Lee Woodruff's life reads like fiction — a college meet-not-quite-cute with her future husband Bob, a front-row seat to the Tiananmen Square crackdown that redirected Bob's entire career, his meteoric rise to co-anchor of ABC's World News Tonight, and then, just weeks into that dream job, a roadside bomb in Iraq that nearly killed him.  In this conversation, Lee shares how she got the call while at Disney World with their four kids, the surreal days that followed, and the 36-day coma that ended with Bob speaking Mandarin and French before he could speak English again. She opens up about "ambiguous loss" — the complicated grief of loving someone who survived but changed — and the "four F's" (family, friends, funny, faith) that got her through. Lee also talks candidly about the Bob Woodruff Foundation, which has now raised more than $80 million for veterans and military families, and about her own definition of optimism: not the absence of hard days, but the belief that tomorrow can be better.     Chapters:  00:31 The Woodruff Story: Love and Triumph 02:08 A Life of Accomplishments 04:42 The Impact of Tiananmen Square 08:31 The Shocking News 12:14 The Four F's: Coping Mechanisms 13:16 The Birth of the Bob Woodruff Foundation 16:03 Finding Strength in Adversity 19:14 Bob's Remarkable Recovery 22:05 Navigating Complicated Grief 25:57 The Pursuit of Happiness 29:02 The Foundation's Humble Beginnings 30:31 Innovative Solutions for Veterans 32:06 Mobilizing Awareness Through Personal Experience 33:05 Navigating Caregiving and Grief 35:30 The Journey of Optimism 37:11 The Impact on Family: Growing Through Adversity 40:49 Looking Ahead: New Ventures and Aspirations

We're kicking off Resort Wars: Showdown, a brand-new phase of our popular series where previous Resort Wars winners return to face each other head-to-head. From here, the winners keep advancing until only one Walt Disney World resort is left standing as the ultimate Resort Wars champion. Our first Showdown features two fan-favorite Moderate Resorts with very different personalities: Disney's Coronado Springs Resort vs. Disney's Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. We put these former champions through our familiar Resort Wars categories, comparing them on theming and atmosphere, rooms and comfort, dining and drinks, transportation and location, recreation and amenities, and overall value. Coronado Springs brings Gran Destino Tower, an impressive dining and lounge lineup, beautiful grounds, and amenities that can sometimes make it feel more Deluxe than Moderate. Riverside counters with peaceful Southern charm, gorgeous landscaping along the Sassagoula River, boat transportation to Disney Springs, classic Disney atmosphere, and one of the most relaxing resort experiences on property. Plus, we bring in the listener vote to see which resort the Main Street Magic community thinks deserves to advance. Two Resort Wars winners enter the Showdown. Only one moves on. Which resort survives the first battle?

In this heartfelt episode of World of Wishes, we are joined by Abby Lindenberg, a devoted wish mom whose daughter Layla's journey is defined by resilience, hope, and a powerful transformation from uncertainty to light. Layla was diagnosed with an ultra‑rare genetic condition called alpha‑mannosidosis, a disorder that affects muscle strength, balance, hearing, cognition, and overall development. For years, Abby and her family navigated what she describes as a diagnostic “odyssey”—visiting more than a dozen specialists, sensing that something wasn't right, yet struggling without answers. When the diagnosis finally came, it brought fear and anxiety, but also relief in finally having a name—and a path forward. Layla ultimately underwent a bone marrow transplant, a life‑altering and intense treatment that offered her the brightest possible future. Abby shares honestly about the emotional toll of watching a seemingly healthy child endure such an invasive procedure, the faith required to move forward, and the long months spent inpatient during Layla's recovery. Two years later, the results are extraordinary: Layla is present, joyful, active, and embracing life in ways that once felt uncertain. That's when Make‑A‑Wish entered their lives. During Layla's recovery, her daily ritual became dressing up as a princess—finding joy, imagination, and strength even on the hardest days. That simple act revealed her deepest wish: a magical experience at Walt Disney World, where Layla could fully live out her princess dreams. In this episode, Abby recounts what the wish meant—not just for Layla, but for her entire family. From staying at Give Kids The World, to the care and generosity of volunteers, to seeing her daughter fully present and glowing with joy, the wish marked a powerful milestone: a celebration of survival, healing, and gratitude on the other side of darkness. This conversation is a testament to parental advocacy, to living moment by moment through unimaginable challenges, and to the profound impact a wish can have in helping families reclaim joy and light.Learn more about how can get involved at https://wish.org/sfla!Be sure to follow us @makeawishsfla on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, and LinkedIn!Subscribe, Rate, & Review this podcast to support future episodes that will feature wish kids and parents' past and present, volunteers, donors, referral sources and everyone who contributes to this World of Wishes!

