Chuck and Don celebrate the 90s with Jim Carrey, Capri Sun, and a movie that asks you to believe in magic just long enough to get the story rolling. In Liar Liar, Carrey plays Fletcher Reed, a lawyer who puts his job before his son, Max. When Max wishes that his father can't lie for one day, Fletcher must navigate his work and personal lives with nothing but the truth. Hilarity ensues. And, best yet, this movie only requires 87 minutes of your time! After the review, Don and Chuck discuss lying to others and ourselves, how everyone needs to lie occasionally, and how the movie dropped the ball regarding Fletcher getting a comeuppance. Max Wenerstrom is a blacksmith and craftsman best known for creating hand-forged knives that balance a beautiful aesthetic with practical durability. Max started blacksmithing at the age of 15, became obsessed with the craft, and quickly demonstrated an elite talent for creating one-of-a-kind knives. His passion led him to study under a 17th-generation Japanese bladesmith, who began teaching Max the art of forging knives in the Japanese tradition-- a labor-intensive, time-honored method of creating some of the world’s sharpest and most durable knives. - I was introduced to Max by my friends at Ranchlands, one of the West’s most respected ranch management companies. Max was participating in a residency at Ranchlands’ 87,000-acre Chico Basin Ranch, where he was offering blacksmithing demonstrations and forging a specific model of knife developed in partnership with Ranchlands. It’s a knife created specifically for ranchers-- designed to be used on horseback for everyday work and high-stakes situations. So when the folks at Ranchlands told me about Max, I drove out, and we sat down for an inspiring conversation. - Max is only 21 years old, and as you’ll hear in the interview, I was blown away by his maturity, work ethic, and commitment to quality. But aside from my endless amazement with his age, we covered a ton of interesting topics. We chatted about his beginnings in the craft, and what led him to study with world-famous Japanese bladesmith Murray Carter. We discussed his dedication to creating the highest quality products, how he pushes himself to constantly improve his craft, and the hard work involved in both. We discuss how he started building his business during high school and how it has grown and evolved in recent years. We talked about his partnership with Ranchlands, the process of making a knife, his deep love of the West, and advice for anyone seeking to begin a deliberate practice of craftsmanship. - I really loved this conversation and appreciated Max taking the time to chat. My conversation with Melanie Perkins: Last week we met Max Perkins, a native of Nantucket, Massachusetts a beautiful tourist destination located 30 miles off the coast of Cape Cod. Max has the good fortune of living where he loves and making a career doing jobs that he loves. I call this Happy Place Living! Max's wife Melanie grew up in suburban Connecticut, a far cry from living at a tourist destination like Nantucket. Melanie was living in the Boston area and practicing nursing full-time when she met and married Max. This lifestyle grew increasingly stressful, especially in 2020 during the COVID pandemic. When Max and Melanie decided to move to Nantucket, they made a decision to make their happy place their home. That move also gave Melanie an opportunity to re-evaluate her work-life balance. Melanie is now a thriving entrepreneur. And, while she still takes occasional nursing shifts at the local hospital, she spends most of her time nurturing the two businesses she launched in 2020. Fleurish Nantucket is a florist business and Glistn Nantucket is a mobile wellness and beauty business. In launching these businesses and living on the beautiful island of Nantucket, Melanie has found the perfect way to make her happy place her home. He grew up in a family valuing achievement and excellence.  His career started in a company owned by Partick G. Ryan.  He was first in field sales and moved up to district manager, area manager, regional manager, and eventually the national marketing manager in 5 years.  When Max got his dream job, he started to realize he was not right in the corporate environment. In 1981, he left his position and started his own company. Starting His Business Max started with no existing relationships and no clients.  