I also experienced various prejudices in the church world due to my gender, and given these different gender roles assumptions and misunderstandings throughout church history, women have been misunderstood, disempowered at times, and perhaps a. bit confused on exactly how to settle into the power they're meant to embody in this life. So, buckle up, this is a great episode that will make you, or the woman in your life, feel empowered in who she is and what she is meant to be. Spoiler: God has a special name for woman that he doesn't use for anyone else, except himself. ;) ABOUT GUEST: Hannah Conway is a Social Media Marketing & Communications Coordinator and Women's Ministry Director. You've heard it said before that you can't know WHO you are unless you know WHOSE you are. Our guest, Hannah Conway, is a speaker, podcaster and author of a new devotional called “In Case You Forget.” She zeros in on the importance of knowing our identity so that we can stay on mission and be effective, unshaken and foundationally sound in our faith. Hannah brings us to God's Word for all the things, and takes us deeper by asking better questions about identity such as “God, who are YOU?” and “How can I reflect who you are in this situation?” You'll learn some practical ways to combat lies with the truth and be inspired to share with your kids!   Ready to hear how you can teach kids about their identity, in case they forget? Why is this? Why do we feel the need to wait for permission? There are no unwritten rules that say we have to, and in this episode, author Hannah Conway describes how she chose to get around theological barriers to her fulfilling the call of God on her life... without waiting for permission! More children and teens wrestle with anxiety than ever before. Sometimes moms and dads feel powerless to help their children escape the grip of chronic anxiety. Today our guest Hannah Conway shares several simple, practical strategies that can deescalate the general level of worry, tension, and anxiety your children experience. As we continue to create a household of engagement and encouragement, we equip our children to face their own challenges, make wise decisions, and live without the need to be rescued from every small challenge.    Listen as we discuss: The physiological reality of why young teenagers seem to “lose their mind”. The importance of knowing whose you are in order to know who you are. Strategies parents can employ when it feels like anxiety is cranking up in the home including:  Take a deep breath. Literally! Be in the Word, and remind yourself of the Word. Pray for your kids, pray with your kids.  Open communication, dinner table conversations with guided topics.  Letting them deal with consequences to learn resiliency.  Bringing healthy adult mentors into your children's life.   Bio: Hannah R. Biz Gone Social Lorraine Duncan pt 1 Today, I am thrilled to introduce a truly inspiring guest who has embraced the power of social media to transform her business and reach unprecedented heights of success. For over three decades, our guest, Lorraine Duncan, worked hand in hand with her husband, diligently running their family business. They tirelessly employed traditional networking and relationship-building methods to connect with potential clients. However, everything changed when Lorraine discovered the immense potential of social media. The world opened up before her eyes, as she realized the incredible ease with which she could forge meaningful connections with thousands upon thousands of prospective clients, all from the comfort of her own home. It was a game-changer that revolutionized her approach to business and set her on a path to new and unimaginable achievements. But Lorraine's story doesn't end there. Beyond her entrepreneurial endeavors, she has devoted a significant portion of her life to missionary work through her church. For more than seven years, she held the esteemed role of Women's Ministry Director, guiding and empowering women within her community. Her heart for service took her to far-flung places like Belize and Kenya, where she played a pivotal role in building a school, overseeing the operations of an orphanage, and even establishing a sports camp. Furthermore, Lorraine took on the admirable task of teaching and mentoring women leaders, empowering them with the knowledge and skills needed to make a lasting difference in their own communities. Today, we have the privilege of delving into Lorraine Duncan's extraordinary journey—a story that demonstrates the power of embracing new technologies while staying grounded in the values of service and compassion. Join us as we uncover the secrets to her astounding success and glean invaluable insights that can transform our own lives and businesses. Get ready to be inspired as we dive into the fascinating world of Lorraine Duncan—a true trailblazer in business, community service, and the art of building lasting connections in our digital age. I get connection requests all the time. I try to review the profiles of those who reach out to see if it is really someone I want to be connected with. Some of the connection request have no posts, etc. Those are the ones I outright reject. How careful should we be in determining who we allow as a follower on our social media platforms? Have you ever been “banned” or put on a “time-out” by a social media profile? You also have a weekly podcast, the “Biz Gone Social Podcast.” How long have you been podcasting? This is mainly an interview style podcast, correct? What are you looking for in a person or business that would make a great guest for your show? Lorraine, this has been so interesting… But there is one more question I have before we close. Can you explain a special service I seen on your website called, “Rent a Baby?” Lorraine, like I said, this has been so interesting. If someone wanted to get in touch with you, to ask a question, view the programs you can assist them in, or perhaps do an interview such as this… how can they do that? How can someone get in touch with you? I'll put links to all of this...

