!!Warning!! This episode contains some outrageous Afrikaans euphemisms! Paulo and Dori are joined by Noel Opperman, The Curator Supreme of the Pretoria Retro Fair for a deep dive into Liewe Heksie, among other puppet related things. We dispute the denials about a Goonies sequel - we just think they don't want Corey Feldman to show up. Jon Bon Jovi saves someone who was living on a prayer, Dori tries to hurry love fro the sake of finishing a Plex movie and Paulo has the Munchies. Finally, we reopen Wham! corner and we're glad to report that it's held its moistness. "Thank You, Goodnight" on Hulu, Jon Bon Jovi reflects on the band's 40th anniversary in 2022, preparing for a tour with an extensive three-week rehearsal, an unusual length compared to their typical four-day rehearsals. Jon shares his mixed feelings about the tour, oscillating between excitement and regret. Despite his successful career, Jon emphasizes that his passion for music drives him more than necessity. He recalls his non-musical upbringing, with his mother being a florist and his father a hairdresser, and how he developed an interest in music around the age of 12 or 13.Jon recounts his early struggles and determination, noting that he was never the best singer but had a strong work ethic that fueled his success. He mentions contemplating retirement in 2019 due to vocal issues, which he tried to address with multiple vocal coaches and medical treatments. Jon reminisces about sneaking into The Stone Pony in Asbury Park to watch performances by local legends like Southside Johnny and Bruce Springsteen, which inspired his own musical journey despite the initial lack of support for New Jersey artists.Jon shares his early experiences in the music industry, from the formation of his high school band, Atlantic City Expressway, to working as a gopher at the Power Station studio. He details the breakthrough with his song "Runaway," which, after being rejected by numerous record companies, became a hit on a new radio station, WAPP. This success led to his partnership with Richie Sambora, whose chemistry with Jon created magic. Jon and Richie's songwriting, particularly with hits like "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "Livin' on a Prayer," propelled Bon Jovi to stardom, culminating in their seminal album "Slippery When Wet."The documentary delves into the band's intense touring schedules and the personal and professional challenges they faced, including internal tensions and substance abuse issues. Jon reflects on the strain of constant touring and the need for band members to take breaks, leading to solo projects. He discusses the difficulties he faced with his voice and the subsequent surgery that required months of recovery, during which he questioned his future in music. Jon also recalls significant moments in the band's history, such as their manager Doc McGhee's legal troubles and their groundbreaking performance in Moscow.Despite the ups and downs, Jon emphasizes the band's resilience and evolving lineup, including the addition of Phil X as a guitarist when Richie Sambora left. The band's continued success, highlighted by their 2018 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, showcases their enduring legacy. The passing of original bassist Alec John Such in 2022 deeply affected Jon and the band, prompting reflections on mortality and the importance of their bond.In 2023, Jon faces new challenges with his voice but remains optimistic about his future in music. He highlights his commitment to philanthropy through the Soul Foundation and his ongoing creative endeavors, including plans for a new album. Despite considering retirement, Jon's passion for music and dedication to his craft continue to drive him forward, leaving the door open for future projects while expressing gratitude for his journey thus far.

For episode 3, season 3 of Song 2, we are this week heading into double-denim-ed poodle rock territory. New Jersey bound we go as we lap up the monumental rock anthem You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi. This iconic track captured the hearts of many in 1986 when it was released as the lead single from their classic album Slippery When Wet, cementing its way into the foundations of rock and roll history.
