Hello everyone! Today I have my great friend Ian Bohen on the podcast. You probably know Ian as Ryan on Yellowstone but he was also in Teen Wolf and he played Young Hercules before some other actor took over the role. Ian and I met while riding motorcycles for amfAR and have been good friends ever since. He has an amazing perspective on life and his career that I really take a lot of lessons from. He also has an amazing house so if you're not watching video, maybe you should be? Remember to stick around for the hindsight where my producer Jeph and I discuss birthdays, the state of the industry, and why so many films and shows aren't shot in LA. Plus, we answer your emails in the Mail Sack. Send me an email thesackhoffshow@gmail.com Produced by Rabbit Grin Productions Mail Sack Song by Nicolas @producer_sniffles

Horrible Bosses is a 2011 dark comedy directed by Seth Gordon. This is the story of 3 friends, Nick, Dale and Kurt, played by Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudekis. All 3 of these friends in some way have a boss they despise. Nick's boss Dave played by Kevin Spacey is a gaslighting, manipulating, corporate overlord type. Kurt's boss Bobby, played by Folin Farrell is a weaselly incompetent drug fueled jerk. Dale's boss Julia, played by Jennifer Anniston is sexually aggressive towards him. They all end up scheming and coming up with a plan to kill… each other's bosses, based on some advice from Jamie Foxx's character Dean Jones. Ryan Gosling as Young Hercules by the way https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0169516/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Today's guest is screenwriter Brian Herskowitz. He wrote the book called Process to Product: From Concept to Script: A Practical Guide for the Screenwriter. Like millions before him, Brian Herskowitz moved out to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. He soon learned that there was a dearth of roles for shorter leading men and began searching for other outlets for his creative passions. In 1980 he wrote his first screenplay, an action thriller about a young man who moves to Tokyo to train for the Olympics in Judo and gets caught up in an intrigue with the Yakuza. Through that script, based on his true-life experience as an international judo competitor, he uncovered a knack and passion for writing. As a writer, Brian has completed well over a dozen feature films. His first produced feature was a low budget slasher titled DARKROOM. He currently has several projects in active development including, THE ABDUCTION, THE EMPRESS OF ELSEWHERE (co-written with Theresa Nelson based on her best selling novel), TAKE A RIDE, and FAIRIES (co-written with Pam Dawber and Andy Tobey). His TV credits include a staff writing position on the NBC sit-com BLOSSOM, multiple episodes of the syndicated series HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS, and ACAPULCO HEAT, the HBO hit comedy DREAM ON, CBS's RENEGADE, THE EXILE, MURDER, SHE WROTE, the FOX Network's YOUNG HERCULES, and CBS's critically acclaimed was series TOUR OF DUTY (associate producer). Brian co-wrote the FOX pilot MANTIC with Jason Alexander. In addition, he worked as a punch-up writer on BOB PATTERSON, and LISTEN UP.Brian currently holds the title of lead faculty in screenwriting for the prestigious BOSTON UNIVERSITY IN LOS ANGELES - WRITER IN HOLLYWOOD PROGRAM. Brian has taught online for UCLA EXTENSTIONS and has had students from every corner of the earth. Enjoy my conversation with Brian Herskowitz.
An X-Men's Best Friend (REPLAY) Be sure to thank Eric & Julia Lewald for all the great superhero shows and movies we have had over the last 10 to 15 years. It's safe to say that without their work in the 1990's on TV's X-Men The Animated Series, we wouldn't have the MCU as we know it. The popularity of that show paved the way for what we enjoy now. Eric and Julia Lewald have been big parts of such shows as the 90's X-Men, Young Hercules, RoboCop, Darkwing Duck and many others! The Lewalds are also involved in the resurgence of the X-Men animated series - X-Men 97, which will be coming to Disney Plus in the future. On this episode of Between Two Beers we talk to Sonia Gray. Sonia is one of New Zealand's best-known faces, most recognisable for being the Lotto presenter for the last 15 years. But she's much more than that; she's a model, actress and writer who's starred in shows like Xena: Warrior Princess, Shortland Street, Wheel of Fortune and Young Hercules and she's acted in Sione's Wedding, Love Birds and the Netflix film The Royal Treatment. Most recently, Sonia has turned her attention to helping others. Sonia has ADHD and a neurodivergent daughter and was the executive producer of a documentary, which screened on TVNZ and gives a brilliant insight into the lives of families with kids whose brains work a bit differently. She's also just released a 