The Justice Department is suing Ticketmaster and Live Nation. What does that mean for concertgoers?

レアジョブ英会話 Daily News Article Podcast

Will the Justice Department's lawsuit against Ticketmaster and Live Nation give concertgoers, sports fans, and theater patrons some relief from surging ticket prices? The lawsuit could potentially lead to a breakup of Live Nation Entertainment, a company that resulted from Ticketmaster's 2010 merger with concert promoter Live Nation. Attorney General Merrick Garland said the aim is to allow more competition and to let smaller players gain more of the U.S. ticket-selling market—of which Ticketmaster controls a whopping 70%. More competition could lead to cheaper tickets. But experts say live event lovers shouldn't expect changes any time soon. The Justice Department on May 23 accused Live Nation of engaging in a slew of practices that have allowed it to maintain a stronghold over the live music scene. They accused it of using long-term contracts to keep venues from choosing rival ticketers, blocking venues from using multiple ticket sellers, and threatening venues that they could lose money and fans if they don't choose Ticketmaster. The uproar that resulted from a myriad of problems Swifties encountered while trying to buy tickets through Ticketmaster for the pop star's Eras Tour in 2022 shined a light on cracks in the U.S. ticketing system. State attorneys general—30 of whom have joined the Justice Department's lawsuit—started probing Ticketmaster. The widespread social media outcry even led to a Senate hearing. Ticket prices have gone up for multiple reasons, including a huge surge in demand after the COVID-19 pandemic. And as anyone who has tried to score tickets to a popular event knows, service fees and ticket resales can push prices up much higher, in some cases into the thousands of dollars. The Justice Department's lawsuit alleges that having a giant company like Live Nation Entertainment exacerbates markups since it controls so much of the market. Live Nation and Ticketmaster, which have long clashed with artists and fans, have always denied they act in a monopolistic manner. They say service fees go to concert venues and that outside competition has “steadily eroded” Ticketmaster's market share. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

The event will host a live DJ as well as a live art installation by #Roodoodles, a South Carolina artist named #MichaelHaun who specializes in watercolor art of roosters.  The menu includes chicken tenders, wings, sandwiches and waffle meals. The corn-flake-battered chicken is served with six sauce level options ranging from "No Heat" to "Xtra Hot." Meals can also be served with their signature "Come Back" sauce, a side of coleslaw, fries or mac and cheese.  Among their dessert options are an array of milkshakes, banana pudding and fried Twinkies. The restaurant also serves six beer options.  The Cherokee girls picked up their seventh straight win Tuesday night as it beat Region 5 seven A foe Wheeler 77-49. The Warriors' best stretch of the season continued as they have beaten teams by an average of 33.9 points since Dec. 30. Cherokee,  which remained undefeated in the region and leads Walton and North Cobb in the standings, will search for a regular-season region sweep of each over the next two games. Continuing her stellar junior season, Toni Warren led Cherokee with 24 points against Wheeler. Alex Whitecliffe finished with 16 points, followed by Riley Simmons' 13 points and Elle Kenney's nine. Beyond Warren, multiple contributors have stepped up for Cherokee. Whitecliffe, Simmons, Lyla Griffith and many more have rapidly improved for a lineup riddled with young talent. Cherokee's schedule played a role in getting its young lineup ready for region play. It matched up with River Ridge, Lumpkin County and Lovejoy in the first three weeks of the season, and those three teams have a 51-12 combined record. The Sequoyah Regional Library System held a groundbreaking ceremony January 25 for the Hickory Flat Public Library expansion and renovation. The project includes renovating the existing 10,000 square foot building, which opened in 1993, and expanding it by an additional 7,800 square feet. Construction on the project will begin this month, with an expected completion date of about 12 months. When it reopens, the library will have more space for books and technology; larger areas for programs, meetings, collaboration and creation, and additional seating for study and quiet reading. Hollandsworth Construction is handling the construction. The total construction contract for the project is $6.7 million and is funded through Cherokee County's Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. Additional funding includes $2 million from a Capital Outlay Grant, administered by the Georgia Public Library Service. The building is closed to the public for the entirety of the construction. Those who have a Hickory Flat Library card can use it at any Sequoyah Regional Library System locations. #CherokeeCounty #Georgia #LocalNews           -          -          -          -          -          -          The Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast is local news for Woodstock, Canton, and all of Cherokee County. Register Here for your essential digital news.             This podcast was produced and published for the Cherokee Tribune-Ledger and TribuneLedgerNews.com by BG Ad Group     For more information be sure to visit https://www.bgpodcastnetwork.com/    https://cuofga.org/   https://www.drakerealty.com/   https://www.esogrepair.com/     See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Returning to our earlier story about the gnarl up over transport to Elton John's Auckland concerts. Auckland Transport, the agency tasked with promoting public trasnport, like buses and trains has recommended people drive to the gig at Mount Smart Stadium. Add to that train shut downs for maintenance, a bus driver shortage and a severe weather warning. Checkpoint reporter Louise Ternouth talks to some concertgoers who were very disappointed to not have a train to catch.

