Dr. Biehl shares how coaching and a Pause & Presence Sagrada retreat gave her the courage to cut back to part-time and let go of a part of her job that used to be her passion but was now no longer in alignment.  She shares how hard it was to give herself permission to not work full-time as an immigrant. She shares how she grew the courage to ask her chair and change her life at a recent Pause & Presence Retreat.  Inspired, motivated, rested, and nourished, she returned home, took immediate action, and changed her life.   What did Dr. Beihl learn on her retreat?  How to practice nonjudgmental awareness, tune into her body, and notice alignment and misalignment.   How to trust herself How to slow down and meditate She had previously been making decisions based on what she thought she was “supposed to do” and that she could and wanted to make decisions from her heart It is ok to focus on what she loves. On this episode of The Eastern Front, Giselle, Dalibor, and Iulia speak with Heiko Biehl, head of the research department at the Center for Military History and Social Sciences at the Bundeswehr in Potsdam, to discuss the shift in Germany's strategic culture over the last year and a half. To what extent has Germany's relationship with the US and NATO—at the expense of its relationship with France—become more relevant since the war? Is German strategic culture at risk of changing again with the potential return of Donald Trump to the White House? What are German attitudes towards the use of hard power? How important is it to inspire your customers with your business? In today's podcast, I dig into that question with flower farmer Lyndsay Biehl of Wildroot Flower Company. Over the last 6 years, she has slowly built an organic following of super-fans. And after our conversation, I have my suspicions that it's  not just because her flowers are beautiful.... Listen to Lyndsay's messaging, and you'll hear phrases like: "I believe in you... you deserve it... slow down... admire the beauty around you... be present... connect with those you love." Lyndsay inspires people to believe transformation is possible. She is the "attractive character" everyone yearns to become. She speaks a word of hope into their existence. In today's episode, you'll not only hear tactical strategies Lyndsay is using to manage "all the marketing things" in her business. Imagine you have a favorite race—one you continually dream about winning one day—and on every hard training run and day that you're dragging, you visualize being out there and making it happen. Sarah Biehl kept grinding and manifested her dream—not only breaking the tape at the 60th JFK50, but also shattering Ultra legend Ellie Greenwood's course record by over 6 minutes, running a BLAZING fast 6:05:42! We discuss: going from the huntress to the hunted; learning from past JFK experiences; staying upright on the AT; working with some men in sections and enjoying the company; the mental battles on the towpath; trusting her race plan from her coach, Michael Owen, but also going with her gut; where the fire comes from; mantras—fall down get back up, play your own game; how more prep work on the AT with training partner Rachel Lemcke helped; why pushing her limits in Ultra gets the juices flowing more than chasing a faster marathon (2:39:01 current PR); and running in her 2nd Olympic Marathon Trials. Sarah has HUGE gratitude for the JFK50 community, the volunteers, and for the running community overall. She is so easy to root for and I'm excited to see her chase down some big Ultra goals in 2023! “White folks need to realize that something's been done to us - that we're raced. Like, we're not actually white… We were Polish, we were German, we were Irish. We've lost that ethnicity we've lost that culture, and our legacy is taking it from other folks, right? I still have work to do on exploring my own family… We actually have more ability to research our people and find them, and yet we still don't do the work. Why is that? ‘Cause we're afraid of what we're gonna find.” - Jason Biehl Ever Forward Club's Ashanti Branch is joined by Jason Biehl. Janet Biehl is one of the leading libertarian socialist writers in the country. For several decades, she was the partner and collaborator of the late political theorist Murray Bookchin, who stood, in the words of the Village Voice, "at the pinnacle of the genre of utopian social criticism." In bracing works like "Listen, Marxist!" and The Ecology of Freedom, Bookchin laid out the basis for an anti-capitalist, ecologically-oriented, and anti-authoritarian left. Bookchin's analysis was often provocative, and in works like "Social Anarchism or Lifestyle Anarchism" and "Re-Enchanting Humanity" (which includes a satisfying takedown of Richard Dawkins) he challenged what he felt were the dangerous currents of anti-rationalist and primitivist thinking emerging on the left. Bookchin tried to forge a philosophy that was pro-technology while sensitive to ecological destruction, and which salvaged insights from Marx while avoiding the rigidities of 21st century Marxism. He was one of the first thinkers to warn that capitalism itself was causing catastrophic global warming.Biehl is the author of Ecology or Catastrophe The Life of Murray Bookchin, the editor of The Murray Bookchin Reader, and the author of The Politics of Social Ecology, a primer on Bookchin's ideas. In addition to her work on Bookchin, Janet Biehl is an artist and journalist who has documented the social revolution that has taken place among the Kurds of Rojava. Her latest book is the graphic novel Their Blood Got Mixed: Revolutionary Rojava and the War on ISIS.In Part I of this interview, we discuss the social theories of Murray Bookchin. In the second part, we move to Biehl's recent work on the Kurdish struggle, more information about which can be found at the Rojava Information Center. There is a connection between Biehl's work on both topics, because the "democratic confederalist" philosophy developed by Kurdistan Workers' Party leader Abdullah Öcalan was directly inspired in part by the writings of Bookchin. Bookchin did not in his lifetime get to see a movement that took his ideas seriously, and one of the more poignant parts of Biehl's work is her reflections on how delighted and gratified Bookchin would have been to see his theories expanded upon, developed further, and put into practice by courageous revolutionaries.

A good API is like a LEGO block — or so says Matthias Biehl, author and advisor to API-University. The bumpy side is the easy-to-understand front-end; the underside connects multiple bricks together to create endless possibilities.Simplifying the often complicated realm of APIs is part of Matthias's mission. When designing your API, the simpler the better, he says.Ironically, it's when a company starts accessing more resources that this “Keep it simple” mantra often falls by the wayside. Adding more people into the mix dilutes the consistency you get when only one person is in charge of designing and building. On this episode of API Intersection, Matthias explains why intuitive APIs should be the goal, why simplicity is a gift to your end user, and the difference between hunters and fishers in the context of APIs.Do you have a question you'd like answered, or a topic you want to see in a future episode? Scientists have helped us understand that an adolescent is categorically less culpable than an adult and have greater potential for rehabilitation. Illinois recently announced the 21st Century Transformation Model which will “transition youth to small, regional residential centers, invest significantly in community wraparound support and intervention services, and increase financial support for victim services in communities that are disproportionately impacted by violence.” Join me and Julie Biehl, Director of the Children and Family Justice Center at Northwestern University's Pritzker School of Law, as we discuss the challenges justice-involved youth face and the need for community investment. On August 25, 1993, Linda and Molly Biehl faced one of their greatest challenges; the death of their daughter and sister, Amy Biehl, who was brutally murdered in South Africa while serving as an anti-apartheid activist during a very volatile time. The four youths subsequently convicted of her murder were later granted amnesty by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission after serving five years of their sentence – a decision that was supported by Amy's parents. Two of the convicted men now work for the Amy Biehl Foundation Trust in Cape Town, a charity which dedicates its work to putting up barriers against violence. The 25th anniversary of Amy Biehl's death is next August 2018. Both Linda and Molly Biehl are featInured in the new book entitled, “200 WOMEN.”  Visit https://www.atriumphantme.com Get the Inclusion Revolution CD by Sister Jenna. Like America Meditating.