10-part podcast series that analyses her lived-experience of neurodiversity to better understand how we can support and celebrate the many Kiwis that fall under that umbrella. In this ep we talk about all the best stories from Lotto to cricket and Tana Umaga, Ryan Gosling, Wheel of Fortune and Shortland Street. And the second half delves deep into the world of neuro-diversity – a really open and informative discussion which affects at least 20% of Kiwis. Sonia was a really cool guest with great chat and a hell of a story to tell. I personally was touched, and learned a lot from this episode and am sure you will too. Listen on iheart or wherever you get your podcasts from, or watch the video on Youtube. This episode was brought to you from the Export Beer garden studio. Enjoy. Jason Hoyte is a screen, and voice, actor, radio host, comedian, stage performer, former cricket umpire and father of four. In this episode we talk about Jason's infamous scene with Nadia Lim on Late NIght Big Breakfast, the chaotic early days of comedy with Sugar and Spice, his relationship with Leigh Hart and the trials and tribulations of putting Bhuja together, working with Ryan Gosling on Young Hercules, His experiences with the ACC, never being too old for smut talk and some love, and life advice. Jase is a guest we've wanted on the show since we started it - and we weren't disappointed. He's so often ‘in character' in his public-facing roles, so it was a real treat to peak behind the curtain to find out what really makes him tick. Jase has been a big influence on both of us, he's been involved in many of our favourite productions and just generally cracks us up. He's also lived a hell of a life. An X-Men's Best Friend Be sure to thank Eric & Julia Lewald for all the great superhero shows and movies we have had over the last 10 to 15 years. Its safe to say that without their work in the 1990's on TV's X-Men The Animated Series, that we wouldn't have the MCU as we know it. The popularity of that show paved the way for what we enjoy now. Eric and Julia Lewald have been big parts of such shows as the 90's X-Men, Young Hercules, RoboCop, Darkwing Duck and many others! Episode Notes You guessed it! We've got more Young Hercules, and if you felt hopeful about last week's good slate of episodes, be prepared to be disappointed! The complaints, which The Hollywood Reporter has obtained, come against the heirs of some late comic book geniuses including Stan Lee, Steve Ditko and Gene Colan. The suits seek declaratory relief that these blockbuster characters are ineligible for copyright termination as works made for hire. If Marvel loses, Disney would have to share ownership of characters worth billions. Marvel Studios Has Over 30 Projects in Active Development https://www.cbr.com/marvel-studios-30-plus-projects-in-development/ When veteran Marvel Studios producer Victoria Alonso was asked by 221radio if the company had 35 projects in the works, Alonso laughingly replied, "We are currently working on 31 projects, don't add 4 more, please." If that sounds like a lot to take on at once, Alonso agrees. Yet, the producer went on to assure fans that the studio is prepared for some hit-or-miss projects so long as they stay true to the human characters and interconnectedness of the MCU. "It is a question about how are we handling multiple plates in the air at the same time," Alonso continued, "and the biggest thing is that sometimes the plates fall, and, you know, what are you going to do then? We want people to understand that the idea that we have, to tell these connected stories, it is important that the world knows that the characters we create, their stories have to do with how humans interact with each other." Disney+ Marvel's What If…? team reveals season 1 finale intel: There's 'a bigger plan' AC Bradley Admits … We kill Tony a LOT https://ew.com/tv/marvel-what-if-ac-bradley-bryan-andrews-episode-8/ Season 1 was originally meant to be 10 episodes, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic one of those episodes had to be pushed to season 2, and Bradley says the delayed episode helped balance the other, darker stories. "Our 10th episode was a more light, upbeat Tony Stark episode," she says. "I noticed on Twitter we're getting a lot of crap for killing Tony a lot. He has become the Kenny of the What If…? universe by accident." The episodes have mirrored the comics by ending on cliffhangers that each tease a larger story. And it seems that all of those threads may actually come together in the season's final episode. It's also possible that the already announced second season could follow up on certain stories, while new methods of remotely making animated series may help the show to avoid the issues the pandemic has posed and craft longer episodes. For now, however, the show does still have one limit: the MCU. What If...? Episodes Are Shorter than Planned