Kaitlin Armstrong, suspected of the murder of pro cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson, has been caught after six weeks on the run in Costa Rica. Travel advisory: holiday weekend backlog has begun to stack up at Austin Bergstrom International Airport, with long lines, delays and cancellations. Members of the Texas State Board of Education are recommending that social studies curriculum for 2nd graders refer to slavery as "involuntary relocation". That suspected case of monkeypox in Travis County has been confirmed, as contact tracing efforts continue. The Austin Fire Department is warning that conditions are too dry for any truly safe use of fireworks, though they are allowed in the usual locations. Also, personal watercraft will be banned for the 4th of July weekend on Lake Austin. The University of Texas has been ranked number 2, only behind Rice, in a new ranking of the best college investments. After a brief shutdown for renovations, venerable cajun restaurant Cypress Grill in South Austin is set to re-open in August to celebrate their 20th anniversary. Concertgoers at Emo's in East Austin have become frequent targets of car booters in nearby parking lots. Hi Sign Brewing is primed to open their new taproom next weekend, on July 9. The forecast for the holiday weekend has gotten hotter - we now expect 100-degree highs at a minimum beginning Friday and lasting at least through mid-July.

ASTROWORLD TRAGEDY & JAY Z CLEARED IN $67 MILLION LAWSUIT | Divij's Den | Ep 29 Houston police chief debunks rumor about Astroworld security guard, who says he was not drugged but was hit on the head The investigation into the deadly tragedy at the Astroworld music festival could "take weeks, possibly months," Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said Wednesday. Calling for public officials to refrain from speculation, Finner said investigators were focused on "timelines," noting that festival organizers were informed that police were conducting CPR on victims while the show was still going. In a subsequent statement to the press, Finner said he meant to add that "it was at that time our HPD personnel told personnel in charge of the event to shut down the performance." Speaking Monday, Finner also debunked an early, viral rumor that — one he himself had amplified: that a security guard had been "pricked" with an unknown substance prior to the "mass casualty event."We did locate that security guard," Finner said. "His story is not consistent with that. He said he was struck in his head and went unconscious." "He said no one injected drugs in him, so we want to clear that part up," he added. Finner had earlier in the week asserted that medical staff had detected "a prick" in a guard's neck similar to one that "you would get if somebody was trying to inject."Finner said investigators had concluded there were "two mosh pits" near the stage. A security planning document from festival organizer Scoremore indicates that employees were instructed to prepare for a number of emergency scenarios — but not the possibility of a stampede. The Houston police and fire departments were both involved in the security planning for the festival, the Associated Press reported, with Chief Finner revealing this week that he had met with Scott himself before the fatal episode to discuss safety concerns. In a testy exchange with reporters on Wednesday, Finner said that to him did not constitute a "special relationship" with the star. HOUSTON — Panic and then desperation spread through the crowd of 50,000 mostly young people just as the popular hometown rapper they had come to see, Travis Scott, took the stage Friday night. It came like a wave, an unstoppable movement of bodies that could not be held back. Some collapsed. Others fought for air. Concertgoers lifted up the unconscious bodies of friends and strangers and surfed them over the top of the crowd, hoping to send them to safety. Others shouted out for help with CPR and pleaded for the concert to stop. It kept going. In the end, eight people died, ranging in age from 14 to 27, according to city officials. Hundreds more were treated for injuries at a field hospital at the concert venue, the NRG Park in Houston, or at local hospitals. Among those treated at a hospital was a 10-year-old child. The event appeared to be one of the deadliest crowd-control disasters at a concert in the United States in many years. Similar episodes have occurred at venues around the world, during performances of all genres of music, including an electronic dance music festival Germany in 2010 at which 18 people were trapped and crushed, and a 1979 Who concert in Cincinnati where 11 people died as concertgoers rushed the entrance. But the deaths in Houston had a particularly devastating impact at a time when the rapture of live events was being felt following months of pandemic restrictions. “Young people with bright futures — those were the people who were at the event,” said Lina Hidalgo, the top executive for Harris County, which includes Houston. She and other officials at an afternoon news conference struggled to explain what had taken place the night before. “Perhaps the plans were inadequate, perhaps the plans were good but they weren't followed, perhaps it was something else entirely,” she said, calling for an independent investigation.

He tells Anderson Cooper why he thinks it's important for people to cooperate with the select committee if they're subpoenaed. Plus, a crowd surge at the Astroworld Festival in Houston killed eight people and injured dozens more. Concertgoers were crushed and trampled as waves of people moved toward the stage while headliner Travis Scott performed. Authorities say the criminal investigation could take weeks. Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña joins AC360 to explain how something like this could happen and says “actions weren't taken quickly enough.”  To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy

Global brands recognize that live events are filled with potential customers, but often their approach to engagement involves techniques fraught with data and privacy concerns; facial recognition and biometric screening being two especially hot topics. Direct-to-consumer marketing startup Hurdl has found a solution to this problem, using LED wearables to provide an opt-in experience with off-the-charts 1:1 engagement results. Hurdl is able to gather audience data by giving fans an LED wristband upon entering a venue, which attendees can choose to activate via SMS. On average, 67% of the audience will activate and 95% of those who do so will answer up to 5 survey questions. In return they receive special offers, merch deals, and more as determined by the organizer, while their LED wristband allows them to be part of the light show at the event. I invited Betsy McHugh, the Founder and CEO of Hurdl Enterprises back onto the show to learn how she is pioneering the de-anonymization of persons in event venues with a new kind of entertainment experience. We also talk about how this wearable technology is bridging the gap between artist and audience while being both accessible and affordable.

Beginning today, Star Trek comic fans can look forward to bi-monthly entries starting with Issue 1 titled The Mirror, Cracked. In these comics, legend John Byrne takes screen stills from TOS episodes and using them to craft new stories. They're not just a series of familiar scenes, however.