With more than two decades in the attractions and hospitality industry, Ryan has built a career spanning Kings Dominion, Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Holland America Cruise Line, Carowinds, and now Six Flags Magic Mountain. Through Little Birdie Consulting, he helps organizations create stronger leaders, more connected teams, and more meaningful guest experiences by blending hospitality, creativity, and community. In this interview, Ryan talks about how creativity builds community, the intentionality of hospitality, and quicksand. Creativity Builds Community “Creativity builds community.” Ryan challenges the common belief that creativity belongs only to artists, musicians, or performers. Instead, he argues that creativity is found in every profession, whether someone is designing an experience, organizing a warehouse, solving operational problems, or managing finances. When people stop limiting themselves with labels like "I'm not creative," they begin approaching challenges with fresh perspectives and greater confidence. He explains that creativity also strengthens relationships. By inviting people with different skills and viewpoints into the process, organizations build stronger communities where everyone contributes in meaningful ways. That sense of shared ownership ultimately leads to better experiences for both employees and guests. Intentionality Of Hospitality “I think intentional hospitality means that everyone knows what the goal is.” For Ryan, hospitality is not reserved for guests. Leaders must treat their own team members as guests first. He shares how small details, from preparing a meeting room before participants arrive to creating memorable first-day experiences for new employees, communicate respect and care long before any formal training begins. Throughout the conversation, Ryan emphasizes that hospitality is demonstrated through preparation rather than good intentions. Organizations often focus on serving external guests while overlooking the everyday moments that shape the employee experience. By becoming more intentional behind the scenes, leaders create cultures where exceptional hospitality naturally extends to every guest interaction. Quicksand “When you say you're busy, that's quicksand.” Ryan uses the idea of quicksand as a metaphor for the beliefs and phrases that quietly trap leaders. Labels like "we're too busy," "communication is our problem," or "there's too much drama" become excuses that prevent organizations from identifying the real issues underneath. Instead of accepting broad statements, leaders should dig deeper to understand what is actually creating friction. He encourages leaders to recognize the "stick" that helps them escape quicksand by replacing assumptions with curiosity, specificity, and action. When leaders challenge limiting beliefs, they create healthier workplaces that are better equipped to support both employees and guests.   Ryan invites listeners to connect with him on LinkedIn and follow Little Birdie Consulting on Instagram, where he shares leadership insights, hospitality ideas, his bi-weekly podcast, and curated "Birdie Beats" playlists designed to inspire and energize. Lantz sits down with Adam Tarnow — author of The Fog of Work, former CPA, former church staff member, and now a leadership development coach and workshop facilitator — for a conversation about the specific brand of stress that hits every leader the moment they get promoted: being held accountable for results they don't fully control.Adam walks through the "valley" his own boss drew for him decades ago — pressure from above, pressure from below, and the leader stuck in the middle — and how he spent years looking for a way out before a mentor named Randy Marshall showed him there isn't one. There's only a way through. That way through became "Control Your Controllables," a simple fill-in-the-blank operating system built on the dichotomy of control: I don't control ___, but I do control ___, so I will ___.The conversation moves from Disney World leadership lessons to raising teenage boys who mock (and absorb) their dad's one-liners, from "awkwardophobia" to why courage — not serenity — is the thing most leaders are actually short on. It's a conversation for anyone who feels like they climbed the ladder only to find themselves stuck, stressed, and quietly looking for a villain to blame.--"Your story doesn't have a villain, it's just got a valley.""There's no way out of the valley. But there's a way through.""I don't need more serenity. What I need is more courage.""I don't control ___, but I do control ___, so I will ___.""The mid-level leader is the backbone of the global economy — and they are hurting.""It's not that you've got the answers. It's that you've got the questions."--If you've ever climbed the ladder only to feel stuck, stressed, or quietly looking for someone to blame — this conversation is for you. 877 · Disney Worldbuilders Interview with Leslie IwerksDisney Worldbuilders asks a question most of us have never thought to ask... where does a Disney world actually begin? Not the land. Not the ride. The moment before any of it existed, when it was still just a feeling inside one person's head. This week I sit down with Leslie Iwerks, director of The Imagineering Story and Disneyland Handcrafted, to talk about her ambitious new documentary. Disney Worldbuilders brings together Bob Iger, Josh D'Amaro, James Cameron, Kevin Feige, Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Pete Docter, Jennifer Lee, and Jared Bush for a series of remarkably candid conversations about how deeply personal ideas become stories, characters, and physical worlds that millions of people can walk into.I had the privilege of screening the film