Because of COVID https://deadline.com/2021/09/what-if-marvel-series-a-c-bradley-podcast-interview-1234843778/ https://www.cbr.com/marvel-what-if-short-runtime-covid/ "What If...? comics ended abruptly and really dark to prove that the main timeline is the better timeline," Bradley said. "We've used that as our reason to cut stories off a little bit shorter. All these episodes could have been 45 minutes. Some of the animatics were 35 minutes, but due to animation and Covid, we cut them a little bit shorter than we would have liked." Disney+ Pushes Ms. Marvel to 2022 https://variety.com/lists/marvel-studios-release-schedule/ https://www.cbr.com/disney-plus-ms-marvel-2022/ https://twitter.com/adambvary/status/1440844586016927744 Variety Senior Entertainment Writer Adam B. Vary recently posted an update regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe's release schedule. "I've confirmed what was obvious to most Marvel Studios observers: [Ms. Marvel] has moved from a late 2021 release on Disney Plus to 2022," Vary tweeted. This is not the first report indicating Ms. Marvel's debut shift. TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich previously suggested the series had been delayed until early a 2022 delay. Film insider Amit Chaudhari recently stated that the series was set to hit Disney+ in February. Disney+ Removes Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter Short Film https://thedirect.com/article/disney-plus-removal-hayley-atwell-agent-carter-short-film Marvel Studios' Agent Carter One-Shot was completely removed from Disney+, seemingly across all territories. In mid-September 2021, Marvel Studios' Agent Carter One-Shot was added to Disney+ within its own special section/page . Beforehand, the short could only be found in Iron Man 3 's EXTRAS section; Agent Carter has been removed there as well. There doesn't seem to be any clear indication as to why Disney+ would remove a section solely dedicated to the Agent Carter One-Shot. The One-Shot originally appeared on the 2013 DVD and digital release of Iron Man 3 and gave some brief insight into how Peggy eventually started up what viewers knew as SHIELD. From there, the Agent Carter ABC show was also born, spanning two seasons on the television network . On its own, the One-Shot exemplifies the brilliance of Atwell's character; it reminds viewers of why she is now a returning force to the franchise and re-emphasizes her importance to MCU lore as a whole . It's possible that its removal could have been nothing more than in preparation for bigger and better things to come for Peggy; maybe the streaming service pulled the gun and wants to highlight her more so down the line, possibly aligning with the Season 1 finale of What If...? . Video Games https://gamerant.com/marvel-vs-capcom-2-disney-capcom-revival-discussion-report/ This campaign to bring back Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 was started by Maximilian Dood, a YouTuber whose content revolves around fighting games. He started the campaign earlier this year under "#FREEMVC2" in order to gather support to hopefully re-release the crossover game onto modern systems. This caught the attention of Digital Eclipse, a studio that has worked with both Disney and Capcom to remaster some of its old games. Studio head Mike Mika showed his support for re-releasing the game, along with giving the game a proper remaster treatment. In a recent interview with Shacknews, Mika brings further thoughts to the table regarding how this re-release could be possible. I think I'm officially over this series. Beard Watch 2021 — 09/25/2021 Space-god frat boy holds intergalactic kegger does not make for a good story to me. StargatePioneer — 09/25/2021 Overall the series is a light hearted campy ride that hits some weeks and misses in other episodes. Not to mention a few tragic stories along the way too. But I certainly would not take any of it too seriously. This week's episode especially was meant more as a fun dalliance than any other with events that could only be told via a cartoon IMO. But all this is from a guy who like The Phantom Menace, dislikes Empire Strikes Back and is often wrong. So I might just be drinking the cool aid. Erasure (Too Lazy !!) — 09/26/2021 That's on this was one of my favorite episodes too along with T'Challa Star Lord. And wow someone else who likes the Phantom Menace and Empire not so much Others do exist TPM is one of my highest ranked SW films while ESB is one of my lowest. Beard Watch 2021 — Today at 5:34 PM Interesting finale. Probably the best ep of the series. Though it raises some questions about how.things should have gone during infinity war... We watched Hercules: Zero to Hero! Young Hercules struggles to get through school and be accepted without his mythological powers. This movie based on the TV show completely ignores the plot of the movie, but do we care? Well Bri does.
