Since the beginning of time, God's design for humanity has always been to be a giant family spread throughout the earth. So what happened?Because of the power of sin in our world, families are broken, children become orphans, and many feel alone and isolated, as if they don't belong. Dr. Albert Reyes with Buckner International joins us today to share a hopeful message about God's design for his family.Dr. Albert Reyes is the author of Never Alone: The Power of Family to Inspire Hope and Hope Now: Peace, Healing, and Justice When the Kingdom Comes Near. He serves as the President and CEO of Buckner International, an underwriter of Faith & Finance. The Importance of FamiliesSadly, there is a growing effort to undermine the family structure. Strong families are critical to communities, cities, and any organization of humanity. Through Buckner International, they see the impact daily of providing strong families for children who need them and supporting existing families to thrive.Lessons from Biblical FamiliesExamining the families we see in the Bible reveals valuable lessons from their experiences—positive actions to emulate and mistakes to avoid. Despite their flaws, these families needed redemption, much like ours today. This underscores the importance of a redeemer in strengthening our family units.Buckner International's MissionBuckner International is grounded in the biblical directive from James 1:27, which emphasizes caring for orphans and widows. Their ministry focuses on two main areas: senior living and services for children and families. The Children and Families division provides foster care and adoption, support for single-parent families, and Family Hope Centers to aid struggling families. Additionally, they've distributed over 5 million pairs of shoes to children in more than 85 countries since 1994.Shoes for Orphan SoulsOne of Buckner's notable projects is "Shoes for Orphan Souls." This initiative collects new shoes for children, which volunteers sort, prepare, and ship. These shoes are crucial in allowing children to run, play, attend school, and stay healthy. Volunteers also include personal notes of encouragement, sharing the love of Christ with each child who receives a pair.Get InvolvedFor just $15, you can provide a pair of shoes to a child in need anywhere in the world. To contribute, visit GiveShoesToday.org.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I've got four credit cards and about $6,500 in debt, and I want to get rid of that debt. Should I go through the Trinity finance program, consolidate that, save some of those penalties and things, and get that paid off? Or is it better for my credit to go ahead and do the best I can to make the payments? Is that the best for my future?I have a second home, and my parents live in it. I've been thinking about selling it, but my parents are hesitant because they want to stay there until they pass. They're up there in age, but I just want to get rid of the house. I don't want to put my parents in a nursing home or anything, so what can I do? What are my options?I'm only 63, but I applied for disability. I'm about to have my fourth back surgery. So they asked me if I wanted to go ahead and receive social security while I was waiting for disability to be approved. So, I am receiving that $1,700 a month. Now, there is a cap on how much income, and I'm trying to continue to work to supplement that. But I have a cap of $1,400. That's still not enough to live on, so I live in my car now. But once I receive my disability, and that's approved, will there still be a cap on how much additional supplemental income I can earn?Resources Mentioned:Never Alone: The Power of Family to Inspire Hope by Dr. Albert ReyesBuckner Shoes for Orphan Souls (GiveShoesToday.com)Give To FaithFiRich Toward God: A Study on the Parable of the Rich FoolFind a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) or Certified Christian Financial Counselor (CertCFC)FaithFi App Remember, you can call in to ask your questions most days at (800) 525-7000. Conversation Highlights: (1:51) – Frame the issue. (3:22) - Suicide is a topic that no one wants to talk about. (5:01) – What are some of the warning signs? (6:29) - Myth: If you ask someone about suicide, it will give them the idea and encourage them to do it. (8:43) – What's the mission and the purpose of the walk? The theme is Hope Starts Here. (11:20) – Participating in the walk is a “moving experience.” (13:14) – “I see you. You are strong. What is the journey like when you're adopted and begin the search for your identity beyond your adoptive family? In this heart-warming and vulnerable conversation with Julie McGue, author of Twice a Daughter: A Search for Identity, Family, and Belonging, we dive into our own personal experiences of adoption from different angles. As a twin adopted in the sixties, Julie had the challenge of finding her birth parents, and the disappointment that initially came from her attempt for contact. About the Guest:Julie Ryan McGue is an American writer, a domestic adoptee, and an identical twin. She explores the topics of finding out who you are, where you belong and making sense of it. In this episode I talk about neurodiversity including autism, ADHD and dyslexia and how important it is to understand that we may unintentionally approach neurodiversity with a bias. You are invited to