It was an overcast Monday afternoon in late April, and Michael Oher, the former football player whose high school years were dramatized in the movie “The Blind Side,” was driving Michael Sokolove on a tour through a forlorn-looking stretch of Memphis and past some of the landmarks of his childhood. In the movie, Oher moves into the home of the wealthy white couple Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy. They take him shopping for clothes, help him obtain a driver's license, buy him a pickup truck and arrange for tutoring that helps improve his grades and makes him eligible to play college football. In real life, Oher went on to play eight seasons as a starting offensive tackle in the N.F.L. and won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens. Now, Oher is suing the Tuohys, claiming that they have exploited him by using his name, image and likeness to promote speaking engagements that have earned them roughly $8 million over the last two decades — and by repeatedly saying that they adopted him when they never did. “The Blind Side” only told part of Michael Oher's story. Now, he tells us the rest. You might know Michael Oher as the subject of “The Blind Side,” the 2009 movie starring Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw. The film was based on the true story of Oher, a young Black football player, who gained a second chance at life after being adopted by white parents. But Oher's version of the story is a lot different, and it starts long before the Tuohys entered the picture. In this interview conducted with our partner Unlikely Collaborators, Oher paints a picture of the crack epidemic in the ‘80s and ‘90s, a broken and tumultuous family, and a young boy determined to climb out of it. About Michael Oher: Michael Oher gained widespread recognition through Michael Lewis's book "The Blind Side" and its film adaptation, which depicted his difficulties in early life and time playing college football. After attending the University of Mississippi, he played in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens, Tennessee Titans, and Carolina Panthers, winning the SuperBowl with the Ravens in 2013. Michael has also written two books: I Beat The Odds and When You're Back's Against The Wall, which detail his struggles and successes in life, imparting wisdom on how to overcome adversity. Michael has also contributed to the book Blindsided, where he outlines his experience of early-stage CTE, how he walked away from the NFL, and his urgent recommendations to reform football and make it a safer sport. Join us in a deeper exploration as amazing New Mexico Estate Planning lawyer Stephanie Woods and I delve into the convoluted legalities surrounding the true story of Michael Oher, whose life journey inspired the Hollywood blockbuster, 'The Blind Side.' In this episode, we critically examine the peculiar conservatorship held by the Tuohys - his guardians, and the baffling circumstances surrounding his supposed "adoption." Recent developments have emerged post our recording, shedding more light on this complex tale. The narrative takes a new turn as a Tennessee judge recently announced the termination of the conservatorship agreement between Michael Oher and the Memphis couple who had taken him in during his high school years. While this decision marks the end of the conservatorship established in 2004, it opens a Pandora's box of financial disputes which continue to linger. The heart of the matter lies in Oher's claims that the Tuohys had misrepresented the conservatorship as an adoption, leading him to believe in a familial bond that legally, never existed. Further, he alleges that this misrepresentation allowed the Tuohys to control his finances, using his name, image, and likeness for their enrichment.Listen in as we navigate through the legal intricacies of conservatorships, adult adoptions, and the significant implications surrounding solid estate planning. Michael's case underscores the potential financial repercussions when such legal arrangements are not adequately addressed or understood. Despite the termination of the conservatorship, Michael's fight for a thorough accounting and rightful compensation of the finances earned off his name and story forges on, unraveling more questions on the ethical and legal aspects of conservatorships and adult adoptions.

The movie The Blind Side depicted football player Michael Oher in a less than flattering light. And his adoptive parents, the Tuohys, helped raise him into a man. Well, as it turns out, Oher is saying this "adoption" was actually a "conservatorship." As a result, Oher has missed out on millions of dollars from the movie. It seems like there's a lot of manipulation going on, which is never a good thing.Plus, a radical look at the simpler times of the 90s, and when ads pop up on an Internet screen and your entire page reloads. And do you remember what movie won Best Picture in 2009, the same year The Blind Side came out?

