This week on the Red Dirt Agronomy podcast, the "Doctor's of Dirt, & Everything That Grows From It" talk about the southwest corner of the state—where the cotton fields stretch wide and the water's been mighty scarce. Dr. Brian Arnall, Dr. Josh Lofton, and Dave Deken catch up with Maxwell Smith, the IPM specialist working boots-on-the-ground in Altus. Maxwell breaks down the unique challenges of farming cotton in a region where irrigation depends on the Lake Lugert-Altus canal system—and where just a few inches of water can make or break your season. They talk through the nuts and bolts of the irrigation setup, why cotton works (when it works), and what's pushing some farmers to roll the dice on dryland corn. You'll also hear why herbicide resistance is bringing back “old-school” weed control, how new cotton trait tech like ThriveOn is changing early-season insect control, and what the future looks like for peanuts in Caddo County. If you grow cotton, peanuts, or anything under hot skies and dry dirt, this episode's got your name on it.[00:00–02:00] Max Smith on Altus, cotton, and canal-fed irrigation[03:00–06:00] Allocation math, irrigation upgrades, and lining the ditches[06:30–10:30] Cotton economics, price drops, and crop-switching trends[11:00–16:00] IPM 101: Bugs, weeds, and managing the early season[16:30–20:00] Trait tech: What's working, what's not, and what's next[20:30–24:00] Rotation talk: Corn, cotton, and keeping weeds guessing[24:30–29:00] Peanuts in Oklahoma: acreage trends, water woes, and weeds RedDirtAgronomy.com

In this episode, with Gavin away guiding in Japan, we've got Barry Wicks as our host. Wicks is a die-hard ski tourer who brings supremely positive energy into the hills. He's also a recovering bike racer who claims he's sworn off Lycra. Despite his baggy clothes, he's still fast. And he still knows gear. Anyhow, Wicks has a playful nature on skis. And we've been bantering back and forth for a few months about adopting progressive ski designs for those who uphill at resorts. It sort of makes sense—when there is an uphill, hopefully, there is a downhill. And why not try to make the downhill as enjoyable as possible?Wicks' quest to find a rockered twin-tipped ski that is light…isn't exactly easy. On his journey, Wicks speaks with Max Smith, VP of Reno, Nevada's Moment Skis. Who knows, maybe a mythical and lightweight 85-underfoot Wildcat Tour is in our future. If you have specific questions regarding the information (and opinions) presented in the podcast, you can comment on the website or email us on The High Route's contact page (editor@the-high-route.com). The High Route is a reader and listener-supported project, and we'll be releasing our first print edition of The High Route later this winter. You can learn how to support us here. You can find us at the-high-route.com: Yeah, there are two hyphens for redundancy, which is a good policy in the mountains. And according to Barry Wicks, don't-fear-the-hyphens®.The theme music for The High Route Podcast comes from Storms in the Hill Country and the album The Self Transforming (Thank you, Jens Langsjoen). You can find a link to the album here—there are so many good songs on this album. And if you think you've spotted a UFO in the past or visited the 7th dimension, "Beautiful Alien" is a good tune to begin with.
In this episode of the "For the Masses Podcast," host John Barrett converses with Max Smith, a young Christian architect and pastor's kid from Detroit, Michigan. Max shares his experiences growing up in a church environment, the unique challenges of being a PK, and the importance of community and vulnerability in faith. He discusses his journey through college at Howard University, including his struggles with doubt and loneliness, and how a transformative moment of prayer reignited his faith. The episode emphasizes the significance of local churches, community support, and being open about one's struggles in the faith journey. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/forthemasses/support

As their farm name suggests, Montana farmers Max Smith and Katie Madden of Winter Kissed Farm focus on growing vegetable crops year-round, especially during the winter seasons. On 15 acres and at 3,500 feet in elevation, they use multiple high-tunnels and caterpillar-tunnels to grow crops and sell them through a CSA, an online store, and to some area restaurants. They've had an interesting journey with marketing and production by focusing on winter- and spring-only sales during some recent years, but they are bringing back their summer CSA this year to meet the increasing demand for local, year-round veggies. With a crew of five full-time employees and following the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen and the holistic goal framework, Max and Katie are very intentional with their farm and business practices. Even in the face of challenges, they are flexible and mindful and offer an inspiring example of how to work together and build a farm as a team. Check out the folks who make the show possible... This week's episode comes from the Victoria Whisky Festival in Victoria, British Columbia...where a small Vancouver distillery shocked the Canadian whisky world the other night. Sons of Vancouver won Canadian Whisky of the Year honors at the Canadian Whisky Awards with their "Palm Trees and a Tropical Breeze" rye whisky. It was the highest-scoring whisky in the competition, and it wasn't even close. We'll talk with the distillery's Jenna Diubaldo, James Lester, and Max Smith on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth, along with Canadian Whisky Awards founder and chairman Davin de Kergommeaux. In the news, an explosion rocked Alberta Distillers in Calgary this week, while a long-running legal saga has come to an end in Vancouver.

