Today, I take you through my personal journey with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sharing the relief and validation that came with understanding my diagnosis. We'll explore the critical importance of seeking professional help, navigating through the historical context of PTSD in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM), and understanding how trauma uniquely impacts each individual. Join me as I recount my experiences living with PTSD, including memory lapses, hypervigilance, and sleep disturbances. These symptoms profoundly affected my everyday life, but therapy, medication, and support programs like Lauren Starnes' "When the Body Talks" played crucial roles in my path to better mental health. This episode aims to shed light on the complex interplay between trauma and the mind, emphasizing the need for consistent care and professional evaluation. In our concluding discussions, we focus on the healing journey, exploring effective treatments such as EMDR, cognitive behavior therapy, and complementary therapies like mindfulness and yoga. Reflecting on the biblical story of the man at the pool of Bethesda, I encourage you to ask yourself if you truly want to heal and take those necessary steps toward well-being. Register for the Body Talks Masterclass at oliveandbliss.ca/bodytalksThis is an invitation to reflect and contemplate who you are in relationship when it comes to your body. As women, we have been taught to see our bodies as objects for making big moves and achieving the relationships, life, and success that we crave. But what I've found is that you can achieve all the success you desire but it will mean nothing if your body lacks the capacity to hold that level of success, exposure, and responsibility. Send us a Text Message.Ever wondered why your body seems to have a mind of its own, especially after experiencing trauma? Join me as I sit down with Lauren Starnes, a compassionate physician's assistant in psychiatric medicine, to uncover the vital interplay between our physical sensations and mental health. In a revealing conversation, we tackle the often-overlooked language of the body post-trauma, discussing how tuning into these messages not only enhances self-awareness but can also be a matter of survival.Navigating the intricate paths of self-care, we shatter misconceptions and resonate on the topic's true meaning, especially within religious contexts. I open up about my personal battles living in survival mode and the liberating shift towards balance and intuitive eating, which Lauren affirms with her profound expertise. Together, we emphasize the necessity of hydration, the restful sanctuary of sleep, and even the surprising significance of neck exercises as tools in the healing arsenal. As we lay bare our stories, the episode becomes a testament to the transformative power of embracing a holistic approach to recovery. As the episode comes to a close, we highlight the importance of community and faith in the healing process. I share my gratitude for the support received during my own journey and preview an earnest dialogue with Dr. Katherine Jackson on the societal stigmas around suicide, promising to be another candid chapter in this ongoing conversation. Whether it's through tears that cleanse or the daily commitment to listen to what our bodies are yearning to convey, this episode serves as an empowering reminder of our capacity for growth and the compassion we all deserve on our path to well-being.You ARE:SEEN KNOWN HEARD LOVED VALUED

In today's podcast, I had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Soo Battle, a board-certified and licensed pediatrician serving as the Medical Advisor at the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims & Children (ACCVC) in Waco, Texas. Dr. Battle is also the founder of Camp Careful, a program dedicated to reducing and preventing child sexual abuse through child empowerment, family education, and community awareness. Our conversation delved into the crucial topic of having open and sometimes awkward conversations with children about their bodies. Dr. Battle shared valuable insights on how parents can proactively engage with their kids, fostering an environment where they feel comfortable discussing boundaries and personal safety. Emphasizing the role of parents as the primary educators for their children, she underscored the importance of addressing these topics early on. A significant portion of our discussion focused on online safety, considering the prevalent risks of sexual exploitation in today's digital age. Dr. Battle provided practical tips for parents to become the best safety app for their kids, highlighting the need for vigilance in monitoring online activities. Acknowledging the sensitivity of the subject matter, we advised parents to listen to the podcast before exposing their children to potentially mature content. Dr. Soo Battle's expertise offered valuable guidance for parents navigating the challenges of educating and protecting their children in a world where the threat of sexual exploitation is ever-present. Working with your energy and your physical body is essential if you want to unlock the full radiance of your being. Our bodies speak with so much more truth than our words do. Radiance is an energy. It's your aura. It has nothing to do with your looks, what you wear, or what you say. In today's Episode of Divine Union, Nicola discusses what it can look like when you're body and mind are not working together, and what you can do to bridge the two more seamlessly. Our bodies contain deep wisdom that we can unlock when we know how to work in harmony with the body, and this episode will give you