Hang out with us as we explore what happened behind the scenes during the writing of Twister, the 1996 blockbuster movie Twister, with a special guest, my cousin Kate!Twister is an action film and screwball romance featuring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. Writer Michael Crichton conceived it as a combination of the classic romantic comedy "His Girl Friday" and a PBS documentary about storm chasers he had seen on TV.Helen Hunt portrays Jo, a meteorologist whose father was swept away by a tornado when she was a child. She has devoted her life to researching tornadoes and has created a device designed to collect essential data in the midst of severe weather systems. Her estranged husband, Bill Paxton, has left his tornado days behind and is ready to settle down with a new woman, Jami Gertz. The NFL, and by proxy the Pittsburgh Steelers, are now in the dead period of the offseason schedule, but that doesn't mean there is nothing to learn from after Mandatory Minicamp has wrapped up. When it comes to going inside the locker room, getting someone new to the role as beat reporter provides a unique, and fresh, set of eyes on the team preparing for 2024. That's why Aaron Becker of YardBarker was a great guest for this Monday Morning Conversation on this Monday "Let's Ride" podcast with host Jeff Hartman. Locked On Big 12 - Daily College Football & Basketball Podcast
As reported on by Yardbarker.com, Duke finds itself the subject of enticing overtures from another conference. According to Tim Montemayor, a former radio host based in Salt Lake City, the Big 12 is actively pursuing Duke. Montemayor, citing well-informed sources, disclosed the Big 12's aggressive stance in targeting ACC basketball membership, with Duke as their primary objective, intending to pair the university with Gonzaga. In the realm of collegiate basketball, the Big 12 has been fervently attempting to entice Gonzaga from the West Coast Conference into its fold, albeit without success thus far. Montemayor emphasized the Big 12's aspiration to fortify its standing as a preeminent basketball conference by securing both Duke and Gonzaga. Further insight provided by Montemayor suggests that Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark is actively cultivating relationships in anticipation of potential upheaval within the ACC. Yormark appears to be strategically positioning the Big 12 to capitalize on any forthcoming opportunities, with an eye towards potential free agency post-ACC dissolution. The ACC currently faces legal challenges from Clemson and Florida State regarding exit fees and grant of rights within the conference. The prospect of Clemson and FSU departing for alternative conference affiliations looms large, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the ACC's future. Despite extending lifelines to Stanford and Cal from the Pac-12, the ACC's position, particularly in football, would be significantly weakened in the event of Clemson and FSU's departure. Such instability may present an opportune moment for Yormark and the Big 12 to seize upon. Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

Today on The Future of Fandom, get invested in the ways cheering for your favorite performer has evolved over time, from idol worship to surrogate coaching and quasi friendship, through the eyes of Pete Vlastelica from Elysian Park Ventures, the private investment arm of the LA Dodgers ownership group. Pete made a splash in sports journalism as the founder of Yardbarker before being acquired by Fox Sports, and most recently, serving as CEO of Activision Blizzard Esports before joining Elysian Park. He's a battle tested champion of democratizing access to athletes and entertainers, and he's turned his eye today to wellness. We deep dive on how fans are craving more relatability and accessibility than ever before and of course, talk about how that affects the content and experiences, which we all see today and going forward. Pete has seen that as an operator and now broadly as an investor, which is a first for us here on the show. You gotta love when a beautiful game on Saturday leaves you all hyped up for the games to come on Sunday! I also love that last week, we showed some improvement with the picks! We've reached week three (thank you Aaron Jones for reminding us in the thumbnail pic of what week it is). Week three is usually when we start to really be able to hone in on what the true identity is of the 32 teams across the NFL. So either that theory will be proven right, or... I'll flop miserably this week. Either way, thank you so much for tuning in, and I hope you all enjoy! Thumbnail courtesy of YardBarker

Almost as soon as there were radio stations, there were college radio stations. In 1948, to popularize FM radio, the FCC introduced class D non commercial education licenses for low-watt college radio stations. By 1967, 326 FM radio signals in the United States operated as “educational radio,” 220 of which were owned and operated by colleges and universities. The type of programming that these stations offered varied widely, from lectures and sporting events, to various kinds of musical shows, but toward the late 1970s, a new genre of college rock appeared on the scene. Record labels took note as college DJs discovered up-and-coming new artists, although they sometimes stopped playing those artists once they made it big.Joining this week's episode is historian Dr. Katherine Rye Jewell, a Professor at Fitchburg State University and author of Live from the Underground: A History of College Radio. Our theme song is Frogs Legs Rag, composed by James Scott and performed by Kevin MacLeod, licensed under Creative Commons.
