In part two of this deep conversation, two “happy” masters of meditation, Loch Kelly and Henry Shukman, explore a range of topics and questions through the lens of awakening as a natural human potential. What can we learn about how to shift into awake mind and heart to live with and recover from injury and long Covid? What is effortless focus and flow, aka Flow Know? And why is it so important for meditation and mindfulness practitioners to understand the distinctions between conventional mindfulness and more direct paths like Zen and Effortless Mindfulness? And finally, what are the benefits of new emergent spiritual models that integrate nondual mindfulness and Internal Family Systems? How does it work and how are models like this different from more traditional approaches to waking up and growing up? Loch and Henry Shukman engage with these questions and more.Part 1 RecapIn part one, Loch and Henry Shukman explore their similar and unique approaches to awakening. With delight and curiosity, they share some of their own initial awakening experiences. They also discuss their process of discovering and unfolding and how they share it with students. To this end, they unpack and illuminate the contemplative art and science of Inquiry and Koans as ways to shift out of the chattering mind and into our already awake heart mind. Henry talks about his experience with Zen Koans and Loch shares his Mahamudra approach to inquiry. Loch calls this Glimpsing, and it emphasizes immediate experiential pointers which help practitioners directly realize their already awake nature. Henry Shukman BioHenry Shukman is a meditation teacher, poet, author, and co-founder of the single-path meditation app The Way. His most recent books are Original Love: The Four Inns on the Path of Awakening (HarperOne) and the Zen memoir One Blade of Grass. Henry and Loch also lean into questions around the importance of integrating ancient wisdom approaches with contemporary models of psychology and human development. Other key areas of their trans-traditional dialogue include recognizing ordinary experiences and pain as opportunities for awakening. They also talk about the role of personal loss in awakening and the role of personal storytelling in teaching. They both agree that awakening is the discovery of what Henry calls Original Love (instead of Original Sin) and what Loch calls Unconditional Love, which allows us to live from Awake Loving Flow.Mindful Glimpse The episode features Loch offering a guided practice called “Compassion Is Already Here.” These mindful glimpses serve as invaluable tools for experiencing ways to access the awake consciousness that is already here within all of us.You can now explore all of Loch Kelly's practices and teachings on the new Mindful Glimpses app, found at https://lochkelly.org/mindful-glimpses. Some of the largest populations of Tufted Puffins are in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska and other northern coastlines. But University of Puget Sound professor Peter Hodum says the smaller colonies that breed off the coast of Washington and Oregon could provide key insights to conserve the whole species. The challenges facing birds at the fringes of their range could be the same ones that will affect the core populations further north in the future.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Want more BirdNote? The Telepathy Tapes has become one of the most popular podcasts in the world. Severely autistic non-verbal children and adults have apparently always been able to read minds, and they're receiving revelations from God that validate a Messianic Jewish perspective. Our guests today, First Fruits of Zion's Director of Education, D. Thomas Lancaster, and Jeremiah Michael from the Bram Center for Messianic Jewish Learning, are here to untangle the spiritual implications of this phenomenon—is it real? And if so, what is our proper response to it? – Takeaways – • Experts have historically dismissed telepathy, but new evidence has emerged that non-verbal autistic individuals have unique connections to a spiritual realm where such abilities may in fact exist. • While there was controversy among the scientific community in the original case studies, new technology and methods of communication have since evolved that invalidate the original objections to telepathy. • The nature of reality is complex, with spiritual dimensions influencing our perceptions. This exploration into the experience of non-verbal autistic children is a glimpse behind the veil of the material world into the world of souls. This vision validates the standard belief in Judaism of the pre-existence of the soul. This world of souls is where consciousness operates on a spiritual level beyond material understanding. • What these children have told us aligns with biblical stories and teachings within Judaism and the message they bring to the world emphasizes love and repentance. • Non-verbal autistic children have a profound spiritual mission. • The human ego often gets in the way of accessing the spiritual world. Severely autistic children seem to have acquired their gifts by virtue of their inherent lack of ego. This causes us to question, can anyone gain high spiritual giftings by putting themselves through a rigorous exercise to nullify the ego? • Idolatry is incompatible with the presence of God. • Regardless of what we are told regarding the spiritual world, the Scriptures must remain our guardrail to determine ultimate truth so that a person does not fall into the occult. • Necromancy is forbidden, but messages from the deceased can occur. • Jewish tradition around the soul's journey to God during sleep has been validated. • How can we best understand the fact that non-speaking autistic Jewish kids have not had experiences of meeting Jesus