some helpful insight to bring deeper sensitivity to this space.0:00 Intro1:12 What Creates Radiance 3:20 The Body Talks 6:40 Responding To The Bodily Signals9:51 Managing Your Energy During Conflict12:06 Nourishing Your Body To Unlock Stuck Energy A useful companion piece to this episode: Bodily Awareness MeditaitonMy Website: nicolanavon.comSubscribe to my NewsletterInstagram: @nicolanavonTo receive a free gift, email a screenshot of your review of Divine Union to info@nicolanavon.com. In this episode, I discuss the topic of body image, particularly in the context of tango. I share my personal struggles and experiences with body image and explore the impact of societal beauty standards on dancers. Takeaways - Body image is an evergreen topic that affects many people, including those in the tango community. - Beauty standards in tango can create challenges and insecurities for dancers. - Grace, presence, and self-acceptance are more important than conforming to societal beauty standards. - Focusing on aspects of your body and movement that you can control can lead to a more positive body image in tango. The mysteries, myths and magic of non-verbal communication How to better read and convey body language Episode 168 (Richard is based near London in the UK) In this conversation with Richard Newman: Why your words alone might not convey emotion Sending congruent messages from verbal and non-verbal channels The mistakes we make when we only hear the words Body language and tone of voice presents the palate The three minds that evaluate the message -survival emotional, logical Why you need to see and hear beyond the words How do we evaluate the truth Why the CEO and CFO need to align their body language with the words How to read body language in context and from clusters About our guest Richard Newman: Richard is the Founder of Body Talk. Over the past 23 years his team have trained over 120,000 business leaders around the world, to improve their communication and impact, including one client who gained over $1 Billion in new business in just one year, using the strategies that Richard teaches. Richard's research on non-verbal communication was published in the Journal of Psychology. His study proved that you can increase your leadership ratings by 44% and win 59% more votes in an election by changing a few simple behaviors. Richard's new book ‘Lift Your Impact' explores how you can ‘Transform your mindset, influence and future, to elevate your work, team and life'. Learn more about Richard and his services at the website https://ukbodytalk.com/ ----- Excerpts from this conversation with Richard Newman: Do we use body language as an indicator of emotion or an indicator of truth versus untruth? Yeah, so I think a palette of emotions the great way to explain this and I should say that, I love words, I'm passionate about words. I've written a couple of books. I was very proud to win a speech writing award and going back a few years ago. And so words can be extraordinarily valuable. But then you got to think about if you are with people, then your body language and your tone of voice is there as the palette that brings this to life and though you don't want to just have a grey Canvas, you need to express it, you need to express what that message really means. ----- I was terrified to stand up and speak in class, because I just didn't have any confidence around communication. And now I was onstage teaching in front of 1000s of people and enjoying it not just teaching but teaching communication. And so it's one of those things that you can learn. And if you think about it a little bit like this, you know, it's worthwhile learning lessons where if you approach tennis the same way as as body language, if you think well, you're just a natural or you're not then imagine any of the great tennis players who's doing well at the moment like Novak Djokovic. If you imagine when he was five years old, his parents said to him, oh, there's a tennis court over there. Just go and be yourself just be natural, you'd be a terrible player, he wouldn't have any idea how to play the game, you wouldn't be a champion. But instead what happened is he had lessons around forehand backhand serve volley and everything else around the game. And then he built that up in his own way, his own method, his own style, too, as his own personality on the court. The same goes with body language is that you can start to learn what the principles are. And the important thing around that is that you make them your own. ------- ----more---- Your host is George Torok George is a specialist in executive communication skills. “God takes our brokenness and turns it into our passion.” Joy Skarka With vulnerability and authenticity, Joy shares her story which includes sexual trauma that led to a struggle with pornography. As a girl struggling with porn, she felt isolation and carried tremendous shame. Yet, there is help and healing. And, we are never alone in our struggle. This episode is a rich discussion across many topics including sexuality, discipleship, singleness and pornography, with encouraging theology and an unpacking of our need to be known, loved, and to give and receive love. We all experience some sort of sexual brokeness and are far from the naked and unashamed innocence God created in the garden. Let's walk in more freedom, through vulnerability, and know that God cares about your sexuality. Since then, I have become more energetically stronger than ever before. Unlocking thoughts that have been buried deep behind my subconscious. Describing the different layers of Kosha & what it means, from the physical form to our thinking mind. The logic behind manifestation