I discuss my wins of the week which were seeing our Discord community come together and learning how to create a Minecraft realm. I discuss my experience and thoughts on LEGO advent calendars, why the Star Wars one is the best this year, LEGO shopping at Kohl's and how you can get 20% off LEGO there, my love of the Mandalorian, my idea for a cartoon spin-off that is already being made probably, things I've been watching on Disney Plus, and the future of movie theaters with Warner signing a deal to put their 2021 movies on HBO Max at the same time they are in theaters. Lastly, we wrap up with some listener feedback and wins of the week.

We may be known these days as unmillennials, but at one time we were "latch-key" kids. And as such, most of us arrived home in the afternoons to man the fort either alone or with our siblings and very likely were met with a daily list of chores our parent or parents left for us. So when we find ourselves deep in parenting this new iGen generation and realizing that their idea of clean up is deleting files off their phone to make room for a new game, we gotta ask... is this okay? In today's episode on Chores, I'm owning up to my own struggle to teach my kids the value of hard work in the home and instilling in them the kind of "your contributions to this family matter" attitude that promotes self-worth and a can-do attitude. While "chores" may seem simply like a means to "get stuff done," they're actually an integral part of teaching kids to grow into self-sustaining, self-assured adults. (And yes, it doesn't hurt for mom or dad to have one less load of laundry to do as well.) In this show, you'll be introduced to Becky Mansfield of Your Modern Family. Becky's warmth and gentle spirit are infectious and she inspires in me a desire to create a better routine for my children. Throughout the episode we discuss: the importance of chores how it may actually be worse to "do" for your kids rather than helping them learn how to "do" for themselves the difference between an assigned chore and a daily responsibility how to start a routine when you - the parent - don't really feel like doing Pinterest-worthy "chore charts" plus a bonus discussion about the realization Becky made about how kids do better when they're forced to turn off separate screens and actually watch TV together I close out the show with a quick follow up discussion on an email I sent to Becky about how all of this should change/shift to accommodate busy school weeks. I also share with listeners the personal update on having to "cancel" Panera Fridays in favor of a new, quicker Friday morning routine. (And I hope that any of you who have started your OWN routines will tag me on social media and share your routine with me directly. I'm LOVING all the ones you've already told me about! Thank you again to Robin for commissioning this episode! I just realized that I'm only one episode away from the end of the book, and I'm completely unsure how this can possibly get wrapped up in a satisfactory manner. I'm LOVING this banana-pants book so far, though. I am actually remembering to post all of the links that Robin sent me, and I hope that you all will check them out! Robin, I'm pasting your words to me with the links, hopefully that's okay. "On the topic of North and Central Coast First Nations stories, there really aren't enough good resources out there - but the best printed collection of Haisla stories is actually by Eden Robinson's late uncle, Gordon Robinson. It's available on Smashwords at: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/6324Some of the other things mentioned, like ogres, ape men (probably the basis for sasquatch legends in the Pacific Northwest), and cannibals are more Haida, as far as I can tell. This page (which is periodically up and down) was recommended to me by a Coast Salish friend: http://www.native-languages.org/haida-legends.htmAlso, the Wikipedia page for the society that Nana Sophia was implied to be a part of in the first book doesn't look too bad: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamatsa"Thank you so much for listening, and I will see you soon with a new episode!
Welcome back!!! It's the kick-off of Season 3 of the Refine and Restore Podcast and what an honor it's been to show up in this digital space with you as we discuss relevant topics about faith, family, relationships, personal and spiritual growth, and other important topics. It's all about refining away the lies, false perspectives, negative cycles, and restoring your heart and mind back to what is true, healthy, and positive. For today's episode #26 I brought on two very special guest and friends that I’ve grown to know over the past few years on the online space and their names are Josh and Christi Straub. Josh and Christi Straub lead the Straub Co. and Famous at Home, organizations that use emotional intelligence to equip families and leaders to live, love, and lead well in their marriages, with their kids, and with those they lead. Both Fellows of the Townsend Institute for Leadership and Counseling, together they host the weekly In This Together podcast and lead TwentyTwoSix Parenting. Josh and Christi have two fun and feisty kids, Landon and Kennedy. They JUST launched their first children’s book, What Am I Feeling? which I'm LOVING so much! In this episode we cover: why understanding AND expressing our emotions is important how to do that well with our kids (and others) what to do when you end up exploding onto others in frustration and messing up big time in front of your kids, spouse or others close to you. This Is The Place (A Silicon Slopes Production) delivers wide-ranging, rarely serious commentary on tech, Utah, and everything in between. Hosted by Silicon Slopes editors Meg Morley Walter and Chris Rawle, This Is The Place examines Utah-centric stories that range from inspiring and relevant to completely bonkers. In episode 46, Chris and Meg continue their scooter conversation, having lived through the invasion. Then they discuss coughing sheep, heroin served on the rocks at McDonalds, and a smelly city.