in their spiritual encounters? • There is a spiritual interconnectedness between the Jewish people. • Glimpsing into the world of thought elicits a profound sense of the fear of man but more importantly it ought to also lead us to a fear of God. • The primary takeaway is that God and the spiritual realm are actually real. The Messiah is coming and calling humanity to repentance. Since we are more than physical bodies, we should feel inspired to BE more and to LIVE for more than physical existence but to aim for things higher and more noble. – Resources – Messiah Podcast Episode 67: Autism, Telepathy, and Faith https://ffoz.org/messiah/podcast/autism-telepathy-and-faith The Beginning of Wisdom: https://ffoz.store/products/torah-club-beginning-of-wisdom-commentary-set-audiobook The Telepathy Tapes: https://thetelepathytapes.com/ Josiah's Fire: https://www.amazon.com/Josiahs-Fire-Autism-Stole-Words/dp/1424551404 The Book of Heaven: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1737898608 Messiah Podcast is a production of First Fruits of Zion (https://ffoz.org) in conjunction with Messiah Magazine. When Conal Doyle started his plaintiff's practice, he faced long odds and daunting obstacles.  But as one born without one of his legs who went on to become a ski racer, long odds and obstacles were nothing new to Conal.  Join Ben and Rahul for their discussion with Conal about how he bet on himself and his clients time and again, achieved monumental verdicts and changes to the legal system on his way to becoming one of California's most successful trial lawyers.     About Conal Doylehttps://conaldoylelaw.com/ Conal Doyle is an award-winning trial lawyer who has received national recognition for his courtroom victories that have had broad reaching impact on society. He is one of the few attorneys in history to argue before the United States Supreme Court and obtain multiple seven and eight figure jury verdicts. His international human rights victory in Castaneda v. United States was a catalyst for the reform of the United States immigration healthcare system, and garnered widespread acclaim from his peers, legal publications and the international media. For example, he received the 2012 California Lawyer of the Year (CLAY) Award in Human Rights, and the 2011 Trial Lawyer of the Year Award from the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA). He has been listed in both Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers for the past ten consecutive years, and his courtroom victories have been chronicled in newspapers around the world, including a piece on the CBS news magazine “60 Minutes.”Conal's reputation as one of the finest trial attorneys in America was further cemented with two stunning back-to-back verdicts in Kern County, California, one of California's most “conservative” jurisdictions. In December 2013, Conal obtained as lead trial counsel a $26.8 million medical malpractice jury verdict in McKnight v. Spain. This result was the largest medical malpractice verdict in County history and was recognized by The Daily Journal as a Top 10 Verdict in California for 2013. The National Law Journal recognized the verdict as a Top 100 Verdict nationally and the Consumer Attorneys Association of California (CAOC) named him a Finalist for the 2014 Consumer Attorney of the Year Award. The highest pre-trial offer by the defense was $300,000.In March 2014, Conal obtained as lead trial counsel a $3.8 million jury verdict in Doe v. Jack In The Box. In this premises liability case, the highest pre-trial offer was $200,000.The foundation of this success is a passion for justice and a commitment to client service. Conal was born without his right leg, and like many of his clients, has overcome great obstacles and endured daily struggles. These experiences provide him a unique insight into his clients' challenges and help him guide his clients through difficult times.Conal's personal experience has led him to focus on the representation of amputees in both first party bad faith and personal injury claims.  The Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) honored Conal as the 2020 Street Fighter of the Year for his work on behalf of amputees in Trujillo v. United Healthcare, a national ERISA health insurance class action.  The case required the nation's largest health insurer to change its claims practices and reprocess claims related to the denial of prosthetic devices to amputees.  Conal is also prosecuting two other class actions for wrongful denial of prosthetics-against Anthem and Blue Shield of California, among numerous individual bad faith claims for wrongful denial of prosthetics.Conal is well known as an advocate for amputees in injury and bad faith insurance claims. His article, “Glimpsing the Future for an Amputee,” is used as a guide for litigating limb loss cases by attorneys across the country.Conal has never backed down from a challenge or started a fight that he couldn't finish. When he isn't challenging corporate giants in the courtroom, Conal enjoys skiing the Rockies, a remnant from his past as an alpine ski racer. Honors & Awards2020 Consumer Attorneys Association of California (CAOC) Street Fighter of the Year Award2014 Finalist-Consumer Attorney of the Year-Consumer Attorneys Association of California (CAOC)The National Law Journal Top 100 Verdicts, 2013The Daily Journal Top 10 Verdicts, 20132012 California Lawyer Attorney of the Year (CLAY) Award2011 Trial Lawyer of the Year-Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA)2011 Attorney of the Year-The RecorderThe Best Lawyers in America, 2012 – PresentFinalist-2011 CAOC Consumer Attorney of the Year2011 Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in AmericaThe National Trial Lawyers Association Top 100, 2008 – PresentThe Daily Journal – Top 20 Under 40 in California, 2010Super Lawyers-Southern California Superlawyer, 2012 – PresentThe Daily Journal – Top 10 Verdicts, 2010Martindale Hubbell – AV Rating, 2007 – PresentSan Francisco Trial Lawyers Association – 2011 Civil Justice AwardThe National Law Journal-Appellate Lawyer of the Week, 20102011 Public Justice Achievement Award-Public Justice Foundation Public ServiceConal devotes a significant portion of his practice to public interest work and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Public Justice Foundation, a non-profit public interest law firm. In this podcast, Eckhart says it's vitally important that we become familiar with the mystical aspect of our lives. However, he explains it is not something we can easily define, nor can we truly understand sacredness until we catch a glimpse of it. For that to happen, Eckhart says we must learn to stop the mind with its incessant thinking and labeling so we can become present. Eckhart reveals that on a deeper level, presence is actually the presence of God. Not the traditional idea of God, but a vast intelligence that permeates the entire universe. For many he says thinking and objectifying others, as well as ourselves is a barrier to this direct experience. He explains the concept is beautifully illustrated by the Greek myth of narcissus.Want more podcasts from OWN? To truly address child physical abuse, we have to understand the scope of the problem and how the use of corporal punishment can escalate to the point in which children are harmed. What Dr. Amy Slep and her team did was to set up their research in such a way that it was truly anonymous, and parents could feel very safe to be completely honest about their use of corporal punishment and even their own self-identified physical abuse of their own children. As you will hear, parents admit—and to a shocking degree—physically disciplining infants, an unsafe practice that warrants help and support immediately. They admit a range of behaviors far beyond the spanking with an open hand that some of us might remember from childhood. Songbirds are amazing. I've spent a number of years getting to know the birds of the region of the U.S. where I live, and it's something that's given me lots of joy, as well as fresh perspectives on life and how we're all connected. But I'll never really manage to comprehend the life of a migratory bird (and many songbirds are migratory). Crossing mountain ranges and forests, the borders between countries, and even oceans in their amazing journeys—it's truly something beyond words. Bird banding is a research technique that allows us to glimpse this fascinating world of the songbirds. This story tells of a bird-banding project in Wyoming with the Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation (JHWF). It's part of a much larger project called Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship (MAPS), which takes place across the US and Canada. And although this story is focused on Wyoming, it's really much broader than that—a look at the extraordinary lives of songbirds and how we can understand them. For those of you who are near Jackson, Wyoming, you can find information about JHWF's bird banding sites and how to visit them during the summer here: https://jhwildlife.org/monitoring-avian-productivity-and-survivorship-maps-project/. And here are links to learn more about the MAPS and MoSI bird banding projects in the Americas. I produced this podcast using audio equipment and facilities provided by Missoula Community Access Television—many thanks to this “community media resource” for their assistance. I recorded the warbling vireo song that accompanies this episode in Montana. As always, I depend on the support of listeners and readers like you to continue producing stories like this one. Many thanks to all of my collaborators and patrons—I couldn't do this without you! The Story Radio team interview Sally Page, best-selling author of The Keeper of Stories, whose new novel The Book of Beginnings has just been published by HarperCollins. We talk to her about stationery, fountain pens, romance and ghosts. The Book of Beginnings tells the story of Jo, who is hiding from her past when she agrees to run her uncle's beloved stationery shop. Glimpsing the lives of her customers between the warm wooden shelves, as they scribble little notes and browse colourful notebooks, distracts her from her bruised heart. When she meets Ruth, a vicar running from a secret, and Malcolm, a septuagenarian still finding himself, she suddenly realizes she isn't alone. They each have a story that can transform Jo's life… if only she can let them in. This episode was produced by Martin Nathan. Martin Nathan's short fiction and poetry has appeared in a range of journals and his novel – A Place of Safety is published by Salt Publishing. His dramatic writing has been shortlisted for the Nick Darke award and the Woodward International Prize. After studying history at university, Sally Page moved to London to work in advertising. In her spare time she studied floristry at night school and eventually opened her own flower shop. Sally came to appreciate that flower shops offer a unique window into people's stories and she began to photograph and write about this floral life in a series of non-fiction books. Later, she continued her interest in writing when she founded her fountain pen company, Plooms.co.uk. In her debut novel, The Keeper of Stories, Sally combined her love of history and writing with her abiding interest in the stories people have to tell. In her second novel, The Book of Beginnings Sally draws on her love of stationery. Sally now lives in Dorset. Her eldest daughter, Alex, is studying to be a doctor and her younger daughter is the author, Libby Page. Both are keen wild swimmers.

