cohesion and history of the semi-pro teams really showed. At the same time, however, the CPL teams definitely moved faster and had better individual skill. My predictions for who goes through at this point: Wanderers FC Cavalry FC A.S. Blainville Why A.S. Blainville? Didn't concede at home Got their chances Could contain York 9 and wait for their moments Nothing to lose Also, Kudos to One Soccer for doing a good job with the commentary and coverage. It wasn't perfect (there were technical glitches here and there), but all things considered, I was able to enjoy watching the broadcast. Next leg of round one will be played on May 22, which you can watch at home through One Soccer dot ca. Alternatively, go to the game! Season ticket holders - you've got tickets!