Ever felt that rush of nostalgia when a classic rock tune hits the airwaves? We're cranking it up a notch with a blast from the past as Nutley Nick—you know him as West Virginia Nick—joins us with his special Japanese version of Bon Jovi's "Slippery When Wet." Strap in for a ride through the history of New Jersey's rock icons, where we uncover the original album artwork that never made the cut and dissect the anthem that almost wasn't, "Livin' on a Prayer." We'll even toss in some good old debate: Is Jon Bon Jovi or Bruce Springsteen the true New Jersey hero?As we go track by track, we'll hit you with lesser-known facts that'll make even the most die-hard fans do a double-take. Just how does Desmond Child's songwriting mastery resonate with the working class? What's the connection between "You Give Love a Bad Name" and Bonnie Tyler? And let's not forget the harmonious showdowns—Richie Sambora's guitar solos meet anthemic choruses, making for a rock symphony that's stood the test of time. To cap it all off, we're pulling back the curtain on the music industry's inner workings: Did teenagers in New York really pick the hits? How do artists like Prince continue to influence music beyond the grave? And we've got a heartwarming story about Bon Jovi's lasting friendship with Skid Row's Dave "The Snake" Sabo. Whether you're here to reminisce or to discover the roots of rock 'n' roll, you're in for a treat that's as timeless as the classics we're celebrating.Support the showSounds:https://freesound.org/people/frodeims/sounds/666222/ Door openinghttps://freesound.org/people/Sami_Hiltunen/sounds/527187/ Eerie intro music https://freesound.org/people/jack126guy/sounds/361346/ Slot machinehttps://freesound.org/people/Zott820/sounds/209578/ Cash registerhttps://freesound.org/people/Exchanger/sounds/415504/ Fun Facts Jingle Thanks to The Tsunami Experiment for the theme music!!Check them out hereSUPPORT US AT https://www.buzzsprout.com/1984311/supporters/newMERCH STORE https://ol-dirty-basement.creator-spring.comFind us at the following https://oldirtybasement.buzzsprout.com WEBSITE ...

Formed in 1983, Bon Jovi broke onto the rock scene with their debut album, producing a few modest hits, but not quite making a splash. Their second album also made some noise on the airwaves, but didn't bring the success they desired. The third time had to be the charm. And in August 1986, Slippery When Wet hit record store shelves, introducing INSTANT smash hits like "Livin' on a Prayer," "You Give Love a Bad Name," "Wanted Dead or Alive," and more. Spending an incredible 9 1/2 months in the top five on the Billboard 200, Slippery When Wet enjoyed two of those months at #1, was the best-selling album of 1987, and introduced 80's glam metal to the global stage. Tune in with Ben & Chris as we break down this iconic album and its addictive tracks, learn about the philtrum and Mixolydian mode, and even make connections to R2-D2 and the U.S.S.R. Bon Jovi is an American rock band formed in 1983 in Sayreville, New Jersey. It consists of singer Jon Bon Jovi, keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, guitarist Phil X, and bassist Hugh McDonald. Original bassist Alec John Such quit the band in 1994, and longtime guitarist and co-songwriter Richie Sambora left in 2013. The band have been credited with "[bridging] the gap between heavy metal and pop with style and ease".In 1984 and 1985, Bon Jovi released their first two albums and their debut single "Runaway" managed to crack the Top 40. In 1986, the band achieved widespread success and global recognition with their third album, Slippery When Wet, which sold over 20 million copies and included three Top 10 singles, two of which reached No. 1 ("You Give Love a Bad Name" and "Livin' on a Prayer") Their fourth album, New Jersey (1988), was also very successful, selling over 10 million copies and featuring five Top 10 singles (a record for a glam metal album), two of which reached No. 1 ("Bad Medicine" and "I'll Be There for You"). After the band toured and recorded extensively during the late 1980s, culminating in the 1988–1990 New Jersey Tour, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora released successful solo albums in 1990 and 1991, respectively. In 1992, the band returned with the double-platinum Keep the Faith. This was followed by their biggest-selling and longest-charting single "Always" (1994) and the album These Days (1995), which proved to be a bigger success in Europe than in the United States, producing four Top Ten singles in the United Kingdom. Following a second hiatus, their 2000 album Crush, particularly the lead single, "It's My Life", successfully introduced the band to a younger audience, and the band considered this their comeback album. The band followed up with Bounce in 2002. The platinum albums Have a Nice Day (2005) and Lost Highway (2007) saw the band incorporate elements of country music into some of the songs, including the 2006 single "Who Says You Can't Go Home", which won the band a Grammy Award and became the first single by a rock band to reach No. 1 on the country charts. The Circle (2009) marked a return to the band's rock sound. The band also enjoyed great success touring, with both the 2005–2006 Have a Nice Day Tour and 2007–2008 Lost Highway Tour ranking among the Top 20 highest-grossing concert tours of the 2000s. After recording and releasing Because We Can in 2013, lead guitarist Richie Sambora left the band just before an April concert during the supporting tour to spend more time with his family. The band released their first studio album without Sambora, Burning Bridges, in 2015 and the follow-up album This House Is Not For Sale in 2016, the tour for which encompassed 2017–2019. Their most recent album 2020 (2020) was re-worked to include songs inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic and George Floyd protests; its supporting tour was delayed to 2022.Bon Jovi has released 16 studio albums, five compilations and three live albums. They have sold more than 130 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling American rock bands, and performed more than 2,700 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 34 million fans. Bon Jovi was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006, and into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. The band received the Award of Merit at the American Music Awards in 2004, and Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora were inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2009.