Speaking of Biden… https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-admin-takes-action-restricting-oil-gas-development-settlement-eco-groups Biden admin takes action restricting oil, gas development after settlement with eco groups The Biden administration issued new restrictions on oil and gas companies operating in the Gulf of Mexico, in an effort to protect a whale species after it settled last month with a coalition of environmental groups. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), which manages energy development in federal waters, published a Notice to Lessees and Operators (NTL) on Monday evening highlighting expanded protections for the Rice’s whale, a species listed under the Endangered Species Act. BOEM was slated to issue the NTL last week, but delayed it until Monday. "This decision by the Biden Administration does an end-around legal requirements and the public process, imposing unwarranted restrictions on U.S. energy production at a time of continued inflation with prices rising at the pump for consumers," said National Ocean Industries Association President Erik Milito. He added that the agreement the administration reached with environmental groups ignores the "best science," contravenes congressional intent under the Inflation Reduction Act and threatens America's energy independence. Under the NTL issued Monday, BOEM created a vast new protection zone stretching across the Gulf of Mexico with a variety of new conditions for industry operators. Among its recommendations, BOEM said specially-trained visual observers should be aboard all vessels traversing the area, all ships regardless of size should travel no quicker than 10 knots, and vessels should only travel through the area in the daytime. Those recommendations will be introduced as stipulations to Lease Sale 261, an upcoming offshore oil and gas lease auction. And BOEM removed an estimated 11 million acres of potential oil-rich lease blocks from that lease sale under its actions Monday. In a federal stipulated stay agreement filed late last month, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) agreed to a number of conditions requested by four eco groups led by the Sierra Club which, in response, agreed to temporarily pause litigation in the related case. The case dates back nearly three years when, in October 2020, the environmental coalition sued the NMFS for failing to properly assess the oil industry impacts on endangered and threatened marine wildlife in the Gulf of Mexico. They pursued the lawsuit after the NMFS coordinated a multiagency consultation studying the effects all federally regulated oil and gas activities would have on species listed under the Endangered Species Act in the Gulf of Mexico over the next 50 years. The groups argued in the original complaint that the NMFS' biological opinion resulting from its consultation was not based on the best science. According to API, the NTL solely targets oil and gas traffic while refraining from restricting vessel traffic related to other industries. https://www.breitbart.com/entertainment/2023/08/21/covid-mask-mandates-return-to-hollywood-lionsgate-requires-employees-to-mask-up-submit-to-daily-testing/ COVID Mandates Return to Hollywood: Lionsgate Requires Employees to Mask Up, Submit to Daily Testing COVID mask mandates are returning to Hollywood, with Lionsgate being the first major studio to reinstate masking and daily testing for its Los Angeles office workers. Lionsgate is requiring employees who physically work at its headquarters in Santa Monica to wear masks at all times when in the building, effective immediately, except when alone in an enclosed office or large open workspace. In addition, employees are required to submit to daily COVID testing and to report the results to the company, according to an internal memo obtained by Deadline. Employees must wear “a medical grade face covering (surgical mask, KN95 or N95) when indoors except when alone in an office with the door closed, actively eating, actively drinking at their desk or workstation, or if they are the only individual present in a large open workspace,” the memo reportedly states. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has reported a recent uptick in transmissions but “overall metrics remain at a low level of concern.” A growing number of colleges and medical institutions throughout the country are also reinstating mask mandates, with the mainstream news media running articles pushing for the return of face coverings. Former Obama official and MSNBC medical contributor Dr. Kavita Patel said earlier this month on MSNBC’s “José Díaz-Balart Reports” that a rise in COVID cases meant it was time to bring back masks. The return of mask mandates comes as the Biden administration is ramping up another round of COVID hysteria ahead of 2024, pressuring all Americans to get the latest booster this fall. This had led to growing suspicion that Democrats will not only impose mask mandates but bring back mass lockdowns ahead of the next presidential election, in a repeat of 2020. As Breitbart News reported, the new push for Americans to line up for booster shots follows the revelation in January that health officials want to make coronavirus booster vaccinations an annual event. Now it’s time for my favorite