understand some common biases as we explore some of the ways that neurodiversity may be presented byanother person. Whether you are neurodivergent yourself, or have someone in your life that seems to see, hear, and process the world differently from you, this is an invitation to make a cup of tea and listen with an open heart. This one is for everyone, because everyone is different. Let's see the light in one another, drop the judgement and bias, and lean in with love and light! In this episode Heidi Dunstan and I have a candid discussion about the importance of talking about and acknowledging one another in grief. In the past few years it is hard to come across another human that has been free of experiencingloss. We are all grieving. For some it is fresh, for others it is aged, but remains – because grief is not bad – it's a testament to have loved. This episode is a gentle reminder to yourself as a griever, or as someone who is in the sphere of another in grief that it is not simply the loss that must be acknowledged, but the path of healing and hope that comes from allowing others to be seen. To truly help; honour, have empathy, love, and be present for and with another in their journey. With allowing it to be in what it is – tears, laughter, dark humor, or even silence. This episode will touch your heart for certain. About The GuestHeidi Dunstan is a Certified Grief Educator and best-selling author. Her passion to help others, learn more about grief, and how to support others who are grieving came after losing her husband unexpectedly almost three years ago. Her experience with friends and loved ones saying the wrong thing or completely disappearing gave her first-hand knowledge that many people have never learned how to grieve which often leaves grievers to grieve in isolation.Heidi Dunstan's Website - https://heididunstan.ca/About the Host: Tanya Gill, B.A./B.Ed, BSW,RSW, Certified Grief Practitioner, Certified Life Coach, and Joy AlchemistTanya's mission is to create a legacy of self-love for women that reinforces trust in themselves through our programs, coaching, podcast, and book, The Trifecta of Joy! In this episode I take you on an adventure and invite you into some of the ways, as wacky as it may seem, that I bring intentionality to something that may seem quite silly. Being intentional speaks to Bashar's 5 laws: You exist; All there is – is now; All is one and one is all; what you put out you get back, and everything changes except these 4 laws.In the realm of wellness, I share a unique opportunity that is brought forth with the intention to spread love and light – to inspire hope -and to connect, even if for a moment. Your observation of the world. Is your opportunity to shift what you are seeing. If you are looking for negative, bad, trouble or challenge - those things are a lot more likely to appear. When you're looking for possibilities, openness and opportunity, those too are more likely to appear. In this podcast I offer you a challenge I presented in our weekly SHINE group meeting. Shine is a group of people that come together to talk about mind, body, spirit, wellness, around challenges with food, body image, movement and recognizing that whole wellness is the most important part of wellness. In our SHINE group this week ew were talking about looking for acts of kindness. I invited our members to share an act of kindness that they had themselves personally observed recently. One person shared observing an act of kindness between two children. Where one just naturally reached out to help another one that was falling. Put their arm out as the child was falling, steadied them and returned to playing in a natural sequence of events. That kind of kindness, that automatic response kindness happens often. Observing it is so beautiful.Listen to learn the three steps to shifting your observation skills, and ultimately the way you see the world around you. www.freejoybook.comAbout the Host: Tanya's mission is to create a legacy of self-love for women that reinforces trust in themselves through our programs, coaching, podcast, and book, The Trifecta of Joy! Where can following your inner knowing take you and others? In this episode I have a powerful conversation with Genevieve Piturro, founder of Pajama Program, offering support, love, stories and pajamas to children in need. Genevieve shares how she significantly shifted her life path after living the corporate life and realizing that there was more for her to offer to the world and it's future. Dedicated to the legacy of change, impact, and providing space for children to be honoured in difficult times, Genevieve shares that some of her greatest lessons have been in the process of leaning into the unknown and following her heart. Finding cheerleaders and having an unwavering trust have been essential to her path of finding purpose in life. Maybe it is not so much about learning ‘new' teaching as it is understanding and applying what we have already been taught. What if we celebrated the value of ‘being reminded' instead of trying to learn new things. This is where we may find ‘hope' when things are not going well, as well as when things are going well. If we open our eyes to see, we will be stunned at the overflowing grace that has ‘already' been communicated to us. We will see it in the hurting, the outcast, those with less, those who