This is the album that turned heavy metal into pop, or started the hair metal genre of the 80's. Slippery When Wet was the third studio album by Bon Jovi, and would be their best selling album to date. The band was David Bryan on keyboards, Tico Torres on percussion, Alec John Such on bass, Richie Sambora on guitar, and Jon Bon Jovi on lead vocals and rhythm guitar.Bon Jovi deliberately targeted a mainstream audience with this album. They wrote 30 songs and auditioned them to teenagers in New York and New Jersey. The album's songs were then ordered based on the opinions of this teenaged focus group. The band collaborated with Desmond Child, a hall of fame songwriter who wrote songs like "I Was Made for Loving You" by Kiss and Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself for Loving You." Slippery When Wet would be the top selling album of 1987, and would go 12x platinum. It would also make Bon Jovi the first glam rock band to have two number 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 with "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "Livin' on a Prayer."Bon Jovi - the band, and Jon Bon Jovi as a soloist - would never leave the rock pantheon A-list after this album. Raise Your HandsJon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora wrote this one. It was the B-side to "You Give Love a Bad Name," and was not released as a single. If it sounds familiar you might be remembering it from a scene in the Mel Brooks film "Spaceballs."You Give Love a Bad NameThis is the first single from the album and would hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1986. Child, Bon Jovi, and Sambora re-wrote the song which started as a song for Bonnie Tyler called "If You Were a Woman (And I was a Man)" The video was directed by Wayne Isham, who was also directing videos for Motley Crue at the same time. Motley Crue felt betrayed that Wayne would direct a Bon Jovi video, since they were competing with each other at the time.I'd Die for YouThis song is a deeper cut with keyboard work reminiscent of the song "Runaway" from their first album. Wanted Dead of AliveThis track hit number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, and uses old west imagery to describe the lonely life of a rock star. Bon Jovi and Sambora would perform an acoustic version of this tune on the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards, and would inspire the network to create their "MTV Unplugged" series. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Glory of Love by Peter Cetera (from the motion picture The Karate Kid part II)This solo song from Chicago front man Peter Cetera was on the charts after being featured in the 1986 summer sequel starring Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. STAFF PICKS:Wild, Wild Life by Talking HeadsWayne leads off the staff picks with a critically acclaimed song from the Talking Heads album, "True Stories." The song was featured in the film "True Stories," a satirical comedy directed by David Byrne, front man for the Talking Heads. This was the third and last top 40 hit the band would create.Higher Love by Steve WinwoodBrian's staff pick is Winwood's first number 1 hit in the United States. Will Jennings wrote the lyrics, inspired by his experience with church in the deep South. Chaka Khan provides the backing vocals, enhancing the gospel feel of the song - a modern day hymn.Sweet Freedom by Michael McDonaldRob's staff pick was featured in the buddy cop movie "Running Scared," starring Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. This was the last top 10 hit to date for McDonald. In addition to his solo work, McDonald has worked with many musicians including Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, and most famously as lead vocalist for the Doobie Brothers, with which he is touring today.Venus by BananaramaBruce finishes the staff picks with a number 7 hit from an English pop group formed by the trio of Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey, and Keren Woodward. The original was released in 1969 by Netherlands group Shocking Blue. Bananarama began covering this song when they first formed in 1980, but didn't release the single until they had recorded original songs so they would be taken seriously as musicians. COMEDY TRACK:Big Fat Blonde by The RainmakersThe Rainmakers released their debut album in 1986. One of their fans was horror novelist Stephen King, who quoted the band's lyrics in some of his novels.
