English born guitarist Stephen Chesney grew up in a musical household in Essex not far from the Sonuus homebase of Cambridge in East Anglia. Picking up the guitar at age 6 has given him plenty of time to go through every bit of gear imaginable along the way. After moving to the United States in the mid 2000's, Stephen toured with a nationally touring act playing venues from House of Blues to Arenas and festivals across the US.In 2012 Stephen relocated to Los Angeles where he has jammed with the likes of drummer Chris Frazier (Steve vai/Whitesnake) vocalist Eric Dover (Slash's Snakepit/Jellyfish) Matt Laug (Christina Augilera/Alanis Morrisette/Slash) and more. However, most importantly he began work on his first solo effort, assembling a band fronted by Warrant/Cry of Love/Lynch Mob vocalist Robert Mason along with Ace Frehley/Brides of Destruction drummer Scot Coogan, Edgar Winter Band bassist Koko Powell, Slash/Loggins & Messina Sax player Jim Wheeler and Ray Charles' trumpet player Mitch Manker. Both live and in the studio, Stephen now uses the Sonuus Wahoo as his Wah of choice along with the i2M musicport to help compose, arrange and orchestrate various instrumentation for not only his songs, but other artists that he works along side as a producer such as Cee-Lo Green/2ne1 guitarist and songwriter Sharon Aguilar.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Sammy Hagar is up first this week. His new song "Encore, Thank You, Goodnight" is out now. Sammy talks about the song, how it came to him in a dream, and why Wolfgang Van Halen didn't play on it. Sammy is really upfront and candid when he talks, which is appreciated. He also shared his thoughts on playing the last Ozzy/Black Sabbath show and the songs he'll be singing. Doug Aldrich from The Dead Daisies is next. Doug fought a cancer battle last year and talked about that. I'm very happy that he's come out of it, and he says he gets stronger every day. The band dropped a new album called Looking For Trouble, where they cover classic blues songs. He told me how the idea came about and spoke about the recording process and location. He also shared stories of rockers, including David Coverdale of Whitesnake, Ronnie James Dio, Reb Beach, and the first time he met Randy Rhoads. I could talk to Doug all day! Finally, singer Nate Peck joins me. This is the first time I've ever had the chance to speak with Nate. The Michigan-born singer talks about being on American Idol, through getting the job with Firehouse. The first gig they played, he didn't even get to rehearse! Nate speaks of his influences, singing these classic songs, and lots more. It was great to connect with Nate!
Youtube FacebookImaginepeakstudios.comMatthewhartleymusic.comBio Born into and immersed in music, Matthew Hartley, Charleston-based Christian Rocksongwriter, embodies the importance of valuing your journey. His own life runs parallelto his creative process, and while he may be curious about the outcome, he's notconcerned by it.Rather, he's ignited by the lessons, growth, and opportunities that come from honoringyour process and pursuing your passions regardless of your circumstances. As young as 8 years old, Matthew recalls always having a notebook by his side to writedown lyrics anytime they channeled through. He grew up in the era of vinyl records andcassette tapes, jamming to hair bands like Poison, Whitesnake, Van Halen, and BonJovi. He was enamored by the power of rock and listened for sheer enjoyment.Influenced by the genre's raw energy at a young age, we timelapse to Matthew as anadult, where his life experiences led him to rediscover a faith he had always carriedwithin him. While the emotional conviction of rock shaped his guitar playing andsongwriting style, it was his life's journey that naturally integrated Christian themes intohis music. He shares an example of when he wrote his first Christian rock song in 2001 called“Rise Above," which marked a reckoning with his own sins, and an acknowledgmentthat things had to change. However, while he was growing in character, he recalls that itwasn't until later in life that he embraced the true blessing of faith when faced withanother hardship. He elaborates on a time he went through a debilitating divorce, and as he navigated thepainful disentanglement from the complexities of family separation, he found himself athis lowest point. And in that moment of exhaustion and total breakdown, the lyrics:When your heart is bawling,You know that Heaven's calling …out your nameRepresent a pivotal point in his story. In his newest single, “Heaven's Calling,” Matthewshares that when you're at your most vulnerable it's exactly when God speaks theloudest. Heaven is calling your name to show you there is hope and love even in thedarkness.“God is working on you and he will get you through it. You have to have faith throughthe storm,” he states encouragingly.Another theme in “Heaven's Calling,” that Matthew unravels is the humanity that birthsfrom devastation. In the May 18th premier of the “Heaven's Calling” music video, thereare images of hurricane damage, flooding, and rescue missions from the disaster.Hitting close to home, literally and figuratively, Matthew shares that after the destructionof Hurricane Helene in 2024, he witnessed firsthand the valor of those rescuing, theheart of those helping, and the resilience of those who survive a natural disaster.“Love is powerful; the best of people through devastation is remarkable,” he says.“And for those, Heaven's calling [too].”In conjunction with the hurricane footage and rescue scenes, other parts of the musicvideo feature Matthew performing on rooftops around downtown Charleston withdifferent historic backdrops like St. Michael's Church, Cannon Park, and the CharlestonCity Market. After building a storyboard and scouring the city for permits and approvals to shootdifferent church features and historic sites, Matthew and his team creatively, andthoughtfully sewed all the pieces together. Part of obtaining those permits involvedsubmitting the song's lyrics, and it was serendipitous, almost as if the city was equallyonboard about spreading his message. With the success of it all, he was able to literallysing from the rooftops that “Heaven's calling out… your name.”While reflecting on the development of the project, which he shares was his favoriteaspect of it all, he emphasized the gratification of creating something from nothing.