Sermon Text: Colossians 1   Today, we released a new logo! Logos - and imagery of all kinds - makes our feelings, beliefs, and visions tangible. But the Bible is notoriously skeptical of images, because we can't capture God in a finite image. But what if God GAVE us an image? In Christ, God did. And all of our images are intended to point back to that singular image - Jesus crucified, resurrected, and coming again.   BONUS:  For the mission to be alive in the church, it has to be alive in us.  What is God cultivating, growing, and renewing in you?   Follow St. Mary's: https://www.facebook.com/stmarysunite... https://www.instagram.com/stmarysucc/   Want to support the work of St. Mary's? https://www.eservicepayments.com/cgi-...

MPF Discussion with Ian HaycroftGlimpsing Peace Through the Looking Glass of Failure with Ian Haycroft About IanIan is a kinesiologist who came to that work via a circuitous route. He left Australia in 1977 to "find his guru" in India on what was planned to be a one-year trip. He returned to Australia 22 years later having lived and worked in the United States and China and with his wife Kim began the process of raising their six children. Landing in Australia at 47 years of age with a family to support, the question "what am I going to do when I grow up?" arose and demanded a new answer. From that time Ian discovered a love for kinesiology and realised the guru he was looking for in 1977 was actually already within. He and Kim's children grew to explore their own lives, Ian helped build his kinesiology practice and a financial services business. Now living in rural Australia, Ian continues his Clearmindway practice online, and is working with others to expand the capacity for conscious communities to work together across the globe. He is clear now that the Wisdom Within exists in each of us, and our desire to be part of conscious and loving communities is irresistible, and that despite apparent evidence to the contrary on our daily news, peace is our destiny. On this episode of My Perfect Failure (Glimpsing Peace Through the Looking Glass of Failure) If you like me have a curiosity about our purpose and how we can find it, then this episode is a must listen for you.  Ian charts his journey to finding his purpose. From having a showdown with God and by chance being given a pamphlet in the street leading to his discovery of kinesiology.Ian also reveals with each failure we experience a little bit more about what we are not. “I invite you, therefore, in the name of the Church, to the observance of a holy Lent,” the pastor paused for breath and stretched out his hands to the congregation, trying by the power of his will to disbar the sleep from their eyes, for it was only seven in the morning, and a miracle that any of them were there at the appointed time. His voice called across the empty pews, “by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and almsgiving; and by reading and meditating on God's holy Word.” The assembled ten people, bilious from the carb-laden stupor of previous evening's Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, wrestled their wandering minds to the liturgical mat and began to confess their sins.It is an ancient practice — the observation of Lent — and one that for many, especially in the apocalypse of COVID-19, is falling by the way. It is becoming a vestigial yet beautiful anachronism for which formerly religious people feel nostalgia, without being able to remember why they obeyed when the church called for their penitent attention. This Postmodern Realities episode is a conversation with Journal author Anne Kennedy about her online-exclusive article, “Haven't We All Sacrificed Enough: A Christian Tries to Observe Lent”. https://www.equip.org/article/havent-we-all-sacrificed-enough-a-christian-tries-to-observe-lent/Starting in February 2021, online-exclusive articles, have been locked and are only available for Journal subscribers as noted below; however, given the time sensitive nature and global importance of this subject, our editorial board decided to make this available to the public as soon as possible.