Was bitteschön soll man über Bon Jovi diskutieren?! The Legend of Sara de Soto Or You Give Love a Bad Name Sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of the lovely Sara de Soto. Mimi and Andrea explore the origins of this local legend.
"You Give Love a Bad Name" and "I'll Be There for You" were two big 80's hits for Bon Jovi. The mid-80's hair band blended rock, pop, and catchy choruses into iconic sing-along anthems. Each song was matched by music videos designed to make us feel like we were there. Decades later, do we still wish we were? Do the band's decidedly storyless videos feel timeless? And what kind of skin cream were Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora using then anyway? The Old Roommates play their parts and their games as they do a Bon Jovi rewatch. S4E10 aired at 7 pm on 11 March 2021. The show kicked off with Joe Bonamassa and a track called Bridge To Better Days which is something we should all be trying to build. Breakdown by G 'n' R really went down well, one of those songs you really feel like listening to and it doesn't disappoint. There was plenty to get your teeth into, punk from UK Subs, Ramones and the Clash, classics from ACDC, Megadeth and Black Sabbath, metal from Parkway Drive, Iced Earth and Pantera, and South African stuff from LA Cobra, Deadline, Rasskopleef! and The Uninvited. Raaskopleef! was a first not only for TSORR but for radio in general. It's a sort of cult band formed in Wellington in the Western Cape and this particular track called Elektrisiteit is a translation of Hunter S. Thompson's essay ' Electricity' . Hearing Bon Jovi's 'You Give Love a Bad Name' again was great, it has been ages, great guitar work from Richie Sambora, no wonder they got so huge. Other than that, a nice melancholy bit in the middle featuring Powderfinger, Hinder, Linkin Park, and Don Henley, and then we smashed it all up with 'Crazy Bitch' by Buckcherry, good times indeed. Artists featured: Joe Bonamassa, ACDC, Y&T, Guns 'n' Roses, Foo Fighters, Alice Cooper, Def Leppard, Disturbed, The Bloodhound Gang, Parkway Drive, Warren Haynes, Nirvana, Iced Earth, Megadeth, Bon Jovi, Tesla, The Clash, Ramones, UK Subs, Whitesnake, Desperado, LA Cobra, Deadline, Powderfinger, Hinder, Linkin Park, Don Henley, Buckcherry, The Dead Daisies, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Raaskopleef!, The Distillers, Black Sabbath, Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pantera, The Uninvited

2 Corinthians 6: You Give Love a Good Name | Today Kris Langham guides us through chapter 6 in the book of 2 Corinthians as we continue our journey on Through the Word.Journey 14 | The Fight of Your Life. If God loves me, why is life so hard? Better yet, why is serving God so hard?! Journey #14 examines ministry and misery, beginning with Job—a thought provoking story of suffering, friends, and faith. Then in 2nd Corinthians, Paul brings us to the very heart of what it means to serve God. It's an inside look at ministry, also known as the fight of your life. Next Philippians declares the joy and confidence that come from shared mission, even in the face of hard trials. 1 & 2 Timothy deliver Paul's advice to his young apprentice undergoing various trials in church leadership. Lindsay’s Show Notes on this episode: Think about what a number one fan is! Let’s use me for example… I love Bon Jovi. At one point in my life I would have said that I was Bon Jovi’s biggest fan. So that means… in you’re mind, their just the best- the ultimate! No matter what, they are awesome! I’m not focusing on the 5 songs that Bon Jovi made that totally flopped, not for a second! I’m focusing on You Give Love a Bad Name and Shot Through The Heart! We focus on the good and we get EXCITED about them… we go out of our way to give energy and effort towards them. We speak highly of them and our overall energy is so positive and happy This is exactly what you have to do for yourself! I really think it’s the best thing you can do for yourself. We’re talking about how to remove poison that may have been given to you in the past and how to ignore any negative talk that may be going on now. True self-confidence means of valuing your own opinion yourself myself more than anybody else’s opinion about you. And this self confidence has to be 100% based on your own thoughts - not the validation of