He found himself in an embarrassing and humiliating situation because he doesn't have any idea how to run the business.  He just had his wife, who supported him throughout the process.  It eventually worked out for him. His company broke along the way, but he was able to surpass the challenges.  Advice For Pre-Entrepreneurs  “When you quit your job, you don't become an entrepreneur. When you quit your job, you become unemployed.”  Entrepreneurship is an art form of being employed in your new business.  The most critical aspect of winning a war is to show up with a great plan.  Entrepreneurship is simply about not quitting.  Make sure to listen to the full episode for more juicy advice! The Business Function  Design your business function first. When things are not going your way, the solution is to pull back and find out where your strategy is broken.  Your vitality, strategy, and business model are the most critical aspects of your business. There can be no success without a strategy. And there is no strategy without intelligence.  Doing Your Research It starts with being internet driven.   In their case, they hire college interns to help on the intelligence side, as well as for every client. They also help their clients hire and select college interns to do their marketing.  Questions To Answer In Formulating A Strategy First, what is your value creation strategy?  Second, how do your customers embrace your value, and how do they measure it?  Third, what is your customer acquisition strategy?  Fourth, what is your pricing strategy?  Fifth, what is your exit strategy? Or, if you will be attacked, what is your defence strategy?  Addressing A Business Design Flaw  Start with your intelligence. Grill on that intelligence until you find an avenue that aligns with your strength.  Evaluate how your strategy is evolving.  Redesign and test it.  You can also have the interns take over it.  Do not make a business decision out of fear. Common Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make   It always boils down to strategy and design.  One mistake is selling using PowerPoint. You should be able to put your entire business model in a piece of paper. Steps To Business Success and Being A Market Leader  Innovate.  Change the game. Change the discussion. Control the dialogue.  Have a new blueprint for execution.  Career Rewards He believes that having a positive impact on the lives of others and creating opportunities for them is his greatest reward.  He was able to hire a homeless person. And Freya, buoyed by Low’s adoration, is compelled to share her darkest secrets and deepest desires. Finally, both feel a sense of belonging...that is, until Jamie walks through the studio door. Desperate for a baby, she and her husband have moved to the island hoping that the healthy environment will result in a pregnancy. Freya and Jamie become fast friends, as do their husbands, leaving Low alone once again. Then one night, after a boozy dinner party, Freya suggests swapping partners. It should have been a harmless fling between consenting adults, one night of debauchery that they would put behind them, but instead, it upends their lives. And provides Low the perfect opportunity to unleash her growing resentment. The Vanishing Sky, L. Annette Binder.  In 1945, as the war in Germany nears its violent end, the Huber family is not yet free of its dangers or its insidious demands. Etta, a mother from a small, rural town, has two sons serving their home country: her elder, Max, on the Eastern front, and her younger, Georg, at a school for Hitler Youth. When Max returns from the front, Etta quickly realizes that something is not right-he is thin, almost ghostly, and behaving very strangely. Etta strives to protect him from the Nazi rule, even as her husband, Josef, becomes more nationalistic and impervious to Max's condition. Meanwhile, miles away, her younger son Georg has taken his fate into his own hands, deserting his young class of battle-bound soldiers to set off on a long and perilous journey home. The Vanishing Sky is a World War II novel as seen through a German lens, a story of the irreparable damage of war on the home front, and one family's participation-involuntary, unseen, or direct-in a dangerous regime. Drawing inspiration from her own father's time in the Hitler Youth, L. Annette Binder has crafted a spellbinding novel about the choices we make for country and for family.

