Ruchi starts by sharing a story about how she thought a Prada purse would make her happy when she was on Wall Street. We are searching for external validation, but it really comes down to the work we do internally. Ruchi shares about the success and corporate ladder climbing she did early on, and how hollow it really felt. After hiring a coach, she found her calling as a “financial therapist.” It was learning about the 3 pillars that changed everything for Ruchi: well-being, spirituality, and relationships. Well-being means asking the question, what brings you joy? Budget time and money for those things! A key point is to always expand your comfort zone. A huge part of the spirituality pillar is to pay attention to more of your 60,000 thoughts per day. Use the RIR method, recognize the thoughts, interrupt them when they're negative, and reframe them positively. Both Lauren and Ruchi share real examples of the RIR method in their own lives. As for the final pillar, relationships, ask yourself when you're at your best, who are you with? Not everyone is meant to be in our lives forever. Keep in mind how you want to feel every day. Be clear about what you want your life to be like in one year. If you liked this episode, you'll also like episode 31: Financial Planning for Women and 118: Friends, FOMO, and Finances. If this is the next 30 yrs of your life, is this enough? That's what Genevieve Piturro asked herself and then everything changed! That was the question that started it all for her and it came from her heart. Listen to what she has to say: Now, everything I do is about empowering you to create a more fulfilling life and be a more purposeful and impactful leader. As I like to say, it starts with FINDING YOUR PAJAMAS! You see, my life changed forever the day I made it my mission to get children in emergency shelters across New York City a pair of pajamas. Such a simple gesture touched so many hearts big and small, and we expanded across the country! Before I began volunteering to read bedtime stories to these children, I had no idea that tens of thousands of them were going to bed every night without pajamas. You can imagine the trauma, despair, and loneliness I saw in the children's faces and that broke my heart, over and over again. Once I began my visits with pajamas, my heart seemed to know what to do – I had found my purpose – in PAJAMAS. Instead of just dreaming about doing something great, I founded Pajama Program, which is changing the lives of children, but also impacting so many of our supporters' lives too. Learning to listen to the voice in my heart changed my life forever and helped me become the person – and leader - I always wanted to be. And in the middle of it all, I found myself being interviewed by Oprah! Now, Let's Talk About YOUR Purpose, Passion, and Leadership! I have learned that everything begins when we find purpose in our lives. So many of us are re-evaluating our paths because we want more fulfillment. We want the work we do and the people we do it with to make a difference in this world. This kind of thinking can transform how you do your job, how office teams work together, and how leaders at every level lead. I want to help you listen to your heart voice, honor your purpose and your passion, and FIND YOUR PAJAMAS! Our next guest is Genevieve Piturro! Instead of just dreaming about doing something great, she founded Pajama Program, which is changing the lives of children, but also impacting so many of their supporters' lives too. Learning to listen to the voice in her heart changed her life forever and helped her become the person – and leader - she always wanted to be. And in the middle of it all, she found herself being interviewed by Oprah! She has learned that everything begins when we find purpose in our lives. So many of us are re-evaluating our paths because we want more fulfillment. We want the work we do and the people we do it with to make a difference in this world. This kind of thinking can transform how you do your job, how office teams work together, and how leaders at every level lead. In episode 287 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out why Genevieve decided to attend Fordham, why she decided to jump off the corporate ladder, how she found herself being interviewed by Oprah, how college students can find their purpose, how we can find a shared vision between employees and their company, what college students can do to get a good job at graduation, how college students can gather their human connections and organize them properly for action, why a vision board is so helpful, and what college students should do if they realize they made a wrong turn with their career plan. I kick off this week's episode with the amazingly romantic and, at times, absurd story of my engagement in Vegas in 2003. I share a unique way to let someone know that you are proud of them. Genevieve and I discuss the story of how one question changed the direction of her life, the genesis of the Pajama Program, the gift of modeling for children, the need for human connection, how to listen to your "heart voice", and the importance of taking time for self-reflection. We end with an entertaining version of "The Lightning Round." Be sure to stick around to the end for an exciting offer. To Learn More About Genevieve's work please visit https://www.genevievepiturro.com/
Genevieve Piturro was a veteran, successful tv marketing executive in New York City when one night she asked herself, “Is this enough?”. Before long, she was honoring a calling to support children through a simple act of providing pajamas to those in emergency shelters. By 2001, that grew into the Pajama Program, a nationwide organization ensuring children are supported at bedtime. To date, the organization has provided over 7 million pajamas and storybooks to children who are experiencing challenges beyond their control. Today's episode is perfect for Thanksgiving — a story about kindness, love, and the power of giving. In this episode of Before IT Happened, our host Donna Loughlin talks to author, speaker, and advocate Genevieve Piturro. After a 12-year career as a corporate climber in New York City, Genevieve started visiting shelters to read to children. Soon she realized something, these children needed pajamas. Since 2001, Genevieve's nonprofit Pajama Program has given over 7 million books and pajamas to children in need in the US. This is a story about finding purpose and getting to that aha moment that can change your life. Listen now to learn how this one-time corporate executive turned her life around after discovering the power behind the love and comfort behind a pair of pajamas. Before any world-changing innovation, there was a moment, an event, a realization that sparked the idea before it happened. This is a podcast about that moment — about that idea. Before IT Happened takes you on a journey with the innovators who imagined — and are still imagining — our future. Join host Donna Loughlin as her guests tell their stories of how they brought their visions to life. JUMP STRAIGHT INTO: (01:24) - Leaving the nest with traditional Italian-American parents - “Mary Tyler Moore was what really cemented being a corporate girl. I wanted what she had. She was making her way in a big city. For her it was Minneapolis, for me it was New York.” (07:35) - Diving into the radio & TV industry - “The TV people were coming in and they were always wondering, ‘What are you doing overnight?' I told them about my TV aspirations and I got hired.” (10:37) - A great 12-year corporate career and the ‘Aha!' moment - “I heard a question asked by me to me: ‘If this is the next 30 years of your life is this enough?'” (17:17) - The beginning of the pajama program - “Maybe it's like a mom feeling when they have little ones and can't wait to get back from work to spend time with them.” (22:42) - Giving up a corporate career for a new passion - “I would have been fired if I didn't finally leave. I just couldn't say no to the request to visit and to bring pajamas. And I had to leave early because I had to go shopping.” (28:11) - Taking the pajama program to the next level - “The woman said, ‘I'm so-and-so from the Oprah Winfrey show. Do you have a minute?' And half of me was screaming up and down.” (34:49) - Genevieve's book: Purpose, Passion and Pajamas - “I've learned it's not the power of one that changes things. It's the power of one another that moves mountains and moves people. And that's what I want to share.” EPISODE RESOURCES: Connect with Genevieve through https://www.genevievepiturro.com/ (Genevieve Piturro).com, https://www.linkedin.com/in/genevievepiturro/ (LinkedIn), https://www.facebook.com/GenevievePajama (Facebook), https://www.instagram.com/genevievepiturro/?hl=en (Instagram), and https://twitter.com/GenPiturro (Twitter) Learn more about the https://pajamaprogram.org/ (Pajama Program) Get Genevieve's book: https://www.amazon.com/Genevieve-Piturro/e/B08D4Y5D9V%3Fref=dbs_a_mng_rwt_scns_share (Purpose, Passion, and Pajamas by Genevieve M Piturro ) Watch Genevieve's Tedx Talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNBTnzwzpwo (1 Story + The Human Connection = 7 Million Pajamas and Books) Thank you for listening!