your parents or your spouse… nobody! Here are some other things we cover that are so important for the process of becoming your own number one fan… Don't over judge yourself Kill negative thoughts Think positive Act positive Don’t compare yourself to other people You can’t let your fails kill your self confidence Take the time to get ready each day so you feel good about yourself Stand talk Speak clearly and directly Be grateful Smile Exercise Clear off your to do list Be organized I hope today’s episode helped you get one step closer to being your own number one fan! So you focus on your strengths instead of your weaknesses and the self talk going on in your head is all positive, you’ve killed the negative! Ping me on Instagram and let me know what you thought about this topic by commenting on my post about this episode. And if you didn’t know already, I have another podcast, called The Million Dollar Tan podcast where I talk about everything related to sunless tanning & having healthy and glowing skin that radiates. Check it out, I think you’ll like it! Thanks for listening… and cheers to being your own number one fan!

Bon Jovi once iconically sang, "You Give Love a Bad Name." It was an 80's anthem and an ode to big hair and arena rock. Today that song summarizes up the modern posture of the Evangelical church. Love no longer has a good name within Christianity. With the elections of 2016, the Evangelical Church in America showed us its true colors. 80% of white Evangelical voters signed up, part and parcel, for a narcissist, womanizing, bag of tanned flesh that became their new messiah. We're now in 2019 and they're certainly not turned off by Trump's first term. His bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia and inflammatory rhetoric only make them hornier. To conservative Christendom, Jesus is no longer their boyfriend. They believe that they are engaged in an existential struggle against a wicked enemy American liberals and the left. They believe that power and politics are part of their mission. They believe many things but none of them are the way of Jesus. The church has forgotten how to love, how to serve and how to sacrifice. They may say the right words, sing the right songs and quote the right scripture, but much of Christianity has forgotten how to love. When you forget how to love, you lose Jesus. When Christianity has lost Jesus, it's lost everything. Come along for the ride as we skewer through life, culture, and spirituality in the face of a changing world. www.SnarkyFaith.com

http://annettbone.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Observations-on-Calm-and-Chaos.png () Calm and chaos. Yin and yang. Navigating how to process these things. Such is life. Besides being a delightful experience, The 12th Annual MixMatch Dance Festival by Hart Pulse Dance Company inspired thoughts on calm and chaos. Session Summary:Freestyle Flow: The song You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi came to mind when I drove by a long standing food establishment. Driving by, the smells are intoxicating. But when I actually tasted it, I can hardly describe how bland it really was. So I say to that place, You give grub (food) a bad name. LOL Feature Presentation: My recent attendance at The 12th Annual MixMatch Dance Festival inspired observations on calm and chaos as follows: 1. What can be calm to one, can be chaotic to another, and that's okay. 2. Everybody is in leadership. Leadership position first has to be over yourself, then over others. 3. When things are chaotic, are you reacting or responding? 4. Decrease the time you are spending on certain things or obliterate them all together. More is not always better. 5. Find your peeps. No, not those marshmallow things. Just because a certain group of people don't welcome you, doesn't mean that another group won't embrace you. 7. When you experience chaos, you appreciate calm, and vice versa. The contrast of the various companies was a nice mix. 8. Get clarity about your sequences whether in your dance choreography or business processes. 9. Don't dwell on what you don't like. You can find something positive in everything if you choose. 