Mit "Still Got The Blues" hat Gary Moore einen echten Stilwechsel hingelegt – weg vom Hard Rock, hin zum Blues Rock. "Still Got The Blues" erschien 1990 als Gary Moores achtes Solo-Studioalbum und war ursprünglich nur als Nebenprojekt gedacht. Doch mit dem dazugehörigen Titelsong überzeugte Moore seine Plattenfirma Virgin Records, die daraufhin sogar Blues-Legende Albert King einfliegen ließ, um bei dem Song "Pretty Woman" mitzuspielen. Ich glaube, was die Plattenfirma überzeugt hat, war, dass Garry Moore so 100% hinter diesem Projekt stand, das war so ein richtiges Herzensprojekt. Das Album ist ein Meilenstein, weil es für viele Menschen der Einstieg in eine neue Musikrichtung war, mit der sie vorher wenig zu tun hatten. Gary Moore lebt die Musik und vermittelt über seine Gitarre mehr Emotionen als über seine Stimme, wie SWR1 Musikredakteur Nils Berkfeld findet. Von Hard Rock zum Blues – Gary Moores Neuanfang mit "Still Got The Blues (For You)" Mit "Still Got The Blues (For You)" schlug Gary Moore eine neue musikalische Richtung ein – weg vom Hard Rock, hin zum Blues. Der ganze "Rockstar-Zirkus" mit riesigen Bühnenaufbauten und Pyrotechnik langweilte ihn, er wollte zurück zur Essenz der Musik. Zur gleichen Zeit rollte eine neue Blues-Welle aus den USA heran, angeführt von Künstlern wie Jeff Healey, Robert Cray und Bonnie Raitt. Inspiriert von seinen Jugendhelden Eric Clapton, Peter Green und den Bluesbreakers, begann Moore, hinter den Kulissen alte Blues-Stücke zu spielen, und entdeckte seine Liebe zur Musik neu. Besonders Albert King war ein großes Idol für ihn – ein Einfluss, der auf "Still Got The Blues" deutlich zu hören ist. Entstehung des Albums "Still Got The Blues" Gary Moore war ein großer Fan von Eric Clapton und dessen einzigartigem Sound. Deshalb entschied er sich, eine eigene Version eines Clapton-Stücks für "Still Got The Blues (For You)" aufzunehmen. Das sollte nur der Anfang eines größeren Projekts werden. Anfangs zögerte Moore, doch während der ersten Sessions erkannte er, dass er auch eigene Blues-Songs schreiben konnte. Er stellte eine neue Band zusammen, bestehend aus Andy Pyle (Bass), Graham Walker (Schlagzeug) und Mick Weaver (Keyboards). Die Aufnahmen fanden in den Sarm West Studios in London statt, wobei die meisten Songs live und in nur ein bis zwei Takes eingespielt wurden, was für Blues-Aufnahmen dieser Zeit typisch war. Moore stand hinter einer Plexiglasscheibe, während die Band im Aufnahmeraum spielte – eine Methode, die auch von Künstlern wie den Rolling Stones verwendet wurde. "Still Got The Blues" wurde schließlich auch eine Hommage an seine Idole. Das Album enthält sowohl Coverversionen als auch Eigenkompositionen – darunter "King Of The Blues", ein Tribut an B.B. King. Zudem wirkte George Harrison an "That Kind Of Woman" mit. Die CD-Version des Albums widmete er seinem großen Vorbild Peter Green, obwohl nur ein Song von ihm enthalten ist. El espacio de hoy está dedicado a un disco sin desperdicio. Todas y cada una de las notas que sonarán hoy son de una calidad incontestable. Un derroche de blues rock a cargo de un músico genial, de un guitarrista único: el Sr. Gary Moore. El álbum, noveno de su carrera, Still Got the Blues se publicó en 1990 por el sello Virgin Records. Con este trabajo inicia una nueva etapa en su carrera, ya que retorna al blues rock y deja atrás su paso por el hard rock y el heavy metal, lo que generó muy buenos resultados a nivel comercial y personal. Vamos a escuchar el primer corte. Se trata de Moving on, una grabación con la clásica formación de guitarra, piano, bajo y batería. Para su grabación fueron convocados varios músicos como Bob Daisley y Don Airey quienes ya habían participado en algunos discos anteriores, pero