What’s the best way to eat for optimal health—and brain health in particular—and longevity? That’s a question Max Lugavere is working to answer. When Max’s mother’s mental health began to decline, he became obsessed with how it could have been prevented. And that culminated in his first book, Genius Foods, which was a New York Times best-seller all about using diet and nutrition to help prevent dementia. Unfortunately, Max’s mother developed pancreatic cancer, which she died from shortly after. Max’s determination didn’t wane, though, and he’s since gone on to write his newest book, Genius Life, which expands on the premise of his first book to go beyond food and build a healthy lifestyle. In this episode, Max and I talk about . . . - Why many people don’t need to eat so many carbs - Misconceptions about olive oil for cooking - The effect of late-night eating on hunger hormones - Blue light blocking and magnesium for better sleep - And more . . . So, if you want to live a longer, healthier life while avoiding disease and optimizing your brain, listen to this episode! 12:49 - What are some of the big takeaways that you discussed in your book? 34:21 - Why is eating at night not healthy? 51:57 - How much time outside should you spend to increase better sleep? 53:45 - Can you simulate natural light with artificial light? 1:00:01 - What are some toxic chemicals that we are constantly exposed to and how can we avoid them? --- Mentioned on The Show: Max’s Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/maxlugavere/ Max’s New Book: https://geniuslifebook.com/ Books by Mike Matthews: https://legionathletics.com/products/books/ --- Want to get my best advice on how to gain muscle and strength and lose fat faster? Garsh! Here's some new fangled trivia for ya about my Goofy Movie. In fact, there's not just one but thirteen juicy morsels that'll wet your whistle, hyuck! The character of Powerline is a mixture of Bobby Brown, Prince, and Michael Jackson. Although Jason Marsden is a talented singer, he did not perform the musical numbers in the film. It was out of Disney's concern that a Broadway-style musical actor should provide Max's singing voice instead. That actor was Aaron Lohr, a personal close friend of Jason's. Donald Duck originally had a larger role where he played a travel agent. Goofy asks "What do you think I should do?" Donald responds incoherently. Goofy responds, "What did you say? Is there someone else I can talk to?" HIDDEN MICKEY: During the Powerline Concert, Mickey Mouse can be spotted in the crowd in the lower left portion of the crowd shot immediately after the Stage manager is thrown into the DiamondVision screen. He also can be spotted during the show in the auditorium, and on the road side with Donald duck. This film was originally made around late 1993, and was supposed to be released in theaters during the holiday season of 1994. However, some production problems in France caused the film's release to be pushed back to 1995, while The Lion King was reissued to fill in for the film's absence. Burger King released five toys featuring Goofy and Max to promote the film in the USA in 1995. They each included the characters on one of five different vehicles. The inspiration for the film came from then CEO of The Walt Disney Company, Jeffrey Katzenberg who was feeling distant from his daughter. He decided to go on a road trip with her that brought the two closer together. Bobby Brown was originally set to voice Powerline and had already recorded some songs for the character, but was fired due to substance abuse issues. Some of the songs Bobby did for the movie were revamped and ended up on his "Forever" album. When Max gets stopped by the principle at the end of the song "Stand Out" at the school concert, A wooden cut out of Ariel can be seen sitting on top of a skull. Writer Jymn Magon, watched a lot of road trip movies to get an idea of different tropes of vacation movies to draw from, including National Lampoon's Vacation series. Coincidentally, the late Dana Hill appeared in 1985's National Lampoon's European Vacation as daughter, Audrey Griswold. For unclear reasons, Pete's wife, Peg and his daughter, Pistol, not to mention Waffles and Chainsaw as well, were all totally absent and never even referenced in either this film or it's sequel. In the scene after Big Foot attacks Max and Goofy, Max kicks the glove box and a map falls out. Max, then, looks at it. The starting location is around the area of Columbus, Ohio, answering a question that's been around for ages: "Where does Goofy live?" Voice actor Bill Farmer mentioned that he took his then-five year old son to an advanced screening of the film. Upon exiting the theater, his son was in tears. When asked why he was crying, his son responded with "When Goofy fell off the waterfall, I thought that was you!" Today's Guest: Max Bawarski, Owner, Two Smooth Dudes Max is from upstate New York and attended the State University of Cortland. He was an academic and an All-American track athlete in college. Max has been teaching PE for Fairfax County Public Schools in Northern Virginia for 13 years.  His passion is for fitness, sports, and good food. Summary Max started his first business when he was just a kid and never lost his entrepreneurial spirit.   He started as a young man shoveling driveways and raking lawns, and when he started teaching he discovered that reselling used furniture off Craigslist was way more profitable than being a waiter. At each step of his side hustlin' journey, Max followed his interests and passions to grow and learn.  Even his one "failed" venture led to the next, which led to the next. When Max and his former partner started Two Smooth Dudes, he spent time to find a reasonably priced truck, even driving to another state to get a better price.  He then was open to learning new things about the food truck business, finding a mentor, and even changing his entire menu in order to open up a new, highly profitable opportunity. Key Takeaways Your first business doesn't have to be your life-long business You can enjoy your business, but it's still not the right one for you Working less and earning more is possible Find someone who's doing what you want to do and learn from them