Help me welcome to the program, Lorraine Duncan!  Lorraine, it is such a blessing to have you on the program today! First question I always ask is this. Other than that brief information I just shared, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is Lorraine Duncan?” Before we jump into the use of social media, share with us some of the life changing experiences you had in your missionary work. What was it like the first time you went on a missions trip? I always recommend teenagers, just before leaving for college, they should go and spend at least two weeks on a mission trip to a third world nation. I believe it helps them to realize just how blessed we truly are here in this land. Have you been able to stay in touch or revisit those whom you helped in your mission work? Let's shift gears and move over into social media… I know social media can be very useful.  I was on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and all of that. But, one day, I realized four hours had gone by and had accomplished zero work on things I had to accomplish that day. It felt like I had been sucked into a giant vortex of comments, likes and shares and couldn't escape.  That's my...

Do you have any traditions, special dates, activities, or places that help you commemorate significant events in your life? Especially those events where God has done something for you? While traditions often revolve around major events such as the birth and resurrection of Jesus, they can also serve to celebrate personal moments—the little things maybe only you would recognize, such as how God answered a certain prayer, supplied for your need, or made himself incredibly known to you. Crickett Keeth is in the show today chatting about her favorite traditions and leaving a legacy. She asks us to consider what we are passing down to the next generation. Think about what heritage you want to give to your family and the significance your customs carry. How can you tell others of God's faithfulness by creating a new tradition of your own or by continuing a tradition that was passed on to you? Whatever traditions you and I practice, I pray they are rooted in biblical truth and keep God at the forefront so future generations can connect with him and connect with each other. Because if there is anything worth passing on, it is Him. What is your favorite tradition? Thomas, affectionately known as "Dr. A", is the teen mom turned doctor who helps women "SOAR" by teaching them how to apply the life-changing methods of mindset, resilience, and action to Slay Odds & Achieve Results! As a teen mother turned doctor, Dr. A certainly had the odds stacked against her. Raised in the crime-ridden streets of Detroit, her family was turned upside down at age 13 when her parents divorced and days later her mother was shot five times in her stomach by a hitman – and survived! Adding to the family turmoil, just three years after the shooting, Dr. A gave birth to her son while still in high school. Despite it all, she went on to earn three degrees and six figures before the age of 30, all while raising her son and working full-time! She later earned her fourth degree, a doctorate in just 2.5 years! She didn't just beat the odds, she crushed them! "Dr. A", has sustained success in her career as a healthcare executive and university professor. Her established career spanning over 20 years has led to national and international awards, presentations, and academic publications. As a Christian woman, wife, and mother, she dedicates much of her personal time to her family and to ministry in her local church, where she serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors, Women's Ministry Director, and Director of Education.

This month our hosts, Beth Whitney and Cole Harper, are joined by Sonja Warner to discuss influence, both gospel and secular, and opportunities for discipleship. Sonja and her husband moved to the Sacramento area in 1993 and began attending Arcade Church in 1999. Over the years, Sonja has been involved in leading small groups and women's Bible Studies. She served for a few years as Women's Ministry Director and currently volunteers at the Welcome Hub and in the library. Most recently, she is exploring the possibility of becoming a writer. Last year Sonja wrote a Bible Study on 1 Peter and is currently working on a study in Hebrews. During the day Sonja works as a bookkeeper for a local small business and is an avid reader with a special interest in history (because the best stories are always the true ones). She lives with her husband of 38 years and a sweet Yellow Lab named Molly.   If you have questions about today's episode, you can email them to info@arcadechurch.com   ------   Some Starting Points for Disciplers: If the idea of discipling another believer is new to you, or if it just feels overwhelming, that is okay. If you are a believer in Jesus and growing in your faith you are qualified!  Here are a few suggestions to help you get started: Pray! Ask God to open your eyes to someone he wants you to disciple. Look around and see who he has placed in your life; and keep an open mind because it might not be someone you would immediately think of. When God puts someone on your heart or in your path, invite them to coffee (or lunch). Take some time to get to know them. Learn their story; what has their faith-walk been like up to now? What are they afraid of, what are the things that encourage/discourage them? What areas of life are they looking to grow in? As the Holy Spirit leads, invite them to meet on a regular basis. Here are a few ideas for how to start: Read Scripture and discuss it together. You might want to start with one of the Gospels (especially if you're meeting with a new believer). Ephesians is also a rich book for discussion. Pray through the Psalms together. Use a study such as The Apostle's Creed by Tim Chester to discuss the essential truths of the faith. The Navigators really do publish an excellent selection of study guides for discipling others. Growing In Christ: A Thirteen-Week Follow-Up Course for New and Growing Christians is a good starting place for new believers. Their Design for Discipleship series covers many topics on the Christian life. Read a quality book together and discuss it. There are some excellent books on discipleship. Eugene Peterson's book A Long Obedience in the Same Direction is one of the best (in my opinion). Habits of Grace by David Mathis is another excellent choice. Remember there is no single, “right” way to do discipleship. Keep God's Word at the center and remember that your role is not to “fix” or change the other person. You are teaching them how to walk with God in their own circumstances; God will transform them as they do.