before its release, and it is even better than I hoped. In our conversation, Leslie shares:Why so many of today's most influential creators were Disney fans first, and what that says about the parksHow personal struggles and childhood memories shaped stories like Frozen, Inside Out, and ZootopiaThe brutal note Jared Bush received on an early version of Zootopia, and what pulled it back from the edgeWhy Kevin Feige's favorite detail in any Disney land is a construction wallWhy story and technology have always worked together at Disney, going back to Walt and UbWhat creative failure, uncertainty, and rejection can teach the rest of usHow great leadership protects storytellers and creative riskWhy honoring Disney's history cannot mean being afraid to evolve itThe moment Leslie filmed that became the emotional heart of the filmLeslie also reflects on her grandfather, Disney Legend Ub Iwerks, and her father, Disney Legend Don Iwerks, and how their legacy of combining storytelling and technology continues through Disney's worldbuilders today. She does not just study world builders. She comes from them.Disney Worldbuilders premieres at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on August 16 and begins streaming on Disney+ on August 20.Subscribe to WDW Radio so you never miss an episode. Send us Fan MailEpisode 261: The Things Disney Doesn't Teach You in TraditionsThere's plenty Disney teaches you when you become a Cast Member: traditions, training, safety, courtesy, show and efficiency. But then there are all the things you only learn once you're actually there. This week on The Mickeyphile Podcast, Scott and Karen go behind the scenes at Walt Disney World to talk about the Cast Member experience — not to give away the magic, but to look at the culture, routines and everyday realities that aren't necessarily covered in Traditions. What is Traditions actually like? What happens after that first big “Welcome to Disney” moment? Scott compares his experiences starting with Disney Transportation and later moving into Attractions, including park orientation, training, learning backstage areas, finding break rooms, navigating Magic Kingdom costuming, getting around without ever entering guest areas, and all the little things you eventually learn simply by being a Cast Member. And yes, we get into the famous Disney two-finger point. Is that actually something Cast Members are formally taught? Before we head backstage, there's plenty of Disney news to cover:• The Diamond Horseshoe at Magic Kingdom is getting a limited-time food and drink pop-up, including some surprisingly interesting additions to the menu.• Disney Cruise Line has revealed plans for three new ships to launch during 2029, with another ship now scheduled farther into the future. We also talk about the upcoming Disney Believe and somehow end up ranking some of our favorite Disney Cruise Line stage shows.• Walt Disney World Annual Passholders are getting new Muppets-themed offerings at Disney's Hollywood Studios, including a Kermit the Frog magnet, a Disney PhotoPass Magic Shot and a specialty milkshake.• Hallmark is heading to Walt Disney World for Holiday Ever After: A Disney World Wish Come True, a new original holiday movie starring Lacey Chabert.• D23 is coming up with Disney Parks presentations, films, television, Disney Legends, Alan Menken, Marvel, Lucasfilm and more. But will we finally learn something substantial about the future of Walt Disney World — especially Villains Land?• Disney Vacation Club news includes an upcoming Kidani Village lobby refurbishment and new details about Disney Lakeshore Lodge, including its Pocahontas-inspired lobby, private lounge and new dining locations.Plus, we talk about Central Florida's relentless summer weather, what happens when lightning shuts down outdoor attractions, and how quickly a Walt Disney World attraction can go from closed to an 85-minute wait. It's Disney news, Cast Member stories and a look at the parts of working at Walt Disney World that you don't really understand until you're actually there.

We are less than a week away from D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event and we couldn't be more excited for it. We can't wait to experience all the fun, excitement and positivity that flows throughout this incredible Disney happening. But, before all the highly anticipated announcements begin, we like to share our thoughts on what we may learn from the weekend. So, we're doing that on this week's show. We'll discuss many of the items that are likely to be showcased in the biggest panels, of course. But that's not completely what this episode is about. This one is about the wild things that may surprise us all. So, we're focusing on our Wild D23 Predictions That Probably Won't Come True (But We Hope They Do). Find out what unlikely things we'd like to see be announced. Then check back to see if any of them actually happen. Disney Stories of the Week Once we complete our time sharing our Wild D23 Predictions That Probably Won't Come True, it's time for the Disney Stories of the Week. In this episode, we share more details we learned about some of the interior spaces at Walt Disney World's next fantastic resort. We also tell you about new food & drink options that are coming to a popular Frontierland location at Magic Kingdom. Certainly, that's not all. As always, we wrap it all up with tips that might help you on your next Disney vacation.   If you have any comments, questions, or requests to cover a particular topic, please feel free to Contact Us!   We also invite you to join the positive fun in our Hyperion Adventurers Facebook Group as well as our Hyperion Mornings on YouTube for a daily dose of live positive chat!   Thanks for listening! Cheers!