My husband and I like to go on walks each night and discuss our day. Recently we had an in depth discussion on the importance of progress, in our respective creative work, over final product. This was a conversation I knew I needed to bring to the podcast. This week my wise and talented husband is talking about his experience with playing the piano, his doctoral research into practice habits, and he is sharing some very helpful tips for making the most use of your creative work time. We talk all about how creating a routine can help your work be more effective, how to stay motivated when in the sludge of the long work hours it takes to accomplish a big, big goal and he debunks a popular creative myth. Plus I've added a new segmented called I'm Loving where I'll celebrate female artists and small businesses. Listen in to this fun and incredibly inspiring conversation today. Add your voice to the conversation using the tag #howshecreates and by following me on instagram @laurenlikesblog. I'm LOVING all of the branding experts that we've been having on the show lately! I feel like you can never know enough about how to craft your BEST personal brand. So, in today's episode that's exactly what Brodie Pierson and I chat about. Fun fact about Brodie: Not only is he an international leader in Personal Brand Photography, but he also travels around the world helping people build their personal brand. Talk about molding your business around the lifestyle you want to live! I had so much fun on this episode! There was definitely a lot of laughing too, which I'm all about. Like I said, Brodie is an international leader in Personal Brand Photography. He empowers entrepreneurs to seamlessly craft an irresistible brand that will standout online. At the age of 20, he has traveled to Florence, Paris 2x, Miami, Hawaii 2x, Chicago, and Mallorca working with over 50 entrepreneurs he attracted through Facebook and Instagram. He has crafted personal brands for entrepreneurs in the Forbes, Thrive Global, HuffPost, TEDX Speakers, and #1 International Best Selling Authors.
I'm LOVING these 4D's intimate Q&A sessions we've been doing. This one's got some heavy topics in it that has something focused for everyone. Starting out with my thoughts on work life balance and then moving quickly into what separates my ideology behind Vaynermedia and other agencies. Gave my thoughts on the types of people that brands should be hiring for their content creation needs, and then dove right into converting organic growth into paid right hooks. Hope you all love this one !!

Thanks to this episodes sponsor, ContentSnare, Get Website Content From Clients Without The Hassle Feel like No One Is Listening? I've been there. And I'm going to warn you, this might be a bit of a rant, but it needs to be addressed. It seems like lately, I'm having a lot of conversations about people feeling frustrated with their business, or wondering "what to do?" I don't think this is a coincidence since I feel like I've finally gotten clarity around all of this myself. The thing that boggles my mind (and this isn't a judgment because I did the exact same thing), is that when we're TOLD what will change things and make the difference, we do nothing about it. Even if the person who is guiding us or helping us is walking the walk, has actual REAL LIFE evidence that what they're telling us works. We still don't listen! We are crazy creatures. Before I dive into this any further, let's dispell the myth once and for all: Building an online business takes time and work, just like any other business. Exciting, isn't it? NO! That's the problem with us... the basic, boring response of doing the work is NOT what we want to hear. This is the internet, after all, things are supposed to be MAGICAL here, right? It's all supposed to be easy. The problem with easy is that it's subjective. First, let me tell you that I will take building an online business over working a job any day. After having spent 20+ years in retail management, where I was on my feet all day (in dress shoes mind you, dressed up since I was the manager yet I still had the pleasure of being an extra pair of hands on a daily basis), and two bunion surgeries and plantar fasciitis later, that this beats doing that all day long (and now that I've stopped doing service work it's that much better). I get it that not all jobs are physically laborious, but we're not digging ditches or sitting in traffic for 2-3 hours a day (another reason I need to move out of the Bay Area in a couple years). I get that some of you may have day jobs too, so I'm not poking at you here, I'm simply pointing out to people that don't appreciate how much easier it is to work for themselves. Yes, there are struggles, challenges, money stress... I'm not negating that. But there's like this idea that this is all smooth sailing. This rant was brought on by an email I read this morning about someone feeling unhappy about their business. They had debated even continuing (this is a successful marketer), then realized they wanted to do things their way. They were tired of launches, fancy sales copy, marketing tactics, etc. Before I tell you why I think this is hogwash, let me say that what came through loud and clear in this email to me was that this person was TIRED. More than anything, they need a break. Some time off, a little space, and probably some simplification in their business (see what 14 years of therapy with an amazing therapist can do for you?). Now let's get into why this is hogwash... No-one is making you do ANYTHING you don't want to do! Don't want to do a 'launch'? Great. Don't. Don't want to write 'fancy copy'? Cool, write whatever you want. Want to be more authentic and do things your own way? Sweet, no one is stopping you. BUT... and you knew this was coming... You STILL have to market your business! If you had a brick & mortar store, would you be whining about having to market it? You better be good at writing copy (fancy or otherwise) if you're going to do any marketing. You're going to have to SELL... that's all marketing is, selling. The methods used for marketing online are obviously different (can you imagine trying to do a 4 series video launch for a product offline?), but they work. The frustrating (and kind of exciting) thing about the internet is that things change so fast. Just when you think you've figured something out they change the game on you. Or have they?