Have you ever wondered if your story matters? Does God see your struggle with mental health and the pain it brings to your life? Can you trust him with your hurt, your mental health, and to give you hope? In this episode, Stacee and Doug interview friend, Bible teacher, and ministry leader Vickey Banks about finding hope even in the most difficult seasons of life. Out of a wealth of knowledge, experience, and a passion for helping others connect the Bible to their everyday lives, Vickey visits with Stacee and Doug about God's immense love for those who struggle with mental health and the hope He can provide. For many, mental illness creates feelings of loneliness, isolation, and questions if anyone really understands or knows the depths of the hurt and struggle. Vickey shares with vulnerability about her own experience of feeling overwhelmed with loss, grief, and a sense of hopelessness and how God spoke to her words of hope and life through the Bible to bring a renewed mental peace and happiness back into her life. If you've struggled to connect with the Bible or have wondered if reading the Bible is for you, Vickey shares practical ideas and tools on how to begin reading the Bible and to find ways to apply it to your life. She also shares with Stacee and Doug some surprises which the Bible might offer those struggling with their mental health and trying to hang onto hope. Vickey Banks is passionate about helping women connect the dots between God's Word and their everyday lives. As an author, Bible study teacher, inspirational speaker and disciple-maker, she loves serving as Women's Ministry Director at Council Road Baptist Church, as a LifeWay Women's Ministry Trainer and as a member of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma's Women's Leadership Team. Episode Summary:  Our mindset matters. The choices we make matter. Our habits and disciplines matter. Join me with Jayne Patton as we talk about daily habits and practices we can put into place so that when we get up in the morning, our day is already off to a good start. Jayne also shares the one practice, above all else, that helps determine whether or not you're going to have a good day. Quotables from the episode: When we ask the Lord for His lens through which to view our situation, it changes our perspective and frames our day. We are told to put on the armor of God, and put on the garment of praise, but those are intentional choices we make to do what God has told us to do to fight our battles. A key to having a good day is not just to be in the word, but to saturate your life with God's word, actually believe what you are reading, and apply it to your everyday life. We are told that in this world we will experience trials. In order to have a good day despite the trials, we must take a pre-emptive approach and do what we can ahead of time to help foster a good day. When we have a cluttered environment, we also then tend to have a cluttered mind and a cluttered heart. By taking the time to clear your area of clutter the night before, you can awaken in a state of peace, and the clutter and chaos around you won't distract you from your quiet time with God. Think about the fact that the Creator of the Universe wants to spend time communicating with you personally. Are you going to deprive Him of that? Our homes should be a place of refuge and calm away from the stress and the chaos of the world. Scripture References: Psalm 118:24 “This is the day the Lord has made. She believes in crossing over denominational lines to bring the gospel in a way that is powerful and relevant. Her prayer is that God uses her personal presentation style to bring others to a deeper level of understanding of the scriptures. She married her husband Mike in 1999 and together they have 3 children.  In 1996, Jayne graduated from Missouri Baptist University with a B.A. in Business Administration with a minor in Management. She left a lucrative sales career soon after the birth of her first child, and entered into the world of women's ministry via the local church through facilitating Bible studies, hosting events, speaking locally, and more. Before launching Altered Ministries, she currently holds the position of Women's Ministry Director for her local church, and has worked with government officials regarding the plight of persecuted Christians worldwide.  