topic, sports! https://www.boundingintosports.com/2023/08/the-blind-side-author-michael-lewis-calls-out-michael-oher-amid-lawsuit-against-tuohy-family-that-hes-suspicious-of-them-is-breathtaking/ ‘The Blind Side’ Author Michael Lewis Calls Out Michael Oher Amid Lawsuit Against Tuohy Family: “That He’s Suspicious Of Them Is Breathtaking” The celebrated story of Michael Oher, former NFL athlete and the subject of the best-selling book “The Blind Side” by Michael Lewis, has taken an insane turn over the past week. Oher has filed a lawsuit against the Tuohy family, claiming they never officially adopted him and accusing them of financial misdeeds related to movie profits. Now, author Lewis has defended the Tuohys and pointed fingers at Hollywood’s accounting system as the real culprit. In 2006, Lewis’s book spotlighted Oher’s heartwarming journey from a troubled youth to an accomplished football player, largely credited to the benevolence and support of Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy. The narrative was later adapted into an award-winning movie in 2009, starring Sandra Bullock. However, the harmony of the feel-good story depicted on the big screen seems drastically different from the current situation we’re seeing unfold now. Oher’s lawsuit alleges that the Tuohys tricked him into signing over the legal authority to use his name in business deals after his 18th birthday, thereby cheating him out of future proceeds. He asserts they profited off the Oscar-winning movie while sidelining him financially. Responding to these allegations, the Tuohy family labeled Oher’s claims a “shameful shakedown” and voiced intentions to end the conservatorship, a legal concept where an individual is appointed to manage another’s financial and/or personal affairs. Adding fuel to the fire, the Tuohy family’s attorney, Martin Singer, claims that before initiating the lawsuit, Oher tried to extort the family for $15 million. Singer alleged Oher threatened the Tuohys with negative press unless the hefty amount was handed over. But Michael Lewis, in interviews with both The Washington Post and at a previously recorded Google event, blames Tinsel Town for the mess. Lewis slammed Hollywood studios (the film was produced and distributed by Warner Bros.) for their accounting practices which, according to him, often shortchange those whose real-life stories inspire box office hits. I “Everybody should be mad at the Hollywood studio system,” Lewis said. “Michael Oher should join the writers strike. It’s outrageous how Hollywood accounting works, but the money is not in the Tuohys’ pockets.” Lewis further divulged that both he and the Tuohy family made about $350,000 each from the movie after considering taxes and agent fees. Challenging Oher’s narrative, Lewis asserted that the Tuohys intended to share movie royalties among family members, including Oher. However, Oher reportedly began declining these royalty checks. In a move showcasing the Tuohy’s good faith, Lewis revealed they deposited Oher’s share in a trust fund designed for Oher’s son.

This week on the show, we talk law and order after being blindsided by the Oher vs. Tuohys case. A sad ending to a beloved Disney fairytale, damn you Hollywood for bringing sports fans false hope. Typical Hugh Freeze is all we can say. We touch base on baseball, as the Yankees are sinking fast, with little hope of making the playoffs or even finishing above .500. While Dak throws picks and Kyrie remains a Dallas Maverick, Trainor looks for hope in an unlikely place, the Texas Rangers. Massey isn't concerned about Bama being buried in the AP Poll at #4 and won't shut up about the Jets. Dalvin and Zeke finally have homes where they can running back. Finally we pick our NFL division winners and wild card teams. We are both all in on Derek Carr for MVP…of the NFC South. Why were Tebow's hands so soft? Are the Lions too hot right now?? Does George W really want to see SMU play UVA??? And can Peyton reach these kids???? Download and subscribe to the podcast. Listen to the whole damn thing. Welcome to J School, please have a seat while Professor Whitlock presents his dissertation on why the media is the biggest threat to America. Case study: the Michael Oher conservatorship lawsuit. Since news broke of Oher's legal action against the Tuohy family, the corporate media has recycled Oher's allegations without any real research or fact-checking. It fits the mainstream media's approved narrative to paint a white, Christian family as the oppressors of a young, naive, impoverished black youth. When in reality, it takes very little investigative skills to expose parts of Oher's claim, such as the idea that the Tuohys were plotting to extort and withhold millions of dollars from Oher, as blatant fabrications. Jason lays out the facts about “The Blind Side” book and movie and the real reason the Tuohy family executed a conservatorship over Oher. We want to hear from the Fearless Army!! Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), one of Capitol Hill's leading voices on student loan forgiveness, owes the Department of Education up to $50,000 in student loans, according to the New Yorker's recent financial disclosure. The filing, which was reviewed by the Washington Examiner, documented that the congresswoman owed the department between $15,000 and $50,000 for her student loans as of 2022. That same year, Ocasio-Cortez led the call for the Biden administration to cancel thousands of dollars in loans for each student. "Now would be a great time to cancel student loan debt, take significant climate action, and pass voting rights," Ocasio-Cortez posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, in May 2022 in response to a Marist poll that showed President Joe Biden had a low approval rating among young adults. Ocasio-Cortez's student loan debt was already known, as the congresswoman's 2021 financial disclosure showed her holding up to $50,000 in liability. Biden revealed his student loan forgiveness plan in August 2022 to forgive up to $20,000 worth of student loan debt for borrowers who make under $125,000 a year individually or $250,000 for married couples. Members of Congress earn an annual salary of $174,000. Although Ocasio-Cortez celebrated the plan, she called for more forgiveness for people who owed even more debt. "It was YOUR pushing, YOUR pressure, YOUR organizing that got them to this point," Ocasio-Cortez posted on Instagram. "I am very grateful for this watershed moment of a first step — it is so encouraging, thrilling, and has already changed SO many people's lives. But I am also thinking about how this still leaves a question mark for those in the highest amounts of debt, who need the most amount of help. So let's celebrate and keep going." Fellow "Squad" member Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) is among those who owe money, with Tlaib owing more than $100,000 to the Department of Education for her law degree. Tlaib pushed for the Biden administration to forgive at least $50,000 in student loan debt for individual borrowers last year. More Trump news now… https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/08/15/morning-consult-poll-trump-boasts-41-point-lead-one-week-ahead-republican-debate/ Trump Boasts 41-Point Lead One Week Ahead of Republican Debate Former President Donald Trump is boasting a 41-point lead in the Republican primary roughly one week ahead of the first GOP debate, which will take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on August 23. The survey found Trump maintaining majority support, with 57 percent of potential Republican primary viewers choosing him as their candidate, despite ongoing legal troubles which have not had a negative effect on him. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has attempted to revamp his campaign over the last few months — from laying off dozens of staffers to replacing his campaign manager — remains in a distant second place, 41 points behind Trump with 16 percent support. Anti-woke businessman Vivek Ramaswamy comes in third place, just seven percent behind DeSantis with nine percent support. Former Vice President Mike Pence came in fourth place with seven percent support, followed by South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who all saw three percent support. All others listed saw one percent support or less. That portion of the survey was taken August 11-13, among 3,064 potential Republican primary voters and has a +/- 2 percent margin of error. Again, the survey shows choices for a second-choice candidate diversifying, as 36 percent of Trump supporters choose DeSantis as their second choice, followed by nearly one-quarter, 23 percent, who chose Ramaswamy. Another 11 percent said Pence, followed by five percent who said Haley and Scott, and 14 percent unsure. Similarly, 37 percent of DeSantis supporters chose Trump as their second-choice candidate, followed by 21 percent who said Ramaswamy, 14 percent who said Pence, 12 percent who said Haley, eight percent who chose Scott, and three percent who remain unsure. The survey coincides with the latest Kaplan Strategies poll, which shows Trump leading with 48 percent support, Ramaswamy moving to second place with 11 percent support, and DeSantis falling to third with ten percent. https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/08/15/biden-promises-700-per-household-in-maui-less-than-what-is-spent-on-ukraine/ Biden Promises Maui Fire Survivors $700 Per Household — Less Than What Is Spent on Ukraine President Joe Biden announced Monday that survivors of the Maui fires would receive “a one-time $700 payment per household,” after he faced criticism for telling a reporter he had “no comment” on the rising death toll. His account posted: “We’re laser-focused on getting aid to survivors, including Critical Needs Assistance: a one-time $700 payment per household offering relief during an unimaginably difficult time.” The one-time payment of $700 per household is less than the estimated cost to each American household for the Ukraine War, according to a budget expert at the Heritage Foundation. Richard Stern, director of The Heritage Foundation’s Grover M. Hermann Center for the Federal Budget, calculated that the congressionally-approved aid to Ukraine of $113 billion amounts to roughly $900 per American household. “The formal aid packages alone amount to a staggering $113 billion — roughly $900 per American household and almost 12 times the spending cuts promised by House leadership in the annual spending bills,” Stern said in an email to The Daily Signal, Heritage’s news outlet. Furthermore, he said the $113 billion would cost more than $300 in interest costs per household over the decade. On Thursday, as the Maui fires continued burning, Biden asked Congress for an additional $20 billion more in aid for