Luke Yankee shares the story of Dr. Max Gerson with us. Max Gerson believed his protocol held the key to reversing cancer and most chronic, degenerative diseases. “THE MAN WHO KILLED THE CURE” is inspired by the life and death of Dr. Max Gerson, one of the pioneers in the world of natural healing. When Max Gerson and his business partner, Rudolph Heller, escaped Nazi Germany, they had no idea what awaited them in New York. Rudy wanted the good life, treating his patients the traditional way. When Max created an all natural cure for cancer, the medical world felt threatened, not to mention his friend and colleague. The AMA and the big pharmaceutical companies would stop at nothing to keep this natural cure off the market, but Max was equally determined that the world should know about it. Inspired by true events, this gripping and controversial story delves into a world of medicine where the end goal is not healing but profit. This play recently received its first workshop production at the University of California – Irvine in February 2017. It was nominated for the Otis Guernsey New Voices in the American Theatre Award and was a semifinalist for the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference. Tread Perilously continues its primetime soaps months with the late 90s sci-fi teen drama Roswell. Specifically, a third season episode called "Control." As Max continues his attempt to save his son, his journey leads him to a big shot Hollywood producer who happens to be one of the shapeshifting bodyguards sent to protect him fifty years prior. When Max discovers the producer must obey his direct orders, they plan to steal their UFO back from a nearby Air Force base. Meanwhile, Isabel is stunned to discover no one is excited about her upcoming wedding to Jesse. Also, Liz and Maria are in this episode. Erik and Justin quickly get derailed to discuss Star Trek, which was also a UPN series for a time. They also express their puzzlement over Ronald D. Moore's producer role on Outlander. Colin Hanks gets compared to Chloe Sullivan, but NOT Allison Mack. Erik suspects Roswell may have been the source of some of Twilight's characters and structure. Both are surprised by Jason Behr's performance. They also cannot figure out why everyone is mad at Max and Isabel's adoptive mother. A close-up look at one scene leads Justin to soften his opinion on Katherine Heigl and Erik recalls the interim technology of the early 21st Century.

While discussing who he would like to work with in the Bay Area Gully said SOB x RBE is near the top of that list, "maybe them SOB RBE dudes..." Since Gully brought up the "Anti" rappers, SOB x RBE, Max asked if everyone was aware of the recent controversy their lead man, Yhung TO started on Twitter...Yhuno TO started a huge controversy last week when he tweeted, "SOB created the new Bay sound. You n*ggas still stuck in the Hyphy movement." He let that tweet go viral and didn't saying anything for a whole day... The next day he sent another Tweet saying, "and fa ery n*gga that took my sh*t outta context n used dis as an opportunity to express yo feelings u been hiding the whole time, Now you gotta deal with the storm that comes next #TuTuLand"Gully, Nump- who was in the heart of the Hyphy movement, Tay Off the Top and everyone shared their opinions on the young rappers controversial statements....While discussing his influences, Gully said Bay Area legend The Jack was his favorite, and went on to tell a couple stories that detailed how close he grew with the Pittsburg MC right before his murder on Feb. 2nd 2015. The 2 Hard 4 Radio crew is going to be in the building the "The Jacka's Art Show" at the Green Door SF on Feb. 2nd paying homage to the slain Bay Area legend. When Max told Gully that the guys in his home town of Detroit wear the same style "Cartier" sunglasses, Gully went on to say how he has mad love and respect for Detroit and a lot of artists coming out of there. That lead into Nump showing major love to Detroit rapper Payroll Giovani and the work he's been doing with Cardo. Max let it be known that he's been listening to Payroll since back when he was in the Detroit group "Doughboyz Cashout."The crew also talked about a recent interview G Eazy did with the Breakfast Club where he was hella open about his drugs use, so Gully discussed his personal knowledge of the role that drugs like lean, Xanax, & Percs play in hip hop music. They also discussed Mozzy's recent #KickTheCupChallenge where he challenged people to quit sipping lean by pouring out an un-opened bottle, and whether they thought it was a purely positive movement, or if there is some sort of hidden agenda behind it....In true 2 Hard 4 Radio style, Gully spit a freestyle at the end and his homie Tay Off the Top @TayOffTheTop spit some fire straight from the dome which made G Biz & Nump spit some bars too!