Jayne is a popular speaker at events, conferences, banquets, and churches through her inspirational and motivational speaking. Episode Summary: If you've ever struggled in marriage or have friends or loved ones who struggle or maybe you just want to learn better how to love-wise, you've found the right episode! I talk with Relationship Specialist, Pam Farrel, not just about loving the mate God gave us but also about how to love well. Quotables from the episode: Sometimes wisdom breeds willingness to change. The Farrels encourage a confident covenant, which are rules of engagement during disagreements. Don't be interested in just solving a marital problem, but also fall in love with that person again. Men are like waffles, women are like spaghetti. Women move from one issue to many different issues, but then tie it all up together, like spaghetti while men like to keep individual issues in separate boxes, and resolve each box before moving on to another box. Men park in their boxes, often not thinking about anything, while women misinterpret their silence. In olden days, you pulled together because you had to just to survive. So emotional needs were not high on the list at that point. Today we have a different view of survival and includes “Am I feeling satisfied? Am I feeling peaceful? Am I feeling fulfilled?” If our spouse isn't making us happy, we mistakenly believe someone else out there will. We live in a social media driven society, where we only get to see others' highlights, and people don't see the real work that has to be done, and how God meets our needs to pull us through. Valentine's Day is like a double-edge sword. For singles and widows, get a plan in place before Valentine's Day. There are many around you who are feeling the same way.  Ways to encourage your spouse: Let your spouse you know you admire them. Commend your spouse in front of their friends or colleagues. Warm-up to an idea by asking questions for more details of their idea. Let you know you are praying for them. Enthusiastically embrace one of their opinions. It only takes one breakthrough. You're only one breakthrough away from a stronger relationship. The last thing we should do when we're struggling in our relationships is to isolate. We need community and the support of others. Scripture References: Proverbs 19:8 “The one who gets wisdom loves life.” 1 John 4:19 “We love each other because he loved us first.” Ephesians 4:2-3 “With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." Inspire Women's Conference is bringing the breakout sessions to the Inspire On The Go Podcast! In this episode, we hear from one of our friends, Shelly Chandler! Some may know her, but for those who don't, Shelly is an Inspire Coordinator as well as Women's Ministry Director at her local church in Conway, Arkansas. She's also Network Ministry Leader for Central Arkansas. She's married to Michael Chandler and has 3 boys, so you know she knows the hectic lifestyle. Shelly dives into fear and how it's presented to us in the Bible by God. Did you know that the phrase 'fear not' or something similar to that is in the Bible 365 times? It's serious business for God, and Shelly dives into Romans 8:15 and Matthew 8:26 to teach us what that phrase should mean to us and how we can use it to fear God in the way he intended. Do you know someone going through chronic pain? What about someone dealing with enormous grief? Vickey Banks is our guest today and she gives us such an abundance of wisdom, especially relating to both of those scenarios. Get ready to take some great notes! Vickey is a wife, mom, grandmother, author, blogger, speaker, and Women's Ministry Director. She's doing all the things! She is going to share about a time when she went through years of chronic pain, and also when she lost several family members in a span of 2 months! Some great takeaways are these thoughts: when you have a thankful heart, you start seeing things differently; there is a reason God has us in community; and most of all, we can use Scripture as a weapon. Vickey also talks about the reality that trauma doesn't end when the event ends. It only ends when we've named it and dealt with it. You are going to love hearing her gracious heart. This is part one in the series: What's happening with the abortion debates in America? Jeff interviews Alabama columnist Dana Hall McCain to talk about the headline news made by her state's new pro-life bill. Last week was momentous for the pro-life movement as state government in Alabama as well as those in Georgia, Tennessee, and Missouri enacted new laws prohibiting abortion. All this attention then catalyzed new nationwide conversations about life, women, and the unborn. Dana's column last week, The abortion pendulum is moving, places the Yellowhammer State bill in the national discussion and makes sense of how the church should engage in this cultural moment. Guest Biography Dana Hall McCain is a columnist for Alabama Media Group, focusing on topics of faith and politics. Her work appears on the AL.com website, as well as in the Huntsville Times, the Birmingham News, and the Mobile Press-Register. She has previously written for a variety of faith-based platforms about issues affecting women's ministry, marriage and parenting. Dana has served her home church and numerous parachurch ministries as a Bible study leader, Women's Ministry Director, and small group leader. One of her greatest joys is serving as a mentor to pregnant women at her local Christian pregnancy resource center, Wiregrass Hope Group. Dana and her husband, Greg “Scooter” McCain are parents to two children.