Hercules and Jason and the cast of Young Hercules get together for one last score........is more or less what is going on here in Hercules Episode 98 - The Academy. Herc, Jason, and Iolaus II go back to those old centaur stomping grounds of the hero finishing school and find that Ryan Gosling is really Ryan Gosling it up there. Also Jason finds out he has a daughter! The panel reflects on yet another thing that made 2020 worse, but finds that maybe just maybe there is one thing that made 2020 better. The Lord of the Rings television series is an Amazon production that’s going to be filmed in New Zealand, and it’s predicted to be the most expensive TV series ever made. The budget is around NZ$1.3 billion - I find it a bit hard to get my head around that number. So we’re still benefiting from Sir Peter Jackson turning New Zealand into Middle Earth for the LOTR trilogy and The Hobbit. It would have been a shame if Scotland became known as the new Middle Earth - which apparently was a possibility before we secured the deal. The main cast for the series was announced a few days ago.Not a lot of the names were familiar, although after a quick google I did recognise a few faces - none of them New Zealander actors. In response, some were of the view that as we’re being kind enough to offer a generous rebate - $300 million in this case - then maybe they could hire one or two of our fabulous actors in a main role? And New Zealand actors have done well out of international TV productions filmed here; Michael Hurst, Kevin Smith, Lucy Lawless, Karl Urban, Danielle Cormack are a few who stared in Hercules and Xena, Dean O’Gorman in Young Hercules, Craig Parker in Legend of the Seeker, and seemingly everything else filmed here. And let’s not forget the familiar faces in the cinematic versions of LOTR and The Hobbit; people like Ian Mune, Mark Ferguson, Mark Hadlow, Manu Bennett. But a quota for actors doesn’t seem to me to be the answer; I’ve not even sure there’s a question. A quota would put producers off looking at NZ as an option. In my view, you can put a quota on crew, but not on main characters, and especially when you’re the only country doing it. They’ll likely just go somewhere else. And remember, there’s other good stuff that happens when a billion bucks comes to town. That’s a lot of money into our screen industry, which has become an important source of employment and overseas revenue - at the end of 2018 it was worth around $3.3 billion a year.International productions hire our crews, there’s production and post production costs and visual and special effects houses New Zealand - why wouldn’t you take advantage of the world class skills.Businesses which support the film industry benefit as well – like caterers and vehicle hire companies. Then there’s our Instagram worthy scenery on display - again. And who knows, maybe some of our actors did get the chance to audition for lead roles, but weren’t quite right for the part.Sir Peter Jackson auditioned a fair proportion of New Zealand for Lord of the Rings. I know because I auditioned for Galadriel - which was, and still is, utterly embarrassing because acting does not come naturally. It was an experience, but I wasn’t shocked to be passed over for 2 times Oscar winner Cate Blanchett. Of course she got the role! While New Zealand actors might have missed out on the main characters announced for the first few episodes but let’s not be parochial and go any further with the idea of a quota.I’m confident that by the time LOTR hits Amazon in 2021, there will be many familiar faces on screen, including up and coming actors getting their chance to experience life on set of the most expensive TV show ever made.
We bid a fond farewell to Alcmene as her death gets shortchanged to a Young Hercules episode as Daoud steals the pilot chair from Brian for a special guest host appearance. Today's guest is screenwriter Brian Herskowitz. He wrote the book called Process to Process to Product: From Concept to Script: A Practical Guide for the Screenwriter.Like millions before him, Brian Herskowitz moved out to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. His TV credits include a staff writing position on the NBC sit-com BLOSSOM, multiple episodes of the syndicated series HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS, and ACAPULCO HEAT, the HBO hit comedy DREAM ON, CBS’s RENEGADE, THE EXILE, MURDER, SHE WROTE, the FOX Network’s YOUNG HERCULES, and CBS’s critically acclaimed was series TOUR OF DUTY (associate producer). Today's guest is screenwriter Brian Herskowitz. He wrote the book called Process to Process to Product: From Concept to Script: A Practical Guide for the Screenwriter.Like millions before him, Brian Herskowitz moved out to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. Episode 70 is Ryan Gosling as Young Hercules ,it's a shame he hasn't gone to do more stuff he was pretty good. The show features the efforts of Ares, the god of war, played by Kevin Tod Smith, who attempts often to destroy his younger half-brother to win over Zeus' good graces. Among his group is his nephew Strife, who is the rather weaker member of the team. Strife's mother is Discord, goddess of retribution , who acts more level-headed and power hungry than her counterpart on more than one occasion.

DeCandido has been, at various times, an author, editor, critic, book packager, musician, television personality, and probably some other things, too, but he can't remember due to the lack of sleep. On the fiction-writing side, he has more than thirty novels to his credit, along with short stories, eBooks, comic books, novellas, and nonfiction. Most of his work has been in various media tie-in universes, ranging from TV shows (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, CSI: NY, Doctor Who, Farscape, Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, Star Trek, Supernatural, Xena, Young Hercules) to comic books (the Hulk, Spider-Man, the Silver Surfer, X-Men) to games (Classic BattleTech, Command and Conquer, Magic: the Gathering, StarCraft, World of Warcraft). He also wrote the novelizations of Joss Whedon's Serenityand all three Resident Evil films. Most of his non-tie-in work is in the milieu of his 2004 novel Dragon Precinct, a high-fantasy police procedural. As an editor, Keith has put together twenty anthologies (some behind-the-scenes, some credited), was the editorial director of the Marvel Comics novels published in the 1990s by Boulevard Books, supervised the monthly Star Trek eBook line from 2001-2008, and edited dozens of books.