What I'm LOVING about anchor so far...and what it has to do with the bathroom, why anchor is beating iTunes in my heart and what I want to hear from YOU!
Episode 46: I'm backkkkkkk! I took a much needed break from social media and technology as many of you noticed. I needed some time to connect back to my heart. One of the best ways for me to do that is to unplug, escape into nature and discover new inspiration and excitement. I feel refreshed and excited, so thank you for being patient as I took a short break from the podcast. I never want to create for you just to "create." I always want there to be purpose and meaning behind it all, and sometimes breaks are necessary for me to put my best foot forward. Today I'm answering YOUR questions. I ask you all during every episode if you have questions you'd like me to answer. Normally your questions turn into entire episodes, but lately I've been compiling a list of shorter questions to answer all at once. Today I discuss: Do you have to have seriously disordered eating to benefit from your help, or can people like me who have always been a touch overweight because they just love food be helped too? What helps you, "get up and go"? What helps you do it again and again? What helps you snap out of it when you are in the middle of rejecting a healthy choice? Do you know a psychologist that is amazing with food issues that takes insurance? When is the struggles ever going to get better with weigh loss and exercises goals? Do you ever feel it's a struggle everyday? What exercises are good for someone starting over? I am very interested in health and nutrition and want to pursue a career change into the field. I know my current job drains my energy which has me reaching for junk food and skipping workouts. As a successful trainer working in the field, what would you recommend for someone looking to take my love of fitness and nutrition to the next level? how do you maintain workout routine when you travel? do you have to think about it ahead of time (like look up nearby gyms, or plan specific hotel room workouts) so that you hold yourself accountable once you get there? for someone who is on the road a lot, what advice would you give for short, cardio-heavy workout sessions not at home? How can I get more motivated I hope you enjoy today's episode format, I really love answering your questions and providing as much help and value to you as I can. If there's something I didn't cover that you'd like me to address on a future episode, please head to mywebsite and shoot me an email or leave your question on my blog. Looking for some new podcasts to listen to? I'm on a bit of a holiday hiatus from new episodes of Therapy Chat podcast. In the meantime, I wanted to tell you about some other podcasts I love. Here are 6 podcasts I'm listening to and recommending frequently! I hope you will check them out and please comment with your favorite podcast! 1. Women In-Depth with Dr. Lourdes Viado, MFT - I love this podcast because my friend and colleague Lourdes Viado conducts interesting and (as the name implies) in-depth interviews on topics that people don't usually talk about. Lourdes is a depth psychologist who was mentored by Jungian analyst and author Dr. James Hollis. She is so knowledgeable about her work and I love listening to her soothing voice. The podcast is fantastic and I recommend it without reservation! Some of the episodes I frequently recommend to my clients include: Episode 10: Spiritual Abuse: What It Is & Why It Matters with Tamara Powell, LMHC Episode 23: Understanding Spiritual Abuse (Part 2) with Tamara Powell, LMHC Episode 14: Women and the Midlife Crisis with Diann Wingert, LCSW Episode 21: Healing the Mother Wound with Bethany Webster Women In-Depth covers subjects that people may consider off-limits or taboo, such as infidelity, sexual abuse, staying in an unhappy marriage, and much more. I hope you'll check it out! Let me know what you think! I must add, Lourdes has been a guest on Therapy Chat too. I frequently tell people about her episode, which was about "The Shadow." To listen to that episode click here! I've also been a guest on her podcast. 2. Mom & Mind with Dr. Kat Ritchie - Dr. Kat is a clinical psychologist who specializes in maternal mental health. She is knowledgeable, skilled and experienced at helping people who are struggling with infertility, emotional health related to pregnancy - including pregnancy loss, and post-partum stress like depression, anxiety, OCD and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. Her podcast is a fabulous resource offering information to pregnant and parenting moms, fathers and people who are trying to conceive as well as healthcare providers and psychotherapists. I have learned so much from Dr. Kat and her podcast and I recommend it frequently! Start out with these episodes: Episode 1: My Postpartum Story: Anxiety and Depression Episode 3: Resources for PPD Healing and Learning Episode 7: The Good Mother Mom and Mind is a great resource. Stay tuned to my podcast to hear an upcoming interview with Dr. Kat. I can't wait to share her with my audience! 