“To do that is such a blessing. It's a process of creation, and you have to be flexible andfluid and enjoy the ride. It's not about the money or the outcome - it's about the journey”he says.He also humbly noted that he couldn't do it alone. He knew that bringing his vision tofruition required collaboration and the culmination of many parts from key producers andsession musicians, to cinematographers and municipalities.Pulling back the curtain even more, Matthew began writing the song at the beginning of2025, and with his melody, lyrics, and chord structure in place, he set out to find high-quality professionals to level up his creation. He gives a shout-out to David Kershenbaum, renowned producer for Tracy Chapmanand Duran Duran, who livened Matthew's vocals and musicality. Excited by the result,Matthew shares that “Heaven's Calling,” will be the first single in an upcoming EP.What's more, Matthew shares that a goal of this is that after learning from hisexperiences, he wants to share and impart lessons and resources to other musiciansembarking on creative endeavors through his production and publishing company,Imagine Peak Studios. When asked what words of advice he'd like to leave for readers and listeners alike, he reminds us: “Do not let your circumstances dictate your journey. Age or time is irrelevant, and if you have a passion for something just do it. Praise God. Love your family and neighbors. And, live your life.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

Interview by Kris PetersThe world lost a true legend earlier this year, when vocalist/guitarist John Sykes - Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy, Tygers Of Pan Tang - lost his battle with cancer. While his legacy endures thanks to the music he created, the world has still lost a musical innovator and pioneer with a gift for writing timeless music.Around eight years ago, Sykes entered into a contract with then-fledgling music label Golden Robot Records, agreeing to terms for a new album to be released through the company. But over the ensuing few years and as life and circumstances got in the way, all that was honoured by Sykes in that contract was four songs, written by him with a view to completing a full album down the track, that have until now remained locked away from the world in their original demo state.Since Sykes' passing, the label has gone to the vault and dusted off the cobwebs and had them professionally remixed and remastered by Aussie legendary producer Paul Gommersall (Paul Weller, George Michael, GNR).Paying respect to the music and legacy of John Sykes, Golden Robot decided to allow the music world at least six months to grieve the loss of Sykes before announcing their intentions to release the four songs - the first new music from Sykes in a quarter of a century - as a four-track EP.It was a decision taken with much respect to the situation, the man, and his music, but ultimately one which Golden Robot Records believes serves the best interests of fans and enables them to release material which was to form the nucleus of a full body of work.Golden Robot Global Entertainment's Mark Alexander-Erber sat down with HEAVY to talk us through the release and the history behind four tracks, which could well be the final recording the world hears from a man who has shaped so much of its history."John was introduced to me during the formative days of Golden Robot Records' journey in Los Angeles," Mark explained. "The label officially launched around 2015, and by 2017 we had entered into an agreement with John for a full-length studio album. The original contract was straightforward — John was to deliver a minimum of ten tracks for a complete album.""As per the terms of the agreement, we made an initial payment to John, and everything was progressing well. John preferred to work at his own creative pace, which we respected. The understanding was that upon delivery of additional material, a second tranche of payment would be made. However, as time went on, it became clear that what we had originally paid for and what was ultimately being delivered were two very different things.""That said, we approached the situation the way we always have at Golden Robot — through open communication and a commitment to the relationship. Like many bands we worked with in those early years, it was never just about rigid contractual enforcement; it was about navigating challenges together in good faith.""In the end, what we received were four absolutely outstanding demos — powerful, compelling tracks that truly reflect John's immense talent and artistic voice. While it wasn't the full album we initially set out to produce, those recordings have tremendous value, and we're proud to be the ones bringing them to the world."In the full interview, Mark provided detailed insights into his professional relationship with John Sykes, which commenced in 2017. He acknowledged that while not all contractual obligations were fulfilled to the letter, all parties involved reached mutual compromises in good faith. Mark expressed sincere appreciation for their personal and professional relationship, noting the importance of approaching sensitive matters with discretion and respect. The discussion also included specifics regarding the forthcoming 4-track EP, which will feature two previously unreleased songs along with remastered versions of two existing tracks. Mark confirmed that the estate of the late artist will receive the royalties as stipulated under the terms of the agreement. He conveyed confidence in the artistic and technical quality of the recordings, stating that the work pays a respectful and authentic tribute to John's legacy. The release strategy includes the rollout of two singles ahead of the EP, with the first single scheduled for release in late June through Golden Robot Records on a global basis. We discussed Mark's personal relationship with John and the decision to delay releasing the songs after John's death, and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Really thrilled to be joined once again by one of the most in demand drummers in Rock n Roll, Brian Tichy back again for Part 2! We once again delve into Brian's amazing career, we kick off talking about Brian's time at the revered Berklee college of music in 1986 and how a drum clinic by a young (26 years old) Dave Weckl inspired him and still does to this day. Brian's enthusiasm and love for music shines through more than any other person i have ever spoken too, he delights in telling us about how he felt learning his first few simple grooves on the drums and the excitement that this brought him. We also talk about his current gig with the legendary Gene Simmons from Kiss! Kiss were the band that grabbed his attention as a young boy and how it felt when he got the call offering him in the gig. I have loved speaking to Brian for both of these episodes, he speaks total sense and has almost a childlike joy for music, be it making it or listening to it, i dare you to listen to these converstions and not be inspired by them. what a wonderfuly guy. Thanks Brian.