Ukraine. https://www.dailyfetched.com/us-homeless-population-balloons-as-biden-seeks-millions-to-house-illegal-migrants/ US Homeless Population Balloons as Biden Seeks Millions to House Illegal Migrants The homeless population in the US is rapidly increasing at a record pace as Joe Biden seeks hundreds of millions of American taxpayer money to house illegal migrants across the country. According to new data published by the Wall Street Journal, over 577,000 Americans are homeless today, representing an 11 percent increase compared to 2022. The increase “would represent by far the biggest recorded increase since the government started tracking comparable numbers in 2007,” the Journal notes/ “The next highest increase was a 2.7% jump in 2019, excluding an artificially high increase last year caused by pandemic counting interruptions,” the outlet adds. Out of the nearly 600,000 homeless Americans, 150,000 are considered chronically homeless because they have lived on the streets for over a year, with many suffering from mental illness. Despite the homeless problem, Biden is asking Congress to approve hundreds of millions in American taxpayer dollars for a housing development project for illegal migrants. As The Daily Fetched reported last week, Biden is asking for more funds as part of a $40 billion emergency funding request to Congress. The request includes a whopping $2.7 billion for the Department of Homeland Security’s various border efforts. There are 57,300 migrants in the city, with an estimated 100,000 that will need services by June 2025. Adams admitted that the massive increase in migrants could cost the city as much as $12 billion over the next three years. As Breitbart noted: “Much of the taxpayer money would end up in the hands of left-wing non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that have profited immensely from illegal immigration in recent years via federal contracts with DHS. Border crossers and illegal aliens who would get to take advantage of the housing project would likely stay for an extended period of time, as a sample size of DHS data recently found that fewer than 2-in-10 are being placed into deportation proceedings after release into the U.S. interior.” Now in entertainment news… slash sports. https://www.boundingintosports.com/2023/08/all-lies-retired-nfl-player-michael-oher-says-biographical-film-the-blind-side-mostly-made-up-was-never-adopted-by-the-tuohys/ All Lies: Retired NFL Player Michael Oher Says Biographical Film ‘The Blind Side’ Mostly Made Up, Was Never ‘Adopted’ By The Tuohys Michael Oher, the retired NFL star depicted in the 2009 film The Blind Side, filed a petition Monday in Shelby County, Tennessee probate court challenging the portrayal of his “adoption” by the now-famous Tuohy family. According to the 14-page petition, the Tuohys never formally adopted Oher. Instead, they allegedly had him sign conservatorship documents shortly after he turned 18 in 2004, giving them the authority to make business decisions on his behalf. Oher claims he was unaware of the specifics, believing all along that he had been adopted by the family. Oher accuses the family of also profiting from the popular film about his story, which grossed over $300 million, while he received nothing. Oher stated that the Tuohy’s wealth and notoriety “would not have existed without him.” Since the film came out in 2009, the Tuohys have continued to profit off of Oher using the, as Oher claims, false story to enrich themselves. The Tuohy family did not immediately respond for comment when reached out to by ESPN. Oher’s petition seeks an end to the conservatorship, prohibits the Tuohys from using his name and likeness, and demands an accounting of the profits they derived using his story. In previous statements, the Tuohys claimed they shared their movie earnings with Oher. However, the NFL star’s trust in the family eroded over time, especially due to the film’s portrayal of him. “The lie of Michael’s adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael Oher,” says Oher’s official legal filing. “Michael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make him a member of the Tuohy family, in fact provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys. “Since at least August of 2004, Conservators have allowed Michael, specifically, and the public, generally, to believe that Conservators adopted Michael and have used that untruth to gain financial advantages for themselves and the foundations which they own or which they exercise control,” the petition continues. “All monies made in said manner should in all conscience and equity be disgorged and paid over to the said ward, Michael Oher.” Legally, adoption would have made Oher a Tuohy family member with financial autonomy. However, under the conservatorship, the Tuohys had financial control. The petition claims the Tuohys negotiated the movie deal after the 2006 book “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game,” and received $225,000 each and 2.5% of the film’s net proceeds. The Blind Side grossed over $300 million and earned significant home video sales. It was nominated for Best Picture, and Sandra Bullock won Best Actress. Oher went on to a very successful NFL career, which includes a Super Bowl victory with the Ravens in the “Harbaugh Bowl” of 2013, and later played in Super Bowl 50 for the Panthers, covering quarterback Cam Newton’s blind side.