and how to properly implement it. Why I had to take a short break from microdosing. Follow the guidance that's coming from within you. The beauty, significance, and impact of using a holistic approach. Something worth celebrating is worth talking about. Let's celebrate the goodness of the body because your body has good news written all over it. Your words have the power to speak truth and life over your children, including their body. Bless with your words as you train your children to understand that they were formed in an integrated way. Mind, body and spirit are all of great value and when you bless your children in this manner, you are speaking the truth of God over them. Listen in and hear truth and equipping scripture to help you understand the goodness of the body and how to break down the concepts into teachable nuggets. Let's talk about image bearing power, because what your body reveals is really good news. As you teach your children to watch for the cultural cues that seek to elevate ideas that don't align with God's goodness, let's look at the good news that the body itself reveals. God uses visible things to reveal what is invisible about His nature. This is true for your body. You can see something about our invisible God through the body. We can know God by observing the things He has made. Sexuality and gender is like a clue to show us what God is like and how we can show God to others through the body. Your body is good! Let's lean in to the good news shown through theology of the body. You'll learn small phrases to help you teach your children about the meaningful purpose of the body…and show them a better way to create a big cultural shift. Do you want to know how to effectively lead your kids into truth during this confusing time in our culture? It begins with understanding the meaning of what it is to be human…and it starts with YOU. What does it mean to be a fully alive human, made in the image of God from head to toe? And, what does it look like to walk in fullness of knowing why God gave you a body, distinctly male or female with great purpose. God designed your body to be communicators of His glory (Romans 1:20). Your body is GOOD. When we reframe the conversation about the body, gender and sexualty we can shift from a list of rules, and do's and don'ts to a vision of WHY God created our body, our gender, our genitals. Embrace the GOODNESS of what God reveals through your body. Jesus came in a body and we were designed to live in a body, informed by the reality of the love of God. Let's reconnect to the “why” of our humanity. Listen in and hear a simple framework for teaching theology of the body. Join the Discipleship Circle group mentorship community. You can't give away something that you don't own yourself. When it comes to talking to your children about their body, their gender and their sexuality the stakes seem increasingly high. And, while you might be looking for the best formula for sharing a Biblical worldview, let's start the conversation with a strong foundation about what your body reveals and why your body matters. In this series, we will unpack a solid foundation and understanding of theology of the body. This understanding provides a framework for a foundation to support you as you teach your children a valuable dialogue that goes beyond a “sex talk” or a “puberty talk.” Let's be informed so we can form our children's hearts and minds about their body, their gender and their sexuality in a way that helps them navigate their own journey and also be a light in the world. Melissa and Siria discuss how our emotional wellbeing impacts our physical bodies. They share their own stories of their bodies telling them something was off and how self-awareness helped them develop stress management tools.
My conversation with Kelly Czerpak: Kelly's business BodyTalk Health Coaching first caught my attention on Instagram. Her positive messages struck me as much more than just "catchy positivity". Her insights are practical and insightful. And, when I reached out to Kelly, I was impressed by her holistic approach to wellness. Kelly was an active, multi-sport athlete. She pushed herself hard and she had success. She also felt it. Despite being young and "in shape", Kelly felt her body breaking down. Aches, pains and injuries became constant and Kelly became attuned to the fact that we only have one body to live in and we need to take great care of it. That is where Kelly's journey began. Since then, Kelly has done deep exploration - reading, meditating, experimenting, learning and ultimately becoming a certified health coach. Her one-on-one coaching style is thoughtful and collaborative. Learn more about Kelly on Instagram and in her Instagram bio at BodyTalk Heath Coaching or @healthcoach_Kelly. You can also read her holistic mind-body wellness write-ups on SubStack.
If anyone has had signs, symptoms, pain, discomfort, or down right haven't felt good for a period time or for years, this Podcast is for you. I, myself had experienced all these things for years and chose to ignore it. I have always wanted to do a Podcast to be a voice for others that are not listening to their bodies like me. It wasn't easy to do, so I invited Kim Philia to join me where I got to see her journey of discovery and listening to her body and do all the necessary treatments to feel better and educate herself. She is an inspiration and sheds so much light on what we need to do and focus on what's important and that is you and YOUR body! Listen to the signs, they are talking to you. If you know someone who needs to hear this as well, please send them this podcast. Thank you and enjoy listening to "Your body Talks!"
