Everything seems right - God has planted a vineyard and tended it, but then bad, stinky fruit emerges. What has happened? How can we make things right? Chad gives another encouraging lesson and meditation on this passage, helping us to trust fully in the work of God. Even if we are plowed up and torn apart for a season, perhaps He is accomplishing the good that He wants for us, the good we cannot do for ourselves. Bryan Duncan and guitarist Kid Ramos team up on this song that speaks of God cultivating beauty from the wasteland.  Show Notes: Support 1517 Podcast Network 1517 Podcasts 1517 on Youtube 1517 Podcast Network on Apple Podcasts 1517 Events Schedule 1517 Academy - Free Theological Education What's New from 1517: The Impossible Prize: A Theology of Addiction by Donavan Riley Ditching the Checklist by Mark Mattes Broken Bonds: A Novel of the Reformation, Book 1 of 2 by Amy Mantravadi More from the hosts: Chad Bird Lyrics for Beauty from the Wasteland My life is a wasteland Trampled and broken down Briars and thorns are everywhere In this dry and thirsty ground I give to You my land Plant your vines in my soil Spirit do Your work in me Lord Jesus, make me whole   Chorus You bring life from death And beauty for ashes Forgiveness for my sins All that I bring to You is dust and sand But You   cultivate the beauty Beauty from the wasteland   Don't let me be satisfied With wild grapes in this  land  Don't let me choke from the weeds  Won't You prune me by your hand Pour down the rain of your Spirit Stream  the sunlight of Your Word Cause me to root and blossom  Let my soul be undisturbed    Chorus You bring life from death And beauty for ashes Forgiveness for my sins All that I bring to You is dust and sand But You cultivate the beauty Beauty from the wasteland   I will sing for the one I love For the one I love is You

It's another amazing interview on this week's edition of Time Signatures with Jim Ervin. Erv welcomes Kid Ramos to the show, and they had a lot to talk about. Kid is promoting a new album, but of course, they had to discuss other things along the way, too. From his early years working with James Harmon, his trips to the Golden Bear in Orange County to see Buddy Guy and many others, his deep obsession with the Blues-despite the fact he was a kid from Anaheim, and his decades-long stint as a Blues musician. The new album, by the way, is called “Strange Things Happening”. It's a collection of Gospel influenced Blues with songs made famous by Sis. Rosetta Tharpe, the Soul Stirrers, and Mahalia Jackson, and was released March 21st on Nola Blue Records. No Border Blues Episode 5: For the last 25 years, Sweden's Trickbag has been playing their brand of houserockin' rhythm and blues. Trickbag has become a top European blues festival attraction by virtue of their consistently rockin' live shows, great songs (spanning eight CDs), clever band branding and of course, LOTS of hard work and persistence. Trickbag has also been in high demand as a back-up band for touring American and European blues artists including John Primer, Jr. Watson, Barrelhouse Chuck, John Nemeth, Kid Ramos, George Sueref, Lynwood Slim and many others. How does a musician, who happens to be pretty handy on the guitar, but lives in the most isolated capital city in the world, get some of the finest Blues guitarists on the international music scene to take part in his latest project? Simple. He asks them. Australian blues-rock barnstormer, Matty T Wall has been on a rapidly rising career trajectory since his 2016 debut release Blue Skies was nominated as Best Blues Album (International) at the 15th Annual Independent Music Awards. Wall’s 2018 follow-up Sidewinder proved the success was no one-off - the album subsequently reaching the upper echelons of blues airplay charts in Australia, the US and Europe, and opening plenty of doors all around for this firebrand singer-songwriter and fearsomely talented guitarist. While Wall’s latest release may be a tad unexpected, it’s sure to be very welcome for blues lovers. With a roll call of guests including Eric Gales, Walter Trout, Kirk Fletcher, Kid Ramos and fellow West Australian Dave Hole featured, the aptly titled Transpacific Blues Vol. 1 will be a must-have for lovers of classic blues numbers and amazing guitar skills. With his abiding love of blues traditions combined with a thirst for new and different approaches to the genre, not to mention an adventurous and enthusiastic approach to his craft, Wall reached across the oceans to invite some of the greatest blues players to trade licks for him – resulting in an album of classic blues songs with plenty of creative twists. “I’ve wanted to do a collaborative release for quite a while, but my initial idea was to do something with Australian artists,” Wall says of the project’s origins. “However, I’d always been inspired by what Gary Moore did with Still Got The Blues, he had Albert King, Albert Collins and even George Harrison playing on it. The seeds of inspiration sown – Wall’s initial idea became more ambitious. As he explains “I just thought, wouldn’t it be amazing to see if I can interest some of my absolute idols - some of the very best guitarists in the world - to participate in this project – they can only say no right? So, I just thought – well, why not ask them? ” Why not indeed. While Wall was focussed on the album being an internationally angled release, the first cab off the rank enabled Wall to think act local and think global. “Dave Hole is a huge blues name at home as well as in the US and Europe,” he states. “He ticked all the boxes right from the start, plus he’s just a wonderful guy – so generous and wise -.he was actually the inspiration for me taking my version of blues & music to the rest of the world! I wouldn’t have thought that possible to do were it not for Dave’s breakthrough success.” “From there I wanted to see if I could get some gun guitar players from the US. So Kid Ramos was the next guy. He’s an incredible guitarist who is very much like Brian Setzer (Stray Cats), he’s got that sort of vibe going on, and he’s a former Fabulous Thunderbirds guitar-slinger. I was then talking to a friend in the States about Eric Gales, who is absolutely my favourite guitar player at the moment and probably will be one of them forever. He’s like Stevie Ray Vaughan or Jimi Hendrix, the solos just flow out of him. Virtuosic, incredible solos. He listened to some of my stuff and he really liked it and wanted to go ahead, so it was really great to get that approval.” Next up on Wall’s blues hitlist was one Walter Trout. The great blues master and former Bluesbreaker is very much in demand, headlining major festivals and dominating international blues charts. But, Wall’s call was answered, and then some... Rather than focusing on new releases this week, I've focused on making this another "chair-dancing" edition. Kid Ramos, Kai Strauss, Sean Costello, Andy Santana, and Janiva Magness give you reason to move around. You might do that in your chair, you might grab someone close, you might get up and dance by yourself, but I think the hour is irresistably movable. It'll make you want to dance, all while delivering another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.

