This week: a sister-cast episode to a series we have called the Inbetweeners where we on the bands straddling the 80s and 90s in rock n' punk n' metal. This is more specific to metal in the 90s after feeling the impact of the overwhelming shifting of sounds during the decade. Metal became a dirty word by the mid-90s as grunge and alternative took over the rock world, but a new movement in the metal genre blended all of these influences with the heavy. Thus, we give you - 90s Alternative Metal! What's this InObscuria thing? Our podcast exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we cover mostly bands that have been forgotten including some bands that we played early on in the podcast. The transition from the heavy metal 80s to the punk-edged alternative of the 90s was a time like no other, and metal bands that began during this time put it all in an industrial-strength metal blender. Hope ya dig! Songs this week include:Quicksand – “Thorn In My Side” from Manic Compression (1995)Fragile Porcelain Mice – “Brown Nickel” from Frostbiddin (1996)Therapy? – “Nasuea” from Nurse (1992)Corrosion Of Conformity – “Clean My Wounds” from Deliverance (1994)Prong – “Unconditional” from Prove You Wrong (1991)Fight – “I Am Alive” from A Small Deadly Space (1995)Life Of Agony – “This Time” from River Runs Red (1993)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

In the 80s, the idea of special acoustic or unplugged albums and shows became a new medium that continues to today. Most think that Mtv started the movement in 1989 with their series called “unplugged”, however, most rock bands were playing acoustic renditions of their songs on radio when they would do in-town promotions long before then. This week we are celebrating bands that can re-imagine their songs with acoustic instruments and still rock! We are pulling the plug… and gasping for air guitars! What's this InObscuria thing? This week we pay homage to bands straddled the world of the 80s hard n' heavy and the 90s alternative n' grunge. These were bands that were somewhat outside of the status quo specifically in the hard rock and metal world that seemed to be playing music that was more genre and categorization-defying. Thus we've created our own non-genre called; The Inbetweeners! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we cover all 3 categories and even some bands that we played early on in the podcast. The transition from the hard-rockin' 80s to the punk-edged alternative of the 90s was a time like no other, and some bands simply got caught in the middle. Go and check out these songs and the albums that they come from and enjoy some music from The Inbetweeners! Songs this week include:Atomic Opera – “Joy Ride” from For Madmen Only (1994)Crimson Glory – “Dance With Fire” from Strange And Beautiful (1991)King Of Kings – “Open Your Arms” from Who's Your Guru? (1992)The Awful Truth – “Circle” from The Awful Truth (1989)Damn The Machine – “Lonesome God” from Damn The Machine (1993)Mind Over Four – “12 Days Of Wind” from The Goddess (1990)Saigon Kick – “Torture” from Water (1994)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

Really great chat with Dane.  We discuss Galactic Cowboys and the connection with Kings X.  Dane discusses a life changing moment with Dream Theater's John Petrucci.  Their label, pushing them hard and what happened.  Also, Nirvana not only killed glam rock, but didn't do Galactic any favors with their success.  We discuss the band being in the movie Airheads and he has a great Adam Sandler story.  Leaving the band, what he did in between then and coming back to record the latest album. What's next for the band, we shall see.   --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

This band straddled the world of the 80s hard n' heavy and the 90s alternative n' grunge during the first decade of their career. We talk to Monty Colvin - Musician, Artist & Podcaster. We follow Monty's journey with his early passions for art and drawing before music hit hard during his late school years and lead him to Houston, Texas. Here he would form the band Galactic Cowboys, whose unique brand of Alternative and Melodic Heavy Metal would land them a major record deal just six months after forming. Along the way they would feel the bite and impact of the 1990s record industry but not before appearances in Hollywood movies and seeing the world as a touring rock band. Today Monty continues to write and record with the band but balances his passions with that of a hugely successful art career and long time podcast host. Compact discs were the predominant physical medium for music in the 90s that, like cassettes and vinyl before, came with positives and negatives. No more rewinding or fast forwarding to find a song. Mobility meant moving from your home stereo, to your Discman, to your car with ease. Plus, you had almost eighty minutes to work with. That last one, however, became a curse as much as a blessing with albums like the 1996 release Machine Fish by Galactic Cowboys. If you're into hard rock/metal with a melodic bent, this album is just up your alley. Alas, left to their own devices, the gentlemen of Galactic Cowboys manage to stuff nearly every minute of this compact disc with riff upon riff, sometimes burying a gem behind walls of guitars, turning what could be three minute pop metal masterpieces into bloated five minute head scratchers. If this were an eight or nine songs album released on vinyl in the 1970s, that wouldn't be as much of an issue, but at fourteen songs and almost seventy minutes, even the most hearty will start to fatigue. And if that wasn't enough, we even conducted a bonus review of the Feel The Rage EP exclusive at our Patreon page.   Songs In This Episode:   Intro - Feel The Rage 18:25 - 9th Of June 30:33 - Fear Not 35:15 - Easy To Love 43:47 - Patting Yourself On The Back Outro - Psychotic Companion   To support the podcast, join us at Patreon for bonus content and more. I’m doing things a little bit differently for episode 44 of Love That Album. Rather than co hosting with a fellow fan of a particular album, I’ve gone straight to the source and am chatting with the musicians concerned. February this year saw the latest release from Australian singer songwriters Deborah Conway and Willie Zygier. They’ve been making wonderful albums for years, but with "Stories of Ghosts", they’ve just upped the ante. “Stories of Ghosts” is heaven for fans of brilliant songwriters – an ironic description considering the subject matter for the album is an exploration of their Jewish heritage from an atheist’s perspective. Make no mistake, however – this album is not about following a  Richard Dawkins agenda, nor is it bitter like Andy Partridge’s “Dear God.” These songs cover topics like hope, disappointment, and anger – themes that anyone can relate to – believer and non-believer alike. Deborah and Willie were fascinating interview subjects, and I hope you’ll enjoy our conversation. Song samples are included. NOTE: There were audio issues in the recording of this interview, but is still listenable overall. A good headphone listen. Eric Reanimator’s “Album I Love” segment features him talking about a metal band (I told you this was a different type of episode), The Galactic Cowboys and their album “Machine Fish”. Their album delves into questions of troubled faith, making it a perfect accompaniment to the Conway / Zygier album. …and for those of you who are concerned about how long these LTA shows run, this one is only a tad over an hour. Perfect for your work commute. You can download the podcast at iTunes by searching for “love that album”. You can stream or download it at “http://lovethatalbum.blogspot.com”.