Today Mister Ray welcomes the overall awesome gentledude Denzel So (@bewellwithdenzel) to the show! Denzel and Ryan will be talking about sleep, nutrition, movement, breath, and all things related - and unrelated - to this wonderful self-sustaining vessel we call, the body!
We had the pleasure of interviewing Luke Spiller of The Struts over Zoom video! The third full-length from British rock band The Struts, Strange Days came to life over the course of a charmed and frenzied burst of creativity last spring. After getting tested for COVID-19, singer Luke Spiller, guitarist Adam Slack, bassist Jed Elliott, and drummer Gethin Davies all moved into the Los Angeles home of Jon Levine, a producer who worked extensively on their acclaimed sophomore effort YOUNG & DANGEROUS (including the album’s chart-climbing lead single “Body Talks”). Within just ten days of couch-crashing at Levine’s house, The Struts had laid down nine original tracks and one masterful cover of a KISS B-side: a lean, mean body of work that amounts to their most glorious output to date.In an organic turn of events for a band massively embraced by some of rock-and-roll history’s greatest icons—a feat that’s included opening for The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Guns N’ Roses—Strange Days finds The Struts joining forces with a formidable lineup of guest musicians: Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott and Phil Collen, Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes, Tom Morello, and Robbie Williams. Mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer (Panic! At the Disco, Arctic Monkeys, Johnny Marr), the result is a powerhouse album that lifts The Struts’ glammed-up breed of modern rock to entirely new and wildly thrilling heights.Despite its prescient title, “Strange Days” took shape from a voice memo Spiller recorded on the band’s tour bus way back in summer 2019. Fused with a cabaret-inspired interlude Spiller had recently dreamed up, the song ultimately evolved into the perfect vessel for the frontman’s force-of-nature voice: a tenderhearted epic that offers incredible solace in the most chaotic of times. As Spiller reveals, the making of Strange Days was a period of joyful productivity. “Every day I’d wake up at about 7 a.m., get three venti Americanos delivered to the house, go out to the backyard and smoke a couple of spliffs, and listen to the voice memos I’d recorded at the sessions the day before,” he recalls. “After the first four days or so we hit a bit of a wall, so we decided to get some beers in and just stay in the pool all day—and the day after that we knocked out three whole songs.” Throughout Strange Days, that kinetic energy manifests in the album’s unbridled spirit, an element that makes every track exhilarating. “I think because we’d wanted to make an album this way for years, all that excitement and hunger led to an immediate sort of magic once we started working on it,” says Spiller. “It was undoubtedly a magical ten days for us—and I hope when people hear the album, it gives them a taste of that magic too.”We want to hear from you! In this episode, Jenn Green, founder of This Baby Mama Body and I get VERY passionate about how women's bodies are portrayed in the media, and what it means to start a podcast that aims to normalize larger women. Jenn is a plus-sized fitness coach who refuses to believe that women should be made to feel like their bodies aren't good enough, post-partum (or at any time for that matter!). And now, she's launching a podcast to help more women move towards true body acceptance.Getting VocalJenn was one of the first Podcast Rocketeers back in May of 2020 and I was SO excited for her to join! Her passion for podcasting as a medium to share the stories of women who have given birth really speaks to my social justice warrior nature, because sharing stories about women's bodies (and especially larger bodies) is in and of itself an act of defiance against the patriarchy.Originally, Jenn had planned to do a full “Humans Of New York” style show, and to stay away from the mic. But then, she realized she needed to be part of the conversation, and I'm so glad she made that decision. The most important thing we can do as podcasters is use our own voices to inspire others to do the same. And it might seem really hard and really scary at first to put yourself right in the middle of the spotlight, but by opening up and being vulnerable and saying what you believe, you make it possible for others to do the same. And that is exactly what Jenn is doing with her new podcast, Body Talks by Baby Mamas.Oh heck yeah, we both hate the patriarchy. To hear Jenn speak about creating a world where mothers don't feel like they need to “get their pre-baby bodies back” or spend countless hours doing exercise as a punishment, is so powerful. When she shares her philosophies (and she also shares more on Kirsten Jordan's podcast, Perfectly Imperfect Social) you can't help but wonder why the hell no one else is talking about health and fitness the way she does. It's totally radical to think that fitness isn't a chore, or a punishment. It's totally radical to believe that a negative self-image stems from generations of women being told that they weren't good enough. And what Jenn is doing, by normalizing post-baby bodies, is so radical that you need to hear it to believe it. Jenn's new podcast, Body Talks by Baby Mamas, launches TODAY! YES that's right we totally synced up the release of this episode with her podcast launch! And I'm so totally proud of her accomplishments, and so honoured to be part of her journey to launching this badass pod!Links mentioned in this episode:Free Mini course - The first steps you can take towards body acceptance - http://www.babymamafitness.com/Goal Getter - http://www.babymamafitness.com/goalgetter/Podcast Rocket: https://theultimatecreative.com/podcast-rocket

To want to do what He wants us to do. REPENT. BE BORN AGAIN. 2020 is here. Now where are you?