Was the story about Michael Oher and the Tuohys too good to be true? John and Jack try to make sense of Michael Oher's shocking lawsuit against the family everyone always assumed was his very own.
"The Blind Side" is a 2009 film directed by John Lee Hancock, based on the true story of Michael Oher, an impoverished African-American teenager who finds support and guidance from a wealthy white family, the Tuohys. They help him overcome his challenging background and develop his football talents, leading him to a successful career in the NFL. The movie explores themes of race, family, and determination while showcasing the transformative power of compassion and opportunity.Well we were all blind sided when Michael Oher, the main character the movie was loosely based on filed a $15 million dollar lawsuit against the Tuohy's. Oher's claim Tuohy family never officially adopted him and instead tricked him into signing paperwork that locked him into a conservatorship, which gave them legal authority to make business decisions in his name. The Tuohy family, who were the subject of the movie "The Blind Side," have disputed claims made by Michael Oher, the former NFL player who they took in as a teenager. The Tuohys denied the allegation, calling them a "shakedown effort." As the case is still ongoing, Reese, K-Mac, Pam, & Graham discussed the history of the Tuohy family and Oher's relationship.
It is one of the greatest sports movies of all time. The Blind Side. What makes it even better, is that it was a true story. But the fairytale ending is going up in flames as a lawsuit says he was tricked into signing away his decision making powers... costing him millions. The Tuohys helped Oher graduate high school, attend college, and play in the NFL where he was highly successful and made $34M dollars. At 37-years old Oher just filed a lawsuit claiming that the Tuohy's never officially adopted him, had him sign papers that made the Tuohy's his conservator, and withheld money from the success of the movie "The Blind Side" Dave and Debbie speak to KSL Legal Analyst Greg Skordas on the lawsuit.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Once upon a time in Hollywood, a film that followed the narrative arc of a person sacrificing for the good of his fellow man was celebrated. Today, mass media filters everything through a racial lens and rejects this traditional plot device as the “white savior trope." Following Michael Oher's lawsuit against the white family who took him in as a teen and inspired the film that featured his story, the media has once again framed the narrative through race. Jason says the attacks have nothing to do with skin color. “The attack on 'The Blind Side' is yet another assault on biblical values disguised as racial justice. We now live in an era in which popular culture is openly hostile to biblical values. There are rewards for rewriting history and dismantling symbols that support a biblical worldview.” Join “Fearless” as we take a deeper dive into the true motivations behind Oher's blind hate. In Tennessee Harmony, Anthony Walker and the president and CEO of Promise Keepers, Ken Harrison, join Jason to discuss the importance of Christian discipleship and combating the racial justice movement that is working to undermine Christianity. Gojo and Golic dive into the unfortunate news that not only did 2009's “The Blind Side' paint retired NFL star Michael Oher negatively but according to Oher, the story was built on a lie. (01:08) - Former Ole Miss star and first-round pick, Michael Oher revealed in court documents that unlike the narrative pushed in the movie and real life, Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy did not adopt him. Instead, they tricked the then-18-year-old Oher into signing a conservatorship that allowed the Tuohys to negotiate deals on his behalf. (03:33) Golic says there should be receipts to validate everything Michael Oher claims, especially his receiving zero dollars for the success of “The Blind Side” while ‘his family' saw a cut from the film. (05:30) - Gojo compares this situation with Michael Oher and the Tuohys to the NCAA and their entire exploitative model for success before discussing how former Ole Miss Head Football coach, Hugh Freeze stands as one of the major beneficiaries of the lies that sold to sell ‘Michael Oher's story.' (10:50) - Gojo breaks down just how damning “The Blind Side” was to Michael Oher's image and how he handled the narratives pushed throughout the film before we hear sound from Michael Oher himself on what bothered him most about how he was portrayed in the movie. (14:17) Golic sheds light on the shady moves made by the Tuohy family, proving just how exploitative they were being with Michael Oher as his co-conservators. (18:10) - ZACK MARTIN GOT PAID! Ja'Marr talks with Gojo and Golic about partnering with his former teammate Justin Jefferson for a commercial, following his NFL career from afar, and borrowing from each other's game. (26:30) Gojo asks Chase how Joe Burrow's calf has been recovering and the evolution of Burrow's game from college to the NFL. Ja'Marr Chase talks about what this team has done for Bengals fans in Cincinnati, what goals he's set out for himself this season, and his ongoing war of worlds with Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce. (33:00) Ja'Marr ends his time