As your host, I’ll be recording solo episodes which will answer some of the most common questions I’m asked as a physician such as “what CAN I eat as a diabetic?”, “how can I lose the extra weight that I’ve put on recently?”, “is it really possible to reverse type 2 diabetes?”, “What can I do to prevent my children from getting diabetes since it runs in the family?” and more. I will also be coaching patients and clients live on-air, and conducting interviews with other diabetic experts. For the first show, I am republishing one of my favorite interviews from season 1 with Max Szadek on “Empowering Women to Learn About Diabetes.” I hope you enjoy the show! Max Szadek is an entrepreneur currently living in New York city and is the founder of Divabetic. After graduating from Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University, Max had a very colorful career working as a celebrity personal assistant with the legendary R&B musician Luther Vandross before his death. Following the tragic loss to the music world, Max has since gone on to become a powerful public spokesman for diabetes awareness. One of his vehicles is the national nonprofit organization, Divabetic (divabetic.org) which partially grew out of his dismay with the lack of media attention to Luther Vandross’ diabetes.  Though Max does not himself have the disease, he’s made it his mission to help those who do. His older brother is living with Type 1, his grandmother had diabetes as do several other family members. When Max is not busy with his work fighting for people with diabetes, he enjoys tennis, live theater, and live music. He is also a member of the largest LGBTQ Sports League in North America (Gotham Volleyball), and the New York Celebrity Assistants organization. Show Notes: What happened? Most people are not very educated about diabetes. It’s all too easy to forget to manage your diabetes. Life gets in the way. Type 2 diabetes often involves a lot of shame and blame because of the misconceptions around diabetes. Living with diabetes is more than just managing your sugar levels. People often become angry when they are diagnosed with diabetes, the disease can be frustrating to deal with. Weight gain is very common and difficult to deal with. You need to feel better about yourself, that will help you deal with the symptoms more effectively and improve your condition. How do you empower women to learn about diabetes? The programs usually go for one to two hours. It usually involves an expert speaker and entertaining education. Max uses popular modern music on his podcast to help convey the emotion and meaning. Stress can lead to an addiction of eating which is especially bad for people with diabetes. In the last couple of months the music world has lost multiple people to complications with diabetes. Celebrities bring diabetes to the fore but people still don’t understand how diabetes relates to the kidneys or the eyes or other parts of their body. You need a diabetes care team to help manage the symptoms similar to what happens when someone is diagnosed with cancer. If you love yourself, you will naturally take better care of yourself. We need to help people accept themselves. It must be such an amazing experience when you put on live shows and see the fans in person. What are some key takeaways that women have from attending live events that educate them about diabetes in a positive way? Small boosts of confidence can help boost your overall care. Getting a makeover helps people feel good about their image, living with diabetes doesn’t mean you can’t look good. Marrying the education with music and showmanship has really amplified the effect of the message. You need to take care of your feet, special shoes for people with diabetes can help you care for your feet while still being fashionable. If your family has a history of Type 1 or 2 diabetes, you have to manage your condition if you want to live a full life. It was Grandma's birthday. Max made her an earthworm birthday cake. "No, Max," said Max's sister, Ruby, "We are going to make Grandma an angel surprise cake with raspberry-fluff icing. Max wanted to help. "Don't touch anything, Max," said Ruby. But it was too late. Ruby sent Max to the store with a list that said: EGGS. Max wanted Red-Hot Marshmallow Squirters for his earthworm cake. So he wrote "Red-Hot Marshmallow Squirters" on the list. The grocer could not read Max's writing. "Eggs!" said the grocer, and he gave Max eggs. Max brought the eggs home to Ruby. "Don't bump the table, Max!" said Ruby. But it was too late. Ruby sent Max back to