a su vez Gary invitó a grandes leyendas del blues y del rock como Albert King y Albert Collins y al ex The Beatles, George Harrison. En este nuevo corte, Oh pretty Woman, colabora a la guitarra el mítico Albert King. Albert King, está considerado como uno de los Tres Reyes del Blues a la guitarra (junto a B.B.King y Freddie King). Le llamaban The Velvet Bulldozer, la apisonadorea de terciopelo, y es que el tipo medía 1,90 y pesaba 120 kilos. Precisamente, una de las últimas grabaciones de Albert King sería en 1990 con Gary Moore en este álbum Still Got the Blues, con una nueva versión de Oh, Pretty Woman. Esta participación llevó a que King apareciera como invitado en los conciertos de la gira europea de Moore, junto a su otro invitado famoso, Albert Collins. Por cierto, podréis apreciar una excelente sección de metales a cargo Raoul D’olivera a la trompeta, Franck Meat, saxo alto, Nick Pentelow, tenor y Nick Payn, barítono. Dentro del listado de canciones del álbum, Gary incluyó algunas versiones de grandes temas del blues rock estadounidense, como este «Walking By Myself» de Jimmy Rogers, un guitarrista y cantante de blues estadounidense que se dio a conocer por su participación en los trabajos de Muddy Waters durante las décadas de 1950 y 1960. Siempre se le recuerda como uno de los mentores y precursores del blues de Chicago. «Still Got the Blues fue el segundo sencillo del álbum y la canción que hizo que éste tuviera un éxito total en los principales mercados europeos. Número uno en toda Europa y disco de platino en el Reino Unido y de oro en los Estados Unidos. La canción fue escrita por Gary Moore pero no estuvo exenta de problemas porque el 3 de diciembre de 2008 la Corte de Alemania determinó que el solo principal del tema era un plagio de una canción instrumental de 1974 llamada «Nordrach» de la banda de rock progresivo, Jud's Gallery. Gary se defendió diciendo que no había grabaciones en formato CD o vinilo del tema durante la grabación de su disco, sin embargo la Corte declaró que fácilmente la pudo oír en una radio o en una de sus tantas visitas a Alemania en el marco de sus giras en vivo. A pesar que los jueces no pudieron determinar con pruebas palpables si Gary robó el solo de guitarra, finalmente declararon que era una violación a los derechos de autor. Como condena tuvo que pagar una cantidad no revelada de dinero al líder de Jud's Gallery, Jürgen Winter, por daños y perjuicios. Collins había ido a Milto´s Pizza & Pasta, ubicada en una avenida contigua, y había hecho el pedido mientras continuaba tocando. El último famoso invitado a la grabación fue George Harrison. Cantó y toco la guitarra en That Kind Of Woman, una canción compuesta por el propio Harrison en la que describe como es el tipo de mujer que le gusta: “Ella es ese tipo de mujer, me gusta así”. Harrison solo realizó dos giras en su carrera como artista en solitario después de la gira final de The Beatles en 1966. "All Your Love” es un estándar de blues escrito y grabado por el guitarrista de blues de Chicago Otis Rush en 1958. De todas sus composiciones, es la más conocida y ha sido versionada hasta la saciedad. Nos despedimos de este trabajo con la versión de Gary Moore. Estaremos de acuerdo en que el disco no tiene fisuras y que el artista consiguió con él el mejor trabajo de su carrera. Desgraciadamente, el músico falleció en Estepona, aquí, en España, el 6 de febrero de 2011 a la edad de 58 a causa de un ataque al corazón provocado por la alta concentración de alcohol en sangre. El espacio de hoy está dedicado a un disco sin desperdicio. Todas y cada una de las notas que sonarán hoy son de una calidad incontestable. Un derroche de blues rock a cargo de un músico genial, de un