Lisa Thal is an Author, Speaker, and Business Coach.  Simplify Your Sales meetings. She wrote the book "Three Word Meetings."  Lisa coaches leaders on simplifying sales and business meetings with fun and interesting 3-word  topics to get your sales team motivated and inspired.  She has over 34 years of marketing, sales, and leadership experience.   In episode 96, Learn how to Clear out 1,000 emails from your inbox in an hour!     Well, Spring is here! Most of us do these things in the Spring. Change our smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector batteries. We move the furniture like a couch to cleanout. Get our AC units tuned up. We empty our closets and switch out our winter to spring clothes. Maybe for some of us, our winter sweats to Spring attire. Or call 1-800. Got Junk to call them and point at the things you want to disappear.    Isn't it a great feeling when you go through this process? You clear out and update what no longer is working for you.   Let me ask you a question. What Spring cleaning do you need to do with your business? What can you do to clear away or update to improve your business?    In your next sales meeting, discuss the following items to see if they could use a little sprucing up.   Discuss as a team the best approach to earning the first meeting. Is there a better way to save you time, a proven process when reaching a new client? Is it time to review your sales materials you send prospective customers? The materials you use to position the key benefits and differences in working with you and your company. VBR's - have you updated them to be relevant in today's business world? Have you taken the time to spruce up your LinkedIn profile? Start with updating your recommendations by adding some from this year. Reach out to Happy customers and ask them to write a referral for you; for more tips, follow Jennifer Darling, who is the expert on generating leads through LinkedIn. Organize your email inbox! An email has become one of the ways we communicate in business. But it doesn't have to steal valuable time away from you moving your business forward. Your inbox may be a lot like your closet, which needs some purging or better organization.    Apply this one-hour strategy, and you will feel more in control of your emails versus the emails controlling you and your day.    Minutes 1 to 10: clear out the Junk I like starting by sorting by who sent the email. I allow myself ten minutes to delete all the junk emails. These emails are the ones cluttering up your inbox and keeping you from the ones you need to see.   Minutes 10 to 30: create folders and labels Now it's time to organize the messages left that don't need any action but that you need or want to keep. There are as many folder systems as email users, but an easy one to try is to make a folder for any topic or type of email with several messages that relate to it. So, that could mean folders like Client-specific, members of your team you coach, VBR, Research, HR, and so on.    You can also create a "To File Later folder" or an "Unsubscribe" folder for anything you don't want anymore. Those are great folders to sort through when you have five minutes between meetings.     Minutes 30 to 50: Use the two-minute rule or make a to-do list for emails that need action The emails you're left with now need action. If you do it in less than two minutes, do it now. If you need more time to take care of the message, add it to your to-do list with a notification to remind you to do it. Then, archive the email to keep your inbox clear (you'll still be able to search for it later).     Minutes 50 to 60: Update your settings for easy maintenance You can avoid this by setting up filters that'll automatically sort your incoming messages, so you don't have to. You can set up a filter that sends them all to a "Read Later" folder. (Outlook has its version of filters called "rules" that can do some heavy lifting for you.) You might also consider setting up an auto-reply for your Gmail or Outlook when you won't be able to reply to emails as quickly as you usually would (like if you're in a meeting, out of the office, or on vacation). And, to fly through your messages, you can enable and learn some keyboard shortcuts for Gmail or Outlook.   One final recommendation to help manage to clear your inbox each day is to approach each email with "Read, Act, File, or Delete." Use these four options will help you to clear your inbox daily. It "requires real commitment," but the goal is simple: "Never touch something more than once." If possible, schedule meetings that can't run longer than 45-50 minutes so you can catch up on emails during the 10-15 minutes in between appointments.   So Spring into Action today! Update your systems and get rid of things that no longer serve you. This way, you can spend more time with your customers and moving your business forward!   If you think someone could benefit from this Episode, share it, rate it, or subscribe for Free at Itunes or Spotify, so you don't miss out on the next  three-word podcast.