3. Galactic Vibrations with Keri Nola and Lloyd Burnett - if you've listened to my podcast you've heard Keri Nola there. She's been on twice, talking about intuition and the Shadow. I am a huge fan of both Keri and Lloyd, who are amazing energy healers and coaches. Their podcast is brand new (it came out less than a month ago) and it is a huge hit already. If you are into the "woo woo" stuff like I am, you'll enjoy hearing their energetic forecasts, oracle card readings, and so much more. Get started by listening to these three episodes: Episode 1: Understanding & Healing the Energy of Denial Episode 2: Using the Energy of Fear to Unlock the Mystery of Ascension Episode 3: The Shadow of Force, the Truth of New Years Resolutions, and People Pleasing I've done coaching for business and personal growth with both Keri and Lloyd. They're great at what they do! And as I mentioned, Keri has been on my podcast. She talked about using intuition in therapy in Episode 11, back when my podcast was called The Baltimore Annapolis Psychotherapy Podcast. And she contributed to my series of episodes on the Shadow (after Lourdes's episode, mentioned above) in Episode 42. 4. Launching Your Daughter with Nicole Burgess, LMFT - My friend and colleague Nicole Burgess, LMFT, practices in Indianapolis, Indiana with a focus on teen girls and women. Nicole is super passionate about her work and it comes through when you listen to her podcast. She has been kind enough to have me on her podcast twice! Once I talked about The Daring Way™ and the second time was about helping your daughter (or son) if they experience sexual violence. Nicole's podcast covers a wide variety of topics related to the issues of parenting girls. Here's a sampling of some of her episodes that I've enjoyed: Episode 34: How Art Therapy Can Be Effective With Teens Episode 33: How to Create Healthy Boundaries In Your Family Episode 31: Ways Parents & Teens Can Receive Support Around Suicide Prevention I hope you'll enjoy listening to Launching Your Daughter as much as I do. These last two podcasts are super amazing ones for therapists who are building private practices. Both of the podcasters are my buddies - they've both helped me in tons of different ways and if you're a therapist you probably already know of them. If not - prepare to have your mind blown! 5. Selling The Couch with Dr. Melvin Varghese - Melvin is an awesome psychologist in Philadelphia who wanted to start his own private practice so like any good student, he set out to learn from people who have already done it. Melvin has interviewed dozens upon dozens of therapists and other experts in practice-building to learn how they have managed to build successful private practices and other types of businesses. Melvin has interviewed experts on marketing, multiple income streams, running groups, building websites, creating Psychology Today profiles, writing books, mindset shifts, and so much more. He's had over 100 episodes so far and his podcast is listed in the top 100 business podcasts on iTunes, which is a pretty significant accomplishment! I'm super excited for Melvin as he's now building his private practice, following all that great advice he's received, and I know he will help many people! Here are a few of his most recent episodes. There are so many - if you're a therapist trying to build your private practice I recommend you listen to every episode - but here are a few to get you started: Episode 93: How Comparison Can Steal Your Joy Episode 92: My Morning Routine & Productivity Episode 85: Saying No As a Private Practice Owner Melvin was on my podcast talking about how therapists can use podcasting to grow their practices. He knows his stuff. He taught me pretty much everything I know about podcasting. Podcasting has enriched my life in so many ways and it's mainly Melvin who I have to thank for it. Here's Episode 49 of Therapy Chat with Melvin Varghese. 6. Blissful Practice Podcast with Dr. Agnes Wainman - this is another brand new podcast. Disclaimer - I was the first guest on this podcast. But I don't love it only because I've been on it. Agnes is a psychologist in Ontario, Canada who has learned the hard way how to create a private practice that feels blissful. She spent time at the other end of that spectrum, feeling burned out, and she wants to help therapists who are building private practices find their own bliss. On her podcast, Agnes talks to therapists about their journeys to private practice. I love her perspective and I think you'll love her podcast. Check it out here: Episode 3: Why I Became A Therapist Episode 2: Networking Guru Allison Salmon Puryear Episode 1: Therapists Can Change the World: A Discussion with Laura Reagan, LCSW-C Agnes was one of my early guests on Therapy Chat (back when it wasn't called that). Check out our interview here! So now you have my list of 6 podcasts I'm loving right now. When you have downtime this holiday season, check them out! I am sure you'll find at least one that you really love. Of course, you're always welcome to listen to Therapy Chat, there are 64 episodes counting the podcast version of this blog post, and I would love for you to listen, subscribe and leave a rating and review! If you want to read more of what I write, follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. You can also visit iTunes to subscribe to Therapy Chat.