10. Don't be apologetic for what you do like. The Mutants find out Leski is not doing so well, which gives them even more motivation to get to AnimaHerb; perhaps one of the scientists could be "persuaded" to help them. The mutants are also going to free the sentient zone ghouls who were kidnapped by scientists from AnimaHerb. Also, in this episode, Michael actually gets his car, the Infiltrator, to work and helps them out when they are faced with giant ants out in the zone! Also, in this episode, one of the mutants actually DIES! You will have to listen to find out who... As the first week of the new format comes to an end, what a better way to cap it off than with a Superhero Friday installment featuring Mrs The Real Brian! Miss Light, Sarah, herself joins the discussion to talk about the versus (yes, not verses, versus). Introverts vs Extroverts. Vegetarians vs Carnivores. In This Episode Some anti-Valentine's Day music. New music we're digging We love tea! Introverts vs Extroverts Vegetarians vs Carnivores Character Interview: Khan vs Khan Why Does She Keep Staring At Me? Happy Belated Valentine's Day! Though none of us here at the Real Brian Show care much to observe the fake holiday, we enjoy aspects of it... such as the doughnuts someone brought into work Tuesday morning or all of the ironic songs we can play for people we love. Brian gives us a taste of these non-Valentine's Day songs which include, but are not limited to: "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Love Stinks" and "Everybody Hurts". What's your go-to anti-Valentine's Day song? Along that same musical vein, we get some great music recommendations this week: Ruelle: Live Like Legends Venemy/Alexandra/Kedo: Paradise Mystery Ellogram: So Cold Hidden Citizens: Another One Bites the Dust, Land of Confusion Personally, I ran across a song this week that I had to share. I was introduced to it on The Irish and Celtic Music Podcast #296 (2-Hour Best Celtic Music Retrospective). The song is called "The Fisherman's Song" by Count 4dB. I couldn't find a great direct link, but you can check out thisReverb Nation playlist and play it from there. Support a Great Artist If you are not familiar with Brian C. Roll, that is a name you are going to want to Google. Brian will be sharing an interview with Brian in the next couple weeks, but in the meantime go check out Torchlight Society and a chance to get your hands on some original, fantastic artwork of your favorite, nerdiest things. One of the most successful and prolific writers and producers of all time, Desmond Child’s songs have resulted in nearly six dozen Top 40 singles on Billboard’s pop, rock, country, and R&B charts. His band Desmond Child & Rouge attracted the attention of Paul Stanley. He partnered with Child to write “I Was Made For Loving You,” which became a major hit for KISS in 1979. Desmond first collaborated with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora for Bon Jovi’s 1986 album, Slippery When Wet. That partnership resulted in the #1 hits, “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin’ on a Prayer.” Desmond has appeared as a co-writer on every Bon Jovi album since, co-writing additional hits such as “Bad Medicine,” “Born To Be My Baby,” “This Ain’t a Love Song,” and “(You Want To) Make a Memory.” He formed a similar alliance with Aerosmith, with whom he wrote the hits “Dude (Looks Like a Lady),” “Angel,” “What It Takes,” and “Crazy.” He co-wrote Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself for Loving You” and all of the tracks on Alice Cooper’s wildly successful Trash LP, including the hit single “Poison.” Not limited to the rock world, Child began branching out, co-writing pop songs such as Michael Bolton’s “How Can We Be Lovers,” as well as co-writing and producing “Just Like Jesse James” and “We All Sleep Alone” for Cher. In the late 1990s, he returned to his Latin roots, joining forces with Ricky Martin and scoring with several singles, inluding the #1 worldwide smash, “Livin’ La Vida Loca.” Among the many others artists who’ve recoded his songs are Cyndi Lauper, Megadeth, Ratt, Hanson, Robbie Williams, Roxette, Boyzone, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Bonnie Tyler, Hilary Duff, Vince Neil, Lindsay Lohan, Jonas Brothers, Meat Loaf, Scorpions, Sebastian Bach, INXS, Kelly Clarkson, Joss Stone, and Weezer. He was inducted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2008 and is the Chairman and CEO of the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame.