with Gojo and Golic talking about the woes of training camp, the Bengals' newest DBs, and a fun fact about Cincinnati Head Coach Zac Taylor. Day 185 Today's Reading: 1 Thessalonians 3 No one seems to wrap gifts anymore in boxes and wrapping paper. We use a gift bag and some colored tissue paper on top. If we forgot the occasion, whether it's a birthday or an anniversary, usually a gift card (which means I forgot to shop) lies beneath the tissue paper. Here in 1 Thessalonians 3, the apostle Paul shows us a special gift that we can easily miss because of the packaging and its wrapping. At times I have prayed for things and never realized that the answer came in wrapping I never expected. We know Paul spent some months with this Thessalonian church and preached in their city. After being gone a few months, Paul sent Timothy to check on the church there. He wrote this letter to encourage them, because they faced false teachers, whom he did not want infiltrating the young church, as well as some difficult persecution. He knew that in the midst of those difficult times, they needed strength and encouragement “so that no one would be disturbed by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we have been destined for this” (verse 3). Those words, disturbed by these afflictions, are revealing. In fact, the actual word is deceived [by these afflictions]. I have learned that hard times can deceive people. Hard times can deceive us about God, deceive us about ourselves, and deceive us about life. We begin to believe the lies that say, God doesn't love me. That's why I am going through this and These hard times are punishments for the bad things I have done. I'm the only one who goes through stuff like this. I am all alone. It's the deception of hard times. When people go through difficulty, so does their faith. So Paul sent to these young Thessalonian believers much-needed gifts: encouragement and strength. But the packaging was different. Listen to verse 2: “We sent Timothy, our brother and God's fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you as to your faith.” God packaged strength and encouragement in a person—Timothy. The movie The Blind Side chronicles a Christian family, the Tuohys, who took in a homeless young man, Michael Oher, and gave him the chance to reach his God-given potential. That homeless boy became the first-round NFL draft pick for the Baltimore Ravens in 2009. At a recent fundraiser, Sean Tuohy noted that the transformation of his family and Michael all started with two words. When they spotted Michael walking along the road on a cold November morning, Leigh Ann Tuohy uttered two words that changed their world. She told Sean, “Turn around.” They turned the car around, put Michael in their warm vehicle, and ultimately adopted him into their family. Hope was packaged for Michael Oher in the Tuohy family. Sometimes we don't recognize the packaging. The Thessalonian church was about to discover their friend in their adversity. They just needed to be aware of God's packaging for this gift who was coming. Sometimes we ask for things and miss God's answer because of the packaging. We all need strength and encouragement every day. What does that answer look like? Paul told the church of Thessalonica that they needed strength and encouragement so “we sent Timothy.” Timothy was to be their strength and encouragement. That is why God places a high value on making sure we stay right with brothers and sisters. That person you are fighting with may contain your answer to prayer. Locked up in them may be your strength and encouragement for today. God's packaging of His answers is usually wrapped up in flesh and blood. How about the greatest “flesh and blood” packaging? Jesus. Is there a friendship that needs to be repaired with an apology? You may be missing more than a friend, you may be missing your answer to your prayer. Make it a priority not only to call today but to understand that friendships are too valuable to let a hurt close them off. John Maxwell tells about a Midwestern fair in which “spectators gathered for an old-fashioned horse pull (an event where various weights are put on a horse-drawn sled and pulled along the ground). The grand-champion horse pulled a sled with 4,500 pounds on it. The runner-up was close, with a 4,400-pound pull if hitched together. Separately they totaled nearly 9,000 pounds, but when hitched and working together as a team, they pulled more than 12,000 pounds.” As the strength of the horse pull shows, there is more power being part of the body of Christ than just being some loner Christian. Your effectiveness multiplies when you are joined with the right people. Paul knew that he needed to put Timothy next to the Thessalonians so they would be able to pull a lot more; that Timothy would give them the encouragement and the strength they needed to pull the weight. The saying is true “that the quality of your life is determined by the quality of your relationships.” There is another saying, a Zambian proverb, that is equally true: “When you run alone, you run fast. But when you run together, you run far.” In their gift of Timothy, the young church in Thessalonica received help to run far. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, “By yourself you're unprotected. With a friend you can face the worst” (MSG). That's a good gift.