In episode 94, Learn the 5 tips to earning the meeting with your prospect now!   There is a process with payoff when you follow a proven strategy.   When reviewing your list of prospects, the goal is to answer three questions before trying to secure the first meeting. Show that you know something about Their business. Give the prospect a reason to meet with you. Give the prospect a reason Why they should meet with you Now!   Following the 3 P's, you will be on your way to meeting more prospects faster than your competitors. Purpose: Why are we meeting? Why meet Now? Process: Process vs. Product? Payoff: How will we benefit from spending this time together?   So let's think about the Purpose of your meeting. Why should they meet with you, Now? Google is our gateway to finding meaningful reasons as to why they should meet with us. You have to be resourceful in finding that reason, so you earn the meeting this season.    Just securing an appointment is one of the most challenging steps in the entire sales process. Yes, having a referral, a case study of proven success, or an industry success story makes this Process a little easier.   But, what if you don't have those? It would be best if you discovered a VBR that is relevant and timely for your prospect.   In my search to help us find a more effective way to get our prospects to meet with us now, I discovered five tips that The Center for Sales Strategy recommended.     1. Prospect's Website Most of us look at clients' websites' home page. But let's look for any current or upcoming initiatives that you could help enhance. What about sponsorships or charities they're involved? Go to the bottom of the page and look for the news section. There you may find new announcements going on with the company.   2. Industry News What's going on in their industry right now that may be a significant challenge for them? How might you help with this? If you don't know off the top of your head, do a quick Google search for recent news in the category. Industry websites — check or subscribe to stay up to date with how your prospect's industry is doing. Competitive gains — Has a competitor of theirs done something that will potentially affect your prospect's business?   3. Consumer Behavior Trends Think about their target consumer. Are there any recent trends that could be affecting the way they may purchase their product/service? Start broad if you're not sure of their exact target. Think generational trends: millennials, boomers, etc. Call and say that you have discovered a real need to reach adults 25-34 and see their company answering the needs.   4. Social Media Yes, most companies have a Facebook page. Think beyond their page and check out to see any initiatives and how they interact with their consumers. Read the shared comments to know if you see a trend or need. Use LinkedIn to connect with the decision-maker and join groups relevant to that industry. Pay attention to discussions among the group. Ask questions if you have any – their answers may help you get in the door with your prospect!   5. Timing Is there a seasonality of their product or service? For example, if they're about to enter the slow season, how might you help them increase sales and stay top-of-mind? Use Google Alerts. Set up a Google Alert, so you receive a daily/weekly update every time your prospect shows up in the news. There may be something in the future, if not now.   You may need to combine a few resources to create that sense of urgency in the prospect's mind. Now you have established a solid reason why they should meet, now.    Now let's discuss the Process!   Many of your competitors, not the three-word podcast listeners, focus on leading with their products when trying to earn the meeting versus focusing on the Process.   Product pitchers or package pitching is what these clients come to expect or, as Jennifer Darling says, " Pitch Slapping them.   Let me give you an example:   Product pitch: " I would love to talk to you about an idea that we created to deliver results for your business." In this case, you talk about the results they have achieved for others.   Process pitch: "We have a powerful process that's worked very well with many companies like yours and helped them to achieve new customer conversions." In this example, you talk about HOW you achieved the results for your clients.  The How - Now!   Can you hear the difference? You can lead with Product, Product, Product or Process, Process, Process.     In your next sales meeting, talk with your team about if your team is product pitching or sharing a proven process when securing the first meeting.   Finally, the Payoff!  This meeting's intended payoff is for you to share the Purpose and the Process you offer clients to help impact what is important to them.   Why should they want to meet with you now —and not the other way around? Because you have the answers to these three words: Purpose, Process, and Payoff!   If you think someone could benefit from this episode, share it, rate it, or subscribe for Free at Itunes or Spotify, so you don't miss out on the next  three-word podcast.

When it comes to becoming successful in sales there's nothing new. The same obstacles we faced in sales during our early years in the profession - fear, objections, and the difficulty of making sales contacts in the first place - continue to be a challenge throughout our careers. In this conversation, Jennifer talks about the need to deal with our fears effectively and provides a number of actionable tips you can apply right now to overcome it. She highlights strategies for overcoming the fear of rejection, beating the fear of interrupting people, and destroying the fear of being sleazy or salesy. If you apply what she shares on this episode you'll soon get past those fears and increase your sales skills exponentially. Be sure you listen. Avoid the Typical Fluctuating Sales Cycle Jennifer says, it only takes one year of experience as a salesperson to recognize that the sales cycle ebbs and flows based on what's happening during the year. She believes sales numbers and contacts with prospects typically wane during November and December due to the holidays, followed by a continued lull in January when planning and strategy are at the top of everyone's priority list. Then panic mode hits in February and calls are made at a furious pace, only to be followed by less calls being made due to the increased number of customers that came from February’s flurry of calls. This all-too-common cycle does NOT have to be true for you. In our conversation on this episode, Jennifer shares a very practical, common sense approach that will enable you to avoid those fluctuations and the decrease in income that comes from it. This podcast is being brought to you by The 10th Annual AA-ISP Leadership Summittaking place this April 3rd - 5th, 2018 in Chicago, IL. When you first pick up the phone to reach out to a prospect lots of things are happening to you both psychologically and physically. Your palms may sweat, your breathing may be irregular - it's the natural nervous reaction all of us have when something important is on the line. Something Jennifer shares in this conversation is this: As important as sales calls are, we don't typically prepare for them with equal seriousness. And she doesn’t only mean mentally, she also means physically. On this episode, Jennifer shares ideas for both kinds of preparation that you can apply to your sales call routine and benefit from immediately. Don't miss it. Be Proactive About Objections - Bring Them Up Before The Prospect Does Every sales training program out there includes training about how to handle objections. Jennifer says the most effective way she has found is to be proactive about them. In most cases, you know exactly what your buyer's objections will be focused around - time, money, or doubt. It's your job to know how to respond to those areas of concern in ways that put the buyer’s mind at ease. But even more importantly, Jennifer says you shouldn't wait for the buyer to raise the objections, you should bring them up yourself. When you acknowledge their concerns before they do it shows them that you understand their situation. Listen, learn, and apply and see if you can apply any of her suggestions..