LITTLE BOYS BLUE – COUCH KID NEW MUSIC The band has a new album out entitled, Hard Blue Space and it features Kid Memphis! JD and I spoke about his partnering with Kid and what their plans are for the future.   ALLMAN GOLDFLIES BAND David Goldflies was in The Allman Brothers Band from 1978 – 1982. Gary Allman is cousin to Gregg and Duane and is a solid songwriter as evidenced by the songs on their debut, Second Chance.  Had a great time chatting with the guys and finding out about their journeys and future plans.   KID RAMOS Rescheduled from a few weeks back, I finally got to sit with Kid and talk to this incredible musician about his remarkable journey, both the hills and the valleys while we checked out the tunes from the new album, Old School.   J.T. LAURITSEN & THE BUCKSHOT HUNTERS – COUCH KID NEW MUSIC J.T. called in from Norway to talk about the new album, Blue Eyed Soul Volume One and all he has been up to since his last visit back in 2013.  Always a pleasure talking to J.T.

The 400th Roadhouse jumps with an hour of jump and boogie blues. Louis Prima, Kid Ramos, Louis Jordan, Lavay Smith & Her Red-Hot Skillet Lickers, and Bullmoose Jackson take center stage on our little bandstand in the corner. The hour is pretty evenly divided between the jump and boogie pioneers and the relative new kids. But it is an incredibly full and upbeat hour - more music than I've featured in any other show - and an hour of the finest blues you've never heard.

We'll be hearing tracks off of all of the CDs! But I also have a special treat for you and have my buddy (the CEO) with me on the show! As a matter of fact, we've had so much fun and played so much music, I've had to split the show in two! So you'll be listening to Part 1 on today's show!   After talking to Randy a little bit about the band, we'll hear two more tunes off of the very well-received first offering, with “I'm A Lover Not A Fighter” and “I Feel So Bad.”   The second CD is called and was recorded live at the Winthrop Music Festival. You'll hear Kid Ramos start things off with a great tune called “Kid's Jump.” After hearing more details about the festival from Randy, you'll be treated to “You're Sweet” and “Mystery Train.”   In 2007, the third CD from was titled and there's no doubt they have them! We'll hear “Border Town Blues” to start off playing this very strong CD, then we'll hear Tom Leavey's tune “Mary Jane” and Randy's “Mine All Mine.” Great stuff! Well, before I run out of time, I wanted to end our Part One show with a sneak preview of a tune on newest CD, …. Here's that Muddy Water's tune, “Champagne & Reefer.”   That wraps up Show #95, “Mannish Boys Blues, Celebrating 5 Years!” show, Part One! Make sure to check back in and hear Part Two!