We had the opportunity to interview The Struts! In just a few years, The Struts have found themselves massively embraced by some of the greatest icons in rock-and-roll history. Along with opening for The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Guns N’ Roses, the U.K.-bred four-piece was hand-picked by Mötley Crüe to serve as the supporting act for their last-ever performances, while Dave Grohl praised them as the best band to ever open for Foo Fighters. After making their full-length debut with 2016’s Everybody Wants, The Struts now return with YOUNG&DANGEROUS — a sophomore album that cements their status as one of the most unstoppably passionate and endlessly thrilling bands making rock music today. On YOUNG&DANGEROUS, The Struts let loose with the sing-along-ready and riff-heavy sound they’ve brought to stadiums and arenas all around the world. Working with producers like Butch Walker (Weezer, Panic! At the Disco) and Sam Hollander (Fitz and the Tantrums, Neon Trees), the band adorns that sound with deeper grooves and more inventive textures, dreaming up a majestic glam-rock revamp that’s unabashedly fun but full of pure heart. The lead single from YOUNG&DANGEROUS, “Body Talks” brings that dynamic to a blues-spiked track capturing what Spiller calls “that moment when you mosey on over to someone on the dancefloor, and the music’s blaring so loud you can’t even talk to each other.” In creating an alternate version of “Body Talks,” The Struts amped up the song’s seductive power by enlisting Kesha to lend her soulful growl to a fiery duet with Spiller. The Struts also infuse some social commentary into YOUNG&DANGEROUS sending up selfie culture on the falsetto-laced epic “In Love With A Camera,” taking on trolls with the swampy and smoldering “Bulletproof Baby,” and pondering identity with the sweetly melodic “Who Am I.” And for the soaring and glorious “Primadonna Like Me,” The Struts brilliantly turn the lens on themselves. “It was written about my stage character, my alter ego,’” notes Spiller. “It’s this completely deluded guy running around his small town, all dressed to the nines—a full-on 21st century dandy going around saying, ‘Don’t you know who I think I am?’”Formed in Derby, England, in 2012, The Struts almost instantly drew a major following with their outrageous live show, and later made their debut with Have You Heard (a 2015 EP whose lead single “Could Have Been Me” hit #1 on Spotify’s viral chart). Before they’d even put out their first album, the band opened for The Rolling Stones before a crowd of 80,000 in Paris and toured the U.S. on a string of sold-out shows. Known for his lovably swaggering stage presence—the very factor that gave The Struts their name—Spiller soon inspired legendary designers like former Queen costumer Zandra Rhodes to custom-create his lavish and glittering onstage attire. As the frontman points out, that heightened element of spectacle is all a part of the band’s mission of making an unforgettable impact on the crowd. “We believe in giving our absolute all every night, because that’s what our fans deserve,” he says. “The goal is always to get everyone dancing and screaming and shouting, and to make sure they leave dripping in sweat with huge smiles on their faces."With the release of YOUNG&DANGEROUS, The Struts have undoubtedly met another of their main ambitions as a band. “One of the things we most want to do with our music is inspire young people to pick up a guitar again,” says Spiller. “We live in a time that’s very much dominated by hip-hop and dance music, and that’s a great thing, but we want to give the world a big reminder that there’s something else going on out there. This album is our way of saying, ‘If you feel a little out of place, there’s always an electric guitar—and just look at what you can do with it.’”Luke Spiller (vocals) - Adam Slack (guitar) - Jed Elliott (bass) - Gethin Davies (drums)https://thestruts.com/“Annoy people politely.”— Adam Slack of The Strutshttps://www.bringinitbackwards.com/ Tera@BringinitBackwards.com CREDITS: Theme Song: Scott Russo Design: Oscar Rodriguez Photo: Anna Lee Media

Nothing seems to get better, in fact in many cases, they just continue to get worse. What is your body REALLY trying to tell you?