the store with a list that said: MILK. This time Max wrote "Red-Hot Marshmallow Squirters" in a different way. Max hoped and hoped for his Squirters, but the grocer still couldn't read Max's writing. "Milk!" said the grocer, and he gave Max milk. Max brought the milk home to Ruby. "There's a yellow line on the floor, Max," said Ruby. "You can't step over the line." But Max crossed the line anyway. Over went the flour. Ruby got out her pencil: FLOUR. This time Max wrote "Red-Hot Marshmallow Squirters" in the most beautiful writing he knew. Max could almost taste the Marshmallow Squirters. "Flour," said the grocer, and he gave Max flour. When Max got home, there was a sign on the kitchen door. "Max, the kitchen is no place for you," said Ruby. Ruby finished up her cake. She baked it, and cooled it and iced it with raspberry-fluff frosting. "It needs spmething else, Max," said Ruby. "Birthday candles, silver stars, sugar hearts, buttercream roses," wrote Ruby. Meanwhile Max had a brand-new idea. He drew a picture of Red-Hot Marshmallow Squirters on Ruby's list and ran to the grocer. He could not wait. "Birthday candles, silver stars, sugar hearts, buttercream roses!" said the grocer. "What's this? Why, it must be Red-Hot Marshmallow Squirters!" Ruby's cake looked just beautiful. Max went out and put caterpillar icing on his earthworm cake. Grandma was so thrilled, she didn't know which cake to eat first.

Garsh! Here's some new fangled trivia for ya about my Goofy Movie. In fact, there's not just one but thirteen juicy morsels that'll wet your whistle, hyuck! 13. The character of Powerline is a mixture of Bobby Brown, Prince, and Michael Jackson. 12. Although Jason Marsden is a talented singer, he did not perform the musical numbers in the film. It was out of Disney's concern that a Broadway-style musical actor should provide Max's singing voice instead. That actor was Aaron Lohr, a personal close friend of Jason's. 11. Donald Duck originally had a larger role where he played a travel agent. Goofy asks "What do you think I should do?" Donald responds incoherently. Goofy responds, "What did you say? Is there someone else I can talk to?" 10. HIDDEN MICKEY: During the Powerline Concert, Mickey Mouse can be spotted in the crowd in the lower left portion of the crowd shot immediately after the Stage manager is thrown into the DiamondVision screen. He also can be spotted during the show in the auditorium, and on the road side with Donald duck. 9. This film was originally made around late 1993, and was supposed to be released in theaters during the holiday season of 1994. However, some production problems in France caused the film's release to be pushed back to 1995, while The Lion King was reissued to fill in for the film's absence. 8. Burger King released five toys featuring Goofy and Max to promote the film in the USA in 1995. They each included the characters on one of five different vehicles. 7. The inspiration for the film came from then CEO of The Walt Disney Company, Jeffrey Katzenberg who was feeling distant from his daughter. He decided to go on a road trip with her that brought the two closer together. 6. Bobby Brown was originally set to voice Powerline and had already recorded some songs for the character, but was fired due to substance abuse issues. Some of the songs Bobby did for the movie were revamped and ended up on his "Forever" album. 5. When Max gets stopped by the principle at the end of the song "Stand Out" at the school concert, A wooden cut out of Ariel can be seen sitting on top of a skull. 4. 3. For unclear reasons, Pete's wife, Peg and his daughter, Pistol, not to mention Waffles and Chainsaw as well, were all totally absent and never even referenced in either this film or it's sequel. 2. In the scene after Big Foot attacks Max and Goofy, Max kicks the glove box and a map falls out. Max, then, looks at it. The starting location is around the area of Columbus, Ohio, answering a question that's been around for ages: "Where does Goofy live?" 1. Voice actor Bill Farmer mentioned that he took his then-five year old son to an advanced screening of the film. Upon exiting the theater, his son was in tears. When asked why he was crying, his son responded with "When Goofy fell off the waterfall, I thought that was you!" A Goofy Movie (1995) G | 1h 18min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy | 7 April 1995 (USA) When Max makes a preposterous promise to a girl he has a crush on, his chances to fulfilling it seem hopeless when he is dragged onto a cross-country trip with his embarrassing father, Goofy.