For this week's episode, we are so excited to have our brother/son Max Smith on the podcast! Before we brought him on, we did a full recap of our Thanksgiving break--from Jamee's special surprise birthday video, eating pizza on Thanksgiving, and getting back in the groove of things after work, we enjoyed this entire week together. When Max came on the pod, we loved talking all about the ups and downs of being a twin, what it has been like to grow up with a twin, and a bunch of fun memories along the way. Of course, we laughed a lot and we will definitely have him back in the future! We finished up the episode by sharing what we're into for the week #StreamFolkloreLongPondSessions. On April 14, 2020 Last Mile Holdings (MILE.V) announced a new delivery service for restaurants, grocery stores, and other local businesses. It’s a smart adaptive mechanism to offer local business an alternative to being gouged by food delivery companies. Gotcha’s sit-down scooters and/or e-bikes will be available to these hard-hit vendors for $15 per day to deliver goods to customers – allowing local businesses to cut out 3rd-party delivery services, which typically charge 20 to 30 percent per order. “Last Mile Holdings has been making food deliveries on our sit-down scooter for over a year with food delivery partners reporting over 30% efficiency improvements over deliveries that were made with a car or pedal bike,” stated Max Smith, Last Mile CEO. Last Mile is a brand new company – so new it’s still bathed in amniotic fluid. In this Last Mile Podcast, Guy Bennett talks to Mr. Smith about the timing of MILE’s IPO, worker safety, partnerships with restaurants, food delivery apps and Last Mile’s enticing value proposition to retailers. Last Mile Holdings (MILE.V) suffered the misfortune of beginning life as a publicly traded company on March 9, 2020 – a day when the Great Stock Market Crash of 2020 began – the DJIA falling 2,013 points that day to 23,851. On March 5, 2020, Last Mile announced the acquisition of Gotcha Mobility, focusing on university campuses in the U.S. Gotcha has been a micro-mobility leader for 10 years, starting with electric rideshare vehicles and pedal bikes, then expanding into e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-trikes. With a focus on university and small to midsize municipalities, Gotcha has secured permits to deploy approximately 20,000 vehicles, 80% of which are exclusive. With 80 combined locations, MILE is the third largest micro-mobility company by location in North America, after Lime and Bird. “Last Mile’s OJO chain is growing fast, and in a controlled, responsible, and municipally welcomed fashion,” stated Equity Guru’s Chris Parry on March 13, 2020, “It’s a half billion dollar company in the making, in a $9 million market cap package”. In the pt.1 Last Mile Podcast, Equity Guru’s Guy Bennett talked to Last Mile CEO Max Smith about the importance of “exclusive contracts”, the company’s prestigious seed investors – and how innovative technologies create new revenue streams. In this p.2 Last Mile Podcast, Mr. Bennett talks to Mr. Smith about insurance, app functionality, retail partnerships, manufacturing, expansion capital and 2020 milestones. Listen in! At 6:30 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2020 Last Mile Holdings (MILE.V) will begin its life as a publicly traded company. What’s “Last Mile” about? Think Zipcar but with scooters and e-bikes. This service is “on trend”. Unlike previous generations, Millennials don’t perceive car ownership as hip. They prefer access to ownership. Case in point: Millennials account for about 23% of the general population but comprise more than 50% of Zipcar's members. Renting an electric scooter is environmentally friendly and leaves you free from the logistical and financial burden of vehicle ownership. “Purchases of cars by the younger set are dropping precipitously,” confirms Bloomberg News, “Survey after survey shows that the latest generations don’t put car ownership high on their list of things to do.” On March 5, 2020, Last Mile announced the acquisition of Gotcha Mobility, focusing on university campuses in the U.S. MILE now has the broadest product profile in the micro-mobility space, featuring a pedal bike, e-bike, standup scooter, seated scooter and trike," stated Max Smith, CEO of MILE. "Offering multi-modal solutions is key to expanding our network." Gotcha has secured permits to deploy 20,000 vehicles, 80% of which are exclusive. This acquisition positions MILE as the third largest micro-mobility company by location in North America, after Lime and Bird. In this podcast, Equity Guru’s Guy Bennett talks to Last Mile CEO Max Smith about the importance of “exclusive contracts”, the company’s prestigious seed investors - and innovative technologies will create new revenue streams. Hello you nutty podcast buggers and welcome to the thirteenth installment of Harry Hardy's Fun Saturday Internet Podcast Thing! In this week's episode, I share with you one of my favourite things I've ever been a part of: the time I ruined my friend Tom McManus's university radio show with the help of Jak Foster and Max Smith! First broadcast of Salford Uni's Shock Radio on December 8 2015, we talk about the (at the time newly-released) movies Steve Jobs and Spectre, what a 'pathetic fallacy' is, and we laugh at a whole lot of things that don't necessarily make that much sense or are actually that funny, but we seem to enjoy laughing about them. Please listen! Thanks!

(Originally uploaded 1st April 2016)In this episode of Harry Hardy's Payphone Podcast, Harry is joined in the studio with two rising stars of YouTube - Tom McManus and Max Smith from the FirstyBoyz! Issues discussed in this edition include the geographic location of Ayr compared to that of Northumberland, forgetting some people's birthdays while remembering those of others, and the disgusting state of the majority of payphones in Salford. Also, stay tuned for a nice story about being locked in a payphone as a child, which renders the entire podcast into some sort of weird, depressing therapy session. Enjoy!