have lost, those who have forgiven much, and in those who grieve. We may even see it in the words on pages in ‘sacred texts'. Barbie's hot new return may have brought a shortage of pink paint, but there's also a rising sense of nostalgia and recognition of her evolution through the years. Why is Barbie The Movie and all things Barbie making such a powerful comeback?Nostalgia.Barbie brings back memories of a simpler time for many of us. Hours of playing pretend, not as a mother to baby dolls, but inviting us to pretend we were adults doing adult things with our adult friends. A different kind of imagination. Barbie was an independent woman. Since her debut in March of 1959 Barbie has brought both positive and negative reactions through the years. She's been a hot topic between mothers, within the feminist movement, and in childcare settings. My mission with Perfectly Imperfect is to help other see the light in themselves. This means embracing body positivity and supporting women to love the light within themselves over the desire to be light by way of the scale. In a world that has changed so much Barbie's introduction, her long-standing success and influence is fascinating. Any way you look at it, Barbie is a powerhouse. Yes, Mattel is the marketing powerhouse, but BARBIE is the complex icon that has provided hours of play to many children, hours of sewing to many mothers, and many conversations about her messages and impact. She has evolved with the times and will likely continue to. For many of us Barbie will always have a special place in our hearts. Whether you're a Barbie lover or loather, she's here to stay. Are you a Barbie girl? What significance, if any, has Barbie had in your life? Perhaps revisit some memories or consider what messages you think she sends. Barbie is everywhere right now, so rather than running from it, let her be a beacon for your own reflection and spark conversation.About the Host: Tanya's mission is to create a legacy of self-love for women that reinforces trust in themselves through our programs, coaching, podcast, and book, The Trifecta of Joy! As part of the self-love summer series, I share my beloved Karen Westwood (Mia) with you. In The The Trifecta of Joy book, I share about the creation of my high counsel, Karen is a cherished soul sister of this group, and her wisdom is a gift I am so grateful to share with you! In this episode we talk – like we do as friends – about where we are in life, navigating change, priorities, parenting, children's health and wellbeing at any age, and the lessons and gifts along the way. In the process of life, we share our connection through grief and loss, and wanting to find healing for ourselves and others. The power of friendship and guidance from one another can help us find our centre, we need one another to hold one another up, encourage, and hold safe space for one another. This journey of life is difficult enough and this conversation is a reminder of having reflective experience in friendship. We share the way we are led by intuition, trust, and surrender by also trusting the process of life unfolding. Being who you want to be in the world and trusting the uncertainty of the outcome of our paths, the blooming peony is explored as a metaphor for life because I've been obsessing over the process of waiting for the bloom. Nature teaches us that the journey, environment, support and patience are key in life – and that we must realize that the outcome will come. Recognizing the tiny decisions you make along the way allow you to choose who you want to be in the world. This heart filled, playful, peaceful, and loving conversation is an honour to share with you. May this beautiful conversation be one of inspiration and nourish your heart. About the Guest:“Soul sister Karen is my spirit sister. She connects into my soul where peace is always found. Emblazoned on the beam over their dining room table are the words “Peace At Home”. Karen is home. She and I have created a magical space where energy is held with a depth of understanding unsaid. She is a creative inspirer, and passionate about the power of relationships between mothers and daughters. She is beauty defined in mind, body, and spirit because her energy is magical! This friendship is of a deeply spiritual level. Our non-linear journey of friendship is one of beautiful flow!” - Tanya Gill, The Trifecta of Joy, HELP yourself in a world of change About the Host: Tanya's mission is to create a legacy of self-love for women that reinforces trust in themselves through our programs, coaching, podcast, and book, The Trifecta of Joy! In this episode I get real about some of my own personal rawness as of late, and talk about the crisis that found myself in because of fear. Fear is future thinking brought to the present, but how do we get present? I acknowledge my own slip back into perfectionism and self-judgement, and the toll it has taken. There is a time and place for medical assistance, slowing down, and acknowledging that one step at a time counts. Do you ever meet the most interesting people in your Uber? In this podcast episode, I share an incredible woman with a message of finding joy in darkness and rising above. As a guest in her car, with the beauty of holding space, Gloria's story was both chilling and inspiring. I wanted her to share her story with you, and she was thrilled