On the 63rd Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, the co-host of the Growin' Up Rock Podcast, Steven Michael, review the self-titled 1987 breakthrough album from Whitesnake. Whitesnake was a veteran British blues hard rock band with limited success in the United States. By 1987, David Coverdale wanted to change the band's style and image to a more Americanized version. He started with the music. The album is considered Whitesnake's "hair Metal" phase. The band was always a double guitar band, but this time, guitarist extraordinaire, John Sykes would contribute all the guitars and assist in the lyrics. Long time bassist, Neil Murray was on board as was top notch drummer, Aynsley Dunbar. Finalizing this lineup is Shout It Out Loudcast's favorite, Don Airey. After the music was completed, Coverdale proceeded to fire all the band members and hired an all star lineup to tour and more importantly appear in the MTV videos, including, Vivian Campbell, Adrian Vandenberg, Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldrich. But, more importantly he added his then fiancée, Tawny Kitaen to their videos and the band and the album exploded. Songs like "Here I Go Again" and "Is This Love" made it to Number 1 and 2 on radio respectively. The videos were all over MTV. The album was produced by Mike Stone and Keith Olsen. The album made it to Number 2 on the Billboard Charts and went 8X Platinum. The success of the band is credited to Coverdale's amazing vocals and frontman capabilities and John Sykes legendary melodic guitar work. However, the videos and Tawny Kitaen's impact cannot be overstated. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was the Patreon pick. Please make sure you join! Davey Oberlin joins Marc Matthews to reveal how he transforms classic rock anthems into synthwave masterpieces through his project, All The Damn Vampires.Davey breaks down his cover of Whitesnake's Is This Love, uncovering the creative process behind reinterpreting rock songs in a different musical style. From drop F guitar tunings that create wall-shaking heaviness to vocal production techniques that achieve 80s aesthetics in modern synthwave production, every decision is made with precision. This week on America's Podcast, we dive into the self-titled debut of Blue Murder—an album packed with enough guitar wizardry to make even your air guitar feel inadequate. But does it still rock as hard as its reputation, or is it just another relic of hairspray-fueled excess? No spoilers, but let's just say we have thoughts. We also take a moment to honor the late, great John Sykes, a guitar hero who shredded his way into rock history. His influence is undeniable, but does this album showcase his finest work? Tune in to find out! And of course, our Tracks of the Week bring the heat: Mooger channels the energy of Dreamstate's "Dayseeker." Marc gets nostalgic with Whitesnake's "Bad Boys." Jerry introduces us to Blueburst's "Vanish." Until next time, as Casey Kasem used to say—Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars (and maybe a good distortion pedal while you're at it! #bluemurder #johnsykes #rockpodcast

It is with heavy hearts that we deliver this week's episode honoring the passing of a guitar hero giant who also happened to be an awesome singer and songwriter: John Sykes. He was a guitarist deserving of the title guitar god who rarely got mentioned in the same circles as the Satches, Vais, Rhodes, and Van Halens. Most known for his brief stint in Thin Lizzy at the end of their career and as a brief member of Whitesnake. He should have been a household for playing on the Whitesnake 87 album that sold 25M records worldwide, but he was fired before it came out. Kevin's a huge fan of Blue Murder, so we will focus on that band and some of the lesser-known projects he was involved in while also paying homage to his mainstream successes. New to InObscuria? Typically, what we do is exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Rest In Peace John.
