It's UNCONVENTIONAL slasher week this week on the Cruel Summer Slashback, the boz are taking a look at James Cameron's The Terminator (1984) and the very underrated The First Power (1990)!
It all comes down to this, the season 7 finale. It has been a long journey to this point, points were won, points were lost, and now someone must be crowned the winner, and someone must be crowned the bottom boy. The margins are razor thin this season. Engineer Bob has a 60, Prospect has a 62.55, Lobo has a 66, and Jax with 1 movies to go has a 68. It's anyone's game.As with all finale episodes, we're reviewing the final 2 movies of the season. Leprechaun in the Hood and From Dusk Till Dawn, a horror movie finale. Some heat and some sheet. Sean and Amanda start the show by briefly reacting to the box office performance of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps' and wondering whether or not superhero movies will ever return to the levels of the MCU golden days (1:39). Then, they bring in Andy Greenwald to discuss Netflix's newest animated success, ‘KPop Demon Hunters,' which they were initially skeptical of but eventually became charmed by, and they hypothesize what makes a big cultural hit in 2025 (4:46). Next, Sean and Amanda unpack the new slasher legacy sequel ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer,' starring Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui Wonders, which they found incredibly condescending. They talk through why they found the script, performances, and kill sequences to be deeply unsuccessful (38:28). Finally, they reflect on what many consider to be the weakest decade of the horror genre and create their 1990s Horror Movie Canon (1:04:59). The Hollywood Reporter recently released a list of their choices for the 25 best horror movies of the 21st century so far and it caused quite a stir. We disagreed with their choice for the number one spot and decided to create an episode making the case for a different, not that well known, but extraordinarily cutting edge horror film. We also asked for your input on the movie as well. Yesterday, we shared with you our final episode (previously only available to Patrons) charting our way through the third season of TWIN PEAKS (commonly known as The Return). It's now time to assess our broader feelings about its themes and interests.Nathan and Reed sit by themselves this week for a disarmingly thoughtful and vulnerable conversation about creativity, narrative forms, and the emotional difficulties of trying to understand the story we're living right now. There are many thoughts about the nature of storytelling, the ways we engage creative material as an audience, and the faith we require to hold onto hope amidst extremely confusing and distressing circumstances. It's an honest and open conversation about how The Return made us feel and we hope you enjoy it!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Today on another encore edition of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Peter Knego, son of actor Peter Coe and model Rosalee Calvert. Peter doesn't pull many punches on this episode as we discuss the mercurial character that was his father. Known for his roles in films from the 1940s onward, be it Gung Ho!, Gypsy Wildcat or Louisiana Hussy, Coe is best remembered for his for his wild offscreen ways, his dark good look, his many wives and more. In fact, many will remember Peter Coe best for his horror film career in films like House of Frankenstein & The Mummy's Curse both which starred Lon Cheyney Jr. However it might be his lasting friendship at the very end of his life with b-movie director Ed Wood that piques the most interest with fans. In fact, Wood died in Coe's apartment. And our guest Peter was there to witness it all believe it or not. We discuss this fascinating and disturbing story coming up. We also discuss Peter's mother, model Rosalee Cavlert who might have been the most famous model of the 1950s and 1960s. In fact, while she did act, she often played a model in films like Made in Paris and The Oscar, both starring host Josh Mills' mother, Edie Adams. We talk about Peter's time with his mother growing up pretty much in poverty while somehow living in an exclusive enclave of Los Angeles. The story Peter weaves about how this happens is fascinating. Along the way we discuss couture designer James Galanos, Atlantic Records music mogul Ahmet Ertegun, how Coe escaped the Nazi's, the cult rock band Sparks, Bela Lugosi, having dinner with Mel Brooks, grade Z actor Paul Marco & much more. Peter is nothing if not self-effacing, straight forward, funny, matter of fact and quite happy to tell us both the good and the bad of growing up the child of a celebrity. Take a listen. Everyone has a story. Rarely are they this unique.