guitarrista único: el Sr. Gary Moore. El álbum, noveno de su carrera, Still Got the Blues se publicó en 1990 por el sello Virgin Records. Con este trabajo inicia una nueva etapa en su carrera, ya que retorna al blues rock y deja atrás su paso por el hard rock y el heavy metal, lo que generó muy buenos resultados a nivel comercial y personal. Vamos a escuchar el primer corte. Se trata de Moving on, una grabación con la clásica formación de guitarra, piano, bajo y batería. Para su grabación fueron convocados varios músicos como Bob Daisley y Don Airey quienes ya habían participado en algunos discos anteriores, pero a su vez Gary invitó a grandes leyendas del blues y del rock como Albert King y Albert Collins y al ex The Beatles, George Harrison. En este nuevo corte, Oh pretty Woman, colabora a la guitarra el mítico Albert King. Albert King, está considerado como uno de los Tres Reyes del Blues a la guitarra (junto a B.B.King y Freddie King). Le llamaban The Velvet Bulldozer, la apisonadorea de terciopelo, y es que el tipo medía 1,90 y pesaba 120 kilos. Precisamente, una de las últimas grabaciones de Albert King sería en 1990 con Gary Moore en este álbum Still Got the Blues, con una nueva versión de Oh, Pretty Woman. Esta participación llevó a que King apareciera como invitado en los conciertos de la gira europea de Moore, junto a su otro invitado famoso, Albert Collins. Por cierto, podréis apreciar una excelente sección de metales a cargo Raoul D’olivera a la trompeta, Franck Meat, saxo alto, Nick Pentelow, tenor y Nick Payn, barítono. Dentro del listado de canciones del álbum, Gary incluyó algunas versiones de grandes temas del blues rock estadounidense, como este «Walking By Myself» de Jimmy Rogers, un guitarrista y cantante de blues estadounidense que se dio a conocer por su participación en los trabajos de Muddy Waters durante las décadas de 1950 y 1960. Siempre se le recuerda como uno de los mentores y precursores del blues de Chicago. «Still Got the Blues fue el segundo sencillo del álbum y la canción que hizo que éste tuviera un éxito total en los principales mercados europeos. Número uno en toda Europa y disco de platino en el Reino Unido y de oro en los Estados Unidos. La canción fue escrita por Gary Moore pero no estuvo exenta de problemas porque el 3 de diciembre de 2008 la Corte de Alemania determinó que el solo principal del tema era un plagio de una canción instrumental de 1974 llamada «Nordrach» de la banda de rock progresivo, Jud's Gallery. Gary se defendió diciendo que no había grabaciones en formato CD o vinilo del tema durante la grabación de su disco, sin embargo la Corte declaró que fácilmente la pudo oír en una radio o en una de sus tantas visitas a Alemania en el marco de sus giras en vivo. A pesar que los jueces no pudieron determinar con pruebas palpables si Gary robó el solo de guitarra, finalmente declararon que era una violación a los derechos de autor. Como condena tuvo que pagar una cantidad no revelada de dinero al líder de Jud's Gallery, Jürgen Winter, por daños y perjuicios. In the second episode of Ghost Echoes, we stroll spontaneously into the movie theatre of the mind and examine a few of them. Here's looking at you, kid. Music and Sound Notes: - All of the Roxy Music tracks heard here for illustrative purposes are from their debut album. They include: “Re-Make/Re-Model”, “Virginia Plain”, “Bitters End”, “Chance Meeting", and “2HB”. - The recording of Rachmaninov's second piano concerto near the start is by an anonymous soloist and symphony orchestra, from Musopen. The excerpt from Brief Encounter itself features a recording of the same concerto by Eileen Joyce with the National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Muir Matheson.