to, with a desire to inspire others! Gloria shares her story of childhood immigration, shifts in familial systems, abuse, poverty, and how she was determined to not be stuck in the world she was raised, but to strive for more. She shares her epiphany that her current pregnancy with a daughter is her opportunity to create a legacy of love as a parent, and what has led her to now. Once fearful that she didn't have the skills from her own mother to raise a female child, she has changed that narrative to an opportunity to give her baby the love she did not get from her own mother. We also discuss:- the impact of your environment-recognizing your trauma – abuse and manipulation-intentional change-miscarriage, loss, and hope-hurt people hurt people- healing from your hurt-the parental desire to love and protect-the legacy of self-love-following faith and intuition- support systems that can make a difference- the power of one caring adult-community, connection, and prideAbout the Guest:Gloria Sarpong is a licensed nurse, student, song writer, singer, and soon-to-be mother who has overcome incredible obstacles in her life. What is the value of listening? In this candid conversation with Deb Porter, Founder of HOLD- Hearing Out Life Drama – we explore the value of having a place to just share what is on our minds. When under stress, pressure, or in times of uncertainty, the desire to “just talk it out” can be present, but loved ones may not be the place. HOLD offers a space where clients can move from the intensity of their emotions and thoughts by being held in space where the focus is on the sharing rather than problem solving. With a professional history in Pastoral Care and funeral directing, Deb uses her skills to help people be heard in their life experiences as a way to release pressure, and gain insight. We also touch on:what it means to be a good listenerthe “Mr. Rogers” effectthe difference between a confidential listening service and therapeutic interventionthe power of HELP from the heartAbout the Guest: Deb Porter is on a mission to "Mr. Rogers" the world through teaching & practicing confidential, compassionate listening. Waiting can be a source of anxiety for some, and a space of peace for others. On a recent trip to Dallas, I met two new friends who are legally blind. While they use all of their abilities to navigate life, they intuitively also know when to wait, and when to proceed. This prompted me to consider the ways that the typically-abled may experience waiting, and the power of intuition. In this episode you're invited into considering the value of tapping into your intuition when confronted with the experience of waiting. I share three ways to tap into your intuition and harness the power of your own deep knowing to move forward. I also invite you to consider:· the power of mindfulness· practicing presence· distinguishing between inner critic and intuition· waiting as an opportunity for growth· values and priorities· noticing negative self-talk· making better decisions· seeking help in the processIf you're ready for some help in your process of waiting, be sure to book a complimentary spark session and let's find the best path forward for you! Welcome back to the BE ENCOURAGED! Podcast! I am your host Jackie Brindle and you are listening to episode # 105 today! I want to say that I appreciate that you chose to press play today! Please note that the BE ENCOURAGED! Podcast is on a new schedule for when each episode comes out! I initially started the year by stating that there would be an episode airing every other week, but with some unforeseen circumstances like taking doctorate courses in strategic leadership at Liberty University Online, has made this quite a challenge to find the time to maintain the podcast. This program has certainly humbled me and I am grateful for my family's support and my husband's sweet care of our family while I burn the midnight oil most nights. Therefore, all production of episodes and publication of The BE ENCOURAGED! Podcast will come to a halt until the end of March! SPRING TIME! All that to say — our guest speaker is a wonderful example of leadership. Amy Thurston is our guest who leads with excellence, takes risks, has great ambitions, and values others deeply. Amy Thurston is the Co-Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Hope Inspire Love. As CEO, she is passionate about leading the organization's daily operations and strategic planning efforts. As a seasoned executive, she is guiding the mission of eradicating human trafficking and sexual exploitation, empowering survivors of sex trafficking to flourish and thrive. Fueled by her passion for justice, she has spent nearly two decades building innovative programs that apply a social justice lens to teens and young adults experiencing trauma. By empowering survivors to outgrow the label of 'survivor' and fostering their strengths, she has cultivated critical efforts to uplift, inspire, and encourage others to be their best selves. She currently spearheads Hope Inspire Love's Trauma-informed Mentorship Program, where she works with survivors of sex trafficking and sexual exploitation. She also sits on the board of Greenlight Operation, a nonprofit that strategically combats human trafficking through educational initiatives and serves sex-trafficked women through a continuum of restorative care.