For the past few months, as we've both ramped up for and made our way through our series on the work of David Lynch, our Patron subscribers have been hearing us make our way through his landmark series TWIN PEAKS. We covered every episode of the first two seasons before making our way through the revived third season (known as THE RETURN) from 2017. What we have for you this week is part 1 of a three-part discussion about this third season of Twin Peaks. To start, we submit to you the episode that our Patrons heard last week, in which we dissect our immediate feelings about the final two episodes of the third season. ***Major spoiler warnings if you have not yet watched the end of Twin Peaks: The Return***We present this to you ahead of our second part tomorrow wherein we dive deeper (and more vulnerably) into the themes of what this particular television season conjured in our hearts and minds. We'll follow that up with a very special roundtable discussion with some friends new and old who share their thoughts with us about The Return as well.We hope you enjoy this special three-part episode presentation and we'll see you at the curtain call!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
An FBI agent with an odd connection to a serial killer discovers cryptic clues to a pattern of murders that hits close to him.Longlegs is successful in blending a true crime vibe with the occult and is overshadowed by the creepy and unsettling performance of Nicolas Cage. The film had great marketing efforts to really build up tension and create that ominous mystery that leaves the viewer haunted by the presence and evil depicted by the murders in the movie. Maika Monroe has a standout performance in her effort as the FBI agent assigned to the murders that are spanning through decades. While Longlegs is a movie that will work for some, it may not land the same way for others, but certainly was shot and acted very well. Video games and movies seem like a perfect fit. For whatever reasons, adaptations done in either direction do not seem to work so well. Over the past few years, there have been a number of familiar horror franchises turned into games. They have been multiplayer affairs with limited shelf life. What makes the Hellraiser video game different? We really enjoyed In a Violent Nature. It was unique, had some great kills, and had an excellent big bad. It left itself open for a sequel, but is that a good thing? Can a movie shot in this style sustain a franchise or should it be left alone? We talk about the next installment and talk about our reservations.Shaw Studios is responsible for some of the most influential and well-regarded kung-fu movies of all time. Even those who have never seen any of their films are likely familiar with names like Five Deadly Venoms and The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. The Battle Wizard definitely belongs on that list.Awesome martial arts fights. A villain with extending metal legs that can break rock. Limb cutting lasers. A protagonist that eats exotic animals. The Battle Wizard has it all and then some. And in between all the wackiness it has a surprisingly well written will they/won't they love story that will gross you out until it warms your heart.Terrestrial has a lot going for it. Its director helmed Hot Tub Time Machine and co-wrote Grosse Pointe Blank and High Fidelity. The cast includes Jermaine Fowler and Pauline Chalamet. The premise is a fan favorite that has been used in screwball comedies and sitcoms. So, what happened? The writing is surprisingly dodgy. There is a science fiction aspect that does nothing to the story but seems like it is supposed to be something very important. Even worse, the characters are very poorly done. Most tellingly, Terrestrial goes out of its way to turn the main character into an awful person that is impossible to get behind. Which makes the movie impossible to enjoy. Welcome to your favorite Zombie Movie Podcast — Dead Man Still Walking. In this 53rd edition of DMSW, host Dr. Walking Dead (Kyle William Bishop) welcomes special guest Jay of the Dead for a Take 2, spoiler-filled conversation about Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later (2025), the long-awaited third installment in the iconic, infected zombie film franchise. Both Kyle and Jay express their love for 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later, setting the stage for a comparison and assessment of this latest entry. Dr. Bishop offers analytical insights while fielding Jay's many questions about the new film. In fact, Kyle addresses the oft-asked question of why there was never a “28 Months Later,” providing context and spawning speculation about sequels and even unlikely prequel concepts. As with most zombie-related conversations, this discussion includes the legacy of George A. Romero, whom Kyle credits as the grandfather of both the re-animated dead and the infected zombie sub-genres. Together, Kyle and Jay explore the mysteries of zombie evolution over nearly three decades, while including — of course — a chat about the anatomical and gestational nuances of these infected beings. This show proudly constitutes Episode 153 of Jay of the Dead'sNew Horror Movies, and is an essential listen for fans of zombie cinema, combining scholarly insight with genuine fandom, as well as a loving critique of Boyle and Garland's infected hellscape as we return to it 23 years later. In a somewhat unconventional episode this week, we tackle some of David Lynch's early short films. Specifically, his early works Six Figures Getting Sick (Six Times); The Alphabet; The Grandmother; The Amputee; The Cowboy and the Frenchman; and Lumiere, or Premonitions Following an Evil Deed.In this brisk, energetic episode, we debate the value of these early works and their influence on things we would see in his later films. Also featuring a Patron-only spot where we discuss James Gunn's latest treatment of SUPERMAN, this is a breezy and laugh-filled episode this week that we really hope you enjoy.Patron Only Segment: Superman (2025)4:29 - The Short Films of David LynchSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

They also read a couple of Spotify comments, talk about movies recently watched, and as always, stay tuned until the end of the episode to hear what Scotty has chosen for their next movie."The Monkey" stars Theo James as a pair of twins who find an old wind-up monkey that randomly kills someone every time it plays its drum.Feel free to send us a message! A deaf and mute author, living in isolation, is visited at night by a masked predator threatening her life. Hush takes home invasion horror to new heights by pitting a masked killer up against a writer who is living in the woods alone and doesn't have the ability to hear or speak. Mike Flanagan, who has made a name for himself with several successful horror movies and tv shows, creates a tense atmosphere in this movie that continues to build over the duration of the film. What appears to be a hopeless situation is countered by the protagonist's inability